If nobody has heard there is a hack for ps3 which allows you to run homebrew and install and run games to/from the internal HDD and external USB.
There was some company selling some device for a ripoff $150 and now since they started that the source code got out and others have duplicated this to run on different USB developer boards and now on a cellphone, the N900 and also I heard someone got it working on a Palm Pre..
Anyone wanna give it a shot to see if it works?
There was a post somewhere on psx-scene that someone was working on a Android port and I think a psp port.
Would be pretty sick if it does get ported to Android and if we can use our phones to store backups.
The port to Android will just allow u to run and install the backup app. From there on u can back up and play your games off the ps3 hard drive.

Really interested in this, I don't feeling like taking the time to root my brother's pre.
Sounds like the android port is up and running on several android devices (Desire, Nexus 1, Dream) at the time of this post.

Any chance the available source can be used to get this working for our Incredible devices?

from another thread in the android section. anybody willing to try this? it says it won't work on sense based phones, yet the desire is listed so maybe it'll work on an incredible with cm6?
Looking forward to this being ported to the incredible. Absolutely amazing idea.

Tried and failed....
Am running CM 6.0.2 and after flashing PS3-signed.zip the phone would get stuck on the white HTC screen. I had to restore my boot partition from a nandroid backtup to get up and running again.
Didn't work for me on Skyraider 3.1
Looks like someone will have to compile that module for our device. Wish I knew how to do it.

Im fairly new to this section of the forums most of my hangout is on the Gtablet side. But what is needed to get this phone up to gingerbread? What are we lacking?
ohhh please...
sent from sgs4g
Not getting the sarcasm here? I asked a simple question which is not anywhere in this development forum I searched. The Gtab came with 2.2 and has successfully been updated to 2.3 and they are now working on a honeycomb port missing on a few things atm. Whats holding the s4g back?
I believe people are going to get upset with you posting this here.
We are missing the neccesary files from Samsung.

From a development point... What is still needed to get this ball rolling? I think the question is appropriate for the development section as its not "who is working on gb" or "is CM coming".
Definetly should be in the general section, but the main thing were missing is a final version of CWM and the devs, the ones we have are great but there time is consumed doing other things. I assume its going to be a while before we get any good roms
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Just to add I don't think anyone is working on froyo roms much less gb. Point of this story is if you want custom roms ditch this phone
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
There is no GB development, because there are almost no developers for this phone.
The two active developers don't even have a SGS 4g (well, krylon has a loaner)....
I thought the biggest reason would be that we have no gingerbread updated from Samsung that are compatible with our phone. In order to get gingerbread right now, we would have to port over one from another Samsung device and then make it compatible with ours. Which isn't easy at all from my understanding.
That being said, we do have a small community.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
Understandable, but we dont need a source from samsung for gingerbread. Gtab devs made a GB rom without anything being compatible and are moving to honeycomb with out official support from nvidia or viewsong for either of these roms.
I guess Ill get back to working with the cyanogen I have now to start tweaking but CWM is working on my phone at least.

This is not to flame you, but any questions like this shouldn't be asked in development. It clutters the development forum. It needs to be posted in the "General" section.
This question has been asked there several times as well.
#1 Getting GB to work on any samsung phone currently is a monster of a task. Just read up on the nightlies that CyanogenMod is putting out now for the Captivate. Android 2.3.4 via CM 7 running on Captivate.
#2 The SGS4G is more similar to the Epic 4G than the Vibrant. That being said read what was said from ciwrl (CM Dev Team): "epic is slated for last…its full of nasty hacks"
Hope that answers your questions. Please post in General next time.
Are there even any ROMs out there for this phone? Is there even a CyanogenMod?

None at the moment. CWM is priority number one with the current Devs, although a few other mods coming out.
It hardly seems priority. Krylon put it on hold for Bionix and whatever project he's on now

For one, you have no idea what is going on.
For two, comments like that don't make any dev work faster. Devs have NO obligation to help the masses. Why piss off some one that is helping? Because your impatient? Relax bud. When its done its done. ;-)

Hey guys and gals, I'd like to get an idea for how much interest we have in buying a few infuse devices for some of the Cyananogen team and/or the Miui team.
I first want to understand how many people would be interested in this and thereafter i will reach out to some people to talk to Koush and company. You don't have to donate now just pledge a donation for a specific ROM.
The thought behind this is that if we can get either of these two teams or both of them a device the may not have considered once they spend time with such a beautiful device they will be more interested in development for ths phone sooner.
If we dont get enough interest in donations we'll just have to wait on a few devs to mosey on over here. Your choice!
here is an example where this worked well

There's a video tour at CyanogenMod's website that you can scope out here.
More info about MIUI can be located here.
As a new Infuse owner I really hope we can get some development going asap! I would def be up to donating if thats what it takes to get development started!!!

no matter it' sense, touchwiz, or motoblur, I always replace it with launcherpro.

