Do you think that Sense will ever be able to be ported to the Nexus S when it releases its Gingerbread update?
I know that the Galaxy S never managed to see Sense on it, but it would be sure nice to have that option I also know this would be a difficult port as it would involve an inter manufacturer jump. I think it was easier to put sense on the n1 due to it being an HTC phone I dont think i will feel the same need for TouchWiz on the Nexus S somehow

No idea. Just out of curiosity, WHY???

I for one would love to see SENSE on the NS ans SGS phones.
Sense is closed-source, meaning it would be illegal to port it. And because we're on the Internet, it will be done anyway.

Because something is closed source doesn't make it illegal to port. The problem is that Sense is a copyright work of HTC and therefore it's up to HTC whether or not third-parties are allowed to redistribute it, at present no.
However that still doesn't mean porting Sense is illegal. If you own a HTC Desire HD, dump the firmware, modify it to run on another device you own then that's perfectly legal. However, I'm not sure about the actual legalities of duplicating the firmware. You may be forced to remove the firmware from your HTC device so that you haven't created two copies. It really depends on what HTC's license says, assuming they even thought to include one.
Can anybody make a sense rom?
To work on nexus S....Pls just for kicks

I'm sure one will be released at some point. Sense has an aesthetically pleasing UI that a lot of android users find attractive. Seeing as the Nexus S was just released, however, just have to wait and be patient. I think that the openness of this device, coupled with it's "pure google" experience, will attract a lot of devs and a lot of customization options.

I think the N1 got the Sense ROMs only because it was easy to port it from the nearly identical HTC Desire device.
I'm not sure it will be that easy to do on the Samsung HW.
Does the SGS have such ROM? If so, then surly we'll be seeing one for NS soon.
It doesn't make Sense

Tango was updated today to support the Nexus S
And I only looked at this thread thinking it was a joke. You mean someone would seriously want to take a great phone and crap it up with Sense???? I don't understand that at all!
I though people stopped making sense ROMs because HTC didnt quite like that copyright infringment.
thats why the CM rom on the Evo doesnt have it
Does anyone know of Cm7 progress for the nexus s4g on sprint
Any info would be appreciated i looked on the cyanogen site didn't see anything.
Well someone who owns the phone will need to step up and agree to develop and maintain it.

Agree what you said. Many forumers tend to REQUEST REQUEST adn REQUEST yet only a few willing to try and give a flash to it.
?
That wasn't a request but a question.
Coming from the epic forums i thought this would be more adult.
Maybe i was wishing for a little too much.
But i digress, anyway i heard of a few people working on it but time will tell.
I am not a developer but will gladly donate the first $20.00 to buy a true Dev a nexus s to get it done.
I also would like an approx rough idea when we can expect Cyanogen stable working for our Nexus-S 4G ?
I heard it will be version 7.1 that has Android 2.3.4 code in it.
Have no idea when that is due? But I NEED Cyanogen on my Nexus, stock just blows and is limited. If CM 7.1 is not by the time the EVO 3D is out I am jumping back to HTC and dumping this Nexus

No, when the GSM version has a stable version so will we. The same developer is working on it for both.
Btw, this is the development forum. Its not for questions.
There isn't a Sense ROM for the nexus S 4G .. that I've heard of at least.
Here's the thread with most, if not all of the available ROMs as of now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071500
If you don't care about 4G, try out MIUI.
And use the questions and answers section, not development
edit: way beat me to it.
My bad y'all I'm new to this forum thing. I'm using miui now. Lol

I thought the point of this phone was to not have Sense...
Or Touchwiz, or whatever custom UI/framework OEMs put on their phones.
But especially Sense.

How come the gsm nexus s has more/cooler roms than the ns4g. Is there anyway or anyone who will port them over to the NS4G?

The GSM nexus s had a 4 month head start. It is also sold worldwide where the cdma version is only sold in the US.

