[Q]Petition: Should HTC Re-issue a new design on the back cover? - HTC Sensation

After receiving my handset. all the death grip issues, losing wifi and some signal. I feel HTC Should redesign the back cover and send one out for each IMEI.
The backcover is flawed and atleast it all comes off. so replacing it should be no problem. The least they can do for a £500 phone.
how does everyone feel?

as we have a poll for the bootloader, why not have a poll for our deathgrip. after all bootloader is useless if the phone wont function correctly with deathgrip

It seems like the most direct way to address the problem, but I'm not sure that HTC are willing to take the hit on profit...

Yes they need to since this is clearly a hardware issue which couldnt just be solved with software updates.

Another problem riddle handset from HTC
Well they will simply deny first! (Already did I read somewhere)
Then they will acknowledge! (Very Soon)
Then will ship a rubber band to solve the problem!
They will not do back cover redesign, that cost money!
Remember HTC has many other model handset. even Evo 3D is now due.
Apple had only one model phone even then they refuse to redo.

Im really thinking about selling it now

All devices have some sort of grip issue depending how you hold them. Some people are saying they have no issues at all when on a call.
I voted NO.

Yes they do not have any issues with call as the death grip issue referred to here is not for call but for wifi and bluetooth issues.

Wow - death-grip wouldn't bother me in the least, at least it's better than the reboot-o-matic G2x ! I've been through FOUR of them now, each one of them has been a clinker!
I'll be more than happy to pick up a Sensation next week when they are available.

I have been saying this from Day 1.
The Sensations Design is inferior to previous phones designs... HTC will not do anything unfortunately.
I fear HTC is falling back into its old ways...

With all these known problems, should I buy a sensation for a really good price?

Hello everyone,
Well after glancing this thread, I've noticed that there have been known problems related with touchscreen, dust, and battery life. I can get a brand new sensation sealed for 320 $ off contract. Is it worth it with all these problems? I had a g2x and sold it due to its problems and it seems like the sensation has more problems than the g2x. Also, I won't have a receipt so I can't exchange it like many of you if I have a problem.
I currently have a nexus S that will be faster than the stock sensation. The reason I want to buy this phone is because I need more space and I have a 32 gb sdhc laying around that I can use.
I know that the dust as well as unresponsive touchscreen will be a big annoyance. However, the price makes it so tempting.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks
The risk is that phone may have death grip issue.
Almost every single smart-phone released within the last 2 years, android or otherwise has had a similar concoction of problems, either screen, dust, battery, whatever.
I've had 0 issues with my device and am amazingly happy.

Thanks for your input. However, my nexus S has been working perfectly with no dust, touchscreen issues etc. I just wish it would have a microsd slot
I would steer well clear of the Sensation until the bootloader situation is resolved. It is pointless 'downgrading' in terms of the performance you will get out of the box and pointless leaving a device that works perfectly for one with a variety of niggling issues.

It's a dice roll, and no one here has the facts to know what the risks are of getting a bad phone.
It has yet to be determined if the wifi and touchscreen issues are HW or SW or some combination. There's evidence that supports each conclusion. Battery life is probably related to usage, sync options, and some apps, so can be tweaked as on all phones. If the upcoming SW update from HTC resolves the wifi and screen response problems then I'd say the phone is probably worth risking. If not, then who knows?
Without knowing the exact causes and the actual failure rates all you'll get are guesses. My advice, if you buy it have a plan B on how to exit if it turns bad.
I got my sensation launch day, 0 problems except that the front facing camera doesn't outperform many other smartphone ffc's in low light.
You should buy that phone, and you should PM me and tell me how I can get one for that price.
Unless there's just one, then you shouldn't buy it and just tell me how I can.

I'd steer clear for now just because it seems like the stock rom is going to be a lot laggier than what the Nexus S has to offer. It's laggier even than the Evo3D, for some reason.
Chuck in the battery life, dust under the screen and the probability that you'll develop the touchscreen wonkiness over time, and I'd wait until it's been properly updated
No issues on my end.. phone is working great for me. I think the battery life issue is way overblown (power users who will never find an OEM willing to make a battery that meets their needs but is overkill for the average user). The tech blogs show the the Sensation to be above average and better than the other "superphones" I checked; http://www.laptopmag.com/review/cell-phones/htc-sensation-4g.aspx?mode=benchmarks&cids=2804,2800,pa
I find it highly convenient that you chose to link to one of the few sites that rated the Sensation above its main rival. I'm not saying the Sensation is a bad device as I would have bought one weeks ago had the bootloader been unlocked or HTC bothered to release a timetable for it. However the fact remains that the vast majority of sites put the Sensation second in every category bar build quality and Sense (which comes down to personal preference and at least you have the option to change things on rival devices).
So your giving advice and you dont even own the phone?
I find it funny you guys mentioned dust under screen like it's widespread issue everyone has. But truthfully it's not . Nor does every phone suffer from screen responsive issues.
I know these for a fact cause I had 3 sensations none of them had the same issues. In fact none of them had dust under the screen. The phone I have in my hands right now. Has been nothing short of perfect. I have not had any issues.

