Bluetooth Voice Dialing on Samsung Infuse - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hey guys,
I spent hours trying to get Bluetooth voice dialing working on the Samsung Infuse using various apps from the market with no real luck with anything good. So I did some searching of the web for a solution and after some time, I ended up finding a working modified version of the Nuance Voice Command Suite 3.2 that comes pre-installed on many Motorola android phones such as the Atrix that works perfectly on the Samsung Infuse...
Enjoy... I take no credit for making this package, just finding it and I wanted to let everyone know about it, because an awesome phone like this needs working Bluetooth voice dialing support.
You can download it from here:
http://mirror.batteryboss.org/signed-Voice.zip
~ REQUIRES ROOT, MODIFIED 3e RECOVERY, AND CLOCKWORK ROM MANAGER (Galaxy S i9000) INSTALLED TO INSTALL THIS APP ~
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A NON-STOCK ROM SUCH AS INFUSED BY gtg465x THEN YOU JUST NEED TO INSTALL CLOCKWORK ROM MANAGER FROM THE MARKET (EDIT: NEW VERSIONS ALREADY INCLUDE THIS AS WELL), AS ROOT AND MODIFIED 3e RECOVERY HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE FOR YOU.
To install:
1. Boot into CWM OR open ROM Manager on your phone and select Reboot into Recovery.
2. The phone will reboot into CWM, if not and it boots into 3e Recovery just select the Reinstall Packages option then CWM should come up.
3. Choose Install ZIP from SD Card
4. Select the ZIP file for Voice Commands wherever you saved it to. I just put it on the internal SD Card when I did it.
5. Confirm Yes to Install
6. It will do its thing, then reboot the phone in CWM when finished.
7. Once done, after you reboot and your phone loads back up, you should see an application that says Voice Commands in your application list
8. You can now activate voice commands by hitting the button on your Bluetooth headset or by manually opening the app from the menu.
FYI: it may take a little longer than normal to open the first few times as it indexes the names of your applications installed on your phone to be able to open them by voice, especially if you have many apps installed..

Hey maybe you can give us an example of how this works? I am downloading now and looks great for driving.... Thanks!

OMG!! This thing is awesome!!! Great for when you are in using bluetooth in the car...
You just say call this, or message that, or start this program.... Its so awesome!!!

hi... this is pretty much unrelated, but I've already seen this home screen widget on multiple phones' home screens. I am looking for the time/weather widget that's on Screenshot #4 in the OP. Does anyone know what that widget's called and where I could get it from? Thanks.

Hmmm... went through the steps and everything seemed to go fine and the utility is installed and running.
However, when I try to use it via the headset, the app launches, connects to bluetooth, immediately disappears (crashes? - although I can hear in the headset that it seems like its waiting for a command), but never accepts any commands and I can't get it to stop at the screen pictured in the screenshot #3 above where it's listening.
When I launch the app from the icon, it just says Please Wait, then disappears. Task manager says there are 0 Active Applications. But I do see it running in the list of Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Running tab.
Any ideas?
I'm running the stock ROM @ v.2.2.1 (OTA update as of about 4 days ago).

Thanks for the reply.
Yes. I have GScript installed and it seems to be running correctly.
I attempted a re-install, but after the boot, the same issue occurs. I wonder if there is a conflict with something else running (although I killed nearly everything when trying to get it to run).
Any further advice would be appreciated.

Okay, so I bailed in the Stock 2.2.1 ROM and installed Refuse 1.6. This is my first cooked ROM on this phone (do they still call them that? It's been a couple years since I was here since I was trapped in the vacuum of the iPhone for a while...) but it's awesome so far and the voice app works to. SWEET!
Thanks for the encouragement to flash the phone.

Yeah the devs have been doing great work.... I was on infused and then went to bionix, because for some reason, maybe it was a earlier rom, titanium backup wasn't restoring. But like I said, that was during the transition to voodoo ext4 lagfix. Anyways... Glad it works!!!! Infused is definitely a great rom though!...