im going down for $10 on cm7 or cm8 if ice-cream comes out. not that i'd even use it. the way i see it is that miui exists on the galaxy s using a cm kernel.the sgs miui will likely flash on this once we have a aosp kernel. miui could also be ported onto our base rom like it started for the fascinate but it is not as clean that way and means you will be behind the curve on os version. if we are gonna get a totaly custom non samsung rom it makes most sence to build it off the newest nexus sources so i think cm is the clear winner
$60 for CM7

this is already done it is the same as the captivate and is cake! just need root. you can delete or freaze tethermanager and the phone lets you use ap mode. i have it all over the tether thread but it's like people read the title and decide to put in their $.02 and not read the replies before them.
So I'm starting up a Youtube channel for tech-related stuff, and want to start it out with some Android and/or Infuse related videos. Some of these will be product reviews, whether for the phone itself, accessories, or Roms and apps, and some will be how-to videos for different things on Android.
What I need from you guys is suggested video topics for the first few videos. I'm thinking I'll definitely do a review on a couple Infuse Roms, and maybe a how-to on flashing a Rom, but other than that, it's wide open.
Thanks ahead of time for any input.

Here is something epic you could try. I did this on my Acer Tablet:
1) Download the wiimote controller app from the market as well as an NES emulator.
2) Connect your infuse via that little HDMI thing (so I don't know exactly what it is called, as us Canadians got the short end of the stick with this phone and don't get one) to your big screen TV
3) NES GAMES WITH WIIMOTE ON BIG SCREEN TV WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY GAMES FOR YOUR WII!
Although I am not sure if doing any of that stuff has any legal complications......
How bout "How to post in the correct section at XDA"?
Was that meant for me? This is Infuse related, after all.
YouTube vids really helped me. People like me want to upgrade from stock, want the latest most reliable, stock comes to mind. Rooting, Want to know how to over clock. Oh and not being too eager to post a new thread on best rom and kernel. Tho it's good question cos roms etc constantly upgrade.
First off, I want to say that I read the threads extensively, including the cm9 and nunhuggers uniporn threads and I know that neither rom, nor any other cm9 based rom has working Bluetooth.
I realized from what I've read so far that this is a major task and fixing it is going to be a pain, so please if you have an issue with this topic be nice or don't read it. Don't bash me for asking a question. I use Bluetooth and love the ics Roms that have been released so I gave up bluetooth use to use nunhuggers aokp rom which is amazing.
Allentown I want to know is IF anyone is actively working on a resolution for this issue.
Thanks in advance for any useful information you can provide and as always, thank you to all you developers out there for created such amazing roms for us infuse users.

As far as i know bluetooth is a kernel side problem...so.it would take a kernel dev to fix...and since entropy and jt are the only two.who have worked on ics kernel...id say they are the only two who may be working on bluetooth...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA
I've never worked on a Linux or Android Kernel - it's been almost a decade since I touched C/C++. I've often wondered the chances of a seasoned developer (C# here) who wasn't been around a lot of C/C++ development solving the bluetooth issue. In the end, learning some of these things comes down to brute force trial and error. However, it would be nice to know from an experienced kernel dev what we'd be up against - or where to start hammering.
Is this something one could do in the evening and get back to a usable phone by the next morning? I'd hate to have to pull out the candy-bar Nokia...but I bet it still works (and with awesome battery+voice quality)!
Also Hdmi would be nice

Just trying to put some of the different information together. I'd seen bits and pieces but wasn't aware of it all...
A previous thread in this forum showed that the Infuse uses the CG2900 by ST Ericsson.
In jt1134's ICS Rom thread, pdtp stated that the Sony Xperia Sola uses the NOVATHORTM U8500 which contains the CG2900. This phone is expected to be released with 2.3 Gingerbread but updated to 4.0 ICS.
Other device(s) have used the CG2900, with the attempt at integration discussed by LinuxBozo.
Alright, I've taken my first steps into a larger world. I've installed Linux to my laptop and I'm gonna see if I can start the long and seemingly complicated road to kernel development.
My ultimate goal is to attempt to create a kernel with HDMI out support, working Bluetooth, full HD video playback, and a few more needs for the Infuse that need fulfilling, including better battery life and greater wifi range quality.
I know it wont be easy at all considering the two ICS kernels we have are made by tried and true pros, but even they started somewhere, and made some mistakes. No greater teacher for software development than trial and error. Wish me luck folks.
Sent from my SGH-I997 aka subject 0, CM9 using xda premium
Best of luck to you. If you go out and search Google for CG2900 Snowball you'll see that even the original developers of the chip were seeking help determining how they should implement their driver. There's open issues with it under Linux as well. I'm amazed it made it into a phone in this kindof shape.
Perhaps that's why the hope is on the Sony phone - they've been fairly transparent as of late with source code drops on their Android phones. Maybe they'll take the time and clean up the driver for the phone?
Thanks, hopefully there is a way to integrate it. I've got a ton of reading to do, let me ask this, is a device's kernel limited to programming native to that device only? I.e., porting that bluetooth tree over to the Infuse? Or that of the Galaxy S II?

Thanks Mushroom. I want to just say that I'm not doing this because I'm unhappy with our current ICS Kernels, but because I want to give our devices more variety with development.
We're at the mercy of the kernel no matter how impressive the Rom, just imagine having full capabilities and having our community push out ICS original Roms and other devices seeking to port from us!!
