I'm looking forward to the gingerbread release mostly for the battery drain fix. If they can make this phone last 2-4 days without bleeding dry just sitting idle then I'd die a happy man...

Do u know if the next update has the lg camera app like froyo?

Don't get a smartphone if u want it last 2-4 days. That's asking the impossible. Or get a lame iphone 4. Id have to say its a beast in the battery department.

My old mytouch used to last 2.5 days... 24 hours should not be to much to ask. Currently it seems impossible for this g2x to go 12 hours.

My Nexus One with no sim card inserted lasted almost 5 days before finally quitting. Im sure if someone was able to tweak the polling timeouts and data consumption on idle we could get 2 days out of a phone easily (with no use)
You have to remember some people dont use their phones like us. This is also why I think iPhones are viewed as having amazing battery life. Android users love to play with their phones, the screen really never shuts off.

What's the point in having a phone with no sim card lasting 5 days? I can get the same use out of a brick. Not trying to dis but really, what's the point?
Posted from my G2X using the XDA Premium App.

no it doesn't like i said i already played with it and everything change to gingerbread

guys i dont think they'll make a phone with the batter last 2-3 days.. for reasons when your phone is working on the time even when its asleep... like web, facebook, email and more
i had a nokia back when their were popular and the battery lasted 2-3 days because it wasnt such a thing like wifi. facebook or other stuff that make your phone run all the time.... you can have an extra battery if you dont want to be without a phone when that battery drains...

you know what i didnt though about it... but he suppost to have that phone to test this week and when he bring it over ill take a picture with it.... and like i say the last time he got the phone to test the battery lasted 4 hours max and thats why their taking their time to resolve that problem

Im actually on day 3 but Im only running 500 Mhz and its under volted I just did this to see how long it would last with light use

Ive been using a vzw iphone 4 for the last couple days, and ill say, its battery is much better than the first g2x i had. I absolutely hammer that battery..with around 5-6 hours screen on time..and it holds up well.

I've read along time ago before the first iphone came out that the battery would be integrated into the whole device and that it would fit into unused "nooks and crannies" to give it that extra lasting power. The only downside, I believe is that you can't manually change out the iphone battery. So that's why the iphone has a greating operating time.
Although I'm glad LG and other Android manufacturers didn't limit us Android device owners with a non changeable battery, I believe that they can tweak the operating system to not "bleed" the battery when just on standby and just being idle without the user not actively using the phone.
Even with Wifi, data, bluetooth, GPS, screen display etc. disabled, after a few hours on non use it's not surprising to find the battery has drained sometimes up to 10% within 2 hours. This is unacceptable, and doesn't have to be this way.
Fix it google by disabling the "spyware" you implemented into the android OS.

Little ticked with this g2x battery, but you got a point with the iphone. Someone laughed at my battery, saying their iphone was so much better and all that meanwhile he hardly used the phone. Then I also have a co-worker that barely gets 5-6 hours without recharging as well.

This turned into ANOTHER battery thread.

Come on guys, I cleaned this thread. Why the rudeness??. The OP is just stating something he wanted to share with this community and you start posting about his grammar and other nonsense stuff.
Please, just focus in the discussion or just read the post (with no comments, if you are not going to contribute).
Thanks,

I know battery life is one of the big issues Gingerbread's supposed to fix. The SGS2 came out on 2.3.3. and the battery life has pretty much been abysmal. Samsung's releasing a 2.3.4. update next week. This explains why...
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Almo...uffering-from-power-consumption-issue_id19060
On the bright side, the battery *****ing on the Sensation forum hasn't been too bad and they're on 2.3.3. So maybe the OEM's can do some driver tweaking to get past the problem. It might just be something to keep in your back pocket should the LG update be on 2.3.3.

Is It Me Or Is Everyone Nitpicking About This Phone?

There isn't a day that goes by that people dont complain about this phone. It seems that every since the bleeding issue has been addressed people have been finding the tiniest things to get mad about. Some things can be fixed through software fixes/roms and some things you just simply return the device for if you can't fix it yourself. Some things are just your imagination lol. The device in my opinion is doing good to be out for almost a month. Maybe I'm just tired of hearing people let the negative outweigh the positive. Honestly if you didn't want the issues you should have waited a couple months after the launch. This is the first phone I bought on the day it launched. I expected issues...nothing is perfect but with these roms coming out its starting to become a perfect device in my eyes. Once Faux123 cooks us a kernel there shouldn't be any complaints left.