Look up Infused 1.5 in the dev section. follow those directions and get infused rom installed. then come back and install this... there is a support thread in the dev section as well. Don't get turned off, just flashing a rom. Its not that hard....

Installed and working on Infused 1.5.0. Not the best I have ever used but 1000% better than what I had which was nothing..........Thank you a ton for this. But why don't they include a Bluetooth capable voice dialer in the phone out of the box??? Just about every phone out there does this now and with all of the hype about texting/talking while driving you would think that having an app like this on the phone would almost be mandatory...................???????

Using Choice Dialer Plus Free (AKA Hands-Free Voice Dialer (free)) from Android Market with my Infuse. Works great and doesn't need a data connection.

Force closes on the new Infused v2.0.0, how do I uninstall this? There is no uninstall option from the application menu.
Update: Beware - wow really screwing up Infused v2.0.0., I get a force close message upon paring my headset.
I renamed the file VSuiteApp.apk and rebooted the phone and so far it seems to have worked, the app is no longer in the app tray or in the Applications list and I haven't gotten any force close issues. I'd still like to know a clean way to completely remove the app.
Choice Dialer seems to be working fine.

I ended up finaly removing it using titanium backup. Your going to have to uninstall using TB and then you need to pull the battery and reboot the phone. I had to pull the battery because it got stuck in a force close loop after I uninstalled it but now my phone is fine.

Tried that. You get a new text telling you to call a certain number to retrieve your voice mail.
Blacklist the number?
One way around it
Well. It seems you can go to Sprint and block the text message at the source. Just log into your account and add them to your block list.
Will have a voice mail sent to me and see if it works. I've read in other forums that it can take a month to work.
-JZ
Update: Blocking 9016 did NOT work. My VVM updates, but I still get the annoying texts.
Any suggestions?
im not sure what that 9016 issue is but i do have a voicemail notification issue so i will speak of that
the sms you receve can be avoided while messing with ur settings in google voice online... when u click edit on ur mobile number there are options to uncheck sms notifications as well as transcriptions.. mess with ur settings and that fixes that issue, now onto the annoying one...
the way that i have figured out how to temporarly remove the icon is to flash whatever the latest nightly build is using rom manager and the use the option to wipe and adding the google apps, i then wait for my phone to reboot and let rom manager do its thang then as soon as i put in all my gmail information i wait till the menu starts to pop up then quickly press menu, call settings, voicemail number then change that *86 to my 10 digit phone number then press okay then i quickly change my carrier to google voice then go through all of those settings quickly till i click finish then press okay even though i may get that error that says something like my carrier doesnt support google voice or whatever it is then i go back to the carrier option and even though google voice is already selected i click google voice again and it tells me that my number has changed... no more voicemail notification UNTIL i reboot my phone, so any new fix that maybe come out involving any other issue i choose to ignore if it means that i have to reboot my phone... also a good thing to know is once u have success of finally getting rid of the icon whenever a new build is released just install it using rom manager once again but this time DO NOT select the wipe option and rom manager will install the latest build without the voicemail icon and all ur settings will be good to go right after the install however the same rules still apply, one u reboot it will come back, so after installing the latest build just dont wipe and dont reboot after all is said and done...
even though some tard thinks me mentioning *86 as the issue is me "wasting bandwidth" i feel that that is where the issue is.. this is the only rom that i have to change the carrier settings right off the bat instead of defaulting to our sprint voicemail... im not saying im *****ing about the issue in any way but this is an issue ive been having so i thought i would mention that...
now onto things ive tried that never worked....
ive tried just keeping my sprint number as the default but that never works, my only solution has been changing to google voice quickly...
ive called myself exactly 10 times and left myself voicemail messages, then after installing the latest nightly ive change to my voicemail number to sprints and deleted all 10 msgs and that did nothing...
ive gone into the application settings and deleted the phone data cache then quickly change to google voice without success, even after changing the settings i quickly pulled my battery and then started my phone so that it would default to googlevoice and still nothing...
since rom manager has worked for me as a temp fix ive tried doing all the same stuff using ar recovery doing all wipes and whatever else is possible without success, rom manager is the only one that works for me so i just stick to that...
and for those that say the google voice is too hard to setup its really not, just quit being lazy and do ur initial setup through google.com/voice and get urself a number and play with ur settings in there and when ur done with that then start the tutorial up top
i never had this issue until went from a cm6 nightly to zenfx2.2 to update my prl then I nandroided back and now i get these texts every 5 min
I think you guys should think of using Google Voice... Unless I am misunderstanding something, this is a Sprint VVM problem right?

