I'm looking for a new phone and att has nothing that is worth buying right now. Will I be able to make calls on a nexus s with my att sim in it. I mostly run my phone on wifi but when I'm out I just want a descent phone.
Thanks

It has to be approved by the FCC/DOJ/etc. I seriously doubt it'll get approved. Sprint is fighting this. And no, it wouldn't be a stupid idea. It's a good phone, people are over exaggerating about this purchase.
The other alternative if I was to make a phone purchase would be the G2x probably but that phone isn't unlocked so... Nexus S is purely unlocked from the beginning including ability to unlock the bootloader.

There are checkins to the aosp repo that reference an at&t radio (kb2) for the crespo (ns), so there is hope if you have the patience to see if it becomes a reality.

An ATT version is coming very soon from solid rumors, so you really should just wait a few weeks to get the proper working version if it comes out.

Don't know either but my fingers are crossed. My guess is that aosp is a little too "open" for Verizon's likes.

Verizon likes to junk up their phones with all kinds of bloatware.
verizon LTE + nexus would be a smash hit...

Agreed. Verizon won't pass up a chance for extra revenue that Blockbuster & similar crapware can generate.

They bent over backwards for Apple because they have been kicking themselves since they passed on the iPhone the first time. They saw the chance to steal a big amount of AT&T iPhone users and jumped. Now if they actually stole a lot of AT&T iPhone users is a different matter. I don't think they stole that many so far. I think when the next iPhone comes out, they will see a big influx.

What do you mean? Google phones are MADE for rooting and flashing custom ROMs.... and in fact the Nexus 1 and Nexus S both have CM7.

I said what I said because Verizon changed their closed ways for a iphone... Not sure why they wouldn't do it for an Android phone. The nexus phones are sellers as well and if they really want to take away users from all carriers (not just at&t) they need to have one in their line up.
They will be able to take advantage of having the fastest network (while they still can) with a 4G nexus phone.
Talk about killing it! They would rape the competition having an iPhone and a 4G nexus phone.
The time is now if they are smart.

lol whatever the reason is, it's one of my pet peeves. I find this type of branding an annoyance, I would have been fine with it saying "LG." But the T-Mobile logo just distracts me, I'd like to have it removed. But since the procedure is a bit expensive, case closed
Sell your phone and buy the G2x from wind, it says "LG" instead of "T-Mobile".

I wonder how strong his hate is. Maybe he did not notice the tmo when he purchased the phone or was disoriented for various reasons. Maybe he intended to purchase a sprint phone and became confused. An odd post to say the least. I am interested to see if he spends the $$$ to change it out.

I am with you on this. I am looking at an unlocked HTC Amaze. It isn't a T-mobile Amaze, it is a HTC Amaze.
When I drive my Ford Escape, I am driving a Ford Escape, not the Joe Blogg's car dealer Escape. I always remove dealer branding from vehicles and wish I could do it with the HTC Amaze. I also don't wear clothing with huge logos on them.
At the moment I have a Samsung Nexus S 4G, even that has too much branding on the back it says both Google and Samsung. It should say one or the other.
My G2x came without the T-Mobile branding

And throttling, taking good old plans away, "droid" crap, Update's that brake flash player on 4.0 NOT 4.1 and modding the phone so that it asks for wifi 24/7/365/the rest of time.
I was really pissed at them before and now getting better some what. I hope that I can drop my AT&T line some time, but that's less likely now becuase I get very good "4G" or H+ (3-4 out of 4 bars every were there) at were I work with 5Mbs+ DL vs 1-3 bars of verizon "3G" as slow as sprint like 500kbs slow.( That's with both my razr and now my S3 by the way)
Any way flash player better still work or I will likely be going to WP8 for some of flash player to work. ( never did think that was going to happen. LOL)
