Wtf can't update market - T-Mobile LG G2x

Any one else have this issue???? All of a sudden I go to update my aps and it goes through the usually process and says successfully updated. Then it says "installing...." and its doesn't stop. I waited fifteen min...still installing. So I close market, kill process, clear market memory and next thing the same aps are back to update..... AGAIN. LOL any one have any answers?
"If Satan lived in heaven he'd be me.... "

Any one? Any suggestions? I turned all my bloat ware back on (never deleted any thing) and still all my updated apartment just keep "installing". I go to reboot, and the apartment really appear needing to be updated. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm rooted on stock rom fyi

This is why I won't root. The risks outweigh any benefit you get from rooting. Android as an operating system is already so vulnerable to hackers and malware. It's nice that the devs on this forum are working hard to make ROMs, but you never know if you can trust them for sure.
I was just watching Google i/o 2011 on youtube and one of the devs was raving about implementing better 3D and openGL for android, then it hit me that microsoft put out a warning to disable openGL because it was a security risk. Makes you wonder why Google would implement it in their Chrome browse and for what reasons. I mean it's been in the news lately that top level government officials gmails are being hacked.
Anyway maybe you got hacked? I'd just unroot, reset everything back to stock then just wait for the official Gingerbread update.

Hacked? LOL doubt it. This has nothing to do with root. You should root your phone if nothing less for the sole purpose of installing Ti.backup pro. The only fail from root is user/noob error. Root is the best thing you could do to your phone. Now... installing dif. roms .... that for sure stay away from. As usually I digress.
So the issue has been fixed. It was the AP auto starts. Great AP but I had disabled most programs so they wouldn't open on start up. Guess doing that to market fks it up. And to poster above me S1c is safe and easy. Unrooting works I have already rooted and unrooted and rerooted with S1c. I personally will not be flashing any roms until there is at least. A year of decongestant and all bugs are worked out. Root? Aaawww hells yeah!

how to UN-root?

Well, I just realized that I jumped into flashing my G1 and getting root access before I was ready/before it was necessary. So now I want to go back to RC33 official firmware, but now since i'm rooted, the official RC33 update.zip file won't work. So i now have a rooted RC29 official firmware, how do I unroot and get back up to RC33?

Have you heard of the word search?Do some work then being lazy.
Funny. I searched google, came across 2 threads of this very same nature filled with people telling us "lazy folks" to google and search. I also searched the forums directly, same threads and no other threads I could find related to this. And on google, I tried multiple search terms and phrases and noone had a definitive answer, if at all.
So please stop saying "search and stop being lazy" and just help, because you don't know if we all have tried to search or not. Perhaps if you help someone, we can actually come up fruitful in our search results.

here are those threads in question:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478856
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478873
and i couldn't simply reply to the threads because the mods were so quick to close them. Seems like everyone here has something against helping people restore to factory than upgrade to custom.

Well, seeing as how I already stated that I did indeed try to google using multiple search terms and phrases, then you might assume I already came across that result. I did indeed come across that result and I've already tried that method. If you would actually read instead of being so quick to judge my ability to find information, upon trying to reinstall paid apps and manually updating to RC33, it failed, meaning that the phone is somehow still rooted and that I'm not sure what to do at this point. I'm stuck at what looks to be like the official RC29 with no way to manually update and I cannot get my paid apps off of the market still (nor are they showing up).
Hell, I'm not even sure if this pertains to the fact that the phone was rooted or not, but it certainly isn't what happened before I rooted (where I was able to successfully update to RC33 and download paid apps from the market as well as view them)
Now please, read that and see that I have tried all that I can from the little information that is out there. Don't think that I don't appreciate the dev community here, but you tend to only care and only help when it comes to flashing phones, not restoring them.
why bother
it doesnt make a darn bit of difference, it just taking out crap that may in the future stop you from doing somthing you want to do, the phone doesn't work any differently, rooted or un rooted, I just can't think of a reason why somebody would WANT to go back, this is probably the cause of the resistance you feel, not a conspiracy to keep rooted phones, just that way...ROOTED
I'd say just don't bother and don't go typing in commands like a madman, and everything will be OK.
it seems that JF is dedicated to continue his work on the test signed updates, why do somthing that makes no difference? Just be lazy, or spend that time reading up on common linux commands.