Problem with google voice is that it sometimes disconnects for no reason. I was using it and had to change because it kept dropping me and people would tell me my voicemail did not work.
I'd be cool with G-Voice if it did not do this.

This is just an educated guess and not a statement of fact, but having run the Fresh ROM in the past, it sounds like at some point you flashed your phone with the Fresh ROM, and then maybe flashed back to CM6 but forgot to wipe everything?
When the Fresh ROM boots up, it does indeed say, "Fresh!", so if you're stuck in a boot loop with that ROM's data, you could hear "Fresh!" repeatedly and your phone not start up.
I would go to recovery, do the full factory reset wipe, wipe cache, dalvik cache, and then do your nand-restore or reflash of CM6, google apps, etc.
I hope that this helps.
Thank you for your time,
I would try to just wipe the dalvik and cache first and only do a factory reset if that doesn't work.

I may try it again, as I did not mind G-Voice. But it had happened a few different times. Now I admit I have not tried it since I went to RC2 and the 8/24 nightly.
I'll try setting it up again and see what happens.

[Q] 'Tasker' android app problems/force closes

Hi!
I just got my SK4G the other week, and migrated over from a Motorola Milestone. I was using the brilliant 'Tasker' App on my Milestone, and when it came to getting the SK4G, I backed up my tasks and profiles, and am using the same SD card with the Sidekick.
My problem is that while all of the profiles I had set up are working fine, I am unable to create new ones because of the app continuously force closing. Whenever I try to set up a task, as soon as I get to the dialog to choose what actions to run, I get a short vibration, a pause, and then three quick vibrations followed by a force close. The rest of the app functions fine, and the tasks I'd already set up work perfectly.
I have tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the app,
Removing my backed up preferences and creating tasks on default settings,
Using a task killer to free up RAM,
Rebooting,
Waiting a few days and trying again,
although nothing is working. I am still unable to use the app, as this unexplainable force closes prevent me from doing anything.
I know what you're thinking, "Go ask the Tasker forums!" but I just thought I would try here, seeing as it's a fairly popular app and the phone is only new I think I would have better chance finding someone who also uses the app on SK4G and might be able to enlighten me or tell me they have the same problem.
So, anyone got any ideas? Anyone using Tasker without problems on SK4G?
When you tried to install it on your SK4g, did you download it from the Market or did you just install the APK from your old phone?
I downloaded it from the market again, although its not impossible that there could have been some app files left behind on the sd card. Do you know what they would look like?
Thanks for helping!
Also, I'm just headed to bed, so don't expect another reply immediately
I've got Tasker working just fine here, that might just be some part of having the old files on your phone. Can you pull off everything that you copied over and try to redownload it from Market to see if that works without an FC?
I'm cleaning out my SD card now, getting rid of any extra Tasker files, and going to try that, although I can't actually uninstall the app. I do it via the market and it still shows up and I can still open it... This is with the SD card mounted and unavailable...
why can't you uninstall it? you should be able to just click uninstall in the applications list? it isn't a system app so there shouldn't be a problem there. also, why is your sdcard mounted but unavailable? that's just confusing. maybe that's why it can't uninstall? if it's installed to your sdcard, maybe it can't get to the application to uninstall it?
Sorry, by 'mounted' I meant to say that I was using the usb mass storage so the SD card was unavailable.
I ended up working out that I had given Tasker some kind of permissions in security settings, and had to disable that to uninstall.
Went through with uninstall, formatted my SD card and tried from scratch with Tasker again. No luck. Have now restored my profiles so I can keep using them until I sort it out.
huh. that's weird. and you reinstalled from market, not from an apk?
Yep! nothing makes sense!
Have you been able to completely uninstall it from your phone through settings?
I did completely uninstall, yes. I then re-downloaded from the market and I'm getting the same thing.
and what exactly are you doing in tasker when it force closes?
I get FC whenever I try to click the + button to add an action to a task.
I also asked the Tasker forums/google groups thing, and they told me to install a beta version, and I have and it fixed everything
So if anyone else has been having these problems just grab the latest beta of Tasker from here:
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/beta.html
The reson it fc is cuz u r stopping processes which are need to run for the device to work.......Well I will be honest with you,if ur talking about a task killer....ITS POINT LESS....unless u are a dev and plane to us ur phone for deving....because no matter how much ur stop things well they will just start runing againg and well the appes are waste of space if u want to spot app, go to mune, then apps, manage apps and stop the ones u don't want....
No, Tasker is something completely different - it lets you automate lots of Android things

