[Q] EU MZ604 - XOOM with Wi-Fi possible to flash a stock US Rom? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Current have a stock 3.01 Xoom in the UK.
EU MZ604 - XOOM with Wi-Fi
Is it possible to flash a stock US Rom?
so basically
1). Unlock device.
2). Download US stock 3.1 from mortorola site
3). complete install and that is it?
or
Is that to simple and will brick my Device?
The reason behind this is i want this device to be 3.1 and the google experience and with no clear update time for the 3.1 in the UK and this model not being a 3g i think this would benifit me best??
Thanks.
tomashley90

Yep I did it today with no probs. Check post 7 in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093112
I wanted root and tiamat so did everything but the language pack stuff but if you're not interested in rooting just do up to step 3.
Oh and do not relock your device eventhough it says to on the moto site.

Thanks for the reply mate will crack on with this tomorrow and let you know how I got on. How you finding it? Was it worth it
Sent from my MZ604 using XDA Premium App

It's great having SD but more important to me was USB host and ability for nandroid and titanium backups. It's working out great so far! I haven't overclocked yet but I'll probably give it a go when I've got time this weekend.

I had flashed US 3.1, not rooted, and successfully downgraded back to 3.0.1 WW this morning in more or less the same way I updated to the leaked fw. The instructions are in these very forums and they work fine.

Just out of curiosity, did you Root your device? If yes, did you use a WI-FI only image? If you have not Rooted your device, maybe give some more information on the device specs to allow us to help you out even more?
Yes my Xoom is rooted. I'm using Tiamat 2.0 Rom and Tiamat Tachi Kernal

I am guessing you used this forum for the Download of your ROM for your tablet -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146153 -- and while reading it, I noticed that there are many times that solarnz says things like:
Version 2.0
Rebased off the 3.2 wifi image.
3G Support on Android 3.2
sdcard is now at /mnt/external1 and is viewable via MTP
Any application that can write to /sdcard can now write to /mnt/external1
usbOTG drives now mount at /mnt/usbOTG and act identically to the sdcard.
Now comes with the Katana 2.0 stock GPU kernel.
/MicroSD and /usbOTG synlinks to their respective locations in /mnt
Automatically modprobe all kernel modules, apart from the wireless module.
New wallpaper & charging icons
And this gives me the impression that you are maybe using a 3G Verizon Version of the ROM. I would suggest that if this is the case, you should change your ROM to a WI-FI only ROM. You obtained the Update when Verizon pushed out their latest update for the 3.1 ROMs.
Please Correct me if I am wrong on the specs of your device and I will help you as much as I can... I, too, have a Wi-Fi only Xoom tablet and just recently rooted it from 3.2 Stock From The Box to 3.2 Stock Root using this method -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1170760 -- and has been working for me in the last 48 hours
I hope I helped you some, and if I did not, please let me know and I will still try and help you till the problem is fixed (or someone will come in and help )
Thank you very much!!! I didn't think I would be able to get that update cause I have WiFi only Xoom. I thought that OTA update from Verizon was over 3G or 4G network. I'll check out the link you used. I'm not too good at this. I just know how to flash roms, kernals, and themes. I paid someone to root my Xoom. Since my Xoom is rooted can I just flash a WiFi only rom or do I have to follow all the steps on 2nd link u posted?

You are quite welcome ^_^... The stupid OTA updates for Verizon push out over wifi and (have been a vain in my dev rooted phones that do not have verizon accounts attached to them) haha!
You should be able to push a rom following the steps on the forums if you have Clockwork's ROM Manager (FREE in the market place) and TRUE Super User Access (AKA Super User App to test this out). All you need to do is place a few files in certain locations and wala, you have a WI-FI only Rom installed and ready for you to use ( I would note, that you should back up your apps and files and such on the internal memory, JUST in case you want your information that you have on it now again heh...) There are many apps for the bookmarks and such if you need that kind of backing up, but make sure that you do not leave anything you can't live without on the internal memory So All I need to say now is that IF you do have Rom Manager, and IF you do have True Super User on the device, then you should be good to go if you have the WI-FI only ROM that is needed to flash the Xoom Tablet (Please look for ClockWork ROM Manager tutorials to help you with SUCH and make sure you have a stable Rom (aka looking at comments) that you want to try out ^_^!!!)
I wish you the best and the fastest way of fixing your problem, and tell your friend he needs to note a Wi-Fi only tablet ROM is not the same as a 3g tablet ROM hehe!

