CM7 Camera - Thunderbolt General

Hmm.. I hate it when the front facing camera flips the picture (right becomes left and left becomes right). The sense camera didn't do that and I was wondering if a camera was available on CM7 that doesn't flip. Thanks!

While I agree with you, as far as I remember all of the sense cameras (2.0, 2.1, and my current 3.0) also flips the image.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt

Hmm.. I couldve sworn it didn't! Maybe I'm imagining things...

I believe its intentional. Just like a webcam, it flips it to give a mirror-like effect. (So when you scratch your left ear it shows on the left side etc...)

UPDATED!: Pictures of Captivate Mainboard

So.. after some tinkering (and massaging) I got the back cover off of my Captivate and was able to snap some pics of the innards for your viewing pleasure.
It's very similar to the standard Galaxy S, but some of the chips are laid out a bit differently, also, I apologize for the substandard picture quality, the only thing I have available to take pictures is a Blackberry Storm2 with an led flash.
Update: I've taken some better pictures now, and I've got them uploaded:
Teardown Photos
Enjoy!
Update:
Step by Step Teardown
Very cool
That is cool. Wonder how long it will be until we see a complete tear down of the phone
That is (almost) as far as you can go. Theres one more PCB thats actually attached to the screen. Other than that, that main board and the sim/sd card board that sits on top of it are all thats there.
Edit: Here are some better pictures I was able to take this morning, unfortunately EVERY single picture I tried to take of the small Broadcom chip turned out like crap, or you could not see the writing on the chip. I could not read it myself, as the writing on the chip is extremely tiny, and I don't have a magnifying glass.
Teardown Photos
Any way you could do a photo-by-photo instruction for the tear-down? Maybe put some o' dem fancy photo-ma-shop arrows in there?
I suppose I could do that
I just need a few more photos of the "in between" steps to give a better idea of what needs to be disconnected and how to get the back cover off.
And then there's the whole write up thing. -- Question about that, should I do a new "tear down" thread, I'll get a bit more in depth this time as well, I'll get all the chip numbers down (I found a magnifying glass!) so we can better cross reference what hardware we have in comparison to the Galaxy S i9000.
Will probably be a day or two until I can get it up, maybe longer depending on the write up.
Yeah, I'm guessing a tear-down thread would be in order unless there's some way of changing your thread title. Appreciate it.
I spilled a bit of an "adult beverage" on my Captivate last nite. Dang cat... Nothing went wrong w/the phone... save for the power button & the volume rocker... They were a bit... sticky.
I was able to get them cleaned up a bit using a razor blade & some alcohol wipes, but I'd love to be able to fully clean everything by disassembling the phone. I removed the 4 screws in the back beneath the battery cover, but got nowhere...
Can someone confirm if the fm radio chip is there?

There are actually 6 screws. Two are hidden underneath the sliding latch for the battery door.

Thats one of the purposes of tearing the phone down, I'm hoping to answer that question, or at least give enough people enough information to find out.

pretty cool u think now that we can tear it down, we can add the front camera too it?
I don't know, it would definitely take someone much more skilled than I to fit the Front camera in.
The layout on the top is a tiny bit different, and it would require some changes to that as well as making space above the screen on the opposite side for the camera.
So, definitely NOT an easy job, if it is even possible.
if you look at that video of the teardown of a galaxy S i9000, it looks like the FFC is part of the rear facing camera module
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt9XNnjAcBc&feature=player_embedded
at 2:59 in the video the camera is taken out, and at 3:07 she turns it over and you can see the front facing camera - does your rear facing camera look different (except for the obvious, missing that small black square with the FFC)?
if it's not different, except for the missing ft camera, i suspect these are all modular components so sammy could assemble them, as needed, to a customer's specs - which means, if someone can source that correct module w/ffc, and rip the driver and software for it from the i9000, that it'd be possible
The camera is identical, minutes the front facing piece, if course. The connection to the main board is the same as well.

if you pull it apart again, it'd be nice if you had a magnifier or a camera capable of macro shots so we can definitively identify that gps chipset
The macro on my camera is good, but not that good =)
My magnifying glass, however, shows me that the chip is a BCM4751.

My research shows that this chip does not do anything with FM radio so that is quite disappointing. Dammit AT&T! Always got gotta crap up a great phone. So now we don't get FM radio and we don't get the FFC.
if its the same camera module minus the FFC, im sure we will find some junk galaxys on ebay for parts soon enough, sum1 will develop a new front for us hopefully, pop in the new camera, get the ROM for it to work, and hope it can work. i am by no way an engineer or anything technically, so im not saying its plausable, just saying it could work if some1 knew how to do it.