Totally agree
Yes, what is even more annoying is that each "issue" has two dozen threads dedicated to it. Making it impossible for anyone to make any headway.
How about a single "battery issues and solutions" thread?
A single "LCD bleed" thread.
A single "random reboot" thread.
Can you imagine how much better this forum would be? Maybe the mods could merge threads and do this, but it's probably too far gone at this point to implement some organization.
Currently, every time someone has one of those issues, they start a whole new f-ing thread.

Op - I know at one point you were planning on returning the g2x and wait for sensation. Glad that you have got one that doesn't have that much bleeding and you are happy with it

+1 everyone being WAY too picky.
100% of the people are under a FULL REFUND period still. Rather than b*tch and whine, return the thing and get something else. Why cause so much stress you have to whine on an online forum about it instead of just returning the thing for 100% your money back? Sounds like gluttony for punishment to me; would rather waste 5-10min complaining than rectify the situation and be done with it by getting something else. Tmobile has plenty of other good android phones.
The blacklight bleed is not that big an issue. Anyone running their backlight at 100% all of the time to complain about it has bigger issues like going 4 hours on a charge. No one should need to set the backlight at 100% for anything besides trying to kill your battery for some reason.
And if LG does fix the issue EVERYONE has a 1 year warranty on the phone despite the return period to swap it for a "fixed" one. There is absolutely nothing that warrants the dozens of threads about it blocking other meaningful discussions.

So far this has been the best Android device I have ever used and I have used many. Luckily I do not have a single problem with this phone. My WiFi works great and never fights with data. I get 30mbs download speeds and 10mbs upload speeds while on WiFi. I get 7mbs download and 2mbs upload on 4G. My GPS locks within 3 seconds and is accurate to 5 feet. I am running the stock software with the pre-dexopt patch using Launcher Pro and this phone flies through everything. It plays every game at high frame rates and Flash runs buttery smooth. I never thought I would use a Android phone that didn't lag but this phone hasn't lagged once. I can honestly say that I am extremely happy and in my opinion this is the best device available in the US right now. The only device that will dethrone it is the SGII which I will be getting and give the G2X to my wife. For those who think the Sensation will be better than the G2x.....HAHAHAHAHAHAH

This phone is far superior to my G1. As long as it just runs with no errors, I'm good.
.....or it could be that many of the first release devices had major issues and people have come to rely on the excellent folks here at XDA to help them. I know that many also moved from the HD2 to a full time android device and there has been growing pains.
I had a POS one, swapped it and am very happy now.
Thanks again to all great people here at XDA that have helped me make the adjustment from WM.
Reading is the key!
Just my personal opinion, but it does seem like they rushed out the 2.2 build. I worked as a sales rep for T-Mobile (today was my last day), so I had to see the dark side of the user experience more since people would come to me with troubleshooting issues. It just doesn't have the polish that I would expect from a 2.2 ROM. Most times it would fly, but occasionally it would hang when switching apps, be slow to respond, and sometimes outright crash for no reason. That said, almost all the stability issues I've had were fixed when I flashed the Gingerbread leak, and I didn't even wipe before flashing (I was naughty).
Seems to me like they intended to ship it with 2.3 but ran short on time. Instead they took the ROM they had for the O2x, got rid of their UI changes and hobbled it onto the G2x with the intention of updating it quickly. For that reason, I told the customers that came into my store with stability issues to wait for the update, but if it doesn't come before their return period is up (30 days here in California) to go ahead and return it. I fully expect that update to come before June 20th.