[Q] Sky ICS - Google Voice won't allow request

So i installed the Sky ICS version 6.9.2z update and i still can't google voice to work, it hasn't worked since i installed Sky ICS at all... well it installs fine and everything but everytime it goes to allow google request when i hit the allow button it locks up for 10 seconds or so and crashes back to the home screen, it doesn't say force close or anything like that. I have tried clearing caches permissions and everything i can think of... why won't it let me allow request? also, visual voicemail doesn't every work either says incorrect password but i really don't want that anyway... i want Google Voice! So, if anyone has any ideas i could try please let me know, i would greatly appreciate it!
I've also had this problem. I think I fixed it by going to Settings > Call and make sure the voicemail service is "My Carrier" then set it back as Google voice.
If that didn't work uninstall google voice, go to Settings > Call and make sure the voicemail service is "My Carrier" then install google voice again and run through the setup. Should solve it.
I followed the steps you suggested but i still cannot get it to work... the carrier is set as google voice but when i click voice it just tries to go through the setup again and crashes. If i click google voice setting under settings>call>voicemail - settings for Google Voice it just runs through the setup again...Thank you for your suggestions though!
Have you tried the manual settings given on google voice settings page.
I think something like enter ##0040# press call and it will forward...
Yeah, i did manually put those numbers in and got confirmation that it was forwarding to my phone but google voice itself still just crashes when i get allow this request and "click" Allow it freezes for like 10 seconds goes black screen for several seconds then back at the home screen... then next time i click google voice it goes back to the setup again.
I think that everyone has the notification error where it says that the update was unsuccessful. After I see that I always click on my google voice number then back out and it just works. But it sounds like your program is crashing before you even get the unsuccessful msg.
Try moving your GV apk to the internal SD after you wipe data then uninstall from the applications page. In fact goto applications page from settings find GV wipe data, then uninstall and boot to recovery. Now in recovery wipe dalvik x2, wipe cache partition x2, reboot android and goto into rom manager and fix permisions. then goto the market my apps and download GV to install GV either to the internal SD card or the external SD if u have.. point is to try a different path.
If none of that works then I suggest that you re format your internal SD and system but make sure to have your base ROM waiting within reach of CWM.
If you end up going this route then take your time and DO NOT use TitaniumBackup for anything, and uncheck restore system from within the privacy page. Build your foundation slowly on top of the fresh format and back up that solid base with only essentials to cwm.
best of luck
Well, i followed all that and still get the same thing... i was hoping it wouldn't come to starting over but Voice is important to me. It worked just fine on every ROM on my captivate grr so frustrating... My main concern is i don't know how i can do any cleaner of an install than i just did... i just got the phone and never set up the stock ROM at all and the first thing i did is follow the SKY ICS don't complain about FCs guide to get it as clean as possible and then i installed the ROM... There was no backup or restoring anything except i guess from whatever google settings were backed up. I might have to try a different ROM. Well, thanks for all your guys help!
So i downloaded and installed gReader last night and this also has the same Allow Request screen... this freezes, crashes back to home screen just like google voice so it has nothing to do with google voice itself, there is something very wrong... i feel like it has trouble getting permission from my gmail account?
Just an update, i did a format/clean install without anything backed up... Now it all works!
nice! Format, fresh install.. did you uncheck 'backup to Google' in privacy tab?
that was the straw that broke the stubborn androids back from my experience.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
actually i was debating back and forth but yes i decided to keep backup checked and keep whatever google has backed up and fortunately everything works flawlessly so far!

