I was wondering if anyone is able to list all of the bloatware that is safe to freeze on the G2x. Many thanks in advance!

I got AntTek app manager, because it's free, and froze the following:
Car Home (Optional, i don't use it though)
NFS Shift
Nova
T-Mo TV
TegraZone Games
TeleNav GPS
Zinio Reader
AppPack
EA Games
WiFi Calling (Option, i don't use this either)
I have had zero problems, aside from the FC loops caused by freezing a couple of these, which are to be expected and will go away after a reboot (aka battery pull).
I also removed picotts, voice dialing, live wallpaper Apps, protips
G2x with faux AOSP

When I froze MyAccount it put me in a fc loop as well, but I was able to reboot without a battery pull. Just put phone in standby then press again to unlock but don't unlock just press and hold power button to bring up option to shutdown, worked for me each time I rooted my phone, easier than a batt. pull.

Wtf.... dude
First off root your phone (if you haven't) don't be a cheap ass and get titanium pro.
Don't freeze any android or Google services you gonna get a head ache.
If freezing is done right you should NEVER have any loops or fc.
Thanks for the yuks though made me lmao at all the aps you froze....
+1 for throwing your g2x in the freezer! ;p

Hey,
I'm new to the N1 forums and I've just bought a Nexus One!
So anyone care to point me to your must have apps? Like a top ten or something?
Best file manager? Movie player? Compass app? Stopwatch? Twitter client? etc. etc.
I'm also running stock Android Eclair and want to know if it's better to go Froyo or use a custom ROM.
Thanks.

There are several existing threads that cover this subject. Please use the search.
Since froyo is thought to be right around the corner, I would wait it out just a week or two more, then upgrade and see what you want to do as far as unlocking the bootloader, and custom roms, etc.
So far as apps:
Lost of people use Astro File Manager, and Linda. Both are free on the market
Another great app for the Nex is the Nexus Torch, which makes your LED flash from the camera a flashlight haha! SUPER useful.
Astrid is a great, free, to-do list.
ADW Launcher is a KILLER, free, homescreen replacement, that gives you a froyo look, and lots of cool functionality. Cyanogen uses it is his cooked rom for the Nexus, so it comes highly recommended.

Why was that thread locked?
Wavesecure - helps you remotely wipe, backup and locate your phone if it's stolen.
Handcent SMS - best SMS app in my opinion.
Launcher Pro - best launcher (speeds up home screens, app drawer + lots of options)
BetterCut - makes shortcuts for anything and can change icons to anything you want from icon packs and images.
3 (cubed) media player.

Rock Divx Player (if you can ger a hold of it)
Swype
SetCPU

3G WatchDog (mobile data monitor with a nice widget)
Battery Notif (show Battery % in Status Bar, simple and light)
CalWidget (free calender widget)
Dialer One (t9 dialer, much better than stock dialer in many ways)
ES File Explorer ( I prefere this to Astro as I can easily access my desktop through wifi, byebye usb cable!)
No Lock (unlock the screen with any hardware key, save my power button, with a widget to turn on/off)
Google Gesture Search (the name tells)
Screebl (Keep your screen on according to the orientation)
Timeriffic (I use this to turn on/off airplane mode on schedule)
Wifi Analyzer (gd for setting up network and see which channel is least crowded)
All free and can be found in market! Go hv sex with your phone! LOL
so i rooted my tb. i want to keep it as close to stock as possible, but want most junk off too. so ive done this a few tiems and removed things like facebook twitter quickoffice and a lot of widgets. but each time i do, my wifi wont work. if i click it on it turns itself on in a few seconds and tells me error, cannot enable wifi, and things like that.
anyone know what specific file im deleting and shouldnt be? or are they all tied and signed together so no matter what i touch in root explorer im going to mess up wifi? or does anyone have a list of the files in /system/app that can be deleted? i want my free space to be 500mb or more
well more bad news for me. i switched back to my bloated rom this time and didnt remove a single thing, an dim still getting the wifi error 'unable to scan for networks' when i toggle it on. then under wifi it just says error.
i saw a few other phones experience this and by deleting the file bcn_supp they solve this, but i just searched for the file and could not find one on my phone. i guess doing a full factory reset will make me lose root? ugh, its my only option at this point. i flashed that virusrom and wifi works under that, but its not what i want to keep running on my phone
You'll probably need to flash the custom ruu again

You can freeze them with Titanium Backup instead of removing them. The apps will still be installed (taking up space) but they won't be allowed to run (no CPU or RAM use) and it's safer than uninstalling. That's what I did. I'll probably get CM7 so I can just wait for that; no bloatware there.
or in root explorer you can rename them to xxxx.apk.bak and they'll be still on the phone, but gone and you get a chance to find out if removing it causes force closes or not..if it doesnt, then you can delete it for real.
i use titanium to back up, but i dont want to freeze them. i remove them with root and put them on my sd for storage. i want the free system space. i restored my bloated back up, did a factory reset and voila. it worked. so i deleted all my widgets and bloat. still works. problem solved. no more com.htc.bgp errors either.
on to the next problem..

