Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the purpose of this thread?
A. To provide you with Radio and RIL files known to work with the HTC Inpire. And in doing so, help prevent you from downloading something that could prevent your phone from working properly.
Q. Why not just go to the Desire HD thread for Radio and RIL files?
A. Because we own an Inspire. While these phones are almost identical, the software used on each is NOT always compatible. This includes Radio images.
Q. What is a Radio?
A. This essentially is what picks up your signal for data/voice transmission. Without this, you have no data, and no voice connection.
Q. What are the risks of flashing a radio?
A. The risks vary, depending on your phone model. For the HTC Inspire, the risks are a phone that will not work on the network. To fix this issue, just simply flash a different Radio. In some cases, on some phones, you could end up with a "brick."
***NOTE: At this moment, there are no 'reported' cases of anyone's Inspire being 'bricked' by simply installing a Radio or RIL.
Q. What is a "brick?"
A. A brick is when you render an electronic device useless. It then becomes about as useful as a brick.
Q. What is a RIL?
A. Radio Interface Library. "This provides an abstraction layer between Android telephony services (android.telephony) and radio hardware. The RIL is radio agnostic, and includes support for Global System for Mobile communication (GSM)-based radios." This is also why, you will find in some cases, more than one suggested RIL for a radio. In the most basic of terms, this is the link between your hardware and software on your phone. Think of it as device drivers. You can use other RIL files with your radio, but having matched pairs 'could' warrant better battery life, and better signal/data strength stability.
Q. How do I know which radio is best for me?
A. You don't. Plain and simple. A radio, for the most part is location based. What works best for you, may not be best for me. This is a trial and error type deal. I suggest changing your radio, and running it for a day or two, until you find what works best for you.
Q. What should I test after flashing a Radio/Ril combo?
A. Please refer to this post, by henrybravo.
Q. How do I check my current Radio version?
A. From your home screen, press MENU, then SETTINGS, then ABOUT PHONE. Now look for your BASEBAND VERSION
Q. How do I check my current RIL version?
A. There are 3 primary methods for doing this. They are listed below.
*Method 1. Use the APK attached to POST 51.
*Method 2. From terminal, type the following:
Code:
su getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl"
*Method 3. From command prompt/ADB, type the following:
Code:
adb shell getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl"
Q. How do I install these files?
A. Radio - Download the PD98IMG.zip file. Place this file on the root of your SD card. Reboot to bootloader. When prompted, press the Volume Up button to install. Then reboot.
RIL - Download the RIL file. Reboot to recovery. Select the "mounts" option, and then mount /system. Now select "flash zip from SDcard." Navigate to where you downloaded the file and install the zip. Then reboot.
Q. How do I check the MD5 Sum after my download has finished?
A. Please remember that the MD5 Sums listed are simply for checking the integrity of the download itself, to make sure nothing got corrupted while downloading. To check the MD5 Sum, I suggest using
Astro File Manager. From Astro, navigate to the downloaded file. Long press the file. when the menu pops up, select DETAILS.
Q. What is an MD5 Check Sum?
A. This is basically the files fingerprint, so to speak. These are unique to every file. If they are ever the same, the file is an EXACT match of it's counterpart in question. So with that said, if the MD5 does not match, DO NOT use it. If you do, the risk is on you.

Radio: 26.06.06.30
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0079HM
ROM: CyanogenMod 7.0.3 stable
Kernel: LordModHD 4.5
Notes: This has proven over time to be a good radio/RIL combination for CM7.0.3. Standby battery drain is 1% every 60-90 minutes, and speeds are as good as they're going to get with AT&T.

Would it be possible to also link the pages with radios and RIL's that work?

Oh yes. Once I get home tonight after work, I am gonna go ahead and start the list in the OP. Then every Friday there after I will update the OP with whatever new ones are within the thread. All links will be credited to their original poster. I'll also have mirror links in case the originals get cancelled, expire or whatever.

Also works in CM 7.0.3 AOSP.

