bigger icons on home screen - Android Apps and Games

Hi,
I would like my 4 most commonly used shortcuts as large icons on my main home screen.
3 are app shortcuts and one to direct message.
I use launcher pro plus, this lets me resize widgets but I want to resize just these 4 icons.
Maybe there is some widget that is customisable for a single shortcut and I could put it on my screen four times? Or one widget that I can add to have the 4?
I have a small screen 230x320 and the icons are very small, I have found nice icons to use for each shortcut but it's a waste because they are tiny, cramped and don't look good
I see a program called Bigger Icons Widget, but it doesn't show up in the market on my phone, must be incompatible I guess, I have a galaxy 5
any suggestions will be much appreciated =)
Thanks

Use Desktop VisualizeR from the market:

perfect, thank you very much ! =)

Can you post screenshots of the launcher? I think we'd all like to have an idea of how it looks before we download it.
screen shots
attach the screenshots.
So what, exactly, is special about this launcher?
I like the concept. Great for users migrating from the iPhone, or those that want a simple interface. I downloaded it from the market last week, and have been playing around with it.
It places all your applications on a series of home (application) screens when first installed. You are then able to add up to 3 widget screens, which are placed to the left of the application screens. You can re-arrange your applications by grouping them into folders. These folders as well as your applications can be placed anywhere other than the widget screens, in any order. It doesn't have an apps drawer and so your wallpaper is visible at all times.
heyy dude!! I think itz too simple... i think an app drawer wid 3D wd b gud... N sum custom icons wid gud transition effects wd b gr8!!
Very nice.
Having an iPhone, this looks and feel just like it. Keep up the good work.

THank you.
Thanks for the clues.
Can someone change the layout to fit the Wildfire's screen?
Meh. The ui is boring and ugly lol.

I tried vlauncher the other day, from the Market. What it does, it does well. I would like to see it do more. Here are my two suggestions:
1. Allow shortcuts and bookmarks on the Widget pages. In the standard Android launcher, is very convenient to get to battery use or a weather bookmark with one press of an icon on the screen.
2. In your settings, have an entry for the column and row sizes. On the 7 inch screen of my Nook Color I would like more than 4 columns and 4 rows of icons on each screen.
If you add these two features I think I could use vlauncher every day.

Widget Recommendation: CircleLauncher.. Awesome space saver!!

Download from the market, I highly recommend it! It allows you to free up space on your homescreen, as instead of having individual app icons, you can have one circle (or icon of your choice) that contains many apps. It acts as a sort of mini app drawer, where the apps can surround it in a circle when pressed, or they can fan out in a horizontal or vertical line. It also has effects, where you can blur the screen behind the widget, or that an icon grows in size (like on mac os) when your finger is on them. Try it out, I personally love it
Very nice indeed!
Thanks!
No problem! I bought it and liked it so much that I've been telling all my friends with androids about it. I love how customizable it is, and how well it works. It isn't a battery hog at all either which is nice. I basically never have to actually go into my app drawer now.
will try it....nice info mate....

[Q] Display a name for each of the 5 Home Screens

I played with an Acer at a local store and noticed that the various Home Screens have names, like "Entertainment", "Communication" etc (or something like this).
I'm wondering if it's possible to give each of the stock home screens a name so that I can organize apps into different categories. When scrolling from screen to screen the name would be displayed.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
LongTrail.
the easiest way to do this would be to just use a custom widget maker (available on the market i believe) and just create a widget with the name of the category you want and put it on each homescreen. that would be the fastest way to accomplish this.
That would certainly work, many thanks for the suggestion.
There's an app Called desktop label I use, it might be what you need
i used an apps called Make Your Own Clock HD
it's free, and it got amazing feature to create custom text widget to do what u describe
minimal text
I did this on my Transformer. I used Minimal Text Widget to label each screen and then used multiple live wallpaper to give each screen a different set of wallpapers.
I have a home screen with weather/email info etc. and a link to browser.
A Tech screen with market and system stuff.
A Media screen with video/reading stuff.
and a Games screen with games.
I used desktop visualizer to make the icons on each screen look nice and folder organizer to make groups for games and emulators and such.
I can upload screens later but here is a link to something similar to what I am running except on the nook color.

Thanks Folks for all the help. I will take a look and see which idea gets me to where I want to be

[ICONS] Spearoid Game, Dock, and Misc. Icons

I've created and collected game icons with a "black plate" theme ever since my first Android phone. I've also tinkered with dock icons and come up with a look I like. I decided there might be someone else out there who is as particular as I am about the way my icons look if they're on a homescreen.
I use Folder Organizer from the Play Store to create single homescreen icons that pop up a window for multiple apps. This is very helpful for games. I have 30 or so...but don't want to scroll through all of them. So I group them by something in common (finger swiping, emulator, etc). Here is what it looks like for me. Screenshot
Here are my game icons. Screenshot

Also, I use LauncherPro. I've tried them all, and always come back. One thing I love, is the swipe options on your dock icons. Especially for web-browsing. Here you can see my dock icons and the reason why I'd take up one of my 5 spots with a Browser shortcut given LauncherPro's swipe feature. Screenshot
Here are my dock icons. Screenshot
Download Spearoid Dock Icons Personally, I think the clear ones are the best-looking.
If you end up using my game icons and wish I had a game icon for a game you play that I don't, feel free to mention the game title in this thread and I'll see if I can add it to the mix!
UPDATE: So my gaming icons are the neatest, tidiest collection I have, but here are the icons I've used for my apps that are not game-related. Some I just re-sized from the internet, some I made on my own. Screenshot
Download Spearoid Misc Icons
Those are some nice icons, don't have a lot of games so not much use to me though. Are these usable on home screen also or just in folders? I'm currently using Lightning launcher, not as modifiable as Launcher Pro, Go launcher, etc but it is lite and fast. For me the others just seem to bog down after awhile.

thanks for the kind words TXWolf1980.
As for the question from KJW979, these are just .png files. Any program that allows you to change the icon of a shortcut should allow you to use these....launchers and organizers like the folder organizer app I mentioned.
I've updated the OP to include icons for my apps that aren't for games. They are more random so I didn't think to upload them.

How to make widgets span 5 cells

Previously I've used the ADW launcher but have found every phone I've had become unmanageably slow over time. I've never been able to identify the problem but this time I'm trying to leave as many things stock as I can bear, starting with the launcher.
The default launches seems palatable enough but I can't workout how to resize widgets to fill the width of the screen.
Two of my favorite widgets to have on the home screen are "Fancy Widgets" (a clock/weather widget) and "Agenda Widget" (a calendar widget). Both these programs have several different sized widgets available but neither have widgets that are 5 cells wide. Is there a way to stretch the widget in the default launcher like one can in ADW?
Attached is an example of what my home screen currently looks like.
Thanks,
Slarti.
P.S.
I hope I'm asking this in the correct place.
(I wasn't able to find a Q&A section for G3 themes)
Uh, I've found that after releasing the agenda widget when dragging resize grippers become available on the corners.
This works perfectly to resize Agenda Widget to a 5x2 box.
Unfortunatly this doesn't work for Fancy Widgets.
It should be added as default feature

I think it only works for default apps in the phone.