here's the kicker... You see, I'm a NEW android/smartphone user. This is my first smartphone. I came from using a razr just for phone calls, for the last 4+ yrs.
I thought the g2x is the next best thing to sliced bread. I love it. I got mine on the day it was launched, the first run of phones.. It has slight screen bleed.. so what. I would have never noticed it unless someone said something. I thought about returning the phone to get a different one because "heck, everyone else was complaining"... and I was like.. why would I do that? The phone works fine.. nothing wrong with it... and I'll probably get one that has more probs.
So I kept the phone. Battery life? As someone else said... on every single other forum where a new phone comes out... that's the #1 talked about topic. "Battery life sucks! Battery life sucks!" Now after talking to a few folks, do I see there is a problem for a few people.. absolutely. If you're phone has apps frozen, nothing running, you set it down on the table.. pick it up a cpl hours later and it has dropped 25%... ya, major problem. A few guys are seeing a drop down to a dead battery in 8hrs, with almost zero usage. A phone call or 2 and litearlly a few txt msgs. There is somethihng seriously wrong. BUT there are others that are using their phone all day long.. txting all day.. screwing battery usage with using ATK 30x a day, etc.. and they are complaining about battery life of 8hrs when they are using their phone like a computer. Stupid.
I have talked to multiple guys about their battery usage... they started off complaining... Then as we discussed in PMs... they admitted.. "Ya I guess I do use the phone a lot. I'm literally texting all day long." WTF!?!? Duhhhhhhhhhh
lol... I seriously believe that around 75% of the battery complaints are idiots using the crap out of their phone... and wondering what is going on...
/rant
I totally agree...way too much complaining. And I LOVE that we now have a thread for complaining about the complaint threads. I know, I'm twisty...but I love it.
I agree. I was just looking at the pictures posted in one of those other threads of the screen bleed. They are all mostly like mine. One, with a sqiggly line, did look really bad. But really, I do not see the bleed in everyday use. At all.( Edit: And I am a 100% brightness sorta guy) Someone was griping about how they can't see it in use, but boy when 2,3 comes out and that bar turns black....oh boy am I gonna be mad!! Wow.
Mine activated early yesterday morning. I am amazed at this thing...
I may totally regret saying this, but other than the screen bleed "issue", this thing has been perfect for me. Just lucky I guess.
No reboots, wifi seems to work perfect, great data speeds and clear crisp calls. So far. My call reception was awful on Metropcs.
Again I may regret saying this. I have seen a couple of posts where people say they started having issues after a week or so.
Am I the only one having a problem free experience?

Should I go to the Charge or Revolution?

Verizon offered me a Droid Charge or LG Revolution if I wanted for free for my Bolt because of the issues with the random restarts. Anyone know how good those phones are? I really love my Bolt but they and Htc both said it can be anywhere from 1-2 months to fix the issues and get the update out.
If you are upset with your bolt because of restarts and you are set of getting rid of it I would go with the Charge as the most comparable phone to the Bolt. LG's phone has a 5mp camera on the front which is a downgrade and i am not sure about memory on it but the charge has about the same specs. Personally I still think the bolt is the best of the three phones but I am not a big fan of the plastic feel of both the Charge and the Revo.
Final thoughts. I'd say root your bolt and stick it out. But if you want to change go with the Charge.
Yea I love my Bolt its the best but I might stick it out I'm thinking of going and checking the charge out today and see how it feels to me.

They won't just offer something like that. You'll be lucky to get a new phone if you are outside of the 14 days. I had to fight to what seemed like the death just to get a new replacement for my TB. I've learned my lesson on contracts. Full retail from here on out. If what wouldn't have started the process to leave and pay my 900 in etf's for my 4 lines, then I would have probably still gotten another junk refurb. I haven't even gotten close to getting a comparable warranty replacement for my TB.
I would stick with the thunderbolt. When I first bought the tb I was seriously getting restarts randomly about 10 times a day. Did a little research then did this.
Root phone. Load das bamf remix 1.7 rom with the kernel that came with the full rom dl. Downloaded lte onoff and left lte off until I actually needed it on for heavy downloads or streaming. Changed cpu settings to 1.2ghz with a governor of smartass.
I did not get a random reboot since. I started using bamf right when they released 1.6.3. I get 12-14 hour battery life on work days with light usage. Light usage is checking facebook notification every now and then. Texting back and forth here and there. Stream music to my bluetooth. And finally watching half an hour of sports or movies streaming on justin.tv.
I love this phone... Super amoled screen is bomb tho.

I would go with what others said and root it to load bamf. Been running bamf and have had no random restarts and loving the bolt.
That said if you really want to switch then I'd go with the charge. It feels kind of cheap, but its a phone that works well out of the box.
The lg revolution's software is kind of buggy and laggy from my experience
My Bolt rebooted 10 times yesterday.. Called Verizon and they are sending a new Bolt. They did not offer me a Charge or any other phone. I just hope my 3rd one is a charm.

All I did was tell them that I have had it replaced 4 time which I have for this and other reasons and said that I've done over 10 factory wipes and nothing worked and told them that customer service said that tech support could change the phone to something else or the loyalty department but if they did I would have to stick with it and then the guy transferred me to the supervisor and she said she would do it but if I did and they send me the other phone I can't go back even after they fix the issues with the Bolt. So I just had her put it in the notes so that I could think about it and that was it. I even went last night to a vz store to play around with the charge and see if she did put the notes and they were there.

