I Have a wifi at work, and i was able to connect to it but in order to surf the web the IE is set using an automatic configuration script, is there a way to configure my android to connect to this network.
I have a nexus one with rodriguez MIUI installed.
With MIUI, should be already included, probably you need to dig deeper into network configuration. Or just use something like TransProxy.
(Note: either way, you need to set the proxy address and port manually, the WPAD javascript autoconfiguration thing certainly will not work.)
Thanks man. Is there a way of getting the proxy address and port knowing the ac script

Hi,
I just bought myself a new webbook (a CnMbook) and want to use my TouchPRO as a modem so I can surf the net at work.
I've been routing round the internet to find an answer - which I have done http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6239582#post6239582 but my webbook doesn't have the option to get to terminal.
Can anyone else help?
Thanks
Simple solution, which I'm using is > http://www.walkinghotspot.com/
Thanks for your reply - but I already pay for unlimited internet with my phone contract, so I don't want to pay again.
Well, you could try other ways of getting to the terminal... without fixing that module, it won't let you get online via USB.
Otherwise, you can just use Bluetooth if your laptop has it, or the free version of WMWifiRouter, while plugging in to charge.
what is the latest free version of wmwifirouter? http://freewareppc.com/communication/wmwifirouter.shtml <- is that it?
walking hot spot is a trial, but even when it expires it still works
@ldrn - thanks for suggesting WMWifiRouter, that's a great app!
After an hour of messing about with it, I'm about 95% of the way there, but when my laptop tries to connect it says "invalid IP address"
Any ideas how to fix this?

Just had a quick look at the link for WifiRouter you posted. In the change log the author says: "- Made the use of DHCP Allocator disabled by default."
This would mean your Netbook basicly guessed an IP address when it's DHCP request failed. Look around for an option to enable the DHCP. I have no idea where it is, never used the app.
Good luck.
Alex is right (and so is Jack, I think) -- and just go to "Options", "Configuration", then "Use DHCP Allocator".
Glad I was able to help.
@Alex_w and ldrn
Thanks for your responses - however, I am still having issues.
I tried my Vista laptop to connect using WMWiFiRouter and it worked first time, however my little webbook can't get an IP address - whether the DHCP is ticked or not, or DNS.
I've now spent about 6 hours trying to work this out and it's annoying not to mention wasted a Sunday!
Are you using any type of encryption on the Ad-hoc connection? That's normaly my main problem when I work with WiFi on *nix. Just seems like the config tools aren't very polished TBH.
@Alex_w
Thanks for your reply - do you mean like WEP or Firewall?
Either/or - I have none enabled.
I found out that my webbook runs on "debian" - does that make a difference? I'm a total newbie when it comes to Linux
*bump*
No more answers?
Hmm... that is strange. I have had trouble connecting with wcid and WEP, but not with NetworkManager (and NetworkManager is usually the default.) Are you sure you are seeing the network name correctly and there is no encryption? A lot of versions of the NetworkManager fail to see Ad-hoc connections.
If that fails, I could walk you through how to *make* your laptop go to the terminal for the fix, but there would be a big risk of breaking something.
* Edit * Okay, this is pretty unslick and inefficient, but if you only use it for web browsing, the awesome Socks Proxy Server pchasco wrote works great for me on a machine without a fixed rndis module -- I am posting using it right now -- although it looks off on a VGA device like ours and the setup on the other end is a bit clunky.
Plug in your Touch pro and tell it to do activesync with internet sharing turned off, download that and run it on your Touch Pro -- leave the defaults and press "start proxy". Then on your linux laptop, go into firefox, type "about:config", and find network.proxy.socks_remote_dns and set it to true (you will only have to do this the first time.) Then in firefox, go to edit, preferences, advanced, network, settings (under connection) and write the IP address Socks Proxy has in its box near the top on your phone in under "SOCKS Host" -- leave the rest blank -- and the port Socks Proxy has as the port (should be 1080.) Make sure it is SOCKS v5 and press okay, and you should be good to browse.
You have to turn proxy mode off on firefox when you are on a normal connection, though. There are some extensions around to make it easier.
Another useful WindowsMobile-side free software I've found really handy for linux is Mocha's free FTP server -- you can use it to browse around on your phone as if you had activesync without telling it to pretend to be a disk.
@ldrn
Thanks for your detailed response and sorry for my late reply.
I'm going to try this tomorrow and will let you know the outcome.
Fingers crossed!
I am using Ubuntu 8.10 on my Thinkpad notebook and on my eee 900 ("easypeasy 1.0"). I had 2 months with internet sharing nd other connection problems until i changed the MTU to 1392 - that did it! I made a new entry "TouchPro" (instead of the "Auto eth2" it used to create by itself), put the correct MAc address and MTU in it - ready.

