[Q] Request / An app to change the call tune - Android Apps and Games

hi.
I wonder if there is any app to change the tune a caller hears when he calls me (instead of hearing the regular beeps until I answer, the caller hears a music/voice file).
This is something similar to the recorded message you hear when you call to any service provider, until they answer you.
I am not sure if this is technically possible but here is my suggestion of how this could work:
When a call arrives, the app "takes control" over the call, picks it up, and plays a song/mp3 file that I have chosen. Meantime, the phone at my end rings.
And then there are two options:
1.I pick up the phone, the app stops playing the file and lets me "take control" over the call
2.I don't pick up after X time, the app disconnects the call.
I am not sure how it is in another contries but in Israel this service is offered by most of the cellular companies. However, there is no possibility to choose your own file, you have to choose between a few songs available in their database.
I am sorry if this this post is in the the wrong section. If it is please transfer to the right place.

It can be done, but it would not work properly.
You would have to send data from your phone to another one, which means a call would first have to connect.
If you were to make it work, you would have to auto-pickup all calls and then play the message. It would cost people money

Uh. Not when the operator does not support this. At least not in a way that would not p**s the hell out of the caller by paying for listening to your music and eventually result in your paying the roaming charges in case someone listens to your music while you are abroad.

No, you can't. It's all in the hands of the provider.

Dial tone heard by caller

I recently came across something I have never heard before. When I call this one number, which is a normal mobile number, instead of hearing the standard 'ring ring' tone I hear music. Quite literally, a song.
I don't know the person who I was calling, it was through work so I can't really ask them how they did it.
I was hoping someone on here might know how this is possible? Maybe its setup through the network provider.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi kaotix, this is a orange feature..only discovered this myself a few days ago. orange allow you to change the ring ring to a list of songs, voices or whatever they have. You can then assign this new caller tone to individuals or to everyone who calls you.
check it out if your on orange that is...

ATT/Cingular has had this for quite a while. They call theirs Answertones.

Q. What are Answer Tones?
A. Answer Tones let you replace the standard ringing sound that a caller normally hears while they wait for you to answer your phone. Answer Tones may be an audio clip of a popular song, celebrity voice, joke or quote. There are emotional categories and many genres to choose from.
Q. Are Answer Tones different than Ringtones?
A. Yes, Answer Tones are different than Ringtones.
Ringtones are what you hear from your phone when someone calls you. Answer Tones are what your caller hears when they call your phone, in place of the standard ringing sound.
Ringtones are downloaded to your phone and stored within the handset. Answer Tones are stored on the AT&T network in a personal "library" that you can access and manage via the web or Media Net. And because your Answer Tones are stored on AT&T's servers (rather than downloaded to your handset), you can move your SIM card to another phone and your callers will still hear the Answer Tone you've selected for them.
Each Answer Tone will have an expiration date associated with it. As an Answer Tone's expiration date approaches, we will alert you via a free text message so that you may re-purchase another Answer Tone.
Because the Answer Tones service is provided on the AT&T network (unlike Ringtones), there is a monthly fee for service.

T-Mobile US has it available also, for an extra fee of course.

[Request] Block Call application

Hi !
I am looking for an application wich can block call instantly, without one ore two rings before droping call or redirecting to voice mail. I tried a few applications from market like SPC, aFirewall etc. and i am very disappointed. Every one of them droping call after one or two rings, so caller will realize that i have an firewall installed.
Thank you !
In order for your phone to block a call, it must know there is a call to block... It has to ring on the other end, or there would be nothing to block.
Gblocker is as good as it gets
I had iBlacklist on iPhone, call filter on nokia and those apps dropped the call instantly. The phones did not ring at all.
So, there must be another explanation...

If the call if rejected by your phone the caller can always know this is happening... however your carrier should be able to blacklist numbers for you in the event of mischief and in this case the caller will actually hear a "no such number" tone and the call will never be handed to your phone to deal with.
I'm not sure if your Nokia or iPhone solution actually managed a local or a network blacklist. If it was a local blacklist then for sure the caller knows they've been hung up on (even if it doesn't ring at your end)!
aFirewall the best for me

If you go to a contact, and then to go options, there is an option to send that call directly to voicemail. Phone doesn't even ring.
aFirewall is eating my batery very fast. And it does ring one or two times before droping the call (even more when it came back from sleep/stand by).
Refer to iBlacklist, i can tell you that it is blocking the call somehow before ringing - i tried to call from another phone and it divert the call to voice mail instantly, with no ring - sounds like network busy tone.
The same for Nokia.
Anway, thanks for your suggestions !
The best solution is the modified Phone.apk from Cytown. You can block the call
in the same way carrier does. Your phone never make any sound, or turn on the screen...
Nothing happens, like the call never exist.