its not that at all man. i cant even get my paid apps back. i bought the apps because i really liked them and used them on a daily basis, so i dont want to just give them up just so i can say my phone is rooted. Thanks for the reassurance though, but until i can do soemthing really useful with root access (installing other OSs) thenim sticking to official unmodified and updated firmware
paid apps and rom flashes/upgrades
im not sure you will get your paid apps back, but little is known about how the paid apps work.
they may be keyed to imei, but it doesn't seem so or you wouldn't have had a problem, my theory is that there is no security ie: 1 guy pays and anybody can use the copy of the app he paid for, I dunno and I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT PIRACY.
I am just theorizing on how your paid apps will or will not follow your phone after flashes.
it should just keep a list of what you d/l'd attached to your gmail login, I like to see more talk about how the apps are secured, NOT ABOUT HOW TO CIRCUMVENT the security, but how the apps are tied to the buyer/phone/rom installed.
I swapped apps from one g1 to another via astro and the sd card but they were all free, it just so happened to be the day the paid apps debut.
no piracy talk, just any facts you may have as to the above questions

[Q] All My Questions Answered w/ Update

Hey there everyone!
I have to say up front, that I haven't had any of the major issues that everyone is going on and on about. I had the one time occurrence of the barrage of "Force Quits" that happened the moment I got it out of the box... But in less than 30 min, the 3389 Update was available and I haven't had one issue since.
The only 2 things that I was worried about was the ability to watch Youtube, which I found that as long as you view the original "Desktop" version of youtube then you have no problems... The Desktop version was a simple click of a link at the bottom of the Youtube Mobile Page... Fixed... Done...
(My only REAL Question)
The other problem that I had, and am still having, is simply trying to get my Gmail account to unload in the "E-Mail" application that came with the G Tab. It says to check my incoming mail settings, which I did, and still can't quite figure that out... Any ideas?
Other than that though, this thing has given me nothing short of a good experience. I'm not too savvy with the MOD aspect of everything, but I would think that if I put that on my system, that I would have the mods themselves to blame for anything that went wrong..... And I certainly wouldn't want to jeopardize my Warranty just to have gmail pop up 3 weeks faster than Viewsonic can pay it's employees to pump out updates.... I'm giving them time, as I would hope any customer base would give me if I were the manufacturer.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the cool little gadget... That's how I see it. It has a crap ton of potential, and I'm willing to watch this infant grow without boosting it full of steroids and blackmarket performance drugs... Last thing I want is a third arm that doesn't work growing out of it's face............
Quote:
"For this guide, it is not necessary to root the Viewsonic G Tablet in order to flash CyanogenMod. You can simply install ClockworkMod Recovery & continue on.
WARNING: INSTALLING CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY ON THE VIEWSONIC G TABLET WILL VOID THE WARRANTY."
(I would imagine though that all of this stuff can be erased? If it voids the warranty, then why in the world would anyone ever put it on there if it can't be undone...?)

[Q] Shouldn't Bother Rooting?

I'v jailbroken itouches several times flawlessly so the concept of rooting is not new to me. I understand what has to be done and what it does for the device, positively anyway. I'v had the G2x for about 2 weeks now and i'm thinking about rooting it, but i don't want to do it without knowing all of the cons. I know i would be voiding my warranty, and that i might not get direct updates from my service provider anymore. I'v also read a lot about people rooting it without error, but for some reason after rooting the phone crashes. i took the risk of jailbreaking my itouch because i had it for 2 years already when i decided to jailbreak it, and because it's basically still just an mp3 player. This time it would be a phone which is more important to me. im also aware that gingerbread is coming out soon, so if someone could explain to me what the negatives are or at least point me in the right direction if this thread is already answered i would appreciate it.
With my phone, unrooting is easy if you know what you're doing, so I don't worry about the warranty part. The usual horror stories about rooted phones are usually due to user error. If you don't know what you're doing and don't fully read the instructions, you can end up doing some damage that is either difficult or impossible to fix. I think some people root their phones just for wireless tether, ad blocking, screenshots, or some "root only" app they see in the market. Then they decide they want to change their status bar icons or something and flash something that was not made for their phone or the stock rom... or whatever the situation may be.
My point is, if you know what you're doing you'll be fine. You should be able to go back to stock, unrooted - I'm not familiar with your phone, so I'm speaking in generalities. There are already Gingerbread roms out for many devices that haven't received official updates yet, even for phones that will never receive an official 2.3 update.
The only downside of rooting that I can think of is that you won't be able to put your phone down. Ultimately the choice is yours. If you don't want to put the time into learning, don't do it. It's a ton of fun though, I couldn't imagine not being rooted... there's so much more available for rooted phones.