Not giving you a hard time, I've just seen way too many posts saying the phone was perfect for X days, then all of a sudden it started degrading. Same happened to me, 5 days perfect, by day 7 totally dead. Hopefully I'll get lucky on the replacement, but I'm only semi-optimistic.
Buy it and sell it on ebay ...you can get around $500 for it either way buy and and figure out what you wanna do later

Actually the 1st one had issues overheating ect. The 2nd one was fine I just wanted the sharp screen. I got the phone with my preffered screen and it's giving no issues 1 week in. But if you wanna judge a phone off someone else's experience or off a few bad phones in a batch. Then to each his own.

Pressed screen sound

Does the sensation make cracking sounds when you press on the screen with little effort? It is similar to the sound the back battery cover makes when it gets pressed on other devices. Just quivering if its a defect or normal. I think its the noise of the edge of the screen rubbing with the frame of the phone.

There are a lot of threads about this. A lot off people are getting new covers from HTC. You can also try to put a little tape on the inside of the cover, to make.it more snug

so this is common and most people can hear a noise of the phones cover when the screen is pressed using about the same amount of pressure as snapping your fingers?

I'm getting it next week so I'll let you know. I did my exchange through T-Mobile. I tried doing it online, but the CSR rep wasn't picking up on what I said so I just called. They handle all the stuff for me and are sending me a phone from HTC.
I got my replacement today and it was just the phone, not the back cover. Not sure if it's a refurb or a new model. I have no more creaking sounds and the screen doesn't "give" anymore either. Hope that helps.
If it makes a noise when you press "right there" then don't press right there. Never in by wildest dreams have I ever thought of returning my phone cuz it made "a noise". I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous. You complain about sounds created from actions that aren't part of everyday use. It's like you sit and look for defects just so you have something to complain about. It's insane. I'm sorry if this comes off as rude or a rant, but it just bugs me seeing just so many useless threads like this.

If you're talking to me, it isn't the only issue I had. I had light leaking through the bottom left hand corner, the text/screen flicker issue, and the fact the battery would overheat while charging at times. I paid a premium price for the phone and I expect to get my money's worth. I don't think that's unfair.

I agree. i have searched and found a bunch of people that had the creaking sound when pressing on the screen. unsure why but my intention was to find out of it was common and everyone had this issue or not. i also have screen problems at times and that is when i called tmobile about it and at the end mentioned the creaking sound. the back shell is defective thats why its creaking. if i really wanted to start picking things to complain and return the device i would have done that for not having a external sd or small pointless crap like that or how the official case covers holes in the back. i also had pixalation problems on the screen. my biggest problem was just i had to press the screen a bunch of times just to get it to respond. we are paying $500+ for phones so we expect them to work!

On some units, yes. But not all units have these issues. I didn't even mention the lock screen issue when half of the screen disappears or the ring isn't responsive. I wouldn't mind if I only had one of those issues, but all of them combined got to be too much.

I see your point, but I guess what I'm trying to get at is that me personally, I read up a whole lot on every phone I get before I make that jump to buy. I have "a person" that gets the newest gadgets to me alot cheaper than retail and I still read up. So, if i was gonna pay $600 for a new device, please believe I'd have studied on it long and hard first, knowing all of the pros and cons, and weighing them out. Them making the purchase and being satisfied with what I'd bought because I made a solid decision after thoroughly researching it.
BTW, sorry to hear you got a bad one. So far, the only issue I've had with mine has been the fact that sometimes it takes 5 or 6 tries to unlock the screen cuz the icons move instead of the ring, so I can understand your frustration.

Did it have anything about the warranty? New units have one year. Refurbs come with 90 days. So if it was a new unit, it could technically say 1 year. I dont know for sure, just guessing. How's the quality of the replacement unit? Any scratches/blemishes anywhere? Thx.

No, it didn't. Not as far as I can tell.
It's not too bad. Don't see any scratches/dust/or whatever. The speaker isn't as good as my old one and the yellow tint is a bit noticeable, but there's no screen flicker. Other then that it's a pretty good phone.

