[Q] Telus baseband and sbf - Defy Android Development

Ok, so I picked up the new Telus Defy with the 850/1900 3g band for use with AT&T and it works great with 3g speeds better than I was getting with my Atrix.
So far, I've installed MIUI and OCed it and am pretty happy with the phone, but am hesitant to really start playing with it as I can't seem to find a Telus OE SBF - anyone have one?
Also, can someone tell me if the baseband changer included with CM7 be able to retain the 850/1900 3g bands?
Thanks guys!

if you got the original ROM running right now, grab the baseband, zip it, post it here, and I do a compare to tell you if it's included or not. You need to copy this folder: /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default
If its a new one I would like to include it in the Basebandswitcher.
These US Basebands are included in the Basebandswitcher:
US T-Mobile 3.4.2-107-4 Frequency Bands: 850/1700/2100MHz
US T-Mobile 3.4.2-107-9 Frequency Bands: 850/1700/2100MHz
US T-Mobile 6.xx.0 Frequency Bands: 850/1700/2100MHz
Have a look at the Basebandswitcherthread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052745

Didn't realize that the baseband was just a folder under system - thought it was a separately flashed partition.
Anyways, here is a copy of the Baseband that came with the Canadian Telus Defy 850/1900.
Let us know how it compares to what you already have in the switcher!

I'll post back here, thanks for the Baseband. Can you post some infos about the ROM you currently use? A screenshot from the telefoninfo for example?

Does the baseband also rely on the firmware that was flashed to the phone?
Anotherwords, if you flash an sbf for a 900/2100 market to a phone with the 850/1900 bands, can you just use the baseband switcher and select the 850/1900 bands, or do you also need to flash the corresponding baseband partition?

There's no spezial parition for the basebands. When you select a baseband for your region/contry/provider you'll be fine no matter what you flashed before

Having a little trouble here with the baseband:
Started with an unlocked Telus Defy (850/1900). With the stock firmware and on the ATT network I was getting great up/down speeds - better than with my ATT Atrix.
After making a backup, I flashed NORDIC and CM7, and using the baseband switcher built it, I now get (relatively) slow Internet connectivity regardless if I use TMobile (850/2100) or Argentina (850/1900).
So I tried copying the bp_nvm_default folder from my original Telus backup to the phone running CM7, but now get no service! Is there an additional setting I need to change? Maybe one of the dbs? I'd really like to get the Telus baseband working with CM7!!!

I have a wcdma 900/2100 one and flashed T-Mobile rom, and no way to connect to T-Mobile or any hspa provider in north america

[Q] Need help with Nexus S 4G UMTS and custom roms

Hi, I'm new to android and I recently signed up with Mobilicity for a Nexus S 4G.
I've figured out how to root my phone but for some reasons every custom rom I tried is not picking up any signals at all. (except WIFI)
So I am starting to think that it might be the type of signal (UMTS) that Mobilicity offers that doesnt work with custom roms?
Correct me if I'm wrong, and please help me with solutions, Thanks!

Mobilicity is a GSM carrier. Do you actually have a Nexus S 4G (a CDMA device) or have you been flashing Nexus S 4G Roms onto your device (in which case you are flashing a rom/radio for a CDMA device onto a GSM device)?

hmm, on the box it saids Nexus S but when I try flashing Miui for Nexus S, it wouldn't work unless I'm using the 4G version so i assumed that my phone is 4G.
And the phone status says that my "Mobile network type" is UMTS.

If you got it from Mobilicity it's the GSM version (AWS frequency, i9020 or i9020T by model number).
If you've flashed a radio for the NS4G (a CDMA device) or the i9020a this is going to break things.
What radio are you currently running? If you can't get service flash back to a stock i9020t ROM and see what you get. You can grab a full stock ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664
that's exaclty what's happening to me, i got a nexus said to be a I9020A (under de battery), and on the manual says it's the nexus s 4g. the problem is (the same as darkkame) that the type of signal, in the settings says it's UMTS, so is neither CDMA nor GSM i think.
i live in chile, south america, and that's the problem i'm having with custom roms, particulary with the ice cream sandwich one, it only let me flash the nexus s 4g version of the rom but not the 3g one and i have everything working except the cell reception and 3g signal.
sorry for the poor redaction xD

