Syncing facebook contacts - T-Mobile LG G2x

So I installed the bionix rom and for some reason it doesn't allow me to sync my Facebook contacts with my phone contacts. I've tried from the Facebook app
and it doesn't even have the option anymore. I've also tried from the accounts section and when I click on add it just goes back to the accounts screen. Please help!

It's gone in 2.3.X. HTC and Samsung somehow still do it via Sense and Touchwiz which is why their 2.3.X. phones still do it. Native Android, not so much.

Try this app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nloko.android.syncmypix&feature=search_result
Should do the trick.

Facebook contact sync does not work with Gingerbread at all. The functionality was purposely removed in 2.3. Your only option is a 3rd party app like the one mentioned above.

Facebook 1.3.2 with Fresh 3.1.0.2

When I was on 3.1.0.1, the Facebook app sync'd my contacts with their facebook profiles and it downloaded their profile pics, phone numbers, etc. When I upgraded to 3.1.0.2, it seems I lost that capability.
Looks like 3.1.0.1 came with FB 1.3.1 and that version had a "sync contacts" option in the settings, but the 1.3.2 no longer has that setting. Although, when I downgrade the FB app to 1.3.1, the sync setting shows up, but the functionality is broken.
Has anyone figured out a way to sync FB info with your contact list, using FB 1.3.2 and Fresh 3.1.0.2?
You can sync with facebook for sense. That's what I do. I disabled the Facebook app from syncing contacts because it was causing contact look up lag for me.

Alright, I see Facebook for Sense installed, but I'm not sure how to actually configure it to work. It's not listed in my App Drawer.
Nevermind, I found it under Settings>Accounts and Sync

Facebook sync in gingerbread.

Anyone get it to work on EB1.03? I know it works on CM7 but it's still waaaay too buggy for me right now to use as a daily.
Doesn't work on the leaked rom either. Doesn't even give the option in the facebook app to sync contacts.

If you read up about the launch of the Nexus S and Facebook, you will see this is because Google removed the sync ability of Facebook. Google is pissed because Facebook displays it's contacts in the address book without storing it locally. Previously, Google gave Facebook special API access to the contacts app, but they have removed it as of Gingerbread. Facebook will have to update their sync so it adds it to the shared contacts of the phone.

Google removed the ability in Gingerbread, use something like SyncMyPix if all you need is contact photos. If you need more than that I'm clueless.

[Q] ChompSMS / Facebook for Sense 3.5

Hi. Been using ChompSMS since i got the phone but since upgrading to 3.5 sense roms, contact pics no longer appear in the SMS list inside Chomp. It has to have something to do with the removal of Facebook for Sense. Any ideas how to fix this (other than reverting to 3.0 roms)

Sorry should have been clearer. I have the default facebook app and this syncs everything that previous Facebook for Sense app did. EXCEPT ChompSMS contact pics. Even if i click sync facebook pics from within ChompSMS it opens a facebook page with an error.

Same issue with WhatsApp...probably related to the apps...they'll need an update to read the contact pics from the Facebook app I'd say.
Use an app called photo unlocker from the market. Sorted everything from viber to whatsapp for me.

[Q] facebook sync fix for ics

Is there any way to fix it without using third party apps?
Another one with the same problem. Even a third party app would be fine for me... Any suggestion?

Its not broken. The Official Facebook application doesn't support Android 4.0 just yet so you will not be able to sync your contacts to your device. The only method is to use third party applications. I use Friendcaster Pro and it works really well.
Unfortunately, Till Facebook adds compatibility to the official application... you will not see your contacts sync to your device
Nope, the issue is between Google and Facebook, so we won't see contact sync fixed until Google and Facebook make an agreement or until a custom ROM fixes is. I forget the whole story, but I think Facebook doesn't use Android's contact API so when you sync Facebook contacts with your phone they all stay with Facebook and aren't stored locally on the phone. If you uninstall Facebook all your Facebook contacts go to. Google doesn't like that FB doesn't let you control and keep your FB data on your phone so they revoked Facebooks access to the API.
EDIT: heres an article about it: http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/22/google-disables-contact-sync-in-facebook-for-android-only-nexus/

You sorta proved my point. More or less its not compatibility with Android 4.0 but its the Nexus S. Once again Facebook will have to upgrade the application in order to make it compatible with the Nexus S. Only difference between what I said is instead of Android 4.0 its for the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus
Facebook contact data will continue to appear within the Facebook app. Like all developers on Android, Facebook is free to use the Android contacts API to truly integrate contacts on the device, which would allow users to have more control over their data.

Facebook never updated the app on Gingerbread. Facebook sync was included in custom ROMS because developers enabled it. Nothing to do with official support from Facebook. Until Google and Facebook sort this out, vanilla Android won't support contact sync, unless Facebook starts using the regular contact API
Friendcaster is not allowing me to login (whitepage)... Is it really compatible with ICS?

If you are OK with 3rd party apps, take a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20477937#post20477937

Contact pic syncing adventures

ROM: Android Revolution HD 6.4.0
Device: HTC Sensation 4g
Just wanted to put down my experiences and findings on the problems I've had with syncing my contact pics since I upgraded to an ICS ROM from my previous Gingerbread ROM.
Previous ROM: Android Revolution HD 3.6.13
With this ROM I had no problems with my contacts syncing Facebook pics and being used in 3rd party messaging applications. I use GoSMS and had no problems with the pics showing in the message list or when selecting a contact to message.
After upgrading to ARHD 6.4.0, based on ICS, my contact pictures were no longer showing in the GoSMS application message list, in message, or when selecting a contact to message. This was after doing a Superwipe and clearing all cache including Dalvik during the upgrade.
After upgrading the ROM I did not allow any of my applications to auto load and I did not restore them from my Titanium Backup that I had done before upgrading. I setup my Google account, went to the Market and made sure the Facebook app was up to date and setup that account. After allowing to sync I installed GoSMS and my other applications as I normally have when doing updates.
After setup and I couple of reboots I noticed some odd things. Facebook said it was synced and I saw the sync but my contact pics were missing in the GoSMS messaging app. After some testing I found that the pics showed in the stock Contacts and stock Messaging apps but not Go Contacts or GoSMS apps. I played around with removing all accounts and re-adding accounts multiple ways and even reset file permissions for the .png files in the /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/files/ directory, still no luck.
I finally installed FriendCaster while testing and found that when I had it sync it actually would sync in such a way that the Go applications showed them in the Contacts and SMS applications. I had to uninstall the Facebook app because I also found that with it installed, even though I told it not to sync contacts, it did something to wipe the pics from the aforementioned applications again.
So finally, after uninstalling the official Facebook app and re-syncing the contacts with FriendCaster, I was able to get the contact pics to show up in the Go applications I use to replace my Contacts, Dialer, and Messaging apps. I would rather use the official Facebook app because FriendCaster is lacking some of the functionality I use, but for now for me it's an acceptable workaround and I wanted to share.
Applications:
-FriendCaster (Free)
-Go SMS Pro
-Go Contacts EX
-Go Dialer EX
I currently use the contacts from Facebook for HTC Sense for clear contact pictures as those from Facebook for Android are grainy. As Facebook for HTC Sense is removed in ICS and Facebook for Android sync and ICS don't work well together this results in the problems you named. Another workaround is Google Contact Sync, an application you have to run on your PC in which you can link Gmail and Facebook accounts and sync pictures.
I just delete the "files" folder under /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts - then reboot and sync. That at least works with FB for HTC Sense & Twitter for HTC Sense. Not sure about the rest.
