3g toggle? - Samsung Mesmerize

Looking for an easy way to turn 3g connection on and off. At work, the 3g signal is so weak that it keeps bouncing between 3g and 1x. Whenever it does establish 3g connection, it is usually slower than 1x because of signal strength.
I tried apndroid, but it did not seem to work right. Any other advice?

I use Dazzle. I have a bar set up on one of my screens so that I can toggle mobile data, cell radio, tethering, WIFI, ringer volume, GPS, and screen brightness. There are a couple of other options you can add that I don't use, too.

For me the power control widget that comes by default works fine. You might also be interested in the app Roam Control from the market, if it works for you you could use it to force roam at work. I use it at home sometimes because my house is closer to the Verizon tower than the uscc tower, and sometimes when my 3g signal gets weak I can roam onto Verizon and get faster speeds on 1x roaming.

I tried out roam control. I'm not sure what to think. Previously at my home, we typically get weak 3g signal sometimes dropping to 1x. When I choose automatic mode, I only get 1x. When I choose home or roam, either way I get a consistent 3g signal. I'll have to check at work tomorrow to see how it fares there.
Is there a way to be certain whether I'm roaming or not? When I pull down notifications it says "cellular south" regardless of choosing roam or home. But the results I'm seeing on speed tests are not what I'm used to seeing. (more consistent, constant speeds at both 3g and 1x with better signal strength). I know I'm not charged from roaming, but I figure I'd get in trouble if I'm always roaming.

Network fixed???

My phone has rebooted 4 times since 5:30 eastern. And weather widget is bouncing around town to town. 3g has dropped to 1x once and I haven't left couch.
Signed dissatisfied Verizon customer
My 4G dropped out for the first time today (following the fix late last night Eastern time) at about 8:55 pm EDT. I'm in Maryland.
I'm seeing a situation with LTE where the handset can TX, but it gets no RX from the other end. If I force it back to EvDO (over eHRPD, using "CDMA Auto (PRL) in the Network app), I get a solid connection, no dropouts and fairly typical EvDO speeds.
After a good morning / afternoon on LTE, it seems the network (or the handset?!) is fouling up again. Anyone else?

I'm over in Northern VA. This morning i switched and then left it on CDMA + LTE/EvDO auto, and i even re-enabled eHRPD (for the first time in weeks) and got solid service all the way on my commute to work (Springfield to Dulles) streamed internet radio the entire time never dropped out once. After reading on here about people getting 4G back i figured i'd give it a spin. Then later on in the afternoon i started to see the dreaded "Full bars but no data signal" CONSTANTLY and its still going on, then i flip over to CDMA (auto PRL) and switch to Rev. A which ive been using for the most part of the last month or so and i get a FLAWLESS connection. It locks on to 3G and does NOT disappear EVER!
I really hope they get all this straightened out soon. I had decent hopes for the new radio, and i'm getting little result out of it. Until then, i'm perfectly content staying on CDMA (auto PRL), because it works all of the time.
Yes 4g is very sporadic to say the least. I may have a signal with 3 bars, but I'm still unable to use data. This happens like forty percent of the time. 3g s still stable, and I have tried both radios, with the same results.
I am not in a 4g area (yet, this summer though) but my 3G did come back late last night however, its been very touch and go today. Yesterday I thought it was because I had flashed some different kernels and I am a baby at this but then when I read about the outage I realized it actually wast me! I am guessing from the back and forth from 1X to 3G they are still working on it though. Hope its fixed soon. My wifi stinks at home!

somewhat off topic but not deserving of its own thread: ever since i bought this phone the day it came out it seems like 2 bars of lte means you might have a signal, ive rarely seen it with 1 bar on lte, and to get reliable data you need 3 or 4. fairly solid today though, in and around chicago.

I covered a lot of ground today: LA, Chicago, and Connecticut. All with solid 4g while I was in those places.
I'm in the Chicago suburbs and my 4G has been sketchy all day. I've got 4 bars but the speeds aren't up to par.
My 4G has been sporadic. Similar symptoms as others' posted here. 3 bars and no data connection.
M.
I'm in Baltimore as well and have had rock solid 4G all day.
I'm in Indianapolis, and while we don't quite have 4G I did notice something is up with 3G.
Under the menu>settings>about phone>network it shows: CDMA + EVDO Rev A.
Even though eHRPD is enabled.
So I'm still getting neutered 3G (no data+voice simul).
They must still be up to something.
Yeah I switched to eHRPD earlier in day yesterday and was working fine til the evening. I am not in 4g area but fairly close to one, but haven't seen 4g speeds yet. But back on Rev A now.
I just got a "network connection reset by peer" error so must be having some connectivity issues.