Buying a Sensation.. what to look out for?

I think I am buying a Bell Sensation locally, very good price. Just had some questions about the device and what should I look out for?
1. Gonna check the box to say z710a? And I will put my AT&T SIM in there to make sure it works properly and stuff.. Also will check GPS, WiFi, see if touchscreen is responsive, etc.
2. Are there any issues COMMON to Sensations I should look out for?
(FOR EXAMPLE) Most G2x has screen bleed issues.. MyTouch 4G had issues with good screen vs. bad screen
Anything common in Sensations I should look out for?
3. Is there anything in general I should check out for when buying the phone?
Is there a water damage indicator on the phone anywhere?
Thanks a lot XDA
Ppl are gunna say dust under screen, bad performance, but I don't have any problems.

Alright I will check for that, but as long as it's not terribly dusty there I probably won't mind. Thanks for the suggestion ( I thanked your post! )
Any other ones are greatly appreciated!
ALSO, he's giving me the box and all that stuff.. If I ever god forbid had an issue how is HTC with their warranties and all that? Could I send it in with just the phone?
Do I need documentation from the guy, or the phone good enough

i bought mine off of craigslist and it had dust under the screen so i didnt care much because i can clean it. witch i clean mine once a week. about performance and everything works excellent. i guarantee you, you will love it. im coming from a g2x and the screen bleed didnt bother me as much
and i never had the problems people talk about with rebooting and stuff.
there are still cool roms for the g2x as it is for the sensation. i bought the sensation not because of sense but because its camera quality. i think its better than the one on the g2x meaning the ffc. with more features and stuff. not mention the 3rd parties camera apps just the stock one.
plus i had insurance with my previous g2x and i knew if i start using the sensation and something was wrong with it i can order a replacement.
but honestly so far im loving htc because they seems to care about their customer and updates their phone regularly.
as they already talked about updating with ICS
The only thing I can think of is dust under the screen. I myself don't have the problem, but I know alot of people do.

Sensation turned out to be in fact the Bell version and is perfect!

known issues with HTC One S (metallic grey version)

I want to hear the opinion of those which are already using this version of HOS. Are there any problems regarding the construction (quality build) of the product? So far, the only major issue is related to the fact that is slippery but you can solve that with a nice protective cover.

To me the only issue is that the phone is so damn sexy I take it out of my pocket much more often so the chance of dropping it increases as well. And I am using the clear hard shell case which does not cover top and bottom.
I think this is a known issue of the phone design.

Hmm using it more and more without sweaty hands I also can confirm that it's quite slippery. But this feeling is also quite lovely! Since I really hate cases cause they hide the beautiful design and make each phone look the same, I certainly have to think about a solution...

I got a very similar case but with Andy on the back. I'm looking for a case with a transparent back so I can show off the sexy backside.
Sent from the (problematic?) One S.
The only issue I have is the radio. My signal jumps up and down constantly in areas where I never had issues. Many others are having the same issues. They're also experiencing wifi issues.
Sense 4.0 is nice and definitely an improvement over previous version but it's still a pain to change settings and stuff. I'm rocking the Apex Launcher right now and it's great.
The hardware is sleek and sexy, and it speak for itself.

Yes, apart from known software issues which exist on both black and grey one s, such as data connection and WiFi, the build quality is very good.
I have 4 cases already... One official clear hard shell, one cheap solid black tpu, one clear white tpu, and one clear s line tpu which the seller wrongly sent to me. So still waiting for my fifth case which is a plain clear tpu I actually ordered from the last seller. He did not want the s line back cos the postage costs half of the case price.
I personally don't mind case, but i do agree that hiding the beauty of the phone is a crime! so, I tried different clear case. Hope the coming plain clear tpu ordered from eBay UK is the best answer.

I swapped SIM and then a new phone and the signal issue is still there though I do have to say it feels a little better overall.

Nice, I'll definitely check it out. There's one at the TMobile store but it's a little pricey. If i can get it for cheaper on Amazon I'll do it but if not i might cave and get it from the TMobile store. Speaking of which time to hit Amazon again.

Received the replacement case on Saturday. However, it is not absolutely clear... It is white clear, yea the base colour is white but gives some transparency.
Not very pleased but did not bother going back to seller cos only paid 99 pence and for two cases with a sock.
Seems like the hunting of a clear transparent case is still ongoing.
By the way, I went to the Chinese eBay alike website to see what offered there. No different from what we have in UK eBay and amazon. Given the fact that most of the case is manufactured in China, I have to wait for either they pick up or a local English brand to come up with something nice.

