I am trying to install multiple ROMs on my inspire and see which one is better so far I have installed CM7 and CoreDriod 6.7; I felt CM7 is good and faster however when I stalled CoreDriod 6.7, I am noticing very slow response and my inspire is responding very slowly if I do anything, just wondering if others also noticed samething, ...would appreciate your feedback.

CoreDroid and CM7 are apples and oranges, however you shouldn't be having any slowdown issues in CoreDroid. The times I've used it, it has been just as responsive as any other ROM. Sounds like you may have a bad flash - be sure to do a full wipe before installing any ROM (in CWR it is the "wipe data/factory reset" option). Personally I also like to manually format the /system partition since the wipe data option doesn't do this (in CWR the format /system option is under "mounts and storage"). I think during installation many ROMs already format /system anyway though before it starts writing files to this partition.
If you keep having problems with CD after reflashing, just build your post count up to 10 and then you can post in the support thread in the dev section. It is a nice ROM worth checking out.
It is also very important to wipe dalvik-cache by going into (from recovery) advanced- wipe dalvik-cache.

I had to flash and wipe coredroid twice to get ride of leftover cm7
Try leedroid its the most stable for me

Keep in mind that Sense ROMs (coredroid) do a lot of restoring on your first reboot. A lot of your apps are being restored, as well as a lot of your settings. It's usually a little slow at the beginning, but if you give it some time it should stabilize itself. If not, then the other guys are right, it was a bad flash or you didn't wipe correctly.

True, however that is a redundant step. The dalvik cache is automatically wiped when you run "wipe data/factory reset" in CWR (dalvik cache is stored on the /data partition and the /cache partition, both of which get wiped by this command).
After doing a proper wipe and flash to a new Rom I have found it best to do a full restart a few minutes after after the Rom settles down after the first boot-up.

I have just recently begun modding my G2x. I can install ROMs without any problems but I've since been interested in flashing a custom kernel. Information is sort of everywhere and what I do manage to find I am worried about it being out-of-date. Anyway, I flashed cm7.1 (the stable release) and it worked fine until it started fc-ing everything google related (something to do with sync?). I decided to try flashing kernels (wiping caches as instructed) and could never get one to work. I've since flashed the latest cm nightly (201 I think) and tried trinity with it. Still nothing. I've since read that I should let the phone sit for 10-20 minutes but after about 20 minutes it is just a black screen and nothing ever happens. It does get really hot however. Anyway I have tried flashing kernels multiple times and nothing has ever worked, same story every time. Any way somebody could tell me what I'm doing wrong? Tell me what's compatible (as maybe sorta stable) with the ROMs I'm using? HAHA and if it's not asking too much...maybe some links too? Sorry, just very new to this and very eager to learn. I just have a bit of trouble figuring out what's supposed to be compatible and where to find it. THANKS!

Thanks will give it a shot in the morning. Too much of a headache all day. Back in a useable state and I want to keep it that way for a bit haha. Will post results.
I still haven't tried to flash a new kernel... that is coming in a bit. I do have a question though... I'm interested in getting my phone in the cleanest state possible before doing anything further. I basically want my external sd cleaned up (I want to just reformat it) before flashing a rom again. What files/directories are absolutely essential to keep? As I said, I want to just wipe it clean but I'm not sure I can do that.

Tried to just flash 0.4.7 and it did the same thing as before. Waited 20 minutes before taking out the battery then tried to boot it again. Waited 20 more minutes and all it ever did both times was get hot. Same results as before.

I have rooted my phone using the ACE Hack Kit. Once that was completed I wanted to use the cyanogen ROM(recommend from a friend). I fully wiped from phone and then ran the cyanogen zip. Everything is fine until I use my phone for an extended period of time(for instance when I'm trying to set up my phone). For some odd reason my phone will freeze and I will be forced to take my battery out. From what I've read/understand I have done everything properly. Is there anything that I possibly missed or have not done that will cause these random freezes?

You or anyone wouldn't happen to know off hand if the kernel is UVed or OCed? This sounds like a UV or OC problem. Its an easy thing to fix if it is and I find that's is always best to rule out the easy stuff first! Some phones don't like to be UVed or OCed at all and freezes like this sometimes are caused by exactly that, UV or OC.
edit: and oh yeah, WELCOME! If you really like CM ROMs, give absolution a try (at the very least, if you or someone doesn't know if the kernel is UVed or OCed, you're be using a ROM I'm familiar with and if the problem persists on this ROM, diagnosing the a UV or OC problem should be fairly simple and I'll know how to get that fixed quickly for you since I haven't used the straight CM ROM in quite some time!) Actually come to think of it, did you check the md5 number? you could have downloaded a bad link causing a bad flash. It's rare most of the time but I have seen it happen..
If you havent downloaded any apps and dont mind reflashing the ROM just down load the full wipe place in ROOT (No Folder) of SD Card go into recovery.

1. Choose zip from SD Card (Full Wipe 1.5) and Install
2. Choose zip from SD Card (Cyanogen ROM) and install
3. Reboot system and enjoy.
I dont like to do the wipe cache, wipe dalvik whatever method, the zip 1.5 does a full wipe all on its own. Its an EXT4 Wipe so I use it for all EXT4 ROMS that I like to try out.
!!!WARNING: When you flash the full wipe do not exit recovery without installing your ROM. So make sure that when you enter into recovery thru Rom Manager to reflash make sure that you have both (Full Wipe Zip) and (Your ROM Zip) on your SD Card before installing.
I tried cyanogen and completed hated it. Absolution is the Bomb!!! But to each their own flavor.

