Andromeda3 or Firefly 3.0? Help me decide please. - Captivate General

I want to flash my girlfriends phone sooooooo bad. This is her first smartphone and she's quite annoyed with it. Currently running stock 2.1 with the bugs it comes with. From the battery life to the excessive lag along with other bugs. She almost regrets getting the phone and says she shouldve got the iphone because it's more stable, smoother and faster.
I kno flashing a stable and fast custom rom will squash all she is complaining about (it did for me with my Vibrant). My question which one of these roms will give her that fast, super smooth and stable experience she wants? I know they're both great roms but is one better than the other in terms of speed, no lag, stability all around? And if there are better roms please let me know. I'd really appreciate it. I plan on flashing her phone over the weekend, so I'm trying to get the best rom out now. Thanks in advance.

[Q] Best Nexus S Rom?

Hi guys,
I was wondering if I could get some advice. I had the Nexus One and had Cyanogen running on it, which I loved. I got the nexus S at christmas and love it... the random reboots did annoy me until 2.3.3 came out. Recently I rooted the phone and flashed modaco custom ROM based on 2.3.3 with the KB3 radio and GRI 54 base.
I was wondering if your guys opinions, what is the best ROM to flash, that is stable, with not random boots etc. but an improvment on what I have?
Thanks!!
They're all great. Try them all and see which you like the best.
Personally, I like CM 7 because of the T-Mobile theme engine that allows me to change the appearance of the ROM with the touch of a button. No more constant flashing of themes for me!
CM, only CM)
I was a CM7 fanboy untill i tried MIUI
MIUI without a seconds doubt...

I've tried a lot and although they all have their advantages I always come back to CM. It generally picks up all the great little mods that the community develop not to mention all its own great features.
Bear in mind that it is still not technically stable yet though R2 has been pretty good for me with only a couple of reboots since installing on the day it was released. Once we get the full stable CM7 it will be a tough one to beat
Cyanogen Mod 7 only.

I will elaborate. I've run every ROM available since January (when I got my NS). I've tried almost every release of those ROMs as well and I can honestly say that they are all awesome for different reasons. I try really hard not to be biased to one ROM or one developer because it tends to cloud your ability to try different things with an open mind. Right now I have NANDroid backups of CM7rc2, MIUI, Axura, NSCollab, Stock 2.3.3, Stock 2.3.3 Deodexed, and Honeycomb.
I'm always sad to see these thread because I think its asking the wrong question altogether. What these threads should ask is "What is your daily driver?" because "best" is so subjective to uses and personal preference. What some love about CM7 is also what many other hate. The iOS look of MIUI is both on of its most loved and hated qualities. Whatever tweaks a particular dev or team of devs seems fit to include may be exactly what a person wants or what a person doesn't want.
Now, I've said my diatribe and I'll answer the other question: "What is your daily driver?"
I have two. Some days I run CM7rc2, some days I run Axura. Once the white background issue is cleared up in MIUI, I'll add that to the rotation as well.
Cm7. Other roms are good for if you're bored and want to flash something new. Pretty sure everyone ends up on cm7 for stability and features better than stock.
Axura is my everyday driver. Its fast and its been the most stable for me.

I must agree entirely. I tried CM7 for awhile but it wasn't stable enough for me. I've never had a ROM as stable and fast and clean looking as Axura! I'd recommended at least giving a few of them a try though. The stickied thread by Kenvan is a wonderful resource!

CM7 for me.. the settings that CM7 offer are just too good to give up.
Axura for speed and animation, and CM for usability.

[Q] Best/Most stable/Feature Complete GB Rom

I do know that every phone is different and "best" is subjective however are the new crop of GB roms I've been reading up on in the dev section are any of them "better" than any other in the criteria I asked about 1 thing is I do remember 1 of the roms saying that geotagging on the camera was disabled if I did flash I want that feature badly thanks in advance for your opinions. One other question is should I just wait till the official leak is hacked ect.
Lul in b4 the lock.
Read each rom thread buddeh. Good luck
I recommend gr-12. Very stable atm. Also, MikeyMike does phenomenal work on his roms. Pays a lot of attention to detail.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I am using GR-12 as my daily driver. Haptic feedback works on the home key (doesn't with other GB ROMs yet) and the geotagging is optional in the camera. There has been an update every 2-3 days with the GR ROMs.
For me its been the best GB ROM. But its far from stable. Every time I make a phone call I have to reboot. GR-11 didn't do this, so I may have a bad flash. One thing that has been consistent with all the GB ROMs I have tried is random freezing, and randomly rebooting itself. I put up with it, because its not a big deal to me.
If you are looking for a fast, stable, every day use ROM keep with the FroYo ROMs. I personally recommend FireFly.
We still have not seen a stable official release of Gingerbread from Samsung. The I9000 ROM was pulled, I bet there were reasons for that. I would bet it won't be much longer than a month for the dev's to work out all the bugs with GB, but we're not there yet.
Sent from my Captivate running GR-12
Thanks for the info so far I am in fact running FF 3.0 and love it I think it might have a minor mem leak or I might need to re-flash but like clockwork every 3'ish days i have to reboot but thats not a big deal to me I have been doing the incremental upgrade from 2.6 all the way to 3.0 I may just wait till 3.1(WFW if you get the reference) and do a clean install so I am not new to flashing just don't want to do it daily.
Largely they are all the same rom themed differently. read the op and focus on optimizations. Outside of some tweaks and kernel choice perception of a difference is mainly placebo

