Atrix vs. x2 - T-Mobile LG G2x

I currently own an unlocked atrix on att. I'm always on wifi so mobile data speeds are not problem for me. I have an offer from craigslist to trade my phone with a x2. should I go with it? What do you guys say?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App

its up to you... i was not impressed by the atrix other than the whole docking capabilities that it had

I can't say to much about the Atrix cuz I've never played with it. The G2x is a great phone with lots of development, roms and kernals. Better yet, bootloader is already unlocked.
Sent from my LG-P999

If you are happy with the Atrix I would stay with it for now. Most of the opinions I have seen would say that the G2X is a better phone. I went and played with both phones at the stores and bought the G2X. I don't regret that decision and I really like the G2X overall. I will love it even more when they come out with the official software fix. That said, I would not get a G2X off of craigslist right now. There seem to be some phones that have much more severe issues in regards to reboots and backlight bleed. People that are having trouble exchanging or can't return those phones are most likely turning to craigslist. I would have to really trust someone to take a G2X from them right now without extensive testing. I have been burned too many times buying electronics off of craigslist, I have gotten some good deals too though so YMMV. Maybe I am just being paranoid.

I love my atrix and we are probably having gingerbread update soon (june july as per a dev in our forum). I think I'm gonna stick with this atrix now.
It does look like a superior phone considering better battery, superior screen resolution, fingerprint scanner etc. only thing I miss here is the lack of unlocked boot loader.
I really wish someday I can run cm7 on it as I was able to do on my nexus one and nexus s.

Atrix seems like a cool phone! I love my g2x.... just new to android so learning to do ROMs and all that.. so I'm not at the peak of the fun mountain yet='/

[Q] Should I buy a TB out of contract?

I am really really sick of this Droid 2 that VZW replaced my Droid with. I'm sick of Moto services invading my phone and slowing it down. There's no true ASOP build. This phone sucks balls.
I was set on buying an Incredible 2 OoC b/c it was cheap at $440 and saving my upgrade till later, but where I'm moving to next week already has LTE towers.
Do I really want to wait 2 months using this laggy trash? And possibly end up getting a TB anyway because the other phones coming out suck.
Or do I want to get a TB and save my upgrade till later in the Q4 2011/Q1 2012 when NFC Ice Cream Sandwich phones come out.
Don't want a Charge, poor build material choices.
Don't want a Revolution. Bing...
Does it really matter? Not really... You just root and you can put whatever you want and however you want.
Motorola tends to lock their bootloaders and make it hard to do what you want.
Samsung stated that they'll never lock it that way(Not in those words, but given the sense that they will leave it open)
HTC has been locking down their devices, but not as tough as Motorola does.
So basically pick a device with the hardware you want, and make sure it's root and you can install custom roms/kernels.
The T-Bolt is a great phone, and it has excellent community support. I have absolutely no complaints about my phone (aside from the battery life).
That being said, the Galaxy S II that's coming out looks sexy as hell. It might be worth the wait to hold out for that. Honestly, it's totally up to you.
There was talk about tiered 4G plans, which is what made me opt for the early upgrade to the T-Bolt (hoping to be grandfathered in to unlimited 4G). I haven't heard much on that front, but it's still a possibility.
wait a few months
from everything i've ever read about samsung phones, their software support is absolutely horrible. slow updates, faulty gps etc. i've heard a ton of people complain about the issue, and it seems to be the case with all their phones... never had one, but that's the impression i get.
the thunderbolt is a decent phone, but all it really has over the droid x is 4g. the t-bolt screen might be a little better, but not much. in day to day use it's not faster, the battery isn't even close and the build quality of the DX is equal or better. if i were you i would pick up a DX on craigslist for $175 and save your upgrade for a few months. The dx has even more dev support than the T-bolt and it's the best phone I ever had.
bottom line is, if you really want 4g speeds right now, really really bad, then get the thunderbolt. if you can do without that for awhile i think you will be really happy with a DX, especially after using the Droid 2, and you'll spend less than half the money.
the above is just my .02.
Show me a HTC or Motorola phone with latest software on it
Not you fat Jesus
I bought mine off contract and am very happy I did it. Yes there are a few issues, but nothing a little root cant fix.
Though waiting a few months for a better phone won't hurt, the TB is a great choice.

