XOOM thinks its an HTC Vision - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know what happened, but my Xoom "sees" itself as a Vision. When I plunge it into my computer its the same story. If anyone knows how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it.

sounds like you modified your build.prop? Open your build.prop file in a text editor, and see what the device name there is. I'll betcha it says HTC vision, if so you will need to modify it back to stock settings to make your xoom identify as a xoom

That's the weird part, I didn't modify the build.prop file. Thanks for the reply, I'll look into that

Inspire 4g phone identity says Desire HD

I rooted my inspire 4g, every thing is fine but when I check phone identity from settings it shows as Desire Hd, is there way to chafe it?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
This is normal. The Inspire 4G is just the North American version of the Desire HD. The two phones are fundamentally the same. I haven't heard of any way to change it.

you can change it but you would have to edit the default.xml file
Very very simple fix...
Download root explorer.
Navigate to system folder.
Set as R/O.
Long press build.prop, open in text editor.
Go down to where it says Desire HD and change it to say HTC Inspire ™4G.
Press back button, save your new prop file, and reboot once for it to take effect.
I'm running Ultimate Droid for the DHD flawlessly on my Inspire, I can't stand seeing Desire HD in the phone model either lol.

it won't work like that believe me i know you have to edit the default.xml file located in /system/customize/CID & on that note you have to do this on a new flash meaning you will need to edit the default.xml file within the roms zip file before even flashing it
Edit: right now in my build.prop it still says desire hd but since i edited my default.xml file when i check my phones identity it says HTC Inspire 4G

i'm not going to argue with you but i know better the right way to change phone identity is they way i said in my post nuff said
read my edit in my last post if you don't believe me
The question in my mind is if HTC decided not to change this when customizing the phone for the NA market, did they have a reason (they made other changes)? Are there apps/accessories that may misbehave because they don't know what an "Inspire 4G" is (since no official phone has ever reported that ID)? Just wondering.

I put in my two cents, that's how I've changed the identity in the past and it DOES work.
It changed in settings> bluetooth, also changed on this screen where it says - Sent from my HTC Inspire ™4G using XDA App
But did not change in settings> about phone> phone identity.

Both are right. Some apps pull the model info from build.prop, some from default.xml. Change both before a flash and you are golden.

I remember that is what we did to get it to work on other unsupported devices, but it wasn't a guarantee. If you were feeling up to it, check and see what devices close to ours are supported and then try editing the build.prop. If I remember it is changing 2 lines of text, the Manufacturer and the Model. As long as you make a backup of you original you should be OK, but I just don't like doing that sort of thing until I have a way to get back to stock safely.

[Q] Mms.apk Problem

I have been using the mms_cyan.apk
Found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901216
And have been quite happy with it, with a couple exceptions. 1) It does not show the notification on my lock screen like my stock mms app does and 2) found out last night than anytime I go to send an audio or video file, the app FC's. If anyone could help me either figure out how to resolve these 2 issues or if it's too complex for someone who had little to no experience working w/ apks perhaps resolve it and tell me what had to be done so that I can learn from the experience I would be greatful.
I have included my stock mms.apk, the mms_cyan.apk, as well as my framework-res.apk in the zip file.
Thank you in advance.
Edit: I am using a LG-C800 on 2.3.4 if that matters
Any idea guys? And this may need to be moved to the Android specific forum?

Maybe the mms.cyan is missing files from your stock mms.apk

But where would I begin to try and resolve the issue? I'm pretty computer savvy, but programming and the like has never really been my strong suite; although not afraid to try if pointed in the right direction.
The files u downloaded, r they designed for your phone?
Sent from my HTC_A510c
I haven't been able to find anything designed for my phone yet. Newer model. But everything works aside from being able to send audio or video sends pictures fine.
That might be why then, maybe
Sent from my HTC_A510c
Actually, just tested it and I can't send any mms with this app... can receive just fine though. Where would I have to start to make the mms_cyan compatible? Cause the stock mms app sucks horribly, cannot even choose what folder to download attachments to. Really like the one I'm using but the limitation of not being able to send an mms just isn't a viable option...