Google Pixel 2 Root Help

Hello, XDA Developers.
I joined this forum yesterday, and to be honest, I am a complete Android noob. I got my first Android phone around 6 months ago, and, as you know thanks to the title of this thread, it was a Google Pixel 2, a solid way to dip my toes into Android for the first time, especially after being an Apple sheep for many years in the past. Anyway, I found my interest in rooting coming from me wanting to install a custom icon pack to my Pixel Launcher. I found Pixel Launcher Mods, but discovered it required root. I learned what rooting was, and how to do it. That's not the problem, though.
I've heard tons on what rooting can do negatively to your phone, but using a Google-branded phone, I'm not worried in the least about getting my phone bricked nor am I worried about blowing my warranty (since Google doesn't take away warranty due to rooting). What I am worried about is security.
I use many apps on my phone which are very personal and important, like my AMEX app, Google Pay, and PayPal. Knowing that rooting is risky in the security department, I'm very nervous to make the jump due to exposing those very applications and all of that sensitive information.
I've heard that installing Magisk and TWRP somehow keeps me safe from this kind of risk, but I don't quite understand how. I really need to understand why and how Magisk keeps me safe before I root, since I know that if I don't, I'll have insane paranoia in the back of my head, which will completely ruin my experience rooting.
I've also heard that Netflix and apps similar to it simply do not function. I am a Netflix subscriber and sometimes watch on my phone, so this is kind of concerning for me. Apparently Magisk comes to the rescue again, but I still don't know why!
One other thing (second last one, I promise) I heard was that I can get purchases in the Google Play store for free. If someone can leave a link for me on how I can do that, it would be pretty awesome.
The fourth and final 'thing' as I've been calling them, is that I won't get OTA updates. With some of my own research, I found that I actually do get these updates, however, they break my root. I've heard of things like OTA RootKeeper, but when I looked it up, all I found were forum posts from 2012, which had me slightly worried. This coupled with the fact that Android P was coming out so soon had me bear the question: update or wait?
Thank you so much if you took the time to read this long and confusing thread. I tried to lay it out in the least confusing way as possible. As you can see, I'm really new to all of this, and it would be great if you guys could help me out and answer some of the questions above.
Take care! I look forward to your responses.

First of all: Good choice and welcome to the community.
1. I can't exactly tell you how Magisk would keep you safe but I can tell you that it is always in your hands to keep your device and data safe. What I mean by that is that you should use your brain while using your phone. Don't download any "fancy apps" which promise to make your battery last longer or something like that. Don't click any shady links etc.
After all you are not more vulnerable just due to rooting but apps could do more harm.
2. Netflix or other apps will work with "Magisk Hide" which is built in feature of Magisk.
3. You are talking about illegal warez which are not allowed on XDA. Anyways apps cost between 1 - 5 $ and are often on sale. So there should not be any need to tinker with warez.
4. There is a guide here to keep Root with Magisk even on OTA. But for this to work you don't have to have TWRP flashed to your device (at least that's what I think).
EDIT: I'm using different Android phones since 2011 and always rooted them and didn't ever have any problems with security.

I would also like to welcome you to the community. Good choice crossing over from Apple and you made a great choice as far as phones go. Xda is a grea place to start and there are amazing people on here that can help you get to where you want to be.
Some background on myself, I have owned an android phone since 2010 and have rooted every android phone I've had since then. Root is the way to go and it opens so many doors for android devices.
1. Don't let a security risk scare you away from rooting, as long as you are smart with your device then you will be ok. You heard right in that Magisk keeps you safe when rooting. Magisk implements security protocols that allow our devices to pass safteynet checks. Safteynet is what android uses to tell apps that your device is secure and hasn't been tempered with. Things like Google Pay use safteynet checks in order to function. Some apps also won't function if it detects Magisk on your device. This is simply because the app knows your device is rooted and doesn't want to function as it knows it has been tampered with. Magisk has a feature called magiskhide that hides itself from certain apps being able to see it. So that, in a nutshell, is how Magisk tricks your device into thinking it hasn't been tampered with. Magisk also prevents apps from getting root acces to your phones that you don't want to authorize. Everytime an app initially requests root access, Magisk will prompt you with a popup asking if you would like to authorize said access.
2. As far as security goes. Google releases security patches once a month for our devices. if you run a custom ROM then most devs will incorporate these updates in to their ROMs and push them out to users. So when you root, your device will no longer update OTA, you must do it yourself. Even if you run stock Google firmware, you must still manually push updates to your phone (plenty of guides on how to do this). As long as you stay on the most recent Google security patch, then you have nothing to be afraid of.
3. Free apps. Yes, there are illegal markets out there that upload stolen apps but these come with a high security risk and are not allowed to be discussed on Xda. When you install apps from markets like these you run a high security risk. Some apps are made to look like other apps and have different permissions and can have access to parts of your phone that you don't know about. I would never recommend installing apps from markets like these. Stick to the Play Store and support the devs.
4. Like I said in #2, you will not get OTA updates anymore since you are rooted. Yes, in the past with other devices, some devs have come out with apps that allow OTA while maintaining root, as of right now there is not such thing for our phones. Manually pushing updates to our phones is not hard with TWRP. TWRP allows you to backup everything, wipe everything, and install new ROMs/updates. When you install a new ROM it will wipe everything as far as your os goes but will not wipe your storage (pics, music, files) So when you update a new ROM I highly recommend you get an app called Titanium Backup. TB will backup all your apps+data, that way when you install a new ROM/update, all you have to do is restore the apps with TB and its like nothing changed. It can even backup things like call history, texts, wallpaper selection, wifi passwords, etc. Definitely a must have for rooted devices.
Dive in, get involved, but please do your research before just spouting off questions in this q+a thread. People are here to help you but 9/10 times your question has probably already been answered. Read the rules of Xda and happy rooting.