Middle Tennessee here,
While at work, I have had in the past a very stable 4G connection. And when I commute back to my home I am outside the range of the nearest 4G market but I've always bounced to the 3G network under the defaulted eHRPD settings with some latency of course. I have had my device since launch and I am running jcase's original custom ruu for root/s-off which has been running just fine.
Since the outage while at my home I am constantly transitioning between 3G and 1X with the occasional dreaded "all bars" and no network connection but if I reboot my device I have a 3G service restored...
Same goes for the transition back from 3G to 4G....commuting back to work, I know I should be acquiring the 4G network while coming to work and the best I get is the 3G network again all while my device is set for the eHRPD modem setting. Now if I reboot my device while in the known 4G market area I get my 4G back....
Still looks borked to me even if the Big Red Boys say that their service is back up....
My phone was switching betwen 4G and 1X and never went to 3G at all. I cannled Verizon and they said that the handoff from 4G to 3G was turned off due to the outage. Apparently the outage had something to do with switching between networks.
He had me do a battery pull which did bring 3G back (restart and airplane mode hadn't helped me). He did say I might get stuck again probably in 1X and to try airplane mode then.
I guess they are still working out issues.
I live in the middle of TN and I was pleased to see my 4G come back today. Just in time, too. I was able to stream the draft almost flawlessly while at work.

Constant network issues

I am on my 3rd device in 3 days. First one was rooted, second one was not. This current one is also not rooted as well.
Unless I am very unlucky, I am going to assume there is a definite issue with the network configuration on this device. Status says I have 3 bars of 4G coverage, however I cannot connect to the internet at all.
Network Signal Info says I am on UMTS with a -93DBM, data is connected. However nothing will load. If I put the phone into airplane mode and then turn airplane mode off the networking comes back online. Speeds are slow though, barely able to perform basic mobile web browsing and watching youtube and such isnt possible. Too slow an too long to buffer.
This doesn't only happen at my house, it happens in other areas as well but it does happen constantly at home. I a not a heavy data user on my account, 1-2GB monthly, so Tmo says they arent throttling me. They have replaced the SIM every time with the devices as well.
Suggestions? If I cannot figure this out soon I am going to cancel my service as I cannot pay for a service and phone that just doesnt work. Tmo seems stumped. They just keep replacing phones since I am within my 14 day return/exchange period.
However, 3 devices all having the same issues sure seems to either prove the phone has an issue, or m general area of Tmo service.
I live in downtown Tempe, AZ.
Your wifi works?
I have the same issue in my house... I have a weak signal and 4g drops down to 2g which is terrible.... 4g downloads are 3Mbps, but uploads are under 100kps
I changed the network mode to wcdma only which helps significantly. 4g drops, but quickly returns...
Give it a try...
I'm having the same issue here in Orlando. I've had 2 phones now (first one was just a bad unit) and both have had horrible network connectivity and reception. I take my SIM card out and put it in my 2 year old MT3G and it gets perfect reception and fast data transfers while the G2x is choking on network transfers.
Go complain here in LG forum. This is software issue.

have full bars but cant download anything. just sits at waiting for data connection.
We really need a baseband modem that works better. My bars goes to zero then to edge and then to 3g constantly. Any time it switches between the connections then the the bars goes to zero and it says there is no conection. Also noticed that 3g connection fluctuates very bad while doing a speed test.

T-mobile only has 3g connection avaliable where I live, of course it says 4g on the phone but in reality it is only 3g.

I wonder if there is an issue with our network in Arizona?? I live in Chandler, and work in Scottsdale. my data times out ALLL THE TIME. Both here at home, and at work. Same with my text messaging. Literally, I do exactly what you do with the "airplane" mode. That's the only way to get my data and text working again (besides restarting).
Here are the issues I posted in the LG Forum:
http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards/carriers/t-mobile/topics/few-issues-with-g2x#26861
(first issue posted is what you are talking about)
I dont think this is a regional issue. Downtown Minneapolis here, and I cant get it to stay on wifi or Edge/4g for more than a few minutes at a time. G1 has no trouble and shows strong 3g while my sisters mt4g shows full 4g. 4g/E symbol just flickers on my g2x leaving me with no connection. I can connect to wifi fine, but even with wifi sleep set to never it still disconnects every few minutes, and has to be toggled on/off to reconnect. Until toggling it just sits flickering 4g/E with no data connection.
I've never seen my Evo drop a E/4g/wifi connection and struggle to reconnect once in the year I've had it. My g2x does it almost every time I pick it up.
Did you try going into Mobile Networks in Settings and changing the mode to WCDA Preferred or something? That'll stop the flip flopping. That's what I have it on and that's what the phone came with out of the box. Also try Auto in that menu.

Slowest speed data connection?

I'm writing because, on my first road trip with the Thunderbolt, there were a lot of places I expected to have some kind of internet service and couldn't get anything. On AT&T I could always fall back on GPRS if I had any signal, yet there's a lot of places I'll have 5 bars, but no 4G, 3G, or 1X icon up top, and be totally unable to get any data at all.
Does the Thunderbolt lack some capability other Verizon phones have? Is CDMA itself unable to be used for data transport? Is EVDO the "slowest" data speed Verizon offers? What options are there for being in the boonies wanting the most minimal service possible?
Thanks,
rektide
I've used data on 1x before so I know its possible. You might want to make sure you have data roaming turned on. You might have been on sprint's network.
I've been suprised a couple of times by lack of 3g/4g signal. It has been indoors both times, but really expected to have it. One time I was at the mall and only had 1x, turned on my time warner hotspot that runs on sprint's network and got 2 bars of 4g wimax which is supposed to have better building penetration.
Go figure.