Ok so after looking at the logcat I'm seeing that for picture messages it's being denied by the server for some reason... as for the problem with adding audio and it crashing I'm still at a loss... any dev able to possibly offer some insight?
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda premium
if it worked in ur phone place the apk in the rom and reload it, if never worked, the apk might not be for your phone
Maybe the mms.cyan is missing files from your stock mms.apk
Any idea as to where to start? After decompiling both apks with autoapktool and looking in the folders the stock has a lot more folders inside, but don't know where to begin narrowing it down as to where the problem may lie. Thanks in advance...
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda premium
what its mms.cyan can change skin?
It appears to be a modded stock mms.apk with the option of a white or black background and with the black background the names on the main conversation screen as well as 'new message' are colored cyan as well as the default contact image is modded, really like the app and wish I could get some help to mod it to work on my phone properly...
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda premium
I'm in about the same boat as you as far as skills go. If we can get dev attention to a ClorkworkMod recovery, then CyanogenMod (which I assume is where your preferred MMS comes from, judging by the name) opens up to us. The MyTouch Q is supposed to get an OTA update to ICS second quarter of this year, so it can definitely run the latest stuff-- even when bloated down with T-Mo apps and CarrierIQ. It's really a neat slider.
Yeah, after tweaking the phone some its pretty quick and love the fact its a slider... keep checking into the post hoping they will figure out cwm for the c800 but no such luck so far.
And judging from the original post where I found the mms_cyan, the OP has a lot of posts for HTC so thinking it was from one of those roms... but having no luck so far figuring out where to start so I can mod it to work fully on my phone.... not that I have any programming knowledge anyhow but... lol
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda premium
Ok, so since I've been unable to figure this out on my own... I would gladly donate to whoever can figure this out so that I can have the Mms.apk that I want.
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda premium
Almost hate to bump such an old post of mine, however still have been unable to figure out how to modify my prefered mms.apk to work as the stock mms does. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tried the alternative messaging programs out there and none are what i'm looking for...

Cant find Fujitsu arrow s widget

Wondering if anyone out there has seen the new Fujitsu arrow s range of phones, Google images and you will see on the home screen there is a widget. The widget has time date weather pedometer etc on it, I've been trying for months to find it but with no luck anyone have any ideas where I can get it as its a all in one home screen clock. So far I've googled it emailed Fujitsu with no luck, asked Fujitsu uk mobile phone dept who didn't even know the phones were coming to Europe. Hope the good guys and gals on xda can help me.

try to put them in your app folder with root explorer and set permissions
They are in my downloads folder like all rest of the apps and when I try to set permissions I tick all the boxes and OK it then still wont install. If I go back into permissions they have default back to how they were before I ticked all the boxes. What's the best root explorer and easy way to change permissions.

They go into the DCIM folder and depending on the settings of the camera at the time of the photo, one of the subfolders of DCIM. They aren't stored in other locations unless specified by a third party camera app.

Like rorty said they should all be in DCIM or in sub folders inside DCIM. I know you can hide things on your sdcard from the gallery by adding a . In front of the name. So if I want to hide LinuxImages from gallery I would name it .LinuxImages. so see if he has hidden folders with the pictures.

What app are you using? Stock gallery app - if so what android version? (gingerbread, ics...later? (might be helpful since we don't have that device...)
Something to consider - and may be what is the case - they could be pictures no longer there.
A thumbnail of each picture is saved into a thumbnails database - once there it kinda becomes independent of the picture. The gallery is actually displaying whatever is in the thumbnails database, and could be showing pictures long gone. It does happen at times.
I like to use QuickPic as my gallery app (it's awesome!) and it stores the thumbnail database in /sdcard/Android/data/com.alensw.PicFolder
See if you can track down the thumbnail database for your gallery app and (back it up first!!!!!!!!!) delete it.
Next time you open the gallery app it should generate a new, current thumbnail database showing you more accurately what is on the device.
After that, long press on a specific picture in the gallery might get you a pop up menu you can select a details or properties option from? That should tell you (one at a time...) where to find each picture.
Note: thumbnails are tiny, low resolution copies of the picture and not what you want to end up with, just one clue on the path of finding what you are looking for.
Hope this helps some.