HTC Modifying One X Construction To Improve WiFi Reliability

http://pocketnow.com/2012/06/18/htc-modifying-one-x-construction-to-improve-wifi-reliability/
That’s good news for future One X owners, and current owners affected by the problem should be able to get their phones replaced with one of these re-engineered models under warranty.

I know my AT&T HOX is definitely affected by the wifi problems. I don't want to replace it but it seems like the only solution.
The hardware problem being fixed is on the international version isn't it? Our phone doesn't have antenna connection in the same place.

I asked HTC support on twitter to clarify if it's hox xl. Nobody seems to have any clarity on which versions are affected. I know my AT&T version has a lot of wifi problems (even after the update).

In the article linked in the op. The info from htc is coming from the European division of the company so I think they're only talking about the international phone.

My HTC one X AT&T version has wifi connection issue. It cannot pick up wifi signal at some spots of my home while my laptop has no such problem. I hope HTC will fix the issue for my phone.

It seems AC was able to reach someone at HTC and (semi-)confirmed its the Tegra-3 variant of the HOX.

Also, as @gunnyman has pointed out, the LTE(XL, S4) variant's antenna contacts are in a completely different place.
The best thing I take from this information is comparing Apple's "You're holding it wrong" to HTC's "It's hardware and we're fixing it"
I think I'm betting on the right horse here.

Every WiFi device has a different antenna configuration and signal strength. You can't expect every device to behave exactly the same. More importantly than whether another device gets good signal, are the locations your One X is having trouble not very far from your WiFi router, and without a lot of solid objects between the router and your phone?
Its only a tegra 3 issueeeee

I'm not convinced we all have the same issues....
So far i've found there to be 2 main problems with the WiFi.
1, Soft case depression,
2, bluetooth interference
(Very common, which plagues many other devices, Iphone & Ipad are all over Google with this issue, its to do with sharing the 2.4ghz frequency. flip off the bluetooth and the problem goes away.)
After testing I can confirm that i do not have the WiFi soft case depression problem, I reckon that's the sort of problem that could easily develop. You could create this issue by doing the very squeeze test suggested, crushing the contacts, laying them down as proposed is happening... don't accidentally sit on your phone!
The problem i and many have is the bluetooth interference preventing the WiFi from picking up signal and connecting, this is resolved by killing the BT.
I have been testing for 2 weeks, very disappointed with HTC. however the BT problem i have seems fixable with software, I think i have just solved my BT problem by swapping out the rom until i found one that works ok. I believe i have, and will keep testing.
It is certainly nice to have something in print from HTC, i'd like to see the guy in the shop try to squirm his way out off giving you guys your money back now!!

Is this information even correct......
What the hell....
HTCpedia is not the official website of HTC, who the is Athanasios Zarkadas?. IN the about section for HTCpedia, they say the are just a group of people that like HTCs
i dont even know that this is an official HTC press release...
I followed the links.. its suggesting this is an HTC release, the basis for Pocketnow running the story is because they have visited XDA-developers and are quoting bunch of us!
the story makes this statement...
A statement from the company’s European division explains, “we have taken immediate steps to implement a solution in our production process to prevent this issue from happening in the future.”
Where's the official statement reference link??
There's been no recall, there's nothing from HTC to enforce your warranty in the store.
Maybe it gets released over the next few days, who knows. a little skeptical for now though.

Lol that still upsets me to this day that they would say something like that to the consumers who buy their products. What were they thinking? Did they really think we'd buy that response?

dude so many of them did. I have so many iSheep friends who argued that there was no hardware problem.
I like Apple, they build quality hardware, but the degree to which Jobs utilized his Reality Distortion Field was obnoxious.
I sincerely hope it died with him.
Just spoke to HTC tech support over the phone. He didn't give me an exact date but he was very furious at AT&T because they're clearly the ones holding the software update for our phone back. He must have mentioned AT&T and "other players in the pot" atleast 5 times in our 20 minute conversation.
The best i got out of him "it's at the very end" and "just wait a few weeks".

So this is confusing, is HTC correct in telling you that a software release is coming to fix this, or is pocketnow correct by stating its hardware(Not confirm by anyone else except pocketnow)
We keep referring to this "WiFi issue" as one topic, but like I speculated earlier, there's 2 issues going on here, antenna conection which is hardware, & 2.4ghz frequency clash with blue tooth.
These are to unrelated problems.