I just have to say that this cracks me up every time I see you post it.
Once you get a taste of 4G, you will never want a phone that is 3G only. So if you are moving to 4G area and don't want to pay full retail, I suggest you get a used Tbolt from craigslist and use it until something comes along that you like better, then sell the Tbolt
i love my TB, i have it rooted with das bamf NTE 1.6.3 and its about the coolest thing since MP3s.. as with others, the battery life on this thing is fkin AWFUL!! i have the extended battery and i still dont feel like its enough, however i use my phone probably more than i should or more than others. either way the LTE network is retarded fast and i'd never want 3g.
First off I just want to say I owned a droid 2 and it wasn't that bad. I jumped to the thunderbolt just to lock in the 4g rate. The bigger screen is a nice plus but other than that is the same thing. I wasn't overly impressed as other owners of the droid x and 2 have stated is not that big of a jump.
Before I end let me just say other than software wise android phones are exactly where I want them. I don't need a dual core chip in my phone and 4g is. good enough for anything I would ever want to do with my phone. I'm sure most of you will disagree but that's just how I feel. Flame away!

I picked up a TB on craigslist for $350. The custom roms still seem a bit premature, however they should evolve over time. Nonetheless it's an amazing phone. If you have a desk job or spend a lot of time in your car, the battery life is not much of an issue. Just stay plugged in.
Got my TB off Craigslist for a fascinate trade plus 150$. I love it so far.. 4g is amazing..once you.have it you won't want to go back.
Roms are not bad. I'm waiting for a complete cm7 or sense 3.0 rom but other than that das bamf runs fantastic.
If you have the cash and want a great phone with a growing dev community, go for it.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Thank you for all the input.
It's funny the other 2 forums told me I'm a moron and this one says Buy a TB!!!
I use over 2GB of data a month so the 4G unlimited (Hopefully grandfathered for life) makes it very tempting since my upgrade isn't till mid July which is around the time the rumors of tiered data plans landing. I'm also not to optimistic about an actual new phone coming out then. Maybe the SGSII but I really hate the fact that it doesnt have a search button. It's a damn Google phone and I use the search button all the time, for GOOGLE, not Bing!
I didn't even think about craigslist. That might be a good option.
As for a cheap DX. No way. It basically is a D2 minus the keyboard. I like the keyboard, I can sacrifice it for a 4G newish phone but not for an X. and I hate the Blur invasion, and locked bootloader. My D2 has been running custom roms. They're just too laggy and buggy still. Fab, Kejar, and Rummy are awesome, but they all had DXs and the D2 ports were just not good. Most of it I blame on Blur still having to be in there. I've been running GB stock blur and custom and for the first time since my D1 ADW launcher gets kicked out of memory and has to reload when I hit home.... I hate it.

What is the deal breaker?

I love my inspire...and before I even had this phone I considered the atrix...I know there both good phones, but which do you think is actually best?
I can overclock my inspire too be way faster than the atrix so processors aren't a factor...what would make someone want an atrix over an inspire?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I would imagine that people would want the Atrix for the docks and laptop replacements. Not as stable from what I've heard. Good ideas, not fully developed yet.
I was thinking about both and read a review while waiting in the att store. The inspire was getting better reviews than the Atrix.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I hate MotoBlur. I love my Inspire ...so I'm obviously bias. lol
For me the atrix is just too damned slow, laggy. I have played with more than 5 brand new ones now and they are all the same. Such a shame to, I was dead set on getting one, even without the ability to flash new kernels. But I cannot live with a phone that stu stu studders so bad. In fact I just went and bought another new inspire today for the mrs and played around with the new phones again. The infuse is much more appealing to me than the atix, even with that big ass screen its snappier. So sad moto, you had such a bad ass blueprint with that ***** and it turned into an abortion. They are getting returned left and right by unhappy customers. Oh well, when the gs2 comes out I just hope that ***** is as bad as I think it is.
oh and on an unrelated note. Played with an old favorite the captivate today. Holy Christ that thing is slow in stock form. That phone is an example of just how bad ass the xda devs are.
I am biased as well, but here goes. The development in the inspire is amazing. You can run the new sense 3.0, cm7, miui, and a plethora of sense based roms. This phone will continue to receive development which will give us unofficial official updates far after htc discontinues support, which I assume will be quite a while away anyway, and the atrix will reach end of life far sooner. The locked encrypted bootloader means no kernels, and as of now no real roms. For me this is a huge dealbreaker. Also my inspire running overclocked miui kills the stock atrix, and in my opinion the screen quality on the inspire is far superior. Just know if you choose the atrix you will be at the mercy of moto for updates and software development, and after my experience with the captivate and official updates from samsung, I would never want wait for updates from the manufacturer.

Sell my g2x?