Though I'm thinking my redundant post is probably not necessary, I will mention that I'm using the 06.06.30_M radio with matching RIL (flashable with gtg's RIL flasher in his section in ROM Manager) on Inspired Ace, before I offer my thanks, "I can't believe this hasn't been done sooner" ( ), and my vote for a future sticky.
Inspired Ace 1.0.1¦ XDA Premium

12.35d.60.140fP_26.08.03.07_m
Cyanogen Mod 7.0.3 stable
Kernel is 2.6.32.39

ROM: TPC Inspire 4G Stock ROM Optimized v2
Kernel: Apache14's BUZZ SENSE OC/UV 1.3.8.3 @ 1.6GHz
Radio: 12.39a.60.19U_26.06.06.30_M (also used stock AT&T radio on this ROM)
ROM: MIUI-ace-en-1.5.20_2.3.4
Kernel: Cattleprod's Cyan0#4.7
Radio: 12.39a.60.19U_26.06.06.30_M (also flashed the tinny audio fix, which cleared things up nicely)
Great call quality and signal strength on both ROMs with the 26.06.06.30_M radio. MIUI just needs the audio fix, but once you flash it, it's as good as new.

Updated the OP to show the basic setup of how it will be. I've decided to set it up that way for easy navigation.
Addidtional info to come:
Release Date
Radio Name (If applicable. Example: Stock, OTA mm-dd-yyyy, etc.)
Keep em coming people. Thanks to all for helping this come alive!

Thanks op for making this thread.

+1
Though I already expressed my gratitude in an earlier post, now that the radio/ril links are up, it makes it that much better.
Long. Overdue.
@tribal... Any chance on MD5's for the radios, perhaps?
Inspired Ace 1.0.1¦ XDA Premium

I can't believe this hasn't been done sooner and this also gets my vote for a future sticky.
Do you also want to make a note in the OP that the letter in the middle of some of the radios will change depending on what your ro.ril.hsxpa setting is in build.prop? I know I see a lot of questions about radios "Well why do you have a P and I have a U?" "Is it the same radio?" etc.
In build.prop, when ro.ril.hsxpa=3 (targeting HSPA+), the letter in the radio will be P. When ro.ril.hsxpa=2 (targeting HSDPA/HSDup), the letter will be U. When ro.ril.hsxpa=1 (targeting HSDPA), the letter will be H. And when ro.ril.hsxpa=0 (targeting UMTS (3G)), the letter will be W.
So it might be good to explain that, or name the radio files with an x instead of picking a letter.
Or does flashing the RIL on top of the radio change these ro.ril settings anyway, so if you have the proper RIL then the radio letter would match (unless you manually change ro.ril.hsxpa)?
Even if you don't choose to do this, still a much needed thread!!
Edit: And +1 for adding MD5s

Thanks a lot for this..
A suggestion though, might want to add MD5 hashes so we can verify the downloads.
Oh and perhaps mention how people can check their RIL version:
Code:
adb shell getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl"

I'm curious as to why there are so many. Why the discrepancies? This thing hasn't been out that long. Are there other Inspires that are not AT&T and/or US? I thought there were only two official AT&T releases:
Code:
The original RUU:
RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed.exe
(which should be radio: 12.39.60.19x_26.06.06.30_M RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0077HM)
The OTA update:
OTA_Ace_Cingular_US_1_84_502_11-1_80_502_3_P_release_186225z4g9g65j9b7kolus.zip
(which should be radio: 12.39a.60.19x_26.06.06.30_M RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0079HM)

ROM: RCMix3D KINGDOM v1.1
Kernel: 2.6.35.13-LeeDroid-Ace-GB-3.1.2-gd3180fd
Radio: 12.35d.60.140fU_26.08.03.07_M
Works for me, fast GPS lock.

for some reason my hboot could not see PD98IMGs until this thread. thankyou.

