I will click on a non-mobile link, however when the page pops up the URL switches to the mobile version. This doesn't happen too often, but it's annoying when it does.
How do force the Xoom to non-mobile?
It's almost like the websites I go to think the Xoom is a phone and automatically force it to view their mobile version.
There's several threads about this already. There's two options: Use a different browser (Dolphin HD works well) or use the debug code (you'll have to do it every time you restart the xoom). Search the forums for the debug code.

Would I have to be rooted to flash the uastring?
Go into the browser and enter "about:debug" into the address bar. Press the menu button in the top right and select "Settings". You should see a "Debug" item in the list on the left, select that and you'll see you can configure your "UAString" (or User-Agent String, I forget the exact wording). Change it to "Desktop" then reload the page in question.
As someone else mentioned you will have to do this whenever you restart your XOOM.
careful flashing a desktop uastring. I boot looped my xoom with one that supposedly worked for wifi xooms. Mine wasn't stock, so i chalked it up to that. In the end, dolphin hd is a much better browser than stock.

Actually this option is remembered even when you restart, if you are on 3.1

When in the browser, you can use the quick search key in 2 ways:
1. Tap it once and it becomes a URL search - doing autocomplete via google for the uRL you want
2. Tap it a second time and it becomes the Quick Search Box that searches your local stuff and google
The only odd behavior is going from the URL search to the Quick Search the keyboard stays on the URL keyboard so you have to hit the 123 key to get your space bar.

.... and, if you HOLD the search button, you can do voice recognition for searching and some other functions -- i.e., "call jane doe" or "email john smith", things like that. Quite cool! Not sure of all the possibilities there yet.

That doesn't work for me. Do I need to install something to enable it to accept commands? Like Voice Commander? In fact, the only thing the search button will search is the web.... whether I type it or speak it. I've enabled the search phone settings in settings/search menu. Something's screwy with my phone.

When you hold the search button down, the little "Speak Now" pop-up doesn't even appear? Or, is it there but nothing seems to work?
UPDATE: Also, it seems that only "call ..." works, I can't get "email" or "text" to work -- but then again, since you really need the keyboard for those functions, maybe that's why?

It pops up, but the only search results are from the web. It doesn't look for anything on my phone, and it never accepts commands like "call Bob."

I could not get "call (name)" to work. I tried adding the name to my Gmail contacts, but it still doesn't work. Like dc41, it dumps me to Google's web search. Any tips for this?
I also found out that you can say "dial (1-800-xxx-xxxx)" in Android, but I couldn't get that to work either.
"navigate to (place)" and "map of (place)" works for me though.
CALL (NAME)
Okay, I think I understand now...
For "call (name)" to work, you'll need to login to your Gmail account via your computer's browser, click Contacts, then Add.
If it's already in "All Contacts," but not "My Contacts," you'll need to use the "Move To My Contacts" button. I think this was my problem - anything I added in Android's phonebook didn't get moved into My Contacts in Gmail.com.
Some things are not shown in Android's browser when viewing Gmail, so do use your computer.
That's basically it.
I've been having an issue lately with the stock browser's search feature. The issue only occurs while I am already on a website that is not my homepage. If I click on the search Magnifier icon or start typing in the browser my screen automatically jumps to my homepage. As well, when I'm trying to type in a website and press enter it will go to the website momentarily and jump back to my iGoogle search homepage. Lastly, I used to be able to copy a pictures URL by long pressing the pic, selecting View Image and copying the address in the Address Bar. Now on the other hand, when I long press to highlight the address I get the pop-up with view image, save image and set as wallpaper.
Has anyone heard of this issue? Would there be any way to fix it, short of a factory wipe?
I have a rather specific issue with the keyboard dock that is a bit of an annoyance. Here's how the issue comes up:
1. With the keyboard dock attached, open the YouTube app and watch a video.
2. In the search box of the video screen, type anything that has a space in it (example: "Asus Transformer")
3. The "Asus" bit shows up in the search box, but when I hit the space key, the first "Related video" is highlighted and I am unable to type any further.
The only solution I have so far is to toggle the "Use physical keyboard" option to "Off" and type using the on-screen keyboard.
Am I the only one with this issue?

I had experienced this as well. My solution used to toggle On/Off of the physical keyboard. But I had come to realize that this can be easily rectified. You just need to go back to the very 1st page to type in your search. Seems that the keyboard issue only surface when u have gone through multiple search pages (3 or more). Try my solution & let us know the outcome.
Thanks for reading.

