Your going to have to be more specific, either that or you just dont realize how dlna work. Dlna does exactly what you said, stream music so you can "hear whats on comp on android", and upnplay is a dlna app. I used 2player. Just throwing it out there Air Bubble turns Android into an airport (iOS). So can you elaborate on why dlna will not work for you?
I think VLC can be made to stream anything the PC is playing to another device on the network.

its your lucky day.*I'm not advertising* Splash top is on sale for $1 on the android market. Just search for it. Its like VLC but streams audio and video from the pc to your phone.
I think the guy is asking for an app that acts like a bluetooth A2DP headset, so the desktop OS can connect and output audio via the 'headset'.
Its streaming, but not application specific!!
What i mean is that if i play a game like HoN or GTA IV or playing music on my computer i want all audio to come out to my android device like an wireless transmitter and reciver.. So i just can plug my galaxytab or desire hd to my stereo and hear my computer audio/sound.

It basically turns the phone into a wireless sound station. Does anything like this exist for Android?
So you want to be able to access and play music stored on a local network?

In a sense yes, what the app does from my understanding is allows any audio coming out of the speaker to be streamed. So you can listen to the same audio simultaneously on your pc and your phone. So it doesn't just have to be music it can be audio from youtube clips or videos as well.
I have used the htc app to play music on my phone to my computer....but can it work the other way? There is a tab on the far right in the music app to connect to a computer, but it never connects. Has anyone here been able to accomplish this?
It works for me.My phone sees all 3 of my pc's,2 xbox 360's and a ps3.And my tversity and twonky servers.

Did you set up the sharing in media player? I guess my issue may be a firewall issue....which if so... I'd probably just give. Firewalls can be a *****.
I already had media sharing setup prior to getting the phone.

Through the regular connected media app I can see my PC which has Serviio installed and can play Video (not all formats), music and pictures. My samsung C6500 bluray player which is also DLNA enabled does not see Inspire though.
I installed iMediaShare app from the market, now my C6500 bluray can see the phone, I can browse the folders on my Inspire and can play video/music and pictures.

Yeah, I can get music and videos to stream to my pc, but not the other way. I think the media share is set up that way, but the music app seems to be able to play music from the pc on the inspire. That gives me a permission error. I have enabled all of the settings in media player, but no dice....either its cool, but wish I could listen to my pc music on my inspire.
I forget which port it was but I had to manually set it up in the port forwarding tab for my network to have it so all my devices (xbox,ps3,etc) would be able to access my full media library. Maybe the phone needs the same thing.

is there a media player app that can play music directly from your computer over network?
gMote 2.0 has this feature though it is very buggy and a pain to use sometimes.

Depending on your device and what software is already installed on your computer, "UPnPlay" will add universal plug and play to your phone if not present, allowing you to connect to many different UPNP devices over wi-fi. This allows my Droid to connect to Windows Media player to play just about anything (audio/video) in my library. Should have been included in all 2.2 builds in my opinion.

Audiogalaxy for sure. Its amazing.
thanks, audio galaxy is just what i needed.
Plex is pretty good for video streaming
Audiogalaxy does audio well but is less perfect from the video streaming point of view
DLNA
I'm using J. River Media Center with the Android Gizmo app to stream media (it's free on the Market). So I can use my Desire HD as the server or client and send media anywhere in my home over wifi. Solid app but takes a bit of setting up to start.. and the Windows client is not free.
Winamp has such a feature as long as you install winamp on your system and setup it's network player it should be really easy.

I've tried them all. I gave up my zune since I didn't want to update it or delete music for new stuff. I'd rather have access to my music anywhere.
Audiogalaxy- first thing I tried. It didn't pick up all my music regardless of how many times I redid the library. The audio quality was ok but it was a really basic app and website.
Homepipe- useless since it only streams if the app is active. Hit home and you're sitting in silence.
Subsonic- didn't try it too long. Another basic app.
Jukefly- still using this. Love it. It installed on my htpc no problem and the app is nice outside of having to manually force close the service. Quality is adjustable by network type. It picks up my music, and adds new stuff without having to refresh the library. The Internet app is great foo. If your server is off it will still display your library but stream the audio from youtube. I highly recommend it.