Put the file on your SD Card and do it the same way how do you installed 7.0.2. Use CWM and select your file (Install .zip from SD-Card). Just install it without wiping or deleting anything. But do a nandroid before (CWM Backup)!
Hi, since there seem´s to be some issue´s with 7.0.3 (read on CyanogenMod.com/blog) can´t you release an update patch for only the security fix and the bug fix for the update notification system??
I´m on 7.0.0 and I´ve tried 7.0.2 & and it´s not working any good for me, so updating to 7.0.3 seem´s like a shot in the foot
Thanxs for any input..
Well i wonder where you guys get your RIL's from, i just can find RIL's that are only for Sense Roms based on Gingerbread.
@peste
Would you mind sharing your RIL you are actually using, cause im also from Germany and i would like to give your Radio a try.

I thing you missunderstand it ... 7.0.3 is without this notification bugs. Read the blog again.
An Another Question ...
At the moment i use 7.0.2 and this Radio: 12.54.60.25P_26.09.04.11_M2
I dont flash a RIL ... when i update to 7.0.3, can i flash a ril that is compatible with my Radio 12.54.60.25P_26.09.04.11_M2? Or just flash 7.0.3 without a ril?
After the 7.0.2 release there was a Patch "use 2.2 htc ril" ... is this includet in 7.0.3? Or is it just in the nightlys that based on 2.3.4?
Regards

RIL's are not compulsory but are helpful to get the best results by matching the Radio. You can therefore flash CM7.0.3 but since CM7 will change the RIL to match the recommended radio you should then flash the correct RIL to match the Radio you are looking for which for 26.09.04.11 on CM7 ROM is 2.2.1003G.
There is a link to this RIL in my sig.

back to topic:
I have no problems with CM 7.0.3 so far, had a few issues like connecting my Device via USB with my computer made it reboot several times but after unchecking and checking USB Debugging again it is gone. Im also using Lord Clockan's Kernel v.3.1 to avoid the the Wifi-Error Bug. It feels not that snappy like it did with the newer Kernel on 7.0.0, but i will give it some time. SetCPU is installed, running onDemand min.230 max. 1228 and Screenoff Profile using Smartass with min. 122 and max 537. I also have no Issues with Video Playback like some people stated on the blog.
Let's see how it will be doing withing the next days

I don´t use this RIL anymore, now using the standard CM7 RIL again. Got only connection problems (call drops, signal loss) all 3 minutes. With standard RIL all seems to be good. On o2 Germany.
i think 7.0.3 is buttery smooth..and has improved lot of issues from the last rom.

Inspire Radio Thread [OP Updated July 12, 2011]

Radio and RIL files can be found by scrolling down in this post.
***Please read the entire post before asking questions.***
As more info on these files are gathered, this post will be updated.
(Look for the updates on Fridays.) Have a suggestion for this? PM me.
Q. What is the purpose of this thread?
A. To provide you with Radio and RIL files known to work with the HTC Inpire. And in doing so, help prevent you from downloading something that could possibly brick your phone.
Q. Why not just go to the Desire HD thread for Radio and RIL files?
A. Because we own an Inspire. While these phones are almost identical, the software used on each is NOT always compatible. This includes Radio images.

A. The same as flashing anything else on your phone. Worst case scenario, you could end up with a brick.
Q. What is a "brick?"

Q. What is a Radio?

A. You don't. Plain and simple. A radio for the most part is going to be area specific. What works best for you, may not be best for me. This is a trial and error type deal. I suggest changing your radio, and running it for a couple days. See how things go. then try another until you get what is best for you.
Q. What should I test after flashing a Radio/Ril combo?
A. You should first wait about 20 minutes before running any tests. This gives the Radio/Ril time to "settle." Once this is done, here are some things you should test: Upload/Download Speed, GPS Lock Time, Battery Stability (Test over 2 days please), and dBm & asu. (dBm and asu can be access under PHONE INFORMATION, by dialing *#*#4636#*#*)
**Please also make sure you check POST 149, posted by henrybravo. This is a GREAT way to test your radio/ril.