may 2020 update

hi
https://developers.google.com/android/images
Seems a little heavy for security only but I didn't find any descriptions when hitting the usual sites seeking the same. Guess we'll see...
Updated to may 2020 release and it broke my face unlock. had to call google for a replacement.......
But i still tried fixing this and i believe i may have found a fix, it worked for me anyway. I have an unlocked device so I already had the bootloader unlocked. I reverted the firmware all the way back to the very first release 10.0.0 (QD1A.190821.007, Oct 2019) and was able to set up device with a working face unlock on that release. Make sure to do a factory reset within the OS. After the device is completely set up I flashed the newest May 2020 update but I removed the -w from the flashall.bat so it would not wipe the device. I now have it working face unlock.
Just thought Id share. If anyone else has this issue hopefully this will help..
^^ this did not work for me ..
face unlock worked perfect for me
Is this caused by Android 11 DP3 face unlock broke
I did not have face unlock or any other issues, all went as usual. Install done via full imagine with wipe removed.

That's odd. I had the exact same problem with my 4 XL, and the April update. Google replaced it. I know a couple other people had the same issue, and got theirs replaced as well. I wonder what's is going on....

Welcome to to NWO. I turn off my location services now. Google is already handing over all our locations data to big brother globally now. They’ve betrayed all our trust and privacy.
If you really want to know what will happen here, all the test runs are taking place in Wuhan. Their police forced them at check points to install a Covid tracking app. They’re currently going to test all 11 million residents there.

Just remember that is China he is talking about and that stuff is really going
on there. Of course it is, they have a communist government. I watch the special on it a while back and it was crazy how they had everyone like literally locked down. And yes they did have the tracker and there is a lot of shady stuff.. their internet homes is controlled so even their Facebook accounts they aren't allowed to talk about certain things or people have disappeared. Like when they try to investigate what's going on there or oppose anything at the government says. I mean of course they're locked down is very extreme and a bit too much but it also helped them to get it under control and to s certain extent, that is really the only way to.
Our "stay at home orders" were a joke and now they are already over. But anyways, so yeah just normal communism going on over there. They are just being China. It is not a "test run" for the rest of the world. We already know that Trump isnt very keen on following what other countries are doing anyways. We saw first hand how China and Italy quickly got overrun by the coronavirus and had to lock down. we saw how highly contagious it was and how fast it could spread, especially when nothing was done about it. They only way to stop it was to lockdown and we saw how that helped. Trump by no means wad going to follow. He still to this day won't even wear a mask and we all know why, because he associates it with all of the Chinese people wearing them and he's a racist, to just be blunt. We barely did much to try and control the outbreak anyways, I honestly wish things would get more strict here and maybe we would make some actual substantial progress. We just need to stay focused on the real things that are going on and try not to get lead astray by conspiracies and such that will only cause us more unnecessary anxiety and fear.
Ok so I have a good segue, so I just rooted and I'm on DP4 and tried to use magisk modules and had to reflash the system to get it working again.. so there's no known magisk modules that are working on DP4 right now?

They only way to stop it was to lockdown and we saw how that helped. Trump by no means wad going to follow. He still to this day won't even wear a mask and we all know why, because he associates it with all of the Chinese people wearing them and he's a racist, to just be blunt. So yeah let's get back to the topic. Remember there's always someone who has to push it to the next level.. but don't feed into it. We barely did much to try and control the outbreak anyways, I honestly wish things would get more strict here and maybe we would make some actual substantial progress. We need to worry about the real things that are going on, like that, rather than spreading conspiracies that don't even make sense and confuse and push anxiety and fear on others. Very distracting and malelevent.
Ok so I have a good segue, so I just rooted and I'm on DP4 and tried to use magisk modules and had to reflash the system to get it working again.. so there's no known magisk modules that are working on DP4 right now?

Well for Google sending an update soon for an embedded Covid tracker is concerning. Especially since they’ve giving this information over to our local governments, CDC, and WHO.
I recently reverted back to full stock, and relocked my bootloader. If and when this new Covid NWO tracking system gets pushed to our phones, I’ll unlock again, root, and delete all that NWO crap. We are the resistance aka, “”.