[Q] Emancipation Questions

Just did a complete wipe and installed the latest Emancipation release this morning.
When my text messages are a certain length, the sms message fails to send.
When I try to download dialers or themes using the OTA, the downloads are unsuccessful.
Did the lock screen option menu get moved somewhere else from the first release because I dont see it.
Im just wondering if I need to add another APN?
Thanks for the input!

What length SMS seems to cause an issue? I have not seen any issues with SMS so far, but granted my messages are generally pretty short anyway.
When you try and download the dialers or themes are you using the stock browser? I think there is a known issue with that. Nun had said "Q. I try to download from the ota and I always get "download unsucessful. How do I fix this?
A. Many have stated that trying a browser other than stock will help...Opera, Dolphin, etc should work. If you prefer to use stock...try this: Download Astro File Explorer, open preferences, and scroll to the bottom and select "enable browser downloads"...then ownload like a good boy should!"
I followed his suggestion and had no more troubles trying to download the OTA stuff.
Lock screen stuff is in display settings. Don't remember where it was on the previous build.
Thank you for the info, you pretty much answered all my questions. I had a brain fart on the lock screen- it was under display. I thought it was in the Emancipation OTA previously.
As far as the text messaging, I cant put a finger on the length because sometimes it works... Not sure whats up with that. But I do know that usually long texts do fail and they will go through if i try to resend them a few times...
What browser do you recommend? Is there an agreed upon one that everyone uses?
when I download i use dolphin mini browser...-
i like opera but it doesnt let me download...
about your sms, you check the messages/setting /message center... sometimes its reset when changing roms..
I just use the stock browser. I loaded the Astro File Explorer and everything worked fine.
I know there are better browsers out there but the audio book service I use only works the stock browser and Firefox. I have tried it with Firefox, but it just works better with the stock browser. My commute is about 80 minutes each way; so I would go crazy without my audio books.
I have always used the app "Download All Files" its a super light app that works with all files in any app or browser and then I can just use the stock browser

I'm having a problem sending and recieving MMS, which I had once before ever flashing my infuse. APN settings got changed somehow (probably me). Reset the APN and it was fixed. Problem crept again after flashing Emancipation. Under the available APN types the list I'm given only has:
Internet+MMS
Internet
MMS
I think I'm needing an "supl" option. Am I missing that due to a bad flash and need to redo it. Or is it simply not available o Emanc and need to try a ROM i can edit the APN by typing like CM7?
Thanks

I believe the number in your Message Center should be:
+13123149810
Its official, both my Infuse and my wifes cannot send long text messages. We have to cut them in half for whatever reason. Any ideas?
Also my data is ridiculously slow. Youtube videos are taking upwards of an hour to load on both phones too. This wasnt a problem on Zeus and I was wondering if there are something I should look into? Thanks!
I have the same issue also can't send/receive pics to my ended phone started when I flashed this ROM. Worked great in last.

What modem are you using? I had a similar issue running another ROM. I flashed UCLB3 and it resolved the issue.

