SD card problem, I can see external folder but cannot access card, what's wrong? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I just installed the Tiamat 1.4.3 kernel but I can't seem to access my SD card at all.
I can flash via CWM so I know my SD card is working.
But after I booted into Honeycomb and used multiple file managers to try to access my SD, I can only see the sdcard/external folder but that folder always empty which is not suppose to be empty.
I need some help here....

It's not hot swappable. Take the card out, turn device off, put SD card in, boot up.

You are right

I have the same problem and it's not because I was trying to hot swap it. I do notice the "external" folder has no execute permissions and you cannot change it.

Sd usb flashreader kill xda data ?

I wanted to put some music on my sd card and i turned off my xda and took the sdcard and put it in my usb1.1 6-1 flash reader. Then I noticed that it was filled with odd corrupt files. It looked as if my valid programs on the SD card, mainly those installed using 'choose SD' in activesync, were dead
the sd is 256MB and 3 of the corrupted files in the root of the sd card
claim to be 1.3GB
I didn't format the sdcard when i got it the xda could read it just fine and i copied files from my mem to the SDflash and later on used activesync to install on it. So since this all happen after I put the sdflash in the flash reader. Could it be that causing it ?
This is not on a 2003 ROM so it's not related to any of those issues.
I make sure that before I remove my sd card from the card reader that I right click on the drive in "my computer" and click "eject", this seems to flush any cached or delayed write files and close any open files, give it a try and see if it prevent it happening again.
well i doubt thats the problem because i noticed those corrupted files when i plug'd the sdcard into the PC not when i put it back into the xda
i dident eject the card before taking out the sdcard of the pc
but i did turn off the pc which should result in pretty much the same thing
how do you guys take out the Micro SD card from the phone....do u guys just push the card and it eject or how? I can't seem to find a way to do it? Could my unit/device be bad?? please help thanks

"path is too deep to copy files"

well i formatted my SD card because i had to partition it, so i backed up all the contents on my SD to my computer.
the partitioning went well, but now i have a blank SD card. and whenever i try to copy back the stuff from my computer to the SD card, i get some weird error like "the path is too deep to copy the file" or something along those lines.
i tried it thrice, but each time it failed. i don't have a card reader, so i was copying using the standard USB wire.
any suggestions as to what i should do?
I had this once go to my computer then right click your sd card then click on properties then click on hardware then click on ST340015A (may be different but it's should be close) then click on properties then click policies and the bit where it says enable write cache if it's a tick then untick it and restart if there is no tick then tick it and restart. Hope it works for you.

Pull down the notification bar.press the mass mount storage.and then press connect.Hope it will solve your promblem.Or just go and buy a SD Card reader.it happens when partitioned your SD card.
Its an effect of sd partitioning...
Copy files in small amounts like 5 folders at a time...
I have this problem whenever I flash a custom kernel, now I use dual mount sd widget I don't face any such problem...
Hello
you are welcome
You can also use Long Path Tool to sort out this problem.

[Q] Backing up to external SD card for SafeStrap V3

I'm having the worst time trying to find out how to friggin' backup my phone to my external sd card. For some reason, I can do it to my internal storage, but have no way of getting it backed up to my external SD card. I can see the option to select it, but I can't actually select it. I think I have to create a folder on my external SD card for the root but I just can't figure it out. Does the whole entire SafeStrap file need to be copied over to my SD cars as well with a repeat process of installing it the same way in which I did for the internal storage too?
Have you tried backing it up then manually copy pasting it to your sd card?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
I have not, as I assumed that while that might be an option, that if I cannot select the external storage option then something is wrong with SafeStrap. If all I have to do is manually copy it over to my external SD card, and with that done Safestrap can still function OK, then that is what I can do. I thought there was something smaller I might have been missing, so I wanted to make sure it was done accurately. Thanks for the input!
EDIT: My real worry with this, is that if I cannot select external SD storage, then how will I select the files I need to install when flashing ROM? I don't have enough space on my internal storage for the files, and would have to put them onto my external SD card, but if I can't select it then I have no clue how I'll be able to flash the ROM.

I thought I had the same issue and mashed the radio button a bunch of times out of frustration and it eventually worked. It's like the touch isn't as responsive in that area of the screen when in SS.
Well, I got the ROM to work. Since my internal storage is only 5 GB, I couldn't leave both the backup file and the ROM zip files on the same storage device, so I moved the backup manually to my external SD and left the ROM.zip on my internal. I flashed them, got the ROM to work but when I opened it up and booted, as I expected, the phone is like new (nothing installed like I originally had it). Well, I can't restore the backup since it is on my external SD card and since I can't still select that option under SafeStrap, I'm kind of in a pickle here. As well, I my computer couldn't recognize my phone either when on the new CM10 ROM. I'm just going ROM this weekend. If any of you have any clue how to get my computer to recognize my phone when booted on the CM10 ROM, or know how to get SafeStrap to allow me to select my external SD card for storage etc I would much appreciate it!!

Stock rooted - sd card strangeness

Well, I stock rooted yesterday, and all went well, except for my sd card.
I did the "wipe" stock rooted and removed my sd card before doing so, so that I would lose the items on the sd card. But a couple folders are missing/hiding or I can't see them.
I'm missing the Camerazoom folder that had all my images in it, as well as all the music that I've had on my sd card. I've had the music on that card for over 3 years, and now I can't seem to find it.
Would this be hidden somehow? Is there a Windows app that will let me view all the items on my sd card while it's in the phone? I have the drivers installed and I can peruse my card and my phone, but am not finding either folder using this method.
Please advise and thank you.
Hey wolfgrrl,
Can you directly connect to computer or
use an SD Reader to check for the files.
This will verify if they are there or not.
Sometimes (and I have seen this happen before)
just removing the SD Card (for about a minute) then
replacing it may fix it 4U.:victory:
Just remember to turn off phone first, then remove
battery, then remove SD Card. Reverse order and turn
on phone.
Hope This Helps:fingers-crossed:
Unfortunately, that did not work. :crying:
I don't have a reader for a card this small. Such is life.

[Zte max xl/Adoptable storage]: Phone in restart loop when formatted sd card inserted

When my phone was running out of storage i fomatted my 32gb sd card on it as internal storage, the was simple without any trouble after i moved my files on the sd storage (they was about 2gb), till now everything was fine, BUT after some days i wanted to putsome big files on the phone and i see it was slow to transfer files i decided to unmount the sd card for transfer quickly with an adapter, it's at the time i realized that the sd will be working only on the phone,
so i passed away and decide to transfer the files a next time, when i put the sd on the phone it seem freeze and restarted, i don't panic and leave it to do his job and then when the phone was completely power on after about 20 - 30 sec it restarted again and it repeat it again and again. when uninserted the sd it start normally and stay power on
If i try to insert the formatted sd card it go back to a restart loop
If i insert any other sd card it stay on, but i can't acces file on him with some app
If i power off the phone and insert the formatted sd card the restart loop begin
So now i want to know what can i do to not lose my files on the sd card, when im searching on the web it seem is not a trouble very popular cause i don't see ANY thread or article who for the problem (or i don't use the good keyword )
If someone was facing this problem please let me know how you solved it (if it can be solved)
Anybody for help?? I really need to save my files to not lose them
