[Q] Latest Tiamet slowing down my xoom? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Prior to the riptide kernel, I was seeing benchmarks of something like 4200+ @ 1.5ghz on my wifi xoom. Emulators ran amazingly well and I had no issues
Now with the latest kernels, my system speed seems fine, but I'm getting benchmarks of like 2700 and my emulators are very choppy. FPSE is nigh unusable.
Wifi xoom, upgraded to 3.1 via the method that didnt involve a wipe. What's up?

Lag on 3.1

Anyone having lag issues on the new update?
My home screen lags and games run at half the fps than what they did before.

have you got setcpu installed?
I removed setcpu and the problem went away.
Where you overclocked prior to the update?
Yeah since 3.1 I miss my 1.5ghz heh. I'm sure we'll be back up and running (and probably even faster) soon!
lag on 3.1
I installed BRDs hc3.1 last night and both quadrant and linpack scores have plumetted. Quadrant down to 1635 from 2020 (at 1ghz) and linpack down to 33 from 62.... I'm not sure what is going on. Anyone else see the same?

[Q] G Tablet Freezes

My g tab is an amazing device as all you can attest to. However ive been running cm7 and now cm7.1 RC for a month now. I get random freezes constantly. Itll boot up and then once i get to using the tavle whether scrolling through a video or the app drawer itll freeze up.And can't do anything unless I do a hard reset ive searched endlessly for answers but got nothing ...please help..
All I can tell you is this. Cm7 has an extremely high volume of reports of problems. I'm amazed its still so popular.
I'm running CM7.0.3 stable for Netflix sake. Time to time I got freezes in Dolphin HD 5.6.
Sometimes I just wait and Dolphin would FC or tablet would go into reboot when I tried to put it in hibernation.
Well, as far as I know and my research on this and another problems - it's a nature of Android OS (not mature OS and buggy software for it).
Though I never got freezes from Netflix.
PS: might be overclock CPU to 1.4GHz is too much for your tablet. Try lower it to standard 1Ghz.

nope. I'm running calk clem and have not had a single freeze. Calk and clem really struck gold with this one.
I run 7.0.3 and it has been the most stable Gingerbread ROM I have tried. No problems at all and much better battery life - Love it!

[Q] WiFi Stock 3.2.1, Rooted 3.2.1 or Tiamat ROM?

I am new to the xoom and was curious which most prefer? I have a DX and bounce between Apex and MIUI, both are better than stock. Why would I want to put a custom ROM on my xoom? Which is preferred and why?
I really love the Tiamat ROM. It let's you overclock and has some other neat features you can read about. The OC really makes the Xoom run much better. Just an FYI, I tried to go 1704 Mhz but had the tablet reboot on me once. I toned it down to 1600 MHz and have never crashed since. 60% CPU boost for free!
Thanks,
What about battery life? Does the battery lasts longer on stock than on tiamat?
I'd be interested to know about the battery life as well. Im running the stock rooted 3.2 on my wifi xoom, and theres been no increase or decrease in battery life since doing all I had to do to root it
Battery life will be different for everyone even if you have 2 units and do exactly the same with them, results will differ.
I was running 221 fine, 222 seems to have given me a few hiccups, I've gone back to the stock rom's and upgraded it as far as the system update will take me, then dropped Clockworld recovery on there and the Solarnz Universal Root and tbh for what I use my Xoom for theres not really any difference and I get access to some market apps on stock that I wasnt getting on the Tiamat ROM's.

[Q] rooted xoom not overclocking???