This is a good topic, very informative.
Anyone know the directory where all the system APKs are stored?
I tried /system/app ? I don't see them?
woops, gotta mount first. Answered my own question. Sorry

After you've rooted, just use root explorer, navigate to the system/apps folder, in the top right you'll see "rw" click that so it reads "ro"
then you can rename the apk's to .bak and see which ones will be fine to erase (i put an 'aa' or something in front of the files i rename so they'll all be at the top of the folder for me to delete or move once ive tested the phone to make sure there's no force closes

Hi. Im new. lol But I just rooted yesterday. Was looking for a list of bloat apps I could get rid of and just had an interesting idea. I aplogize if it has already been discussed but...
Has anyone ever thought of replacing wanted orignal apk's with updated versions, such as youtube? And supplanting unwanted ones with other useful app apk's that don't come with the phone, but using the old file names? Would the phone recognize the difference if later unrooted and factory reset?
Thanks for any input.
wow sorry, 1.5 year dead thread ;(
So, i've temp-rooted my MT4GS, and I want to get rid of all the bloatware. Here's what I have frozen now, using Titanium Backup Pro. and it seems to be stable...

•Aubergine Theme

•Jazz Theme
•Retro Theme

•Message Widget
•Music Visualization Wallpaper
•Notes
•Peep
•Setup (tmobile?)
•setup Widget
•Slacker
•SWM-C (I was reading online that this might be used for tracking/analytics/DRM?? No idea what it does, but no issues after killing it!)
•Sync Widget
•T-mobile device Carbon
•T-mobile name ID
•T-mobile TV
•Telenav GPS
•Tips for Home
•Trends Widget
•Twitter Widget
•Video Chat
•Weather Widget

There are a bunch of other things that I'd like to freeze, but i don't want to cause any issues... anyone know what else i can safely freeze? Should I unfreeze any apps listed above for stability reasons? Let me know what you find!

also i removed sywpe and its work fine with regular android keyboard. much better
yeah i noticed all this crap under running services yesterday when I looked the first time. I had two 'calendar' programs running to (10mb and 6mb each, WTF?)
I thought this phone was lightening fast, I can only imagine it would be 110% better w/o all this stuff running..
I've noticed a HUGE increase in battery life after freezing a bunch of these. I want to keep going and see what else i can freeze without any issues, but I'm afraid to go too far and wind up messing up my phone...

On one hand, you're absolutely right. For those living so far from civilization, sometimes a wifi network is your only option. For me, I like to avoid unpopulated areas for a variety of reasons and am just trying to make phone calls without using their cell network (in a fashion that doesn't require any additional cost for me or additional download on the other end).
I've been mainly killing apps that show up in the running services list.

No idea what the SWMC is, I thought it was something to do with swype, but now i'm thinking it has something to do with registering gestures on the screen. Not altogether too sure, but working on it.
What are you guys using to freeze these apps? Titanium backup? tnx
One app I would delete is the preinstalled notepad app, because it always seems to be running in the background. I deleted it and installed Color Note.
And yes, I use Titanium Backup, free version, and simply uninstall apps I don't want.

Google Voice works fine for me (Samsung Galaxy Nexus, stock 4.0.2) - what sort of problem are you having with it?
Chain fire nightmide or msxaa doesn't work
It would be easier to list only those that do not work. I've yet to encounter an app that didn't work with ICS.
My apps that work with 4.0.3 :

SwiftKey
Elecont Weather

Well I can use all of the features of Google Voice that revolve around txt. I used GrooveIP for phone calls and it just crashes. I tried setting up SipDroid and it works but I recently had to re-install my ICS and now it wont work (setting up an already existing account is a pain ). I could use G.Voice as the phone part alone, but it requires some form of a phone plan and I use my cappy as a pmp mostly so no plan on it.

Well I have had apps that don't work , just figured I'd see what people have worknig AND what they have not been able to get working. That way people, like me, can know what they can actually install and use instead of wasting storage space just to find out an app dont work
I've had problems with some apps not thinking I have tts installed while using SVOX. Some apps work fine, others do not. An example that comes to mind is Smarter Alarm. Not sure if the prob is with SVOX or the other apps..
Also Where's My Water works great on my SGN, havnt spent too much time with other games.. GTAIII worked but the buttons seamed not positioned properly, I know they can be manually changed but I haven't done that yet.
GotYa works great.
Hey Community,
I been searching for the past 3 days on this forum. Can someone tell me or direct me to a list of apps that are safe to remove from the HTC One S...
THanks
Pretty much anything you want as long as you don't remove core asps that you need for your phone to function.
For example, I remove the stock browser, live wallpapers and wallpaper picker, picasa uploader, some of the gapps, and any launchers I don't use.
Just don't delete system ui or anything like that lol
