G2 compatible headphones - G2 and Desire Z Accessories

I'm looking for a good quality pair of ear buds for the G2 that has ff and rew buttons, plus a button to take/ end a call. Budget is around $50. Anyone have any recommendations?

After a few weeks of searching I gave up and got the Sony Ericsson MW600 Bluetooth handsfree. I exchanged the standard bullets (simply a matter of taste) for my trusty old Pionneers. Build and sound quality are great, battery life also, plus you can pair it with 3 devices and select to which you want to connect or simply use it as a standalone FM radio receiver

These are what I use... excellent set of head phones

Yo does your volume / mic work on that? I have the Aviator headphones from Skullcandy, and it doesn't control Volume / Mic on my phone. Works on an iPod, but not this phone. I'm on the latest build of CM7 (and have tried all of them, same thing). I haven't tried the stock ROM though.

Problems have been reported from multiple G2's about the ear buds mic/volume up down not working...me included - design flaw in the 3.5 jack on our phones...bluetooth is the way to go

My Bose ones work with my G2 =)

Grrr.... I like my Aviators. I had some Samsung BT headphones before, but the newer model sucked / got stolen. So I rocked with these sexy headphones. Well, that sucks... oh well. I thought it was some crazy setting or something I had to go find.
Bleh.

Skullcandy... Bose? Are you guys serious? Come on now, don't fall for that crap.

Dear pmatang and slapshot30,
Would you mind writing the exact model of Bose, respectively Skullcandy hadphones with volume and media control (ff, play/pause, rew) that you own and know to work with the G2/Desire Z?
If you didn't even bother to read the first post, do the world a favour and don't reply at all. Silence is often better than a crappy answer.
Sincerely,

I have the Bose MIE2i model.
http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/headphones/mobile_solutions/index.jsp
The i model comes with added iPod controls over the normal MIE2. As it is made specifically for the iPod the controls don't work fully.
The middle button works for play/pause/skip track. The skip track is a double press of the middle button. The actual buttons for skip and rewind don't work.
These also double as a handsfree kit for taking calls which works fine with DZ.
It may be possible to have the skip and rewind buttons fully working depending on the ROMs you run or if there is an app for it. Honestly I don't know. I am currently writing my experience of using these earphones on the Virtuous sense ROM and the CM6 ROM.
Hope that helps.
EDIT - Take your phone into a Bose store and ask for a demo. They'll happily let you test them out first. Also, some stores do a promotion where you can trade any set of earphones for a discount off your purchase. Even a $1 headphone.

Now that's a great response
I actually skipped over that model (and all other "made for iPhone" headphones, for that matter) because I read that the skip buttons don't work.

I read the first post. It clearly states the OP wants GOOD, QUALITY earphones. Bose and Skullcandy (Monster too, for the record) are NOT quality. They live off of marketing and all of you are falling victim to it. All of their items are overpriced.
Here, I'll give some QUALITY recommendations...
Sennheiser, Klipsch, Denon, Audio Technica, and many more. These brands actually give you what you pay for. If you want, I can find some with the controls you need to work with the phone, or you could just become a member at this site and ask around, they know what they're talking about. This is probably the most popular headphone/earphone forum. (Oh, and don't talk about Bose/Monster/Skullcandy, you will get flamed beyond belief)

You stated some nice brand names, that said, Bose headphones aren't half bad and the sound quality in their earphones aren't amazing but they beat out any other brand in terms of comfort; especially if you don't enjoy having the earbuds shoved into your ear canal.
Now, anyone can spout out brand names, but did you really respond to the OP's question? Of the brand names you named, which models are compatible with the DZ?
Lots of people just seem to jump onto the Bose and Beats hater bandwagon without any reason to back it up; you sir, seem like one of them.
Don't get so defensive when someone responded to your post with a different opinion to yours. Your first post WAS pointless.
On another note, I use the Bose MIE2 (not the iPod version) and I can say that the sound quality isn't anywhere near what the price tag suggests. However, they're unbelievably comfortable and if you're a runner, they do not budge or fall out when you're running.
I originally had the iPod version but the buttons are unresponsive so I exchanged them for the non-iPod version where it gives you only 1 button but you can pause, play, skip and take/end calls. Again, rewinding doesn't work.
One thing to know about the Bose earphones is that you can hear EVERYTHING around you (this is because they do not have active noise cancellation and they are not "in-ear"). While I find that a perk because I'd rather not get hit by a car, I can see why some people may not like this.
And if you want noise cancellation, then there's a whole other set of earphones to look into.

I will agree with you, my first post didn't have much point, just trying to be humorous. Bose do have okay SQ (better than Monster and Skullcandy), but that's about it, still overpriced. I didn't just "jump" on the bandwagon, I know more about audio products than the average person. I've got some pretty darn expensive headphones and IEM's that beat the heck out of those three overpriced brands. You say lots of people jump on that band wagon?? Yea right, I see Beats everywhere I go, there are only a select few who know they're overpriced.
I don't daddle much into earphones with controls, but like I stated, I will find some if you'd really like me to. Or you could just join head-fi and ask yourself, there are TONS of members there willing to help noobs. I know for a fact Sennheiser has a great low-end selection (sub $50).
You are asking a bit too much with telling me to spit out some products that will for sure work with the DZ. It's not like other electronics where you can just go and test them out at some store. Audio products involve a lot of buying and returning to test things out. There is no way to know for sure unless someone else with the same exact phone has tried it, which isn't that easy at all.
Maybe we could look into finding a control that plugs into the phone, and you plug the earphones into that control (2 parts). They had something like that for the PSP. If we could find one that could work for the DZ, then it would be possible to use much better earphones with it.
EDIT: Found some nice ones IF you can extend your price point a tiny bit. These are the Klipsch Image S4i. I have the regular ones without the controls. These can be found as low as $60. Maybe they will work... Here is a diagram of the functioning.

