[Patch] 1% battery step for Froyo - Defy Android Development

Hey guys, I've managed to achieve 1% battery steps on Froyo!
It has been tested in quite some Froyo roms by now, and it seems to work great! No battery drains or anything like that.
In order to obtain one percent battery steps, your rom/theme must give support to it. I've modified EphuNord (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046027) Gingerbread theme to add support to it.
So, the only thing you need to do is to apply the battery_step.zip attached. It replaces your /system/lib/libandroid_servers.so. This library was extracted from Milestone FroyoMOD rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=815595).
ATTENTION:
I recommend you installing 2nd-init (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pedronveloso.sndinitdefy) and making a nandroid backup before applying this patch. If anything goes wrong (i.e. the library is not compatible with your rom), you'll be stuck in Motorola logo, so starting custom recovery on 2nd-init and restoring the nandroid backup is the easiest way to get your phone back!
Thanks 89luca89 for the library.
Thanks Ephumuris for the rom and original theme.

thnnx

Thanks! Working on S.Froyo II with custom BlueGingerbread framework.

Thanks! Also working on Froyo - Barebones v1.5.5

What modification needs for theme to use this mod?
Does it affect battery life?

here dosen`t work... CM7 RC0

You don't need this thing for CM7 ... this one is for Froyo ROMs.
CM7 already has it included.

@slph You must modify framework-res.apk in order to include icons for every battery step. You have also to change the xml that describes battery behavior.

Maybe you can try using CM7 system/lib/libandroid_servers.so. However, I cannot ensure it will work.

thx but i didn't work.
i know what i have to change in the libandroid_servers.so to but i don't know how.
no skills in de/recompiling the .so file

I have EphuNord rom, applied the theme you made, but didn't work. Since it works for others i guess i did something wrong. Now i'm stuck in a bootloop
But look on the bright side, now i have something to do tonight

Not working.. Trie it on China unicom 2.10

please... post a model with battery from androidian theme!
or explain me what font and size used in... ^^

can i use this on a stock froyo 2.2.1? i have 3.4.3_11-Stock.UKTmobile_BLUR...

@shibabz03
Applying the patch might work, but make a nandroid backup before flashing it in case something goes wrong.
The theme, however, must be made for your ROM. The one in the first post just works with EphuNord and others nordic based ROMs.
@Jean-DrEaD
I've attached the images used for battery.

Can I just extract this *.so and replace the one in the official (but rooted) froyo?

[ROM][32B]Official Android 1.6 Rom [new htc release 02/10/09]

It's only the original 1.6 rom for google ion provided by HTC, i've only create a flashable zip and i've add root
There is the official kernel, no tethering/compcache/app2sd/multitouch/busybox ecc ecc
Download: http://www.androidiani.com/~web14_repository/nk02/ion1.6-new-signed.zip (new 02/10/09 htc release)
If you want tethering and some other stuff, please install this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
To install please WIPE+FLASH (a reboot after first setup probably is required to not have problems with widget - if you don't use english language)
sorry for my english
32a or 32b ?
thnx for this rom! works perfectly
Thanks nk02!!
How hard would it be to get a wifi-tether kernel involved?
I basicly just want stock donut W/ root and tether. no other fancy stuff to slow down the phone.
32A Users:
Apply this AFTER flashing the 32B ROM upped by nk02.:
http://briancrook.ca/magic/ion1.6_32a-port-signed.zip
This switches the kernel to 32A
EDIT:
This uses Cyanogen's 4.1.11.1 kernel with TigerTaels 32A patch.

Sorry, for clarification this is Cyanogen's 4.1.11.1 kernel. I may get around to building a 32A stock kernel, but we'll see.
purchased apps still won't download
so whats the market fix
do i have to re-install and wipe again cause just got it all set up
I was using
fastboot update <imagepackage>.zip [-w]
and updated to 1.6.
How am I supposed to use this zip file. I get an error when it is done like that
Thank you for this rom. Would it be possible for you to create one that is pure stock without root and superuser?
Or, if is not worth your effort, can someone tell me how to unroot and get rid of the the superuser permissions?
Thanks in advance.