Custom ROM for Xoom

I've taken a long, winding, occasionally interrupted road to rooting my Xoom 3G and by way of the "ROM Manager" app managed to get EOS 1.0 on there. It's clearly ICS and seems fairly stable, if not very stable. The problem with all of this is I never really felt like my brain was absorbing everything I was doing so I almost feel like I accidently rooted and flashed my Xoom, or watched myself do it. I'd like to flash more and better ROMs; I'd like to play around with different recoveries; I'd like to back my stuff up like a mature adult; I want to root my other devices; I want to do all these great things, but don't feel like I've really learned enough do anything. I don't even know if I could redo what I've already done without messing something up. Please, make me not dumb!
well first off always make a backup just incase.... but since youve got a custom rom installed , installing another rom is easy.
download the rom you want to flash boot into recovery , make a nandroid backup, then install the rom youve downloaded, id recommend eos's jb rom its awesome, pretty straight forward as youve done the hard part already,
other devices i cant comment as their all different for rooting and installing recovery etc, but once youve got recovery installed its same procedure for installing a rom, but always do plenty of reading and be sure what youre doing,

Thanks for the quick reply. More questions. What is nandroid and how do you back it up? Where do I find a complete list of Xoom ROMs (or at least the jb one you mentioned)? I always hear about CM -- have they done anything for Xoom? Do I need an sdcard anymore now that I'm rooted? What are some essential apps?

@wesamothman Thank you for the link. So I'm on the right track with eos. That jb update sounds very appealing, but which one should I grab for my US 3g Xoom?

I can't seem to get the url to work, but even if I find it -- I have a US 3G Xoom -- will it work, or will I have to stick to ICS until I upgrade to 4G?
Links seem OK, but yea, they are EU versions.
On that related thread, please ask if that ROM will work on your US device although I believe it will.

I had the same experience when I did the Big Part modification and installed Omni. No radio. I tried all of the other ROMs for Big Part and only got a signal with EOS 4. With EOS 4 I only had 3G, no LTE. I have been reading about this like crazy, and have seen where people have stated that the custom ROMs made not have the radio built in, but I haven't been able to find out how to add it back or correct my situation. I have seen that other people have stated that they DO have data service after installing Big Part ROMs, so there has to be something we're missing here.
Sorry I don't have a solution. I'm hoping someone with some knowledge on the subject will chime in.

I have continued to look into this, and I just discovered my Xoom is not showing an IMEI number. It is all zeros. You should check and see if you have the same issue. I'm doing research now on how can get the numbers back.
Mine isn't showing the imei number either

Well, I am a little glad that I am not the only one who ran into this issue. I haven't come up with a solution yet, but I did switch back to EOS4 and I have 3G. It's a little slow, but it's better than nothing. I am going to do some more research on this tonight. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

I have continued to seek out the cause of and solution to this problem. Answers from the XDA forums and the internet in general are all over the place as to the cause, but it seems that flashing back to stock is the solution that almost everyone has found success with.
We're in a bind because you can't flash a stock image back onto the BigPart partitioned Xoom. I haven't seen a method to change the Xoom back to it's stock partitions just yet soo... I'm at a loss as to what can be done as of this moment. As soon as someone in the know posts a method to restore the stock partitions I'll flash back to stock and see what happens.
I flashed the eos ROM and will wait for this to get fixed

Yes, it is possible. Follow again the OP instructions but this time flashing back the original TWRP 2.6.3.0 touch recovery to recover the stock partition layout, instead of using TWRP 2.6.3.0 BigPart.

I thought you might be interested. This is apparently what needs to be done to get the stock partitions back on the Xoom. Basically just going through the BigPart procedure again, but replacing the BigPart recovery with the regular one. Some time over the weekend I will probably give it a shot. I have been using my Xoom with EOS and 3G service (not very good 3G service) for a week or so now, but I would really like to get my 4G LTE back. Looks like a lot of Stingray users are having data issues with BigPart roms.

Motorola Xoom time to move on?

Hi,
I own a Motorola Xoom MZ604 since it came out in PR(USA), I have tried every available custom rom. Even the 4.4.2 OmniRom and CM. Got bored of 4.4.2 since cached images were showing on the gallery and couldn't find a way to fix it. Went back to stock 4.1.2 rooted.
I want to know what you think. If Ishould move on to a more 'powerful' tablet or if the Xoom still got it?!?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm wondering the same. I also have the xoom 604. Tried all roms. Using Omni but I like the stock rom better. Nothing really special ever happened, like multi window. I want something newer with hdmi and 1080p or multi window.

Certainly depends what you are using the tablet for. I have a desktop and a laptop that I use for certain tasks but the Xoom is handy for lot's of things too. I bought my used Xoom wifi about a year ago, immediately rooted it and ran various CM 4.2's. I decided to take the leap of re-partitioning and installed the unofficial OmniRom Kit Kat 4.4.2 making sure I explicitly followed ALL the directions, procedures, and tweaks. This has brought the device back to life and I am very pleased that it works so well. I haven't had the problems you reported and everything is working very smoothly.