Yeah, that's always worked for me as well, but it's just annoying to go all the way back sometimes.
I'm getting a 'window limit reached' 'can't open a new window until closing another' warning, mostly when I'm using Overdrive Media Console. Pressing the menu key, I can't find anything in the list of settings to allow me to change the limit or view a list of the currently opened windows so I can close one. The 'search this forum' tool (the whole panel) disappears when I log in, and it didn't seem to work right when I wasn't logged in (I'm using IE 8, any issues?). A Google search brings up the problem on other/older devices, all say to press menu, windows, and close some windows. Thats what I see pressing menu on my Bionic(Gingerbread), but it a completely diffferent menu list on my gs3. Is this a Samsung or Ice Cream Sandwich difference?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Edit: Found the answer, please disregard and pardon my ignorance, I'll rtfm first in the future
[FRP] ZTE Majesty Pro Z798BL FRP Bypass
(Sorry for the poor write up, it's basically notes from when I did this model quickly. If I get free time I will clean these steps up some so they are more clear and also get ahold of the handset and post additional methods/steps.)
There are multiple ways to do this bypass - here are just a few i came across freestyling. I'll document the others when i get time to lock up one of these phones again (it's a clients so dont have long with it)
1. talkback settings - This was already enabled for me and the chick that did it said she pressed home 3 times quick like on a iPhone. Not sure if that worked or not (i think shes mistaken). I didn't have time to go back and check. The manual and other info out there says to place two fingers on the screen and wait xx amount of seconds. Then talkback would be enabled. Well I have had this handset a handful of times since before this tutorial and i could NEVER get it into Accessibility.. Talkback enabled .. anything. So if someone knows the first step for sure then please post and i'll edit step.
2. help / about. search voice, click on subscribe out pops u to youtube
hit share and a: goto bluetooth and select device / pair mouthpiece or b: goto gmail and enter a email address hotmail or yahoo
3a: turn device off then back on and click till it beeps, say ok google next - enter search string settings hit enter.. goto the 3 lines on the left for settings, click settings and enable in apps boxes, also you could enable the bluetooth settings too but the most importabt thing here is the cards settings. enable these, next search for stock android and launch it. open settings and enable unknown sources, next open google chrome from the apps, search for sidebar apk, install next add these apps (i add all of them incase i need to get back somewhere.. not all are needed though) I add chrome, google, file manager, settings and stock android. next go back to settings then to apps and disable setup wizard and google account manager
3b: goto 3 dots - ? i forget this one so ignore until i remember. lol
3c: goto dialer
4. download dpc test manager 4.0.5 ? run this select device manager hit next then open, lastly goto developer settings oem unlock and usb debugging. goto backup/reset and reset phone. done
3d: (haven't finished) you need to put the phone into "Engineering Mode" first, by dialling *ZTE*OPENEM# (*983*673636#) -- this action will be confirmed by a quick pop-up. To close this mode, dial *ZTE*CLOSEEM# (*983*2567336#) -- this then prompts whether you want to do a Factory Reset, which you do not have to do (you can simply Back away from this screen).
(dont close mode)
go back to dialer and type *983*87274# USBSI USB Switch Test
enable mdm(modem)
-goto cmd, type adb shell content insert --uri content://settings/secure --bind name:s:user_setup_complete --bind value:s:1 (don't remember the outcome)
reboot?
3e: Open uni android tools (if you've got it) and navigate to > UNTESTED
phonecapone
It was very simple for me. For my Z798BL majesty pro i just held down two fingers on open screen till AccessibilityMode came on then swiped my finger from top left down to bottom right(an L shape) across the screen. That opened a menu so I tapped on TalkBack Options (to disable the TalkBack after the TalkBackOptions opened I held down the volume up and volume down Keys till it was disabled) then I scroll down to Help&Feedback clicked on Switch Access Mode question then scroll down to & tapped on the blue words "Turning on Bluetooth" then scroll all the way down to the bottom of that screen to "WasThisArticleHelpful" Yes or No? Tapped on NO, then I typed in anything in the box highlighted it and click on Assist that took me to the Google app then I typed in Chrome because it wouldn't let me download anything from the Google app so I went to the Chrome app then typed in "Test DPC 5.0.4 apk" then I downloaded the Test DCP APK then follow the instructions to install it including update phone's permissions to install unknown source. Clicked on setup new Divice Owner and followed those options til I was done(think just one or two more screens to click on "yes or continue" wasn't hard to figure out from there) when I was done with all that I tapped Back to the Google app typed in Settings clicked on phone settings scroll down to Backup&Reset clicked on reset device then erase everything then turned off my phone and restarted it. And that was it!