But i can't install the untouched image from that link because i have a stock spl, not engeneering one. Basically what i need is a stock 1.6 before the ota update is released. The rom in this thread is great, installs just like any other rom without issue, but it has root which I have no need for.
i had to wipe/re flash to get my market to work. Everything is functional now! thanks guys!
Is it possible to flash the new radio also?
The ROM worked great for me on my 32B Vodafone Magic, good stuff!
Didn't want to but didn't have much of a choice. Market works great now! (wouldn't find apps that existed)
Thanks for releasing Donut in root form!!

i had the same issue but it went away after i restarted. I also turned wifi and GPS on/off a few times and it seemed to fix it? Maybe forcing the widget to register or somthing

Which ROM ?? > New Noob Milestone User's Question ;)

Hi Mates!
Tomorrow i'm going to recieve the post package with my brand new Moto Milestone I can't wait...
I have looked through threads abouts available ROM versions and I dont know which one should I flash to my new device... I want to have everything working, and good battery lifetime (bla bla bla , You say I should stay at stock ROM, but I wand something more)
It would be nice if the rom has overclock. It should be smooth and beautiful.
I request suggestions Thanks alot
Hi,
I would avoid official one, go for Got's 2.38 or try EclairMOD by 89luca89
Maybe Got's one if you begin with android.
They are 2.1 android, much more stable than the Motorola's one.
After some time, you can make a nandroid backup of all your system, and then test Dexter_nlb "rom" like Sense UI MOD or MotoBlur or MotoFrenzy, they are Android 2.2 based Mod. That's for the one i tested, but they are maybe other mods.
Thank You;-) so at last I get my Miledtone, which is my 3rd andro phone. Now I'll try the stock eclair but I'm going to do some changes firstly I'll learn typing on phisical keyboard
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
With Got's image all the phone functions are working well?
The installation of this SW is like installation of the original one using RSDLite?
Many thanks in advance.

You can install with OpenRecovery is more easy.

Deodexed files for GB 3.4.2 Froyo

Deodexed framework/app files for the 3.4.2 GB Froyo release.
Flash the package via clockworkmod recovery (Install zip from sdcard option)
If you have removed apps this will restore them back to stock, so you will need to go in an remove again.
Enjoy!
Download Here!
Props to Sorensiim for hosting!
Sweet!
I am currently running the default T-Mobile UK firmware, I've been more nervous about flashing the Defy than the Magic due to root issues in the new Firmware.
Look forward to giving this a try.
I have searched the forum but couldn't find an answer..
What is the benefit of having deodexed files?
Thanks
I believe it allow's you to custom theme it.
This is the answer I found on the droid x forums.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/18275-what-deodexed.html
I will stick to the defaults, as I am trying to determine why the UK version is so much more smoother. But keep up the good work
What jygar says, I also believe it helps with efficiency, however the theory would suggest it would have the adverse effect.
If you look for my frozen eclair thread you will see a link to a good explanation of what deodexing is/does
How I understand it, the only reason for de-odexing a build is to allow for easier modification, i.e. theming. Apart from that, there are no stability/efficiency/performance gains to be had.
As I do not plan to make any such modifications, I'll leave my 'Optimized DEX (ODEX)' files as-is, and not de-Optimize them
Working 100%!
Thanks for your work Higgsy!

dang i just flashed the regenerated 1.1 now the ef02 rom by midnight this is like christmas morning and you get everything you wish for and more
Bonsai 5 B13 wont go into deep sleep on my phone. That's the only EF02 Rom I have tried. Anyone seeing that with this rom?
Edit: answering my own question here, just tried this and no deep sleep. Even killed every process on the phone and stopped background data.
I guess gingerbread doesn't like my hardware

Well I'd like to try it out but I can't read anything with this default curly font and flashing "Stock Font.zip" (twice) from Midnight Extras didn't fix it. Going back to stock.