So I was on the border of whether or not to buy the g2x, or wait for the sensation. The locked bootloader on the sensation sealed the deal and on april 20th, 2011, I was the proud owner of a shiny new G2x! A little background is in order... I've been using Htc's since g1. Fast forward through an mt3g, n1, hd2 (android) and an mt4g. Always happy until the washed out screen on the mt4g. But I'm not one to complain, so it was all good. I gave my wife the mt4g when I bought the g2x. Shes running evild's sensation rom. And I must say, IT HAS GIVIN THE MT4G A NEW LIFE! Ive actually gotten a little jealous... I've had random reboots when ocing, lag with certain roms,, and freezing with certain roms. But nothing a battery pull can't fix. My question is, when the sensation is available, should I sell the g2x and buy the sensation? What is everyones opinion and why...

I agree. Wait until the bootloader is actually unlocked and then buy it. Who knows, maybe by then we might have a stable build of cm7 and you wont want to switch

Do what you feel, I'm having none of the issues mentioned here.
Your phone, your choice.
My advice would be to wait about 30 days. By then the official gingerbread update will be out (hopefully) and with that, new kernel and baseband for the devs to develop new roms.

Ultimately yes ill do what I want. My wife told me to buy the sensation and keep the g2x... I can only use one device at a time lol I have no use for 2 devices... I think I'm just disappointed in the unreliabilty of my specific g2x. And its obviously a widespread issue. Needless to say, as fond as I am of the g2x, I'm seriously considering selling it and getting the sensation. Plus, I'm getting bored with the g2x and maybe even the whole constant flashing and modding in general. Spending hours modding framework and editing .pngs just seems to be getting too tedious I guess. On the flip side, the sensation is a solid respectable device with great hardware. Rooted or not. And I'm sure someone will have the unlock key dropped in their lap soon enough ;-). I'm just looking for an excuse to not sell this monster lol

I agree about the Sensation looking solid, but my G2x and many others where bought fairly cheap. I got mine for 119 from amazon. For that price I'll gamble. So far my gamble has paid back. Great device with barely any hiccups. Makes my Nexus S look bad.

I paid 200 after rebate... In release day. Cheap... Definitely, but the full price of the phone was cheap to begin with, so I guess the contact price is relevant. It will be interesting to see what the sensation goes for a month after release in craigslist...

That would be interesting to see what the price would be on craigslist. I've got so many phones to choose from it's really about preference. I've got 5 lines all have net and all have upgrades available. My kids and wife get my hand me downs. For me at the moment the G2X has no competition on T Mobile. The minor hiccups are software related for sure. So there going to be fixed or some great rom will make it perfect. Currently running stock with the bloat removed and it's snappy. No reboots, hardly no backlight issues, keyboard has no lag, so if I compare to my other phones which are Nexus S, Nexus One, Sidekick 4G, G2, and my dads Inspire. I'm definitely liking this phone. It would take the Sensation to really be sensational to make this phone go. My wife already has her hopes up that I'll fall for the Sensation, she loves the G2X. The phone is great, has some issues but I'm sure LG will fix them all. Guess if your phone is screwy, demand they replace and give you a new one. But I definitely waited to see what this phone was capable of before I pulled the trigger, I'll do the same with the Sensation.

Yea, I will be buying the sensation outright if I get it. The support for the g2x has been phenomenal. Which is my biggest reason for holding in to it. Tmobile has always been deutschebags about swapping my handset. Even though I buy atleast 2 phones a year from them. So I'm just at the point where I am tired of dealing with them and deal with my original purchase.

Where did you read that? Im pretty sure tmo is getting the sgs2. I keep saying people should hold off until they (tmo or lg) releases these supposed updates. IMO the g2x blows away ANY of the amoled screens i have seen. and just because it has an xtra .2 processing power doesnt mean its going to be better or faster.
Once the g2x updates are released (im hoping one will be a fix for the lg and the other will be the official GB release for the g2x). ME personally I wont be getting any htc phones until they make some decent cameras. Thats just me though. its funny my g2x is near perfect other than battery drain. And battery charging takes for freaken ever. My d2 charged full in 30 min go figure! BUT my womans g2x which she got a few months after mine has almost ALL the defects: screen bleed, reboots serious battery drain, and she gets the sleep of death contstantly.

So far at least, sgs2 that cleared the FCC only has AT&T 3g bands. Not saying it won't come to TMO but that version hasn't made it stateside.

any who, I'm selling the G2X some time in the next couple weeks, I'm in the same boat as the OP, except I don't have much issues besides a tiny screen bleed top corners and a reboot since I've had the device 4/24... I just love HTC Sense and HTC phones plus I have an upgrade available so selling the G2X and getting the Sensation will not be an issue. I say sell and purchase new phone. Sense is just so amazing compared to vanilla, and I'm pretty sure the G2X wont be getting a sense ROM.