**When flashing the RIL file, you MUST mount /system before doing so.
***Most are saying the RIL is only good for Sense Roms. This may be true, but I say flash it anyway for good practice and good measure. It won't hurt anything. This information will be updated, once confirmed.

Fixing a GPS issue on cm7

I am targetting the "gps icon doesn't even pop up issue" and NOT the "gps icon pops up but I don't get a lock quickly" issue. (For the latter, try faster fix perhaps)
After reading this cyanogenmod issue comment I decided that it might be a hint to my problem.
While investigating this fault, I read this post and found that the RIL with cyanogenmod didn't match my (now far newer) radio.
To solve this, I flashed an old radio and things started working. I then flashed a new radio and then the matching RIL (from here) and things continued working.
I would have posted in the development section/threads but apparently seen as I haven't posted 10 newbie questions I'm not ready for it so...
tl;dr: If you have a 'new' radio, flash a matching RIL & your GPS issues may be resolved.
Your rils should always match your radios for that reason and others. This doesn't just occur on CM7, but in any ROM if you're radio and ril are mismatched.

I have installed the newest Radio 10.15.9035.02_2 with RIL HTC-RIL 2.2.0173HMQ but gps doesn't lock. No Icon...
Even installed faux and tiamat kernel but nothing helped.
Now i will try to install an older radio maybe that's it.

Help in flashing radio

I am using T-Mobile sensation 4G. I have rooted the phone. I initially installed Android revolution version 6.5.3. I was very happy but last night I installed the latest Android revolution HD 6.6.3 XE. Kernel version is sense-faux 123-v005+. Build number: 3.32.401.5 CL309896.( Superswiped and flashed the ROM only). It works amazingly well.
I am presently using Radio:11.22.3504.07_M. I have looked at the forum and see that T-Mobile users have a better radio to flash. Can anyone provide me the link and MD5 check number and also can I flash new radio after flashing the new ROM as mentioned above??? Please help.
Also will flashing the T-Mobile radio will it make a difference?
I don't know where you found a post for a better TMOUS radio, but typically what you want to do is flash the rcdata and match your build prop...
This will instruct you on how to do just that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24079182&postcount=61531
Or if you're looking for radios then this is where you want to go:

There's a link on the first page of the ARHD thread that says "T Mobile users, flash THIS"
It gives you the tweaks you need. It's been a while since I did it, but as I recall it's a PM58IMg file so it's super easy to do.

Yes, but that's just a "Dish 2" rcdata image... You still need to edit the build.prop to change ro.ril.hsxpa values from 3 to 2... If not then you'll have unmatched values.
(something the OP in the main thread does not explain)
yes that is why i get confused.

I'm on 6.6.3 using the 3.32 firmware with a dish 2 setting. My baseband is: 11.693504.00u_11.22.3504.07_M
It looks like you're running the same radio. It was the same one included in the 3.30 firmware. Your RIL's with 6.6.3 will match.
There is no ICS TMOUS radio since the OTA has not been released. You can still flash the dish 2 rcdata.img and edit your build.prop as I suggested before and see if it makes any difference for you. If it doesn't then you can always flash the dish 3 rcdata.img and restore an original version of your build.prop.
Radio-wise, you're set until TMOUS releases their OTA...
That means I am good and not worth messing anymore

Does that means I am good and not worth messing anymore with dish2 etc and stick with what I have now? I am happy tho with what I have but was just curious because during flashing 6.6.3 I say T-Mobile users flash this radio. That was why I got confused.

If you click on that link you'll see that it is not a radio, but rather the dish 2 rcdata.img in a PG58IMG.zip for flashing with the bootloader.
Look at post #4 of this thread and you'll see that I mentioned it was not very clear on the ARHD thread. Look at post #2 and you'll find the links for more information regarding TMOUS rcdata.
To directly answer your question: You can run like you are (dish 3) without issues, but you MAY get better data connection and speeds with dish 2 settings.