Hi, i have searched the forums, but haven't been able to find an answer, simply put i don't believe my xoom is overclocking. I have been testing it with an app called neocore, but have tried quadrant as well. It doesn't matter if i am at 1000 or 1700 Neocore always says that my xoom runs at between 34-36 fps, which is the same as when it was bonestock, quadrant is the same. No change in animation speed or results no matter what i have set the clock too. I currently have eos nightly 77 for 4g on my xoom, I was using the stock kernel that came with the rom, and recently downloaded the.3.0.5 tiamat overclock kernel, which after flashing think it was the same(I am a noob). I was originally trying to use android overclock to adjust my settings, now have completely uninstalled it and using eos's settings, no change. What am i doing wrong, or have missed?
Thanks for any help you can give me
For increased smoothness in animation, etc, I believe it is the overclocked gpu that helps as opposed to the cpu. Not all the eos kernels are overclocked. Quadrant score appears to be meaningless. Believe me, the eos kernels permit overclocking. What governor are you using? Is your setting stable?
I have it currently at interactive, after you mentioned the governer, i put it to performance and ran the neocore benchmark to see what would happen, 38.2. Well if it requires a gpu overclock that would make sense that i am not noticing a difference with the apps i am using. But raises another question, what is a overclocked cpu good for? More apps running at once? My overclock is ALLOT more stable with 77, i was previously on 74. Before it would get glitchy allot more often, and random reboots on anything above 1000. 1400 and i was having to watch the temperature, 1500 seemed to work the best, but still got random reboots (still better than what I got on honeycomb. I still get glitches here and there on 77, but still have yet to get a.random reboot.
Unrelated to my topic, thank you so much for your guide to rooting and romming, i had read a couple others and hemmed and hawed about whether to do it, even though my mouth watered about the benefits, your guide made me clap my hands together and say "let's do this"
I went back over the kernel I downloaded and flashed, it is the team tiamat overclocked gpu 3.0.5 kernel that was realeased 2/19/2012... sorry, this stuff is new to me so I am learning as i go along

No problem...the EOS nightlies are on a newer kernel, but I think the lastest don't have oc gpus.

[Q]-Video performance

Hello all. I'm a recent convert to the transformer from an HP touchpad. I'm using the stock transformer setup that has been rooted via the one click method. I'm using Kernel-ICS-V21.11-OC1700-fb_607 as my kernel and it's OCed to 1400. I also tried this on 1200 and the stock 1000. I have an app from time warner that lets me watch my stations on the tablet. On my TP, it runs well. It's like looking at HD TV. On the transformer, (skype and groove IP were loaded at the time I admit), the video is choppy. It's like . . a comparison between an onboard video card and a dedicated. I'm also a tad shocked to see at the same OCing, my TP has outscored the transformer on AnTuTu. Shouldn't the transformer be performing better? I don't mind the similar benchmarks but I'm really shocked at the video performance. Is there a ROM I should try that might be better? I'd really like to see the video of the TWC app at least being equal to how it is on my TP.
Would something like the android revo rom with its forced GPU rendering be better? I do admit the TP has chainfire loaded but my transformer does not. Could that be it?
Certainly give a custom rom a try, does the choppy playback happen on apps such as Youtube etc? I'm on Revolver and i haven't had any video playback issues but I cant say i remember playback issues on stock ether
You might also try to flash the new nvidia codecs. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24534878 guevor has a link to it in that thread.
Sent from my EPAD using xda app-developers app
I'll make a back up and try the nvidia codecs and see how the performance is on something like netflix, YT or crackle.
Well with the new codec, "the set IO to busy under interactive" tweak and increasing the OC up to 1400, my AnTuTu went up about 900 or so. Prior to all the tweaks, I checked YT and Netflix. They ran great. Even after the tweaks, the TWC app still has some stutter especially during motion. I noticed swiping animations seem to be really fast now. It really does seem to be performing well except for this app. I even killed a live wallpaper and some tasks just to see if it was causing issues and it didn't help.
Installed Android Revo as my ROM but sadly, I can't test right now. TWC released a new app so we have to wait for somebody to remove the root checks again.
The android revo ROM (or possibly the updated version from TWC) is now performing as it should. As a matter of fact, it looks beautiful. If anybody lost their ability to use the app due to the new update, check out this thread here.