Emancipation OTA Problem
Firstly I'd like to thank everyone for the awesome community and work that goes on here at XDA. I've been reading through all the forums the last several weeks and learned so much about my new phone (Samsung Infuse 4G). Through all the tutorials, Q&As etc. I have successfully flashed my firmware three different times. Started out with Zeus v6, Aeon and now I'm finally settled on Emancipation1 with the Dark Blue theme. I really like this ROM.
Now my problem/question. For the ROM flash and Dark Blue theme flash I just downloaded the files to my PC and moved them over to the phone. Everything at that point was fine. Everything on my phone works great except for the Emancipation OTA. It worked the first time immediately after the flash (just checking it out), however now whenever I try to use the Emanicaption OTA I get an error on my phone screen that says "Sorry - The application Settings (process.com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. - Force close)
I've tried with wi-fi enabled and disabled. My stock browser works fine and I went ahead and installed Astro File Manager Explorer. I also booted the phone into Recovery Mode and wiped the cache and Davlik cache.
Any ideas on what might be wrong or causing my inability to use the Emancipation OTA? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Sorry, the only known solutions when that consistently pops up is a reflash. Something did not take right or is interferring with that working properly. Back it up and reflash.
Thanks. Was hoping you weren't going to say that though
One more simple ?
Does anyone know if the themes and other content available through the EmancipationOTA is available for direct download (say from the server to a PC so it can then be moved to the phone the old fashioned way?)
Nope. All themes go though the OTA.

[Q] Uninstall issue with Android uninstaller

I have searched everywhere for someone having a similar problem and a fix, but for the first time on xda, I haven't been able to find one.
I have a Galaxy SIII on Verizon currently running Hyperdrive RLS13.
When I open the Application Manager, click on an app (any app, it doesn't matter whether I installed it from the Play Store or from an apk) and then click "Uninstall", it does nothing but goes back to the application list. It doesn't install, I get no error message, Settings doesn't crash...it just does nothing. It's the same as using the back button.
I CAN uninstall apps within the Play Store. Occasionally the uninstall button in the Settings will actually give me the confirmation pop-up to continue with the uninstall or to cancel it. But 90% of the time it doesn't and I have to use the Play Store.
I have done a clean flash once already and the issue still persists. My fiance who has the same exact phone as me (but in white) is also running Hyperdrive RLS13 and his phone is fine. In fact, I flashed Hyperdrive onto both our phones with the same exact SD card, using the same zip file.
I've been using custom ROMs for several years so yes, I've done all the obvious things, but I've reached the extent of my knowledge on what could be causing this. Can anyone tell me if they have heard of this issue before or a possible fix? I've never had this issue outside of Hyperdrive (I would post in the Hyperdrive thread but I don't have enough posts to reply in Development).
Have you tried flashing rls14. I would do your wipes and then flash the newest release.

I just downloaded it yesterday but I haven't flashed it yet - it's moving to my SD card right now. The only reason I posted for a fix though is because reflashing 13 didn't help... the issue just randomly started occuring about 3 weeks after I originally installed Hyperdrive. It makes me wonder what caused it.
I will be flashing 14 shortly and will report back.
Following a clean RLS14 flash, I still cannot uninstall within the Application Manager.
My fiance's phone (which I also updated to 14 as well this afternoon) can do so like usual.
So...any ideas?
workaround
assuming you nandroided coming from 13 to 14, just dont select those apps you want uninstalled to backup.
flash 14, restore apps, and only the ones you want will appear.
another workaround to try is install nova, long click the icon on a homescreen, select uninstall. not sure if this is a prime faeture though.
Well, sure - the even easier workaround is to just uninstall them with the Play Store, but I'd rather find out why this is happening.
So I've searched the web and the Hyperdrive thread and can't seem to find anything ANYWHERE. Any insight would be helpful. It seems to make sense that it could be a permissions issue maybe, but I don't know enough about building ROMs to know how to go about testing that.