Flashed DISH2
I flashed DISH 2 few hours back but I think DISH3 was better as I saw-85db/m on DISh 3 where as _107db/m on DISH 2. Yes I changed the ril through build prop 2 after flashing DISH2. Do you think I did not flash it good and I have lower signal or is DISH3 better in my area? I live in Newark, NJ. Should I wait for a day and see if there is any improvement.

Can someone explain what the actual differences are between dish3 and dish2? It's almost sounding like people on virgin mobile ranting and raving about prl swaps and getting better reception.
Dish2 and 3 both are bad for my phone
I do not know which radio I had before i flashed the Dish2 and Dish3 tmobile radio. Both the times I also changed the build prop ro.ril to its respective radio. After i did I always had edge and never say H for mobile network. My data speeds are very low when using mobile connection. Any help of which radio I was using earlier when I flashed ARHD 6.5.3. Now I use 6.6.3

It's not the dish setting, it's the radio itself. You're using a european based radio because that's all that was available. There is now a Chinese version available, but TMOUS will be dropping their OTA any day now so just wait for that...
Did you flash the corresponding RIL for your radio?

[FW][RADIO][RIL] Network Scanning Error & MMS Fix for AOSP JB & KitKat ROMs

I've found a simple solution to infamous Error while scanning for networks message with Android 4.1.x, 4.2.x, 4.3.x and 4.4.x AOSP based ROMs and decided to share it with all of you. It should be safe to install this fix on any custom AOSP based ROM. Not compatible with Sense ROMs!
To install the fix just flash an attached zip file from recovery.
And re-flash it again if you did a ROM update!
Caution! Prior to flashing on 4.1.x based ROMs, open zip with winrar and delete rild file from /system/bin/.
There are 3 versions to choose from
HTC-RIL_4.0.0024HMQ_AOSP.zip - original files extracted from cile381's AOSP 4.2.2 build 4! 100% credit goes to him. Thanx dude! :good:
You may want to install a matching radio 11.72.3504.00U_11.23.3504.08_M2 with this rather old but widely spread RIL not a mandatory though.
For some reason all AOSP ROMs (official CM, albinoman887, LaidbackNikez, cile381, DragunKorr, etc...) use the same identical libhtc_ril.so v4.0.0024 and different modifications of libril.so and rild with their ROMs...
HTC-RIL_4.0.0037HMQ_AOSP.zip - same as above with an updated libhtc_ril.so to v4.0.0037 so you can safely use it with the latest radio.
This is the latest official RIL for Sensation and is now included in legendary CM ROM by bruce2728 (recommended).
HTC-RIL_4.0.0056HMQ_AOSP.zip - same as above with an updated libhtc_ril.so to v4.0.0056 from Inspiration ROM (One S ICS).
Please note this RIL wasn't originally intended for Sensation but still works great and has become a part of fantastic CM ROM by Sultan (bleeding edge).
All tested and working!
HTC-RIL_4.0.0036HMQ_AOSP.zip - same as above with an updated libhtc_ril.so to v4.0.0036 by request.
INFO: RIL 4.0.0063 from Relevation/ViperS 3.1.x JB ROM (One S JB) will not work with current breed of AOPS-based ROMs (requires ion/hboot/firmware), probably will work with future ION AOSP ROMs
To check RIL version run getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl" (with the quotes) in Terminal Emulator or use CID Getter and search for gsm.version.ril-impl.
Funny enough, when GetRil is used to install latest Sensation RIL .37 it won't recognize it after device reboot. In fact GetRil doesn't analyze anything it just checks what's installed and compares with it's database which is not up to date and definitely doesn't have any info about matching/not matching radio/ril from different ported ROMs.
MMS fix (may cause problems with data connection on some networks)
If you're unable to send/receive MMS while mobile internet is active and Wi-Fi is off do a simple trick to fix it:
open build.prop and add skipbrokendatacall to this line:
Code:
ro.telephony.ril.v3=datacallapn,signalstrength[COLOR="Red"],skipbrokendatacall[/COLOR]
Save and restart your phone. (You may need to set permissions to file before restarting, depending on text editor used.)
Latest FW & Radio (optional but highly recommended)
To install the latest firmware and the latest radio just flash* this file!
MD5: de9987bae2d70a20e11ecb4a32363a0d
SHA: 0d08cd59385d1d26018538616f0a39ea5e7d2811
Note: your device must be S-OFF !!!
File contains latest firmware 3.33, hboot 1.29.0000 and radio 11.76C.3504.00P_11.29A.3504.18_M.
To check firmware version connect to PC, fastboot load into the bootloader and type: fastboot getvar version-main
Firmware is identical to the original firmware by mike1986. with an updated radio (thank you stempox).
Nevermind a locked status of 1.29.0000, I don't think you'll really need an unlocked one, you're S-OFF anyways...
You can always use HBoot 1.27.1100 Patch to go from locked hboot 1.29.0000 to unlocked hboot 1.27.1100 (thank you Kohr-Ah)
Enjoy!
PS Don't forget to make a nandroid backup, just in case...
*How to flash firmware (credits to mike1986.):
if you're superCID just follow from step 3
1. Check your CID using fastboot getvar cid and MID using fastboot getvar mid
2a. If your CID and MID are supported by default, navigate to point 3.
2b. If your CID or MID is not supported by default, do this: (you do it at your own risk)
2c. Open PG58IMG.zip (don't extract it)
2d. Open android-info.txt in text editor
2e. Add your cidnum: <your CID> or modelid: <your MID> to the list, save file and close archive
3. Place PG58IMG.zip on your SD card
4. Boot your device holding power button + vol down button
5. Follow instructions on the screen