Yes this works. it is already built into the phone. I have a few numbers set up this way already. Why are you guys using apps for this?
Because i don't want to add to contacts every not wanted numbers. And i need that application to manage scheduled profiles (again, like iblacklist - no, i don't want an iphone just for this app), so i can manage when and for whom i am availlable.

[REQ]Call Transfer

Morning/Afternoon/Evening XDA
I am looking for an app that would allow me to transfer a current call to another mobile/landline phone, similar to what i can do in my office. I do not mean divert incoming calls i actually want to pass the call on my phone to another line whilst making the person i am speaking to aware of it...

Is is truly unbelievable to me that in this day and age such an essential phone function could have been overlooked! I have been searching for days and days and found NOTHING or got stupid responses such as "use Google" (Online only, uses Data and for US Citizens only) or "use voicemail" (expensive cellular provider subscription add-on)... I mean, come on! When even the cheapest home phones can be gotten with built in answering machines, how come this essential feature is nowhere to be seen on android phones?
What's the deal, what's the technical hangup, what's the problem? Can anyone explain the REASON why there are NO call answering machine-like apps of any kind out there?

Im looking for the same thing and can't find it too!
Here is my need. I have a business phone number and my personal cell phone number. All my customers should call me to my business number which I can set to auto-forward to my cell only at the time I want to. But some of my customers know my cell phone number and they keep having this bad habit of calling me on it instead of my business phone number.
I'm looking for a app that will be tracking in the background the caller id number of incoming calls, if the number is a on list of unwanted that I have set, it will auto-answer, play an audio file recorded by me (like: "Please dial 111-222-3333 to reach me, thanks you") and then hang-up.
I don't feel alone with the need of a solution like this. And there are apps that can auto-answer call according to the caller id and there are apps that can play audio in a call, I don't see why it could not be technically possible to combine both.
wow
can't belive it, i was looking for the same and found several threads like this one, that's sad
let's hope sth comes up
Yeah, I used to have this function on my old fliphone from way back in 2002! Also, on my Windows Mobile phones after that...
Exactly. My nokia flip from ages ago (ran symbian OS) has an app on it called "Advanced Answering Machine" or "Advanced Call Manager" or something similar.
I could set it up so that it would direct calls to different greetings depending on the caller ID. An example of this is, I wont accept calls from "unknown" or "blocked" etc numbers. ACM/AAM would handle this perfectly. It would answer the phone, play the Telstra (thats a telco in australia) message "the number you have called is not available from this service." twice, then hang up. Later on I found out I was missing some important calls (the message confused some people such as the landlord who had a blocked number) so I changed it to "I do not accept calls from blocked numbers. To unblock your number, dial 1831 in front of your number. It wont cost you any more". This fixed the problem.
It was also programmed to answer calls after 30 seconds of ringing and play a standard greeting then take a message.
It was a very versatile program. I could (for example) divert certain calls to a party line if I didnt want calls from that particular number; however I didnt, as the diverted leg would cost me a fortune.
Its a shame on these advanced handsets today that such a simple, commonly available on landline phones, feature is not available. I can control televisions, fly remote controlled toys and vapourize components with a big bank of capacitors over bluetooth using my phone, yet it cant perform a simple answering machine function.
From what I hear the API that handles these functions is not directly accessable to developers; probably because "malware" could hook in and dial high priced premium calls and rack up huge bills all the while the phone owner not knowing until the monthly account comes in.
I did see one answerphone somewhere but it utilised the speaker so if it took a call (for example while your at the pub) the caller would not hear your greeting, or on the train everyone around you would hear your greeting and then the callers message, so not very practical. It would NOT work properly while the phone was on mute.
xperia phones come with buit-in answering machine feature. or use jail broken iphone and u have half a dozen apps which can do it.
unfortunately in android noway.. even if u r rooted.. no way

[app request] auto answer

Hello,
During the last days I got a lot of so called "ping calls".
Someone is calling from abroad, let the phone ring just a very short time, hoping I call back the expensive number he submitted.
This is really arguing and disturbing.
Now I am looking for an app (android), that answers the call (from a pre selected area code) immediately, without activating the mic. Maybe playing a funny MP3...
Of course it should mute the ringing.
Thank you for your help and ideas.

They have fake number apps on the app store, they call via wifi and when you call them, you can play your silly music.
I don't want to call them. I want to answer their call, because this would cost them money.