Not a problem man! Be aware though with the 1.5 wipe that it DOES format your system and data to EXT4, and if I'm not mistaken if you make a back-up on EXT 4 and then format back to EXT 3, it will not work and the same applies for vice versa. If you do end up trying Absolution just drop on by the Q & A if the freezing problem persists, I or one of the devs will try to give you hand the best we can..feel free to PM if you go with Absolution

No, if you use the full wipe it pretty much just does the wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache in one flashable zip. I typically use the 1.5 then wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. It is completely overkill and really not necessary but I do it just the same. No, EXT4 should no cause a problem. I'm pretty sure that almost all the ROMs are now EXT4 supported. I believe it would say it if it wasn't at this point. I know the major ROMS (ARHD, CD, Bindroid, MIUI) are all compatible with EXT4. The only issues you will find with EXT4 is the issue I mentioned in my first post and if you want to use gene's tool to unroot.
Welcome to xda and yes I had the same problem I was setting up setcpu and I sneezed and I accidentally pushed it all the way over to 1.9 and my phone didn't like it it just froze...I was worried :/ so I turned my phone back on and went into setting and forced setcpu to close (mind you it took a few restarts lol) but yes I had let it reset itself and now it's working again I just need to remind myself to do a nandroid once a day xD hehe

No problem we are here to help each other. Usually if I want to get back to EXT3 I just flash the rooted ATT gingerbread ROM (PD98 zip) in hboot.

I believe there is a 1.3 wipe that formats to ext 3 again, just in case the OP wanted to format to ext3 before flashing a new ROM as opposed to flashing a new rom and then having to wipe and then flash again.

I would like to think of myself as capable of knowing how to flash ROM's but with any of the sense ROM's NFX Speedy Kingdom, Team-Nocturnals Shooter & even occasionally with Supreme Sense I get random reboots often, SS being the lesser. Its been suggested maybe I'm clocking the custom kernels wrong but it happens for me even with stock kernels. I clear dalvik cache, wipe cache partition, format cache, format data, format system, format sd-ext, wipe data/factory reset 3 times a piece, then I flash a ROM. Anybody have any suggestions as to why maybe this is happening?
Maybe a rouge app. Is there an app you always download after flashing?

Had an issue like that on a phone I take care of. No matter how much I cleared the data it would occasionally random reboot. What ended up resolving the issue was to RUU back to Stock 2.2 . Backed up and reformatted the Micro SD Card, with SD Card Formatter. Then rerooted with Shift RR, haven't had the issue since . Seems a bit extreme. But I think it was because of all the Rom Flashing, something might have gotten corrupted data wise.

Yeah I just tried the RUU back to 2.2 Stock like 2 days ago to attempt to clean it all out but its still doing it. I'll try the idea you had in its entirety and let you know the results.

Pretty much same results. I even switched between EXT3 and EXT4.
Not sure why it would be doing it at this point. You could try a Non-Sense Rom see if the issue goes away.
Looking to sell my 7.7 to a mate. It's currently running CM9. Not bothered with CM10 for now as, for my usage, everything works perfectly in 9.
I'd like to leave CM9 on there for my mate (his preference), but I'm unsure what (preferably simplest) process I need to follow to reset it to something approximating factory settings, but with a fresh CM9 installed on it. Suggestions? I'm not the savviest when it comes to custom roms & android, but I've always been fine following step by step guides etc.
This question may have a trivially easy answer like "go to settings-reset" or something, but the reason I ask is related to whether there'll be any issues related to the kernel bug, and whether restoring it in that manner will just restore cm9 or some stock Samsung build I've forgotten about. Not been paying much attention since getting cm9 on it, been completely satisfied.
Reboot into cwm then
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
Go to advanced>wipe dalvik cache
The tab will be factory reset in CM however anything on your internal sdcard will remain.
To clear internal sdcard you can wipe sdcard in mounts and storage>format sdcard

Had a bit of trouble trying to do this last night, which resulted in a few hours lost sleep. I went formatting everything in CWM and realized after the fact, I also formatted the internal SD card. Luckily ADB worked in transferring the zip (learn something new every day).
Anyway, after all said and done, all my apps were still on the phone. This is after formatting and new ROM...
How can I truly start from scratch to make sure this new ROM is 100% fresh and free of any unnecessary apps from previous ROMs?
Also, what would be the best current radio and link to said radio?

EDIT: I had just realized the issue with Factory Reset/Wipe Data. This one I had forgot to mention as I could never use it as all options said no and the menu was not scrollable. Just decided to try and use the volume buttons and sure enough there was more to scoll to.
That said, would the following be a proper procedure to follow;

Wipe Cache
Format: System, Data, Cache, Boot
Wipe: Dalvik then Fix Permissions
Install order: Rom first, Gapps second, Kernel last

The thing with android is, even if there are some files left over from the previous ROM, they'll get overwritten with the ones from my new ROM, taking them away regardless. The reason you wipe everything to make sure there aren't any files that won't get overwritten. So basically, wipe everything and flash, and you'll have a fresh new ROM also you don't need to fix permissions after you wipe everything because they'll be no permissions to fix! Lol

I don't know it offhand but its probably somewhere on the development forums. I just noticed I said "my new rom" in my original post, I meant "the new rom" just in case you were a little confused (probably not but that would've annoyed me if I didn't address it)

Newest radio I can find is from last year. Maybe that the newest. I know for certain signal and data is a million times better. However, I still have no 4g
And Im having an issue I ned to report about the ROM but XDA wont let me post... :crying:
