[Q] 32GB Micro SD Cards? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Does anyone use a 32GB micro SD in their device? I'm looking to get a class 10 32GB micro SD but I'm not sure what brand/manufacturer to go with or where I can get the best price. Basically, my main priority is to get a safe, reliable, and fast (class 10 preferably) 32GB micro SD. I've never been too educated in the SD memory market, so I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Thanks in advance!

Sandisk is always a good choice. As for class 10, I'm not sure why you need one that speedy. I have 32GB class 2 card and it is plenty fast enough for my g2x.

Oh really? Well that's good to know. (Like I said I'm not too knowledgeable about SD cards.) I'll look up SanDisk on Amazon, I figured they would be a good source. Thanks!
I also found this: http://www.amazon.com/Lexar-MicroSD...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1306885736&sr=1-1 (as far as class 10 ones go) and the reviews seem to be pretty good. Does anyone know if that manufacturer (Lexar) is reliable?

Here's a few good options. I personally have a 32gb wintec class 10, and that cards been a champ since day one. Class 4 cards are good enough especially since i believe android is limited to class 4 speeds

Thanks a lot! I think I'll go for the wintec class 10 based on your recommendation. That's an interesting observation about Android, but since I'm going to be using the SD card with different devices in the future, I figured I might as well go for the best.

I have a 32gb kingston class 4 and its been running pretty good.

i have two. A class 4 Sandisk and a class 10 Adata. The sandisk seems to work the best. I lost my data on the Adata 3 times and had to return one DOA. While the Adata did have really good speeds it just didnt seem reliable.

Iv never used a 32 but iv had an 8 and a 16 made by A~Data, and have no complaints

dont trust any brands u dont know meng.. there are tonnes of fake cards out there so the best thing to do is to buy from the stores the guys have listed up top.. but if u happen to buy from eBay: here are a list of things to look out for
1) the brand name is Kingston, Sandisk, AData or Lexar - those are known and trusted brands to work with.
2) the class of the disk is displayed on the microSD Card and the class relates to a price - if its a class 10 and its cheap - beware.. safest bet is to go with either a class 4 or a class 6
3) Insure that the Serial number is displayed on the microSD Card.. if you dont see a serial number then ask for one and check via google to insure that it is legit
that is how i got this wicked awesome 32GB Kingston card from eBay for 20 bucks.. i had a 32GB class 10 card from memorex but couldnt make a ext partition with it and thats how i discovered that it was fake

Dane-Elec and Transcend are fine and I am using them in GTab and X10.
I also have Sandisk and using it in G2x.

I have a 32g class 10 from Kingston. It works flawlessly, and you can see the speed improvement. Pick one up here.

Just picked up a ADATA 32gb fron newegg on sale for 49$ + free shipping (Class 4).

are the new microsdch cards compatible with the touch pro
I've never heard of those, but micro sdhc cards work fine , I'm using an 8mb one
i think sdhc cards are min 4GB dont think anybody feel that 8MB cards are that high capacity
i dunno....it's pretty high capacity for something smaller than my little fingernail
I'm about to purchase a microsd for my HTC Touch pro and i'm between :
Kingston 8gb SDHC class 4
http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=170972
and
SanDisk 8gb SDHC class 2
http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=158255
and
Expansys 8gb SDHC class 2
http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=164646
Now the question is will the HTC support any of the 3 and why the heck is the class 4 kingston lower cost than the other two seeing as its supposed to be faster ? :/
Dunno. Kingston are usually cheaper than sandisk anyway, and i wouldn't touch Expansys' own brand stuff with a bargepole.
Oh and yeah, it should work fine.

Yep, they'll all work. Go for the Kingston. Class 4 is indeed faster. Probably cheaper because it's newer stock (you can tell from the Expansys stock code).
Expansys never seem to reduce prices on accessories like these. They go in at a certain price, and stay at the same price 'til they're all gone. By the way, hold out for a couple of weeks (hopefully?) and you should be able to pick up a 16Gb MicroSD for about £50...
Oh, and if you hit Google, you can usually find a £10 Expansys voucher knocking around for purchases over £20...
EDIT: Just looked at the links, The SanDisk one is Class 4 as well, so I'd probably go for that one, as they're the same price, and I've had loads of flawless SanDisk cards over the years...

Yeah, Expansys are kinda expensive. Try mobymemory, I've always had an excellent experience with them.

8GB Class 4 SanDisk WITH card reader, loads cheaper. Plus when they say it's in stock, you can be pretty certain that it actually is.
Hi, regarding the different speed classes of the micro sdhc cards:
Does it always make sense to use the fastest card and does this really affect the performance according the cards speed class?
I mean does anybody know about the maximum speed of the card interface of the touch pro? I'm thinking to buy the SanDisk Ultra (class 6)
Within the device itself, the class of the card won't matter too much. A class 4 is probably comparable to a class 6, and certainly wont make a difference when it comes to playing mp3s or viewing pictures. But a class 6 card will certainly make file transfers faster on to/off of the card using a PC (best results if you use a separate usb/card adapter and not "disk mode" on your Touch Pro).
For reference, I'm using A-DATA Class 6 8gb MicroSDHC, works perfectly and no errors. Available for $31 at Newegg (if you're in US).
sandisk class 4 sdhc microsd 8 GB is the fastest at the moment and you can get it for 33 euro.. works fantastic..

Kingston SD cards

Has anyone here had any experience with kingston sd cards? Just bought a class 4 16g card from newegg for 35 including shipping.. The reviews were pretty good and I know theyre a pretty big company so I think i'll be ok but wanted to see if anyone here could confirm or deny this
*I'm just sayin...
ive got a pny 16 gig, and it works great. i know kingston makes good ram, so id imagine that a kingston sd card would be worth its money, and i cant see a big brand memory product being garbage, especially in 2011. that price is a win no matter what though.
How much was the card? I would love a bigger card. And what did y'all do to transfer memory from one card to the next?

If you have the moola, get this from Newegg, it's Class 10 so faster speed
WINTEC 32GB Micro SDHC FileMate Mobile Professional SDHC Model 3FMUSD32GBC10-R
It's around $82.49 with free shipping.
I've read a few reviews on Wintec cards, and not a lot of them are good. They work fine at first, then start to degrade quickly. To top it off, people say that when they try to get it replaced through Wintec, Wintec claims that its user error or abuse.

He said in the OP that its $35 and free shipping.
I have 16GB for two years already and now i bought 32 gb ... both are working well so far.
16gb are going from $22-$35 shipped right now - class 10 speeds. Pick one up if you are using the stock 8gb. I just ordered one myself.
I've used two different Kingston SD Cards. They worked well for me without any issues. My previous was an 8gb Kingston class 4 and I currently have a Kingston 16gb Class 4 card.
The 8GB is nearly 2 years old and is working just fine. Have used it in multiple cell phones and currently serves as a flash drive for work using an adapter. The 16gb works just as well with some added space.

From my experience I would have to agree on the class. To be honest, I think even a quality class 2 card would do just fine on a mobile device.
The class is an indication of the minimum Write Speed (class 4 = 4mb/s class 6 = 6mb/s, etc) The Read speed is generally much higher than that, so even if you are running applications from the SD card, performance shouldn't be hindered by a lower class card.
The only instance I can think of that performance would be affected is if you record a lot of 720P video with your phone. In that case, a faster write speed *Should* help with stuttering issues.
Now if we were talking about a high end SLR camera, then hell yes, speed makes a huge difference. I run a Kingston Class 6 in my SLR and it handles everything just fine, including HD video.
Just my 2 cents...
Well,
What it really comes down to is how fast the SD card adapter is in our phones, which I haven't figured out yet. If it'll fully utilize a class 10 card in terms of max write speed, then I would totally go for a class 10 card.
Can anyone verify the max speed our phones could support? (No guesses, please)

I like Samsung cards personally. The performance has always been well above it's rated speed, and I've never had one corrupt/fail on me.

Must have been a promotion. My shipping was free. ANd to update everyone else it works like a charm. Dont really notice anything as far as normal phone function because I dont store apps on SD but My Titanium, Nandroid, and Just general SD backups to the PC are noticably faster.
Kingston is dead to me...
So, used to be a big proponent of Kingston, but they've seriously slipped over the last couple years (and not just flash, I've had major problems with their desktop memory, too, but that's a story for another forum). I bought the SDC4/32GB from Newegg. Supposed to be 32GB class 4 card. Wow. First one they sent wrote at 2MBps, read at 3MBps. Sent it in for a replacement, and I got one that wrote at 3MBps and read at 3.5MBps. Tried formatting it with my phone, with the official sdformatter utility, with Windows, with Linux, nothing helped. Third replacement was back down to 2/3MBps. Hardly class 4. And no, it wasn't my device or anything like that. I've got an actual class 4 8GB Sandisk card that came stock with my phone, and it does 5/7MBps on the same devices on which I tested the Kingston. And the Sandisk can record 720p without stuttering. Recordings from the Kingston were like watching a slideshow.
Very much done with that. Sent it back (again), got a refund, and now I've ordered that class 10 Wintec 32GB. Curious to see how it performs, and I'll stress it right away to see how it handles in the long run (do a bunch of writes and reads the first week to make sure it won't crap out right away). I'll report back here with my results, but they can't be worse than the Kingston. And from what I've read, it may be hit or miss, but when I get a hit, it'll be a class 10!

Best 32GB Micro SD for Infuse

Hello...
What do I need to look for when purchasing a 32GB Micro SD card for the Infuse? A specific "class"? Speed? Etc?
Thanks...

I've read good things on sandisk 32 class 2 & 4. Im using a 16gb class 6 that I got from bb for 35 bucks. Works great.

Anything not sold over ebay or amazon 3rd parties!
Does class really matter for a phone like the Infuse? I've read conflicting reviews, saying that anything over class 2 doesn't provide any benefit to the Infuse, and others who swear that anything below Class 6 is terrible for the Infuse. Are there any official stances on this?
I purchased the SanDisk 32GB Micro SDHC Flash Card Model SDSDQM-032G-B35N
and it is a class 2.
I copied the contents of my 16GB card to it and rebooted the phone. I'd say for the next 12-18 hours, it was very slow and choppy. But after that, and to this moment, it is working just fine.
Wonder what the slow down was after the initial install of it?

I'm looking to get the SanDisk class 2 32gb. Is it still acting fine for you? I also seen PNY class 10's "for tablets" for about $10 cheaper than the sandisk is. Wondering if I should go for that or stick with the SanDisk.
Happy with my class 2 32G SanDisk for the last two years
I've used it in a BB Bold, then the Captivate when it came out, and now on the Infuse.
It has always worked great, I manly use it for music storage, but also have about 6G of maps ( for using the GPS outside cell reception).
I'm very happy with it.

not sure how fast the infuse can read but i can tell you in actual benchmarks it is posible to have a class 2 read as fast as a class 6, many cheaper cards are faster than they are rated. also im pretty sure android is designed to minimize i/o. i guess it all depends on the complexity and size of the apps you run off of it and how fast the phone is. when someone says a class4 is good they are basically saying dont waist your money. i tend to agree with that.
I highly doubt the controller in the Infuse has a maximum transfer rate that even comes close to class 6 or maybe not even class 4. The only advantage to the high speed cards is if you put the card in your PC and copy files to it (assuming your SD reader can even handle the higher rates).
That being said I bought the A-Data class 10 16GIG because it was only $20 after coupon a couple weeks ago from Meritline but I have no doubt a class 4 or even 2 would be just fine with no noticeable performance difference.
It's no different that putting a SATA3 drive on a SATA2 controller.

yeah I may just go with the Sandisk 32gb class 2. It's about $12 more expensive than the Adata 32GB class 10's but those are sold out at the moment and Sandisk is a better company IMO anyway.
I've been using a Transcend 32GB Class4 Micro SDHC from newegg. It's amazing! It works great! Fast, large and just straight up works with the phone. Formatted memory for me is 31.6 gigs. Highly recommend it.
Adata 32GB Class 10 in my GS2, Infuse and Berry, no complains here. Transfer speeds much better than Class 2 card that came with phone...at least for my Berry that i regularly use transferring files for work.

Exactly this. Someone over in the HD2 section ran several VERY thorough tests confirming that there's very little difference in a class 2 or class 10 card unless you put the card in an adapter directly.

But the apps launch and run fine. I have no idea if it is the card or not.

Q: Large micro SDHC Cards

Hello guys and gals,
I am starting to feel the pinch with an 8 Gb memory card and wondered if anyone had found a good, cheap and compatible 16 or 32 Gb micro SD cards for the Desire S.
EBay seems to have some 32gb cards for about 10 GBP which sounds insane.
Anyone got a suggestion for this UK Desire S user?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
You don't want a cheap one, spend those 30€ on a class 10 card. It's well worth it its faster and will probably not die on u as some cheap one might.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Do NOT buy cards from ebay. They will always be fake, when they arrive they will say 32gb but if you perform a scan with a tool it shows its actual capacity to be 1gb! Don't fall for it like I did!
Just use google shopping and search for the cheapest price for a memory card from a reputable site.
In fact, I see you're in the UK and theres a good deal on from play:
http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/16710254/Lexar-16GB-Micro-SDHC-Memory-Card-Class-4/Product.html
I bought a 16GB class 6 about half a year ago for £18 so this is a pretty good deal.
From experience classes dont make much of a difference at all, maybe miniscule. This card comes with a 5 year warranty so no need to worry about it dying on you.
I ordered a 16gb class 10 y/day from play for £17.99 It's Pny but will do the job
Cheers for the replies. I thought eBay would have been a rip but you never know with that place, some crazy deals happen and we miss them because we fear them (and quite rightly 99% of the time).
Might pounce on the 16 Gb Class 10 from Play.com.
Anyone know if the Desire S can take 32Gb cards and are there any good deals on those? Best I've found is £38, give or take pennies.
Far as I know yeah it can handle a 32gb
Yes, it can! =)
Mine is MicroSDHC 32GB Transcend Class4 (TS32GUSDHC4). Works good.
I got my 16 Gb today and its working fine
Did anyone tested an A-DATA / KINGMAX 16GB, class 10?

I bought a Samsung 16GB Class10 microSD, works like a charm...
bought a sandisk 16gb class 4, everything is running fast and without problems, don't know if you would "feel" a higher class at all
I spent a lot of time looking on the 'net for a reasonable price 32GB card.
Saw plenty on Ebay but many looked untrustworthy (had a bad experience before!)
Eventually collected a 32GB Class 4 card for £35 from Novatech, local to me.
The Novatech card I got turned out to be Integral brand with 5 year warranty.
It's actually a Toshiba manufactured card made in Japan, so I'm happy with it.
The camcorder app seems to work better with the Class 4 card than it did with the supplied Samsung 8GB Class 2.
I bought Toshiba 16gb class 4 and it is good working.
Been using a 16 GB Class IV Transcend Micro SD card, everythings been peachy so far. Finding a legit 32 GB Class IV Micro sd card is so hard here in my neck of the woods.

hi... so sandisk 64gb UHS-I microsd card works with fascinate on a custom rom... will be any speed difference with the original class 10 microsd cards (non UHS-I) or what do you think about SanDisk Extreme Pro microSD UHS-I 16gb? it's say that it can read up to 95 mbps... will our fascinate be able to use that speed? or it's just some marketing strategy because I read somewhere the sandisk itself claiming that UHS-I are equivalent with class 10...

class 2 do not work well if at all in most all ICS, Jellybean Roms... you need to have at least a class 6, and with pricing these days class 10 8GB or 16GB can be had for cheap
I know you have posted about laggyness on nearly all the roms you tried,,, this is probably a main upgrade you should plan on if you want to get off of stock EH03 verizon goodness

I read somewhere the sandisk itself claiming that UHS-I are equivalent with class 10...

Only because there is no class 12 or 14 etc. UHS-1 cards are considerably faster than the first class10 cards (at least at synchronous read), but the class system considers anything faster to still be class 10, because there is no faster class. Some Sandisk cards return status7 errors when flashing roms to our phones, but it seems to be hit&miss from one card to another.

yep.. 100% agree... prior to my posting sometime ago, i decided to try 32 sandisk UHS-1 card... it's faster than my class 10 transcend but seems only a very little bit... wouldn't waste my money for the extreme pro UHS-1...
I just put my 64gig SanDisk Extreme Plus UHS-3 in it and it's reading it fine... On stock 2.3.5.

Man, thanks for this comment. I cant seem to get any rom to flash without error on a PNY class 10 64gig. In have a SanDisk class10 64 and that SanDisk UHS-3 64 I can try, but what if I were to format the card with my phone I wonder....would it work then? Guess I'll try it.