Flashing the stock font should work. Have you tried manually dripping them in the font folder and rebooting. I'll look at it in the morning. Maybe I zipped up the wrong fonts.

Nope I hadn't tried that yet, may give it a go over the weekend but for now reverted to stock. Any idea whether Netflix works with this ROM? What about the overscroll / CRT animations? Really miss those from EE03

The zip was messed up. The hierarchy was wrong. I fixed it. Should work now. As far as the CRT and overscroll goes, I haven't seem them for this build and it was't my mod the last time.
I will definately try this out when I get home! Thanks again for all you do for the epic comunity. One question, and I apologize if it is stupid. I know this says rfs only, but is there any way to convert this to ext4? Your roms have always been of highest quality and exactly what I'm looking for, but the EE03 rom feels really slow and I know it has to do with rfs. I tried the only ef02 ext4 rom I could find and it was fast, but I had too many problems with GPS and other things. Thanks again, and I am autisim aware because of you.

The kernel has to be modded to support ext4. I'm not a kernel guy. I could possibly borrow the bonsai kernel but we all know where that would lead. I think this leak is better then EE03 was. At this point, when the OTA hits EXT4 will be available. However, this still feels pretty quick to me. I don't even use an Epic cause I'm using the Nexus S 4G but have this on my wife's phone and I don't notice much of a difference. I tend to ignore the benchmarks and go with how it feels in the real world.
While this build or leak isn't perfect it does seem pretty solid.

(nand)4.5.1-134 DFP-231 en.EU (2.3.6) CEE[froyo rt CEE infused kernel]

So after hard documentation and hard work on this specific rom, finally made it work as i wanted to,with the froyo rt cee kernel 3.4.2-179-2 CEE DEBLUR.
a whopping thanks to the devs that made everything possible:walter79(thx for your reply's and your little advice about 2ndinit binary, helped alot)
adi4motion for ggl rom(deodexed apps and framework but specially the bootmenu)CChamelleon(for the initial nandroid)and specially the cyanogen team(just needed some .bin files from cm 7.2.0 rc3).
as you may know this rom was made on defy mb 525 green lense(havent tested on red lense)
NOTE:THIS IS NOT DOUBLE POST,POSTED ANOTHER VERSION ON GENERAL FORUM BUT THAT HAD ANOTHER KERNEL
For some it may not mean much but for the rest of the devs it means one thing, for better battery performance you need to port battd.bin from froyo rt cee system/bin and libbatd.so from system/lib for proper battery reads and efective kernel scheduling

changelog:
ics transitions,
ported 2ndinit.bin&logwrapper.bin from cm7 to boot with froyo rt cee kernel(better performace and stability)
stable camera app,
better wifi,
deodexed(close to stock as possible),
better battery life(extracted the bins from froyo rt cee for battery),
sleep & reboot option to shutdown menu;
possible bugs:live wallpapers dont work(yet) but that may get fixed(polar clock live wallpaper works)
DEFY+/RED LENSE:if you are interesed only in deodexed version of this rom do not flash this, instead use this link:

possible bugs:when it reaches critical battery level it warns but doesnt autoshutdown(typical for gb ports all of them) and some live wallpapers dont work.
pro:excellent battery life(better than stock froyo, maybe even than gb kernel)better battery stats reports and kernel scheduling because this port can properly see battery capacity and proper voltage readings(cheked with voltmeter XD)but it charges as hard as stock froyo, smooth and fast, excellent camera with no known bugs,so far so good and i recommend for daily use

I wanna try this.[/QUOyes,froyo based nand wont affect your downgrade but you might not need stock rom after this, its fast, smooth, responsive and battery friendly;onsecond charge same battery behavior(10% loss 3 hrs with music playing and few vids)

if you do please provide feedback about battery life,it matters alot cause i modded mostly with one purpose,to conclude if other mods need full battery bins and libs coresponding to froyo kernel in composition for better battery life;this could improve cm7,cm9,cm10 and miui or wiui in the future