Talked to them about this today. I have been losing about 20% an hour while plugged into USB (while using the phone). They just read the steps the computer shows them.
First I was told that I need a task manager to kill apps I am not running. I was also told if I have a lot of apps that could cause this too. I mentioned that apps in memory aren't using the processor, and therefore not causing battery drain. I was then informed that having a lot of apps could cause the phone to run slowly. I mentioned I wasn't having issues with the phone running slow, but an issue with battery drain. They then told me that the processor has to work harder when there are stalls due to having many apps. I then asked why there was so much memory on the phone for apps, and mentioned that working in development myself, have no idea how this could be. There was no more discussion about this.
I was then asked how much I charge my phone. I said I charge it over night to full, and then while I am using at my desk I usually have it plugged in to the computer by USB when I use the phone, which equals to about half to 75% of the work day. I was told this was too much and there was no response when I mentioned again that this was during use and it was still draining. My only other option was to let the phone die.
A few more things to check and they finally said they were going to send out a new one, but that they were required to go through those trouble shooting steps first. At that point it is obvious they repeat what they are told.

More people need to emphasis this. I'm so very tired of 'tech support' telling folks to use task managers and killers on Android.
so far running cm7 and now cm7 xboarder v1.0.1, I am getting anywhere from 17-23 hours of battery life on a daily basis. I am texting throughout the day, regular phone calls with at least a 45 min call every noight and regular pandora use for around 5 hours a day. After rooting, my battery life tripled and then cm7 and its variants are making it even better. just my 2 cents
X boarder?

id say my battery life is pretty good, cm7 RC1 and fauxs kernel. lasts me all day maybe more. moderate use too.
Ehh whenever im at the t-mobile store and they're always speaking nonsense, complete idiots.
I spoke to an escalation Rep at LG and she told me LG is okay with 25% drain an hour. Ha! L

My pet theory concerns the charger. Did a battery swap and still had issues. This was the week the phone was released. Started using my hd2 chargers and have had zero issues since. In reality there are probably several issues, but this is what has worked for me.
make sure you guys turn off led notifications...kills the battery in no time
Any idea how to turn it off? Looked everywhere for that setting

[Q] Users on the GB update, any random reboots?

Users that updated their G2X to V21E, you getting any random reboots or freezing? Please report in this post. Thanks!
Nope not yet and seem overall faster, but only time will tell.
Is Wifi fixed?
Yea, the true test will be a couple of days of uptime...

Been only a few hours guys. Take a day or 2 to test this out. Battery, WIFI, GPS, Reboots...etc
None so far... but the true test is when it's on my charger at night. So we will see...
None so far. Definitely noticeable increase in speed. No wifi or GPS issues yet either. Only bug so far is the 4g and signal status not switching to green indicating network connection to Google. Does on my N1.

my phone sometimes freezes or becomes unresponsive to my fingers...
I will be flashing back to 2.2. I never had a single reboot in the 4 months I've had the phone and now in 3 hours since I have updated, the phone has rebooted 4 times and froze twice. Also, my GPS would lock in 10 seconds with 20 feet of accuracy and now its taking a couple minutes to lock with 100 feet of accuracy. I really hope this isn't the finished product.

My phone froze once so far since I updated my g2x was once off the lucky ones with almost no issues I hope it dont continue

no reboots, notice the same white 4g deal, not turning green though. Has anyone got superoneclick to work with this yet?
Call me crazy but I don't notice anymore screen bleed after all mine was very minimal

Your crazy. ;-)
Is your phone set to Max brightness or is it on auto? If its on auto, I bet LG reprogrammed the code to dim the backlight more than it was before so people don't notice it as much. Mine has always been minimal but its still the same at max brightness. A software update ain't going to fix a hardware issue.

That jrwingate6 guy is some sort of shill poster,
claims to love the phone,
the next day he hates it,
next day he says he is leaving the forum because he is selling it,
next day he is complaining that he is keeping it because he can not sell it, next day he is whining that he never has had a problem with the phone,
next day he is complaining that GB is never coming,
next day he is saying the G2x is being recalled and will never be sold on T-mobile again,
next day he is saying he just updated to GB but it sucks so he is going to need to remove it
And he continues. if he is not some sort of paid corporate troll....its a pity because he is working it hard.
jrwingate6, I called you on this before....its fine....if I see your reply you can assume, I passed it off as gar-bauge and moved on.

Yeah, not a single problem with the update. No reboots (never had them to begin with). This may not be the final GB but so fast I'm completely satisfied.