Is it available for radio 11.76A
Sorry, I meant build 4 was my favorite build of SuperXE. It was perfect except for the PMEM video glitching. Build 5 and on have battery drain issues for me. I'm assuming it's due to the new base where google services takes over the phone or possibly the newer kernel used on those builds. Anyways, I'm still in search of the perfect ROM.

Of course, flash HTC-RIL_4.0.0037HMQ_AOSP
Generally both 4.0.0024HMQ and 4.0.0037HMQ will work with any radio provided in 3.32-3.33 firmwares. But radio/ril matching is generally advised.
For more info check pretty detailed stempox's thread
its work flawlessly..foot's thumbs up ///good work then

That's not exactly true. If users will flash directly from stempox thread they'll end up with dead network connection!
They have to update libhtc_ril.so only to update RIL and libril.so from cile's 4.2.2b4 rom to fix network scanning.
For instance GetRIL updates only libhtc_ril.so
stempox's libril.so seemed to be designed for Sense and do not work on AOSP...

I've no problem flashing the stock ril packs from stempox thread. i've Always flashed it on every rom, never problems. Only the ril .37 give me problems sending mms (the baseband restarts when sending mms). I've Always used .36, on all roms.
Noob Q. How to check if i got latest fw, radio, ril without ADB ?

That's impossible!
Just flashed HTC-RIL_4.0.0037HMQ.zip from stempox thread on Albinoman's CM10.1 - no network! libril.so is obviously incompatible. Exact same story with HTC-RIL_4.0.0036HMQ.zip

So are you saying i'm a liar? LOL really, i don't know about .37 ril, but when i flash .36 on an aosp rom, it works for me.
If you provide me an "AOSP .36 ril pack" i will look at it and compare with mine. If there are a problem i will edit the lib.

Surely not a liar a "confuser" probably .
Download HTC-RIL_4.0.0037HMQ_AOSP.zip from 1st post and extract libril.so - that's the file to examine, cause it varies from ROM to ROM and contains crucial info about how ROM communicates with RIL (I guess).
libhtc_ril.so (actual RIL) is the same for Sense and AOSP, in fact there is no such a thing as Sense RIL or AOSP RIL, it's all about libril.so file.