I usually just mount my music network share with cifs manager, then any app can access the files on the share.
I see that the thread is relatively old, but maybe some of the people still have their setups working.
Did you do something special to the setup on Windows, because I would like to do more or less the same, but neither my computer sees my phone nor the other way around.
I have another UPNP-server in my Wifi which can be used by my phone as well as my computer, but what I would love to do is tell my computer to play what's on the server using my phone as remote. It worked nicely with mpd and mpDroid, but I would love to have this setup also work with Win7...
Any hints?
Does anyone know of a way to watch streaming video on your laptop from your Thunderbolt? So lets say I am streaming video from JetFlicks, is there a way to watch the samething on my laptop monitor? Basically a monitor out.
Use the connected media app. I guess that would only work if you had it downloaded it to your phone...

He is talking about getting the video to play, not how to share the internet connection.
I know you can do it the other way around, from a pc to the TB, but i'm not sure if there is a way to do what you are trying to do.
Can't vlc/vnc do this

What can a TB stream, that a PC can't? i.e. why stream it on the TB and display it on a PC, when you can just stream it directly on the PC?

I'm with you on that, don't understand, but its something the OP is asking about.
Yes, the TB has DLNA support for streaming from the phone to your computer or TV provided you have the phone and PCs connected to the same WiFi network.
In the media gallery click the video you want to stream, then press menu, select player, and your pc should show up if you have Windows media player open and the settings set for streaming.
You can also use an app to stream like Twonkey, but be prepared to download a PC server version to your pc as well.
The question is about displaying video being streamed to the TB on a PC. I don't think it can be done. A DLNA server on the TB (like twonkey) will stream media files to a PC (no special client needed on Win7, just use WMP), but I don't think you can pass through a stream to a stream.
oh, I see what he meant now. Technically you can stream a stream, depending on the app. For "tv streams" and "movie streams" if you stream from a server (not Megavideo) that allows you to use an outside video player you can. These are the only two apps I personally know of that allow it though.

My BluRay player and TV are DLNA and yet my the Connected Media app can NEVER find the devices. Has anyone ever get this to work?

to stream tv well i was wrongish on tversity orb might work better but tversity can stream any video file on your comp with proper setup of course .
so if you have a tv capture card and windows 7 this = DVR capability ie stream shows that are recorded not so much stream on the go.
I was wondering what you guys have going on in regards to remotely controlling your media collection on a htpc... I mostly use wmp but just thought I'd ask around and see what u guys have set up for the xoom... thanks

I am using XBMC as my front end for my HTPC. On the Xoom I am running a few different apps to help the experience.
- I have an App called "Remote Launcher". Basically this app allows me to start XBMC whenever I want with a click of the button I have it setup to also launch a playlist within Media Player. Since I have a dual zone surround sound I tend to have music play throughout the house while someone is watching a movie up in the Loft.
- I have an App called "Unified Remote" Basically this allows me to control my HTPC and acts as a mouse and keyboard. Works flawlessly. Can be used with many different apps, but I mainly use it for Windows Media Player. I can be downstairs, use Remote Launcher to launch my playlist, and then use this app to control it. No need to ever turn the TV on to see
- I have an App called "XBMC Remote" Basically this app is a remote for XBMC. It allows me to start any Movie, TV Show, or Music I want from the Xoom. The best part about this app is that I can once again be downstairs and I can see what is being played on the HTPC up in the Loft. If the neighbor kids are being too loud and not watching the movie, then I can just pause it, and then wait for them to calm down before I start it again. They think I am magic.
- I have an App called "SubSonic" I mainly use this on my EVO phone to stream music in the car from my HTPC, but I can also stream my movies to the Xoom when I am not at home
Overall the Xoom has been a GREAT edition to my HTPC.
Ken~
Thanks for the reply... I will try these out this weekend see how everything works! I appreciate the reply...