thanks for the clarification, then my nexus isn't really the 4g version (despite what it says on the manual), but for some reason the ice cream sandwich rom acknowledge my device as a CDMA when it isn't so it won't le me flash the nexus 3g version of the rom (brings "installation cancelled" on the recovery), only the 4g optimized rom, but that's when i get no cellular reception nor 3g.
just have to wait for the official ics release then
Redownload the GSM version and verify the MD5. Installation Canceled usually means its a bad zip or the updater-script is jacked.
Sent from my Bionix on the Nexus S using XDA App
i found the problem, because i mistakenly thought my nexus was a 4g version ('cause that's what it says on the manual), i followed the rooting and clockmodwork installing procedure for the nexus s 4g variant, now i reverted the procedure, but this time for the 3g version of the phone and voilá i can now install the ice cream sandwich rom and have the cellular reception
maybe this solution applies for the author of this thread too
Can you provide a link to the rom you installed?

About Ginger Baseband for 850/1900

Hi, I`ve seen a lot of posts asking if the gingerbread baseband available in this forum is compatible with P920H.. well, it is, but the 850/1900 bands for 3G WILL NOT WORK. So, if you flash the baseband on the P920H you will lose the 3G connection. Besides that, everything else in GB ROMs is working perfectly on P920H, including the FM Radio (you can find it in the development forum).
Sorry for my bad english.
greetings.

[Q] Eu 3g device, Us rom 3g gone! Help anyone??

Hi every one!
I have an xoom 3g eu. After rooting etc i lost my 3g. Now im on lte ics wich is us. Is it in anyway possible that i get my 3g back? On a eu device with us rom?
Thx

Same Problem.
I think team eos release a non us 3g rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459641
I think you'll find the problem is your Euro 3G MZ601 uses GSM radio and hardware while the US 3G MZ602 uses CDMA radio and hardware. Thus the US ROMs don't interface correctly with you MZ601.
The new EOS ICS for Euro 3G works very well on my Hong Kong sourced MZ601 with Australian Telstra 3G.
For pain free installation I would suggest running "fastboot oem unlock" again before flashing to ensure a clean install.

Sprint to Verion and vice-versa

Noob question.
Now that we have an unlocked bootloader is the vzw hw so different from the sprint one?
Can we somehow install a custom rom (stock or no) that was designed for the S3 sprint one and vice-versa from vzw to sprint? Without porting.
If not then why?
Good Question, I would like to know this too. (BUMP)

No, you are most likely not going to be able to use a Sprint rom on this phone. They use different radios and most likely a different bootloader.
Also, the LTE frequency for both devices are different and the Sprint version uses the 800, 850 and 1900mhz cdma frequencies wheres the verizon version is only 850 and 1900. The Sprint uses 1900Mhz for 4G as well.
I think the only way this would work would be if a dev made a rom that was specifically for the CDMA version of the phones and would detect which type it was running on before flashing

[Q] Urgent Help Nedded

I have unlocked nexus s i9023. I flashed lot of roms and somehow it stopped working (no signal at all) with some networks. For example when I was india, it wasn't working with any network(they operate at 900 MHz). But when I moved to US and got a net10 sim card, it worked, and with at&t as well (850 MHz I suppose). But now I got tmobile, which I suppose works with 900Mhz, and its not working.
Conclusion: As far as I know mobile nexus s is not working with network operators who use 900 Mhz, and it works only with 850Mhz band only.
If any of you have any idea what could be be wrong and how to fix then please help me.
Thanks in Advance
I9023 works on all 4 bands. So it should work unless there is some problem with radio. I suggest you flash back Googler stock factory images. That would correct any radio issues. There is a thread in general section which explains the steps for flashing factory images.

Yeh it was working on all 4 bands before I tried a crappy MIUI rom, but after that it stopped working for few networks who runs on 900 Mhz.
I did everything.... installed factory image from here, and even tried different flashing radios but nothing worked so far