This chip is the broadcom gps. He replied to the larryccf question.
So, I hope fm radio is here.
Broadcom BCM4751 is a single-chip GPS receiver used for tracking and navigation, primarily in mobile devices.

tks - it may be sammy did use a different gps chipset in the captivate
and btw, macro will magnify - take a high res shot, then open on your pc, depending on how hi res, i've had them open the picture in 25 X 22" or so sizes
and you can see mosquito footprints - had an Omega, a high end one that had a serial number on the backside way too small to read even with a 6X magnifier - had to have been laser etched
used a macro shot to read it - no joke
try it some time

Front facing camera alignment

Guys, could you check something on your sensation: whether the front facing camera pin hole is perfectly in the middle of the lens circle? On my sensation, it sits slightly above the center of the circle. Don't know whether it's designed like that or just a fluke .
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Slightly above on mine. Non-issue. Everybody got their panties in a bunch over it in MT4G forums back in the day too.
Damnit it looks like HTCstill has ****ingQC problems. This and now the screen too, **** my luck
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Well, good to know that their's other also like this. I mean its no biggie, and who knows, maybe it was designed to be like this. Folks, please let us know how your front camera is.
Wow.. Just wow.
Mine is off center high and to the left but the camera view doesn't seem affected by it.
they put mine on the back
its the same on all the phones, looks slightly higher from the normal viewing angle. just know it doesnt have an effect on your cameras ability to capture images/video so there is no cause for concern. just more ocd phone owners, but i guess we all tick like that
Yeah..same as mine. Slightly up side..

HTC Sensation Camera

I have recently used my camera for a picture but I noticed that my screen look like its burning up like pixels are burning. So I took some picture of it. I'm not sure why it show it like this but screen look very bad in camera mode beside this picture was taking at half 7 at night. And while recording I did not see very great quality even my cousin Samsung wave 2 5 megapixel looked better on picture and video. I just want to know if any1 else has felt the same. for some reason i could not upload the picture and i will try again to upload them.
the first 1 is just in the camera mode and flah is not on and the second is flash on but you can still see bad colours. and in video just forget it i can see sort of light on the screen going up and down and it is very disturbing while recording. i have tried to take a picture at day time and the quality looks good still not better than my old htc hd2 because of pixelated.
i had to cut some part which was due to privacy but this is the picture i took at my collage and this was the assisemant i had to write it and i took picture of it rather than writing it down. but you can see the collage picture looks alright but at night it just look messed up. and the settings are same all the way through everything to set with custom level set to middle all of them and picture is set to 8 megapixel.
please feel free to write about your experience you had with your camera and your screen and i have watched youtube and i dont see anything wrong this is i think camera problem. other than phone is 3 weeks old no drops no nothing still in brand new condition.

Do you have a camera mod installed?
What ROM are you using?
If its stock rom and you haven't changed the camera, then take it to the store you bought it from, and demand an exchange because that camera is obviously messed up.
my experience with my sensation, and about all mobile phones, is that in low light conditions the quality is really poor.
Need to say I did not experience the bad quality you're showing. With flash it should have been better if the distance of the photographed object is not to big.
I'm using revolutionary 3.1.1 rom and I did not use any mod or anything its the camera that is showing the quality like this.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I cannot take this back to store because I have bought this phone from gumtree and when I bought it the box was sealed and there was nothing wrong with the seal.
Everything was brand new and I have uploaded a picture of day time the camera look ok but night time it quality goes crap
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I would like to see some sample of ur pictures if any1 can upload them and take some at night and some at day. If in case ur pic quality is different then I'm gonna take this to mobile shop to get it fixed

As I'm a fresh user of this forum I am not sure if I can post any pictures, but I'll give it a try.
I took this first picture in sheer darkness. I could not see the model car on the display. With the flash it shows on the photo. It's not sharp because of that.
The second one I took with a little light so I could just see the modelcar in the phone display. This picture is a little sharper but still not good.
The third I took under a halogen desk light and is clearly sharper.
Hope it helps!
Also took a daytime picture for you. Well...it's a bit cloudy and foggy outside so the pic is not 100% clear, but think you can get the "big picture" about the overall quality.

Hey Dude,
1. As @Speedy72 said, either smartphone or regular phone does not take good photos due to physical optic parts limitations.
BUT
2. Some time ago I had similar problems with pictures also with ARHD roms. ROM is genuine but problems were obvious for me. It also gone bootloops once a day. Now changed to Virtuous Sensation XE 2.1 and both mentioned problems vanished for me.
So, my advice - try different ROM (if U like ARHD then Virtuous XE will be just for you).
Good luck!
Im actually having the same problem with the camera... hopefully thats just the way they all are when it comes to a red or orange color
Try hitting the menu key and messing with the image adjustments to see if you can make it normal again.