So there is more roms to come to the ns4g in the future?
Yes, I in the meantime there is already some quality stuff.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
This is one time where i'm actually happy about the quality of the few ROMs for the NS4G vs the quantity of ROMs. I see MIUI (awesome, my favourite) and i think 3 or 4 other ROMs and they're all top quality stuff.
Being already AOSP i don't think there's much to change really.
The Quality is pretty good i love Miui i used to have it on my captivate but one of the main reasons why i got ns4g was because of the 4g but miui doesnt support it yet so i rather have a themed rom that has that working
Hi, all. I currently have an Epic 4G. But it is broken, (mic and phone speaker don't work at all) so I am entitled to a warranty replacement. This was an Asurion replacement so I talked to them. I asked them to give me a Nexus S 4G instead and I got it without too much problem. The rep I was talking to said he couldn't do it but his boss said yes without hesitation (maybe I should have asked for an Epic Touch 4G instead and seen what happened but I digress). If I am lucky the phone will arrive tomorrow but probably the next day.
Anyway, I am hoping that I can get some advice on this phone. How to root it? What Roms/Kernels are the best. Ect.
Thank you very much!
About which roms or kernels are the best, there's not an easy answer to that. Being the developer phones, the nexus line has a lot of people working on the source. This is good and bad, because there are a lot of cool things you can get on your phone, but a lot of stuff will not work. Often times there will be a tradeoff between getting bleeding edge updates and having a stable system.
That being said, NANDroid backup is your best friend. Before every flash, backup your entire phone's state. Then if nothing works, restore your backup and it is like nothing ever happened.
Well to start off, and always a good impression, is to search for the first request. Shouldn't be hard to find a thread about rooting a NS4G or a YouTube video. Just looks better on you.
As far as ROMS go, well Cyanogenmod is a well respected name in that realm. Also you could pick from any of the other hundreds of ICS Roms. Just make sure you get it from the Nexus S "4G" forum.
Dig around in the forums. Shouldn't take long to find a thread with the topics you are asking about.
Good luck and welcome to the Nexus club.

Best ROM hands down is gummy nexus. I promise you, you WILL not find a better ICS ROM for the NS4G. The kernel baked into the ROM is Mathkids 14.5 and works great.

And the is currently a one click root method in the NS4G forums. Check it out.

Unlock boot loader as soon as possible because it will erase everything on your phone including SD card.
As far as ROMs you've gotta use a ICS ROM. There's lot of great GB ROMs but you're not getting a Nexus to be stuck on last year's OS. CM9 Is currently my favorite. Lots of other ROMs have more tweaks like quad and octo locks but CM9 is the smoothest for me. But try em all, why not?
As far as kernels there are a lot of good options. Personally I like Steve Garden's latest. Has the best colors without using Voodoo so there's no annoying green flash when locking. But again, try em all!
Oh... and how to root? Well, it's basically "fastboot oem unlock" "fastboot flash recovery whateverrecoveryyouchoose.img" and flash the SU binary in recovery. Or just flash a ROM.
*if you didn't wipe /system and /boot it is NOT A FULL WIPE* (relax, it's a signature)

Agreed 1millon % that's what I run. Can't find anything better. Rom is super stable and battery life is insanely good.

It is all depend on how much budget you have. If you have a high budget, I would say look at the Galaxy Nexus instead. Otherwise, the normal Nexus S is good enough. There aren't many 4G carrier available, and you won't need 4G in daily life.
I come from an epic. No regrets whatsoever. The only wins the epic has over the ns4g are the better camera, and speaker. Also the epic seems to get better 3g and 4g reception. Other than that everything else is so much better. Development included.

+1 to what rush said. I had to bring my epic in for repairs but they didn't have any refurbs so the sent me a nexus. Check out shabby's one click root and there is also a one click unroot. Qbking has some good videos of various roms also.

Great read! I too am a new comer here, coming from the misfit phone Droid X2, which was a decent phone, but with no unlockable bootloader, will never reach its potential, but we had great devs that made some decent roms with what they had. But anyways I'm really liking this phone so far, & with unlockable bootloader & so many roms, I'm feelin all goody like a fat kid in a candy store! Lol And seems like a good community here

GummyNexus is good, I just don't like the visual changes. I would go with Bigxie's ICS Rom. That, combined with the Matrix 14.5 kernel set to lulzactive is perfect. 9 hours unplugged and I was at 86%.

oICS v43 is good too, but I am thinking of giving gummy another try. I've been hearing that it's doing quite well and oICS hasn't been updated in awhile(although it is reportedly still in development.)
great phone! im coming from a evo 4g and didn't want to use my upgrade so I bought this phone off ebay. Loving it so much. I think I'm stuck on nexus phones from here on out (^_^)
Yeah advice is get an epic touch lol better phone. Better battery. But its not free like the nexus is right now. My advice, get free nexus from sprint online and then just grab the galaxy nexus when it drops later.