OK, JR and I disagree more than we agree, and I'm sure he can defend himself but:
- claims to love the phone
He talks positively about aspects of it.
-the next day he hates it
He talks negatively about aspects of it.
-next day he says he is leaving the forum because he is selling it
He kept it because he got it free from T-Mobile and it does some things better than the Sensation.
-next day he is complaining that he is keeping it because he can not sell it, next day he is whining that he never has had a problem with the phone
I don't know where you pulled this from but it doesn't sound like JR
-next day he is complaining that GB is never coming
So?
-next day he is saying the G2x is being recalled and will never be sold on T-mobile again
Lots of rumors about this. JR tends to quote from a source though.
-next day he is saying he just updated to GB but it sucks so he is going to need to remove it
Too early to tell if others are going to experience the same thing.
Tom, you're the one that still believes the phone's not for sale on tmobile.com because it's so popular. You're no stranger to sharing and defending unique opinions so it's odd you chose to single out JR. You've gone after me too. I come here to hear different opinions. I can figure out which one's to believe without a self-appointed moderator telling me.

Battery life worse since 2.11.605.5

Am I the only one who's got worse battery life since the update?
I keep my brightness set low, bluetooth and GPS are off. My mail and Twitter are set to update manually. Weather updates every four hours, and I use only a few widgets (the weather clock and a few that toggle settings). I've got a solid LTE signal.
Before the update (and even after the 2.11.605.3 Gingerbread update that I'd got before Verizon and HTC pulled it), I could take my phone off the charger when I woke up, use it moderately, and still be in the green when I'd put it back on the charger at bed time. If I used it a bit more, maybe I'd be in the yellow, but I'd never had a problem going 18 hours or so on a single full charge.
Since the update, though, my phone can't get through a day without recharging in the middle. Even if I don't use it. Just sitting on my desk, untouched, I'm losing about 11% an hour.
Chances are the phone will re adjust through battery cycles. Also there are power saving options now if you go to the power setting. The efficiency setting works very well. Other than that I would wait a little longer before going about any tinkering.
And one more thing. You don't have a task manager do you? If so get rid of it. Android is incredibly efficient on managing its ram and tasks.

LTE? You're running 4G all the time? I wouldn't make it past late afternoon if I didn't toggle the LTE off most of the time and use CMDA (3G).
I'm stock and also having horrible battery life since the last update. Like 5 hours worth of battery with little use before I'm in the yellow. I'm giving up on 4G and switching over to 3G for good... maybe that will last longer as it did in the past
I'm tempted to do a factory reset

If my assumption is wrong on your knowledge of factory resets, i apologize and i'm not trying to insult your knowledge of these phones. That being said, factory reset won't allow you to revert to pre 605.5 software, as it just wipes the data completely and you stay on the same 605.5 you are on. If you are rooted already, make a backup and flash back an older release of the software that you are happy with. If you aren't rooted, now is a good time and then to revert back to past software haha
Hmm..sounds like someone should get an extended battery.I have one and never had a problem before or after gb.

Insult not taken... I'm well aware of what a factory reset is. And I don't care to root - been rooted before. Battery was much better before... so I figure its probably an app causing the drain - not playing nice with the update. A reset could remedy that.

Unfortunately, I don't care to have that over grown tumor on the back of my phone. My battery has been fine before so I know it's possible to use the stock battery and have it last throughout the day.

Nope. Never have, never will. I'll give it a few more days and see if, as you suggest, the battery doesn't readjust.

Yep. The area I'm in (just east of Pittsburgh) seems to have good coverage. I've never had to manually turn off LTE, and until the last update, I've never had trouble making it through the day.

I'm with mdeblaz. Getting through the day on the stock battery hasn't been an issue until the update. And I'll buy a new phone before I buy a ginormous battery for this one. I've had a couple of HTC phones now, and the Thunderbolt has been the most problematic for me. Maybe I'll sell it back to Verizon and get the Rezound. If the battery issue doesn't clear up on it's own, it's either going to be new phone or (for the first time since I started using Android phones) flashing a new ROM.
Anyone know a good Gingerbread ROM for the Thunderbolt that has Sense 3? I know I'm a minority, but I keep buying HTC phones because I actually like Sense.
BAMF Forever 1.09.
You may have an issue with the camera taking pics, try clearing data from the camera app. Like having a new phone for me.

That one looks pretty good. Is LTE working in it? Is it ok to use over the current stock software? Any guides for noobs who have never even rooted, let alone installed a custom ROM?

Some advice for noobs. Read read read. Do your homework. Read through the guides and walkthroughs on this forum (mainly in the development section). Learn now to root and learn how to recover BEFORE attempting to mod your phone in any way. Learn how to setup and use ADB.

As killa just said do read.
Going root is probably the only way to fix the thunderbolts stock problems.
I have had mine rooted since it was rootable and I have been loving my phone. I also use the stock battery and can get over 18 hours daily with wifi on at all times, lte and GPS when I'm not home. Those are the wonders of custom kernals and setcpu . I run AOSP but I have ran sense and Bamf forever is definitely the way to go for sense.
Good luck.