In low light, the camera blows. One thing that seems to have worked for me was to disable the "Auto-Enhance" feature. Pictures were much better. I now run ARHD 4.1.5 with Amaze Cam v7 and it takes great pictures, even in low light.
With mod, low light
Without mod, auto-enhance enabled, daylight
Notice the major blotchiness of the daylight picture.
Hope this helps

this is what i mean the camera is ok in day but at night this is what makes me mad.
can you see the right top corner all those little pixel they look disgusting
As far as the really bright pixels, did you try disabling the auto-enhance and take the picture again? Let me know how that works.
In the really dark photos, those pixels are called noise. Even top of the line DSLRs have that (to some degree) in low light. It's a phone camera. It's going to happen. Go check some Apple forums and you'll find out that the 4S has this too. I'm afraid its something you're going to have to live with my friend, or carry around a light

i have took the auto enhance off but still those little pixels are sticking out beside i looked up for camera noise and this is how my screen looks all the time before taking picture.
i hate this noise thing so bad because it only happens at night and this is the only time when i rarely use my camera.

Have you thought about backing up your apps and anything else you need to keep and trying Android Revolution HD 4.1.5 (I think 4.1.6 is out now actually)? It has Sense 3.5, then you can flash the Amaze camera mod v7 (v8 causes problems for some). The newest InsertCoin ROM also has Sense 3.5, same with RCMix. Try them all. It will produce less noise, but like I said before, you'll never lose the noise fully no matter what camera or software you go to.

best camera ever

[Q] camera issues.

does anybody else get fuzzy pictures? i just noticed it happening. espically when i zoom in. and the focus seems to be louder than before. but im not sure if thats just me worrying about it.
When you zoom its digital zoom essentially cropping it to look bigger, and the camera noise its a sound played by the speaker. So if your ringtone volume is louder the sound will be louder.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
even without zooming its seems that it is really fuzzy. and its the sound of the actual camera, not the noise coming from the speaker. i have the volume all the way down and when it is focusing it makes a lot of noise. i think that the focus may be broken.
Oh ok, mineakes no noise, other than the artificial sound, you most likely have bad hardware, take it back to where you got.it and show them the issue to get a replacement if possible.

Pretty sure its normal for the camera to make a faint "click" as it auto focuses. Try pointing the camera at different distances (to subject being photographed), or slide the zoom all the way from one extreme to another. Its pretty faint, so you have to listen closely, and if there is any background noise you may not hear it at all. It also doesn't seem to make the noise all the time. Sometimes it also clicks when you exit the camera app.
At least I hope its normal, as my phone does it! :-O
Agree that if the noise has gotten louder, and the camera is not focusing, the camera hardware may have failed.
It's very faint I should have said.

A lot of my photos come out blurry as well, but thats because my hand shakes and whatnot. While the HOX takes beautiful photos, it is VERY easy to blur them if your hands arent steady enough.
On the other hand, my video keeps freezing up every time I hit the record button. I have to reset the phone to solve the issue. This problem didn't come up until after I rooted my phone. Perhaps theres a correlation there..?
now that you mentioned it i didnt notice it until after i was rooted. i just updated to the newest ruu (which is annoying me with my contacts) and im gunna see if it still happens. thank you for the responses everyone.
This is probably the 10th thread about this subject. Its normal and its coming from the lens itself.
How is unable to record video "normal?"
My HTC One XL pictures also look pretty shabby. Take any picture and zoom in after to see just how fuzzy and blurry they are. With the iPhone 4S they are much better. Not nearly as much blur or fuzz in pictures taken by iPhone 4s.

love the phone, hate the camera

I cannot put this beautiful phone down. My desktop background pops so much that it looks like I printed a picture and glued it to my screen. It is amazingly fast and responsive.. I am a little worried about scratching the ceramic back. Sure, it might be stronger than aluminum, but is it more scratch resistant too?
My only big gripe is with the camera, I have about 11 more days until I can return this to BB, and if the camera software doesn't upgrade and make this as good as my previous Nexus 6P camera, I will sadly have to return it to BB. Why isn't HDR default? Why does the flash always default to "on", even after turning it off?
When will the green model launch? That thing is sexy as hell and might be easier to find in a dark room.. I have never owned a phone other than black or gray before. But that might be my first.
-t
Try the Google Camera port for now and if you still don't like it return it
If I'm counting correctly the 27th will be 14 days since I got this phone from Sprint... which is judgement day for me. Decisions... Decisions..
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
The google camera port basically makes the camera a non-issue for me. I still use stock for the monochrome photos though but seriously, just use your flash for low light photos and problem solved