New to Inspire 4G - Most stable ROM overall??

I'm new here but not to Android, I've been following SGS2 for a while. I gave my Inspire 4G to my brother but he wants it rooted now.
What is the best option for speed and battery life over stock for a 15 year old? He plays games quite a bit and just wants it to look cool and be fast.
I've heard CM7 is solid as well as Miui, is there something else I should look into? Something closer to stock.
Im running UnNamed on my SGS2 which I dont think is available on this device (we have CM7 and Miui too but its not for me).
Thanks for the help and please don't just flame me out for "not searching" because I have.
You will get many different opinions on Roms, best is to try to see what works best for you. I use Arhd 6.3.1 and have zero problems.

I don't believe you searched because if you did you would notice that every thread created like this ends with, THERE IS NO OVERALL BEST STABLE ROM! You must try it for yourself. Every user will swear by their ROM they use. There is no perfect or most stable ROM..every ROM has its bugs and its on you to decide what you can live with and what you can't.

Need a good ICS rom

hey guys
As you see I am a nexus S owner, but a friend of mine got a brand new captivate .
and now he asked me to root and put a ICS rom on it..
I looked into the development section of captivate and I saw a couple of ICS roms.
I couldnt decide which one to put..
I am looking for a ICS rom (without touchwiz) that has stability, speed and good battery life.
and what are the recommended kernels?
Thank you so much
AOKP is definitely one of the better roms, most features, very stable, decent battery life. Comes with the glitch kernel which has the memory boost, and is very fast and smooth.

The only way to know is to try them all. Personally, I've tried CM9, Gummy, Dark Night, AOKP, and I would have to say my favorite is CM9 because of the feature integration and nightly updates. But it's really up to what you like the most. Each one is going to have slightly different features and different UI elements, and they may differ in performance and speed.
These threads aren't allowed, and will hopefully be locked soon. The reason why is that you see how you got answers of different ROMs, that is because it is a SUBJECTIVE matter, meaning only you/your friend can decide.
I'm trying to find an ICS rom / kernel setup with the best battery life without losing performance. Anyone have any tips for this?
battery live depends on YOU and YOUR APPS. and how much YOU keep touching the screen and looking at the ICS eyecandy.
this is true for ANY rom. kernel makes a minor difference on battery. but not as much as YOU do. the rom itself makes no difference in battery.
These threads are not permitted as they are only subjective oppinions, and when you ask get an aswer from a dev or team member of a rom.... guess which one they will recommend to you?? THEIRS. so you dont get any objective advice.
Try them yourself. read about them in their threads. see what other people like you have already said about the roms in their Dev thread or their Q&A thread. and decide for yourself.
try my new rom, SimplyAOKPV1.0. Its odexed=faster and based off of aokp b32. fresh from the oven!
Ty for all suggestions. I will download some and flash tomorrow.

[Q] Help choosing ICS ROM for Skyrocket

Hello all,
Wondering if you guys can help me decide whether to flash an ICS ROM or not?
I have my Skyrocket tweaked and set up perfectly. It contains...
Version: 2.3.5 (refuse to upgrade to 2.3.6 due to many issues I see some are having)
Kernel: 2.6.35.11+ (excellent "stock-ish" ROM from romracer)
Launcher: Go Launcher EX
Phone is rooted and like to use CWM.
With that said, I'm wondering what is the best option to try? My main concern is obviously performance and battery life. I have spectacular battery life right now and don't want to lose it by flashing an ICS ROM.
Perhaps something that will work with the romracer kernel? For example, something that would still allow me to use CWM and MUST also support boot animations and BLN support. That is a must for me, as I use it to tweak my battery life quite a bit.
Anyways,
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
--mike