There was a tmo roadmap leaked that didn't show the galaxy s 2 but mentioned the Hercules. Also there was another leak from an accessories manufacturer that showed the names for the sprint, at&t, and Verizon gs2 but didn't mention anything for TMobile. The Hercules should be pretty much a gs2 but with a bigger screen and maybe a qualcom processor instead of exynos and 42mb/s radio
Edit: I love my g2x and the support is getting from the greatest devs in the android community. Just wanted to put that out there

Coming from HTC Aria.....Infuse or Atrix

Originally this year I had a Iphone 3G and going to upgrade to the Atrix, but at that time the BL was locked and didn't want to wait around. So I returned the Atrix and bought a used Aria online. Well last night my Aria broke and now looking at a replacement, I plan on root and installing custom ROMs. I am wanting to know which is probably the best one to go with with custom ROMs?
How do they compare as far as battery life, speed, video, and such?
This has been asked before. This is one of such threads here.
Thanks for the info.
What broke on your aria? I might be interested in buying it for parts
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
That other thread is too outdated especially now that Atrix has an unlocked bootloader and real custom roms available now. I too would like to know the difference. I've never seen so many contradictory reviews of two phones lol. I see reviews where people say the pics on the atrix are way better than those on the infuse. I have the droid 3 or whatever it's called camera on my Atrix so it becomes a moot point because the pics coming from that camera build are better than the build on the ATrix.
I just really would like as many opinions as possible to get a good feel for why people who went from the Atrix like the infuse better. Preferably those that went from a rooted/unlocked bootloader Atrix.
1) Our screen still blows away the Atrix
2) The Atrix is still kinda big and clunky
3) The unlock process makes it clear that you've unlocked and is grounds for FULLY voiding your hardware warranty even if the problem is not software-related.
I've had both phones. In my opinion the Infuse is better than the Atrix. I found them to be equally as fast. The display on the Infuse even with "lower" resolution blows the Atrix away. When using the Atrix I found the battery to get so hot it was annoying.
Verizon has a buy back program for people to trade in their old phones. The Atrix in prime shape would fetch about $125. The Infuse brought in about $190.

+1, I don't even think it's close. Infuse is easily the better device, in my opinion. I absolutely love the Infuse, while the Atrix was mediocre, at best. The Atrix looks better on paper obviously, but the Infuse is the better device. I can't imagine anyone (who's used both) saying otherwise.

The original digitizer was having issues, so I bought a replacement. Well I almost had the new in when I forgot to put the ear piece back in and when pulling the digitizer back off it slipped and I ripped the ribbon clean off. So I installed the old one again, but the lcd is not coming on. Can't figure out what it is.

No...there are better phones and definitely will be better phones...due to driver issues a 100% working update is unlikely to ICS.
there are still some sleep of death in some specific kernels (previous version of trinity will sleep your phone to death when you finish a call), but i think cm7 did very well, i hardly have these problems.
never missed any call or sms; have battery drain and overheat issues playing games, especially with oc (never seen any android phone doesnt have these issues XD)
hope it can help you making decision, g2x is a good phone with good price
Some will say yes, others dont, the phone in deed is a beast! A friend of mine has a stock SGSII (GT-i9100) and side by side with my rooted cm7 Oced at 1.2ghz I got nothing to envy... It has its issues, but EVERY device will have their owns, its up to u at the end.
PS
It could probably, in a not so close future, be updated to ICS...

i dont have any complaints with the g2x it is the best phone ive ever used, just sucks nvidia is being selfish about not releasing source to help out our devs get ICS for our devices. For 300 dollars tho i'd wait and see whats coming out Q1 2012.

You can find them for $200. I will only charge you $50 for that info. I just saved you $50. What a deal.

Phone is great. Haven't had issues since base band update. Cm7 is best option for ROMs
Don't pay over 250 phone just hasn't held its value in the resale market. It's a shame.
Problems are there but not so.bad. I reboot the phone everyday just to avoid email sync issues. I've always had that issue going.
I've been peeking at the sgs2 and amaze forums. Development is slow, no cm7. I am sure they will get it.
Overall. If you find it for 200 its a good buy. Still a fast phone despite the issues. Just don't overpay, phone is old by today's standards
If u are looking to get a contract tmobole is giving it away for free right now or you can check the website I went to called wirefly.com when the g2x first came out I got it for only $150

Hell....I'll sell you mine for $250, with an unlock code and the LG hard case and car dock. For another $50 I'll also add the 4500 mAh Mugen extended battery and door.