How were you able to change the MTU settings on your touch PRo? I am trying to tether w my xbox 360 and it keeps saying MTU fail!!!
I am looking for an Android router app (wired or wireless) than can do port forwarding. I have searched for a while and not found anything that can do this. I have tried using Android Wireless Tether (v2.0.5 -pre9) and Barnacle Wifi Tether, neither of which seem to be configurable enough to do this.
My setup is Sprint Evo 4G, rooted, running Fresh v. 3.3.0.1.
I would like to be able to use my phone as an internet connection for a computer that runs a specialized software that listens on TCP port 9323. I would like to be able to have my server call the IP address of my phone (it is public, and I don't care that it is dynamic), and have my phone forward the request to the computer listening on port 9323.
How can i do this?
Thanks!
im taking a wild guess this would require some severe kernel patching since even on x86 linux variants iptables is done in kernel modules...
alot of work i would imagine, especially manipulating those tables from the dalvik vm...
use Port Forwarder
hi,
I had exactly the same problem as jhenderson019. I just recently solved it by using an app called "Port Forwarder". Its in the market.
So my school just got net books for everyone and also WiFi, but the problem is that my android phone can connect but it cant use it. at first i thought they somehow banned everything but the net books but when i brought my laptop it connected just fine:. so what do you think they did. do you think it could be the mac?
p.s. i can only use internet explorer on my laptop and not firefox.
Just found out that i am in the wrong sub forum can an awesome mod move for me? thanks
It depends of a lot of settings.
What is the encryption mode used on this network? (open, WEP, WPA, WPA2-TKIP, WPA2-AES)
Is the laptop owned or managed by the establishment? (ie: is it registered on an Active Directory domain?)
Is it using an enterprise authentication method (ie: 802.1x)?
If so, which authentication type is it using (ie: TTLS, PEAP) and the inner authentication protocol (ie: MS-CHAPv2, GTC)?
You might have to put your network credentials in order to connect to the wireless if they are using 802.1x.
For your Firefox issue, maybe you could try setting it to use your Internet Explorer's proxy settings and see if that fix the problem.
Something similar happens to me at work, but in this case they are using an automatic configuration scrip to connect to the web.
How can I use the configuration script in my android device

You cannot. Find out the proxy address and port and download something like TransProxy.
Hello!
I recently moved away to a new home and I don't have a wifi router at this time and don't actually need one for just my G3. But still want to try whether any alternative is possible. I stumbled upon what a trick called "AdHoc" but according to the guide, android nativly doesn't support Adhoc (or something like that).
So I am looking for a way to make it work OR any other way to get wifi on my phone. Probably something like reverse tethering.
Thanks!!!
EDIT :: I am also tried using adhoc for myself but, the phone gets stuck on "authenticating" .
So you want to tether your phone to your computer?
I use a program for Connectify to make my own private hotspot using whatever wired connection my laptop has. Its entirely free though probably not the most lightweight or "hack-y" way of doing it.
We had a guide for tethering your PC internet for froyo in which we had to replace WPA supplicant file but it's of no use to you (cm 7)
I myself had tried adhoc of Microsoft but it is way too difficult to configure
You did not mention anything about your PC
If it is from Dell you get a program known as peer net with which you can get wifi in your home. This works with our galaxy 3
Also I think cm7 supports Adhoc as the program mentioned above works flawlessly with it
If it is true then try connectify, virtual router and other programs
If you succeed in configuring wifi be prepared to use the slowest internet speed possible

I want to connect my android device (nexus 7 2013) to an openvpn server which is not administrated by me, meaning I have no access on the configuration.
On my windows7-pc, I do this with the windows version of openvpn, the provided settings file for the openvpn server and the also provided pem-certificate.
Since the server uses the tap device of openvpn, alternative clients like openvpn for android by arne schwabe[1] don't work (this app doesn't support tap).
Since I don't have a private key file (*.key), I cannot generate a p12-file[2] which could be imported by the official openvpn app[3].
The pem-fileformat is compatible to *.cer and *.crt, meaning, I can simply change the file extension to "convert" them. The crt-file can be imported by the android systems (security -> import), but this doesn't help openvpn as it seems to only use it's own certificates.
Any suggestions on how to achieve a successful connection?

wifi
i think if you have ICS_P740AV1.0.0B07 + you can't find open hot spot and if you can see you can't connect.
Try to make one hostop secured with wpa2 and try it.

I have android 4.3 JSS15Q rooted with flo (?). I have superSU and Busybox installed. I followed the default instructions of the nexus root toolkit. My wifi is connected for sure, but it has blocked ports (which is the reason for all this). However, since I'm failing at an earlier stage, and, since it works from my pc from the same network with the same openvpn on the same ports I suppose the error is not in the network settings...
The wifi i'm connected to has wpa2+pkip etc. but I'm not sure how this is relevant...
rom
you have installed a custom rom?
you have try to enable and disable airplane mode?
you have data conenction?

I have stock android rooted. I only have wifi and the connection works perfectly, I tried rebooting the device, I consider this counts as "dis/enable airplane mode". I have good wifi signal strength.
I have no issues accessing websites over port 80/443, only the blocked ports don't work. The openvpn server is reachable on port 443 (it works from my pc).
Hello,
did you ever manage to solve this? I'm looking to configure my nexus 7 2013 to connect to an OpenVPN server using TAP and it doesn't seem to be working. I'm using OpenVPN settings with certificate-based authentification. I'm able to connect to my server, however I don't get a local IP address assigned and when I browse the internet, my IP is still showing up as from the original connection instead of the VPN endpoint. Computers with windows 7 can connect to the server no-problem and all their traffic is directed to the tunnel. Any ideas for guides and walkthroughs?
Thanks. Any help is very much appreciated.