Sprint LTE (Cleveland, Ohio)

We are inching forward. This looks reassuring!
The SENSORLY apk is always on when I leave the house, mapping my route.
Oh how that purple looks SO beautiful!!!
I myself couldn't believe that Sprint LTE was starting in Cleveland over the past few days but I drove over by 480 in north Parma and LTE is true. Mapped out a few miles and picked up speeds of 33 Mbps on it. Woot! Woot! Anyone else from Cleveland wanting to pitch in I highly recommend 2 apps. Sensorly with passive contribution. Also LTE Discovery, it basically alerts you if it discovers LTE suddenly and it keeps toggling airplane mode for you. If you notice you're near an LTE approved area on Sensorly it really helps to manually turn on and off Airplane mode. LTE will then connect instantly. By default LTE checks every 30 minutes.

I Sensorly mapped yesterday from Beachwood all the way to Lorain road in North Ridgeville.. forced my HTC one to LTE only, so once it connected it would not let go when it encountered a strong 3G singal.. 4G connected just after Ridge Road, and I was able to get all the way to the Grayton Road overpass coming off of the Brooklyn - Brookpark tower, and then picked up the Tower in Olmsted Falls (Fitch and Cook) just after Sterns and it held the signal all the way until i got off the Highway in North Ridgeville.. Dropped signal as I was turning onto Lorain..
Did the reverse morning, once again forcing LTE only..
So now on Sensorly, we should see the absolute extents (on 480) of the reach of the 2 active 4g towers. You need to zoom in on Sensorly to see the newest mappings... I don't know why..
Another couple of towers and well have 4g service all the way from the Lorain county line on 480 to i77.. almost my entire ride to work!

How did you force LTE Only? I just mapped out over past few hours the streets by Brookpark and Tiedeman. Everytime it would go into 3G it was fastest to just turn on and off airplane mode to reconnect to LTE. I have LTE Discovery app but it's designed to toggle airplane mode every minute rather than as soon as 4G signal is lost. I mapped out 1427 4G points and 4617 2G & 3G points. lol. As for zooming in to see results I notice that sensorly has to render over time the new coverage spots for different zoom levels. Within 24 hours you should see it zoomed out nicely. Fastest from today

open your dialer and press *#*#4636#*#* You will get a Phone Info screen.. scroll down and you can choose lots of different radio settings.. I used LTE only yesterday.. I'm trying LTE,CDMA today to see if I have as good results. I don't believe you will receive calls or texts in LTE only mode, but you will not let go of the 4g signal once you get it, until it's absolutely gone. I'm assuming LTE,CDMA will be better at holding the 4g signal then full auto mode.
After you change the radio mode, push back couple of times and then do it again to make sure your settings stuck.. A couple of times it has not taken the settings, and reverted to WCDMA mode (WTF is that even?)
I believe it will still have the same polling time for finding a 4g signal, so you may need to airplane mode on and off to get a quick lock if you are in an area which you know there is 4g.. but it will stick until there is no more 4g signal.
If only it comes and soon. Might be able to convince my parents to drop Big Red....
Okay I found it now. On Sprint Galaxy S4 the Dialer Code is ##DATA# or ##3282#. You'll need your MSL Code to change any setting though. After that it's under Others -> HDR/1X Selection -> LTE Only Mode. Of course make sure LTE is on from the previous screen. Interestingly I forgot that I turned mine off 2 months ago to save on battery because I knew there wasn't LTE in Cleveland yet and it still connected with the airplane toggle off and on. Seems like it'll connect faster now.
Sprint rep in Macedonia told me September. I'll believe it when I see it but it's cool to see little areas slowly lighting up on Sensorly.
Anyone know if it's on out west? Ex. Brook Park, Westlake, etc. Thx!

Keep checking http://sensorly.com/map/4G/US/USA/Sprint/lte_310sprint as of last night there's like 8 different areas which you have to zoom in and look for as it takes them a few hours to update the zoomed out versions. There is something over by Sheffield. I may go drive around today to help map out the major roads at any pop up spots. So can anyone confirm putting the phone in LTE - only mode help pick up LTE Signals instantly rather than constantly toggling airplane mode?

S6 with network extender

Hey guys
SO I have a weird issue.
In my office, with my wifi connected, I get decent 3g, but if I leave the phone on the desk, I see the phone bouncing back n forth from 1x to 3g. doesnt stay locked in.
When on 3g, I get about -102db, which is sufficient for voice and sms. When on 1x, I get about -98db. Not sure what is causing the constant bouncing....but needless to say, it drains the battery.
EVen while on wifi, i see the radio still bounces from 1x to 3g and back. If I were to get a network extender, do you know if the phone will still look for a a 1x or 3g tower?
I tried the network extender somewhere else, but they had decent 3g coverage anyway. SO I dunno if it still looked for it.
Thanks in advance!
I have the same problems but with LTE
My LTE signal is low so it kills the battery standby. Is there a way to force 3g? All the old apps dont work with lollipop.