If you decide that you can live without the BLN and overclocking then make a nandroid and give smooth ice a try, skyics is also good I hear.
I've tried smooth ice for like a month almost and it is really stable and the battery was good too.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727
If you do not have the heart for glitches, ICS may not serve you well. There is no real benefit that I can see unless you are a hardcore phone tweaker. I am always debating whether to just go back to stock GB myself !!!
BUT if you really have the itch, the safest is mhx's full bloat stock. I used that for a long time, and it is very - relatively- stable.
here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570498&highlight=full+bloat
My 4 cents....
Close eyes. Now say eni mini miny Moe! Just flash them all. U could use the experience and see everyone's roms instead of asking.... hrllo
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
you gotta wait till kernel source is released before you'll have bln and oc but maybe try smooth ice if you want touchwiz but id try cm7 if you haven't or cm9 its all alpha buy lots have used it as a daily driver... I just hate touchwiz
CM9 Skyrocket
Thanks...
Thank you all for the feedback.
This is what I though! lol
I will stick with GB for now. I get amazing battery life, is extremely stable and love all the extra features after tweaking.
Was just curious....
Thanks again,

Battery Life & Stability
Thanks to the OP for this thread. I'm in a similar boat, but am just looking for the most stable custom ROM with the longest battery life. Coming from rooted Gingerbread, I've setup my ICS exactly the same (debloated and lean), and my time between charges was cut by 1/3 at least.
From my limited research, the CM9 Beta 1 ROM sounds to have excellent battery life and great stability. However, I'm open to suggestions! One question I have though, is I keep hearing folks talk about "nightlies". That that mean it requires nightly updating? Thanks in advance.
I've been using PTSD's AOKP ICS ROM and I love it. I've mixed that with InstigatorX's Kernel and my battery life is amazing. I'm an Android noob, but I'm digging this setup.

the word nightly means that it's scheduled to auto build a new version with any fixes made during the day... It wont auto update your Rom though you have to manually install it
It is a very easy process though. you download the new nightly and reboot to recovery: wipe system and wipe cache then install, wipe dalvik and fix permissions and reboot if you installed any mods like inverted apps or gps fix or dpi changes they need to also be addresses after the first boot
Because i don't like setting it up all the time i just install the new nightly weekly
CM9 Skyrocket
I actually *just* restored to Gingerbread today, after months of using Cyanogenmod 9's official and nightly releases, as well as the InstigatorX kernels.
My battery life was okay, but for all the extra bells and whistles, they seem to get the basics wrong, unfortunately :/ I still couldn't send texts larger than 160 characters without splitting them up, and they'd always arrive out of order, or not at all. Other apps wouldn't behave properly either, and my mobile network connection seemed to change/drop just from looking at it.
So CM9 looked promising, but still has a ways to go, and it's rated as one of the better ROMs for this phone. I didn't even want to try CM10, because their bug list is still bigger than CM9.
Can I ask where you got your romracer kernel? I'll have to give that a try. Also I'm looking to replace the current radio with something better.
I had to rebuild from scratch because somehow my gingerbread backup was corrupted. I used Bonestocketeer's ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357274 ) and the only issue I've had with it is I can't change the LTE/HSPA/GSM setting in Mobile Networks to just HSPA/GSM. I was able to with my original ROM, and that seemed to help battery life.
Thanks again for your post!

At least tell him why. You report hounds are all the same.
To OP, james has reported you because the title and nature of this thread suggests asking which rom is the best, which is prohibited in this forum because "which x is best" threads can usually promote flaming and whatnot. It's like asking who likes the Yankees, and then fans of other teams riot about how their team is the best.
This comes as a surprise as I see you've been a member for a while. Assuming that other forums have similar rules to the SR forum.

My recommendation would be NexusMod, then. It features the proprietary performance tweaks available in the TouchWiz ROMs, so it's faster than Cyanogenmod, but it has a lot of theming that makes it look and feel closer to AOSP. There are still some ugly elements of TouchWiz that exist, but it's a big improvement over a lot of the other TouchWiz-based ROMs.
For sure, CM9 has more features and tweaking options, and a more consistent AOSP look to it, but it's slower than NexusMod and still has some very minor bugs. It does, perhaps, offer you a few more options in how to save battery, though.
I have to say, though ICS is a massive improvement over GB and we have stable, mature ICS ROMs available. I would strongly advise upgrading, but if you're concerned about bugs, stick with a light TW-based rom like NexusMod.
