I'm going to say Welcome SGS user. But I think your in the wrong section. You have a Nexus S 4G that is with Sprint and this is the SGS 4G from Tmobile section.
Hope you enjoy your phone either way. Lucky you get Gingerbread on your phone.
Please don't try flashing any of the stock ROM's, Theme's or the CWM in this section because the phones are different and you may brick your phone. Plus you'd be downgrading the firmware if it happen to go through which I think would be impossible since the wireless radio's are different.

alright so i had one of my friends who has the vibrant on tmobile help me root and install darkys rom on my phone. since i had no idea i just let him do it since he has it on his phone. we rooted it use the onesuperclick. we took off the bloatwear and then put the rom on the sd card loaded it up in recovery and did the recovery then installed it. my phone hard bricked. nothing comes up or no download mood nothing even when pluged. but no worries i just send it to tmobile. but i wanna know if anyone can give me a guide to do this step by step so it dosent happen again when i get my phone back. thanks
The vibrant roms do not work on the 4g....until they are ported to 4g with the proper mods made to the rom they will cause a brick everytime

1. no matter how much it looks like it, the s4g isn't a vibrant. there are as of yet no custom roms available.
2. people like you and your friend are the reason carriers and manufacturers are going towards more restrictive ability to root and signed/encrypted bootloaders
theirs no roms for the 4g?

Really though, when carriers stop insuring phones, this will be the reason why....
i had the same hard brick problem as above but for me it was weird. all i wanted at the time was to get rid of the bloat where and i did after which i unrooted and the phone worked fine. the weird thing is later i went in to download mode by accident and before i could do anything the phone was bricked. tmobile replaced My phone but if this has happened to anyone else please reply

Since the nexus 4g already has a working ics build is anyone working on porting this over they have a full system dump but I believe most of this was a sdk build.

If anyone from this forum is working on it, I will be more gladly to help them out. Dexton or Raver could probably port this since its not that hard at all...
Ps I gave my sgs4g to my sis in law which means I will blind port it but not until we found out who is working on it already and who is not. If you wana be testing rat, message me

I read in google posts that devices with hardware buttons running ICS will be using them and won't have their on screen replacements. That's good news, but i guess we'll need something official to support that.

I know its a different phone, but maybe not that different..? So we can hope for ICS to work to a reasonable extent on the SGS4G...?
I will test
My husband has a Samsung Vibrant 3G, I rooted it and installed MIUI-NB_1.12.2_signed a few days ago and he really likes it. He just bought a used Samsung Vibrant 4G with the FFC on Craigslist today. Our question is if I make a ROM Manager backup of the current ROM on the 3G, can I install it on the 4G or is the hardware so different that it is impossible? Thanks for any feedback !!
Vibrant ain't sgs4g. Vibrant roms (nitpickers) brick sgs4g, ROM manager shouldn't allow flash work on sgs4g... ROM manager issue with sgs4g too.
Treat both phones/roms separately...

Thanks !!
ok, off I go to root and install a fresh copy THANKS !!
Good luck with that no miui here...

You did the right thing by asking first. If you need more help just go ahead and ask in this thread, plenty of people willing to help others who ask the right questions.
OK, we have decided to leave the OS virgin for now, no root and no custom ROM Maybe later we'll root at least. Thanks for the feedback and keep up the GREAT WORK !!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
So I know for future reference, what is the easiest and best application to root the 4G? I have quite a few downloaded when I rooted my husband's Vibrant 3G, such as SuperOneClick and Galaxy S One Click Root All Models. Which one do you recommend?
Depends if your on froyo or GB
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
It's Froyo 2.2.1 It's probably a much better thing than being on Gingerbread to root, right? It's a PAIN in the badonkadonk to downgrade via ADB, been there done that twice with the MyTouch 4G's Successfully too, it was a huge learning curve though LOL
Eh it's the same really.just the method differ. For froyo you can find super one click 1.9 and use the PS nueter (sp?) Option just like you did with the vibrant.
are you planning on cwm recovery?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
yes, I know CWM pretty well since I started rooting MyTouch 4G's a couple of months ago, I find it easy to use and never had any problems on those particular phones. But then, the MyTouch 4G's are HTC phones, this is a Samsung and a completely different kind of breed If you have anything better and safer for rooting the Samsung Galaxy S 4G's, I'm all ears
You could hit the GB upgrade, root, and cwm all in one flash with my one click guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422824
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Tell him it's ok that his phone isn't as good as yours/ours. Just once for me
If you decide on updating, 2.3.6 version is really smooth. There's a few ROMs around, just read up and follow any/all directions.

sorry im a noob, im guessing its very hard
No...but I've already ported 5 i9000 Rome and captivate Roms...and bigfau has about the same if not more...look in the superthread...you will see them...and yes...porting is no picnic
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
You can choose any of them besides cm7 or miui and flash hellraiser directly after if I'm not mistaken
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
nothing hard about porting if you have the information but I'm sure it was no picnic for Linux bozo the first time. also if you want to run other roms not already ported then use the hellraiser mod and follow the flash instructions to the letter.
also why just i9000/ captivate roms. the vibrant has many good roms and I'm sure the sgs4g roms can also work considering we have even more in common with that phone than the regular galaxy s.
Actually it IS hard if you have never done it...that was my point.....it took me forever to get.my first port to boot...but when it does its like riding a bike after that....but anyway...just take your time and study....in non technical terms...open hellraiser and you'll see everything you need....SMDH!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
I didn't mean it as a rebuttal to your post. its all relative. hard/not hard its all a matter of opinion and yeah I've banged my head over stuff that should be stupid easy. and porting the rom is not stupid easy so yeah it can be a headache.
for me app modding is hard, driver writing issues impossible, for my brother its all easy as long as he has documentation. he could easily run with the best xda devs if he had the interest, but he doesn't care much for phones.
for me interpreting blueprints and machining and programming cnc machines and welding aren't hard but to someone else what I do can look intimidating yet I can train anyone with some sense how to do any of those things in a short time.
but back to the op, if you are interested in releasing a rom port break everything down, see what goes into a cwm update package, then break down hellraiser but realize some of the tricks in that update script aren't needed for a onetime flash, there is a shell script that mods the build.prop, you can more easily pre mod the build.prop according to what that script would do and build it into the rom. but if you are just interested in the a certain rom for yourself then you can flash any gb rom for a GSM galaxy s and flash hellraiser back to back. do not reboot before you flash hellraiser that would be bad!

I'd say use the Faux kernel with Sky Ice Cream
It gives me the best battery life... about 2 days with moderate use.
And NEVER use ROM Manager. It's BAD. VERY BAD!