Ah, very nice link. They are saying to go with the Klipsch S2M for Android. They have controls, but I am unclear as to how many and which ones. This is an excellent choice for anyone wanting good earphones. Klipsch is a fantastic brand, I own the S4 and they are highly regarded among audio enthusiasts at that price point.
EDIT: Answer/End/Mute are the only controls with those :\

Ah, so you weren't just trolling (I thought you were). Should've posted something like this before!
Glad we kept it name-calling free.
Agreed on the Bose note and definitely agree on SkullCandy and DreBeats.
On a side note, what sounds good to one person may not sound good to another. Ie. The bose MIE's alot of people say they sound great, but IMO theyre mediocre at best, the only reason I kept them was because theyre comfortable and do not budge even when running or something.
Best piece of advice anyone can give you is a general direction to go in and you have to buy them (or demo if you can) and see if you like them.

Yes, I've seen those ety's before but didn't recommend them because of the high price compared to your budget. Great brand to go with though, if you can stretch your budget I'd go for it. Just make sure where ever you buy them from has a good return policy, you just never know with audio products.

If u dont wanna spend too much, I bought these two each under $25 and havent been dissapointed yet

are you using the in-ears or the over the head headphones? curious to know if the noise cancelling on them is noticable and is the volume louder than oem htc earphones?
bought the Monster Beats by Dre (Tour/in-ear with Control Talk) from the Apple store last week and I absolutely love them. They are replacing my old Apple in-ear headphones. Bass is sweet with no distortion. Mids and highs are spot on. Haven't yet tried them with the N1, been using them with my iPt. Not sure if the in-line remote controls/mic will work with the N1 but I will test them out sometime.

cool good to hear, let me know how they sound on the N1 and if the microphone actually works too! thanks man.
The beats are pretty good but way overpriced. Either way the output of the nexus one isn't great for audio and anything too good is a bit of a waste. Try going to head-fi to read up on iems before you buy.
Is the compatibility a hardware or software issue? Could some code be written or changed to make them work 100%?
I have the monster beats over the ears head phones. The big ones. They work perfectly fine. Also they come with the adapted to use with your nexus one which works fine. I like them a lot.
been using the in ear with control talk and they are the best headphones i have ever owned.
I have the bose quiet comfort 3 and the beats by dre top them out in quality.
Got mine for 80 bucks of craiglist brand new
used the Studio beats, they were awesome. just too big to carry around at times. so I got the klipsch s4i's. Awesome headset. ~100 but well worth it. check the cnet reviews, they're highly rated. lets me answer calls as well.
I know this thread is old... But check out Head-Fi.org when it comes to headphones.
I'd be very surprised if the Dre headphones are anything but overpriced. At first glance, it seems like my assumption is correct via my first couple threads when searching Dre Beats.

The best headphones for smart phones are the: -
Etymotic HF2 High Fidelity Headphones
I've read the stuff on Head-fi but I still decided to buy a pair of Solo's. Why? Because I like them. I really like the looks and I think sound quality is pretty decent too. Furthermore I think they are one of the most comfortable headphones out there, which is pretty important to me too.
Of course, the fact that some people on Head-fi are not too enthousiastic about these headphones might say something. So maybe they are not the perfect headphones price/quality wise, but let's not exaggerate. For example, there are a lot of people out there that have a positive opinion about these headphones too.
What happens on forums is that in the end, if there are enough people saying bad things about something, other people will either just copycat their opinion without taking the time to develop their own opinion, or they will be influenced by these opinions while developing their own.
My 2 cents.
Now, does this Control Talk feature works on any HTC android phone??
I have had the beats over the ear for around a year now. I looked up a couple reviews and they were onsale so i took the leap.
in retrospec after doing more research and finding out about head-fi i would not buy them again.
they sound great and feel great. the "noise cancelation" is nothing to write home about. I also find it VERY annoying that the headphones cannot even work without the 2 AAA batteries in them. I use them alot for xbox with an astro mixamp and its very annoying to head over to a friends only to find out your headphones die 5 minutes into a match of your favorite game.
hooked up to my nexus they sound great, with a decent headphone amp they sound even better of course. no one buys a phone expecting to output the requires wattage.
prior to purchasing these cans i had not had much experiance over a few "high end" gaming headsets and your typical mid range dj headphones/ in ear buds and i was blown away by these. I was and still am very happy with my purchase, however i realize that for the money i could have got even better.

My thoughts exactly. Avoid BOSE or Monster if you want value for money, they are all marketing (think Apple).
I'v been using UE triple.fi 10vi for a while now..
There's no going back once you hear these babies
Get a pair of Futuresonic Atrio's, you probably never heard of them but they are the industry leader in IEM's for Concert's/bands/live performers. Great low frequency response and warm accurate highs; review. For <$200 they can't be touched by any other IEM on the market.
EDIT: Wanted to add that anything with the name Monster on it is way overpriced.
Images s4
I have listened to a few of the Beats line headphones... and they sound quite good overall. But as for in-ears I went with the Klipsch Image S4's they are amazing earbuds, and I paid like 40 bucks for one!

Ibeats by dre

Can anyone confirm if the ibeat by dr. dre works with the Tmobile g2? do all the buttons work or only some?
Also, what about the new powerbeats. the around the ear ones made for athletic activity. Do they work with the tmobile g2?
I saw these at Best Buy and wondered the same thing....
buy it with cash at best buy and bring them back if they dont work ull get cash back on the spot. Then u can let us know
I might just do that. I went today and looked at them and asked what their return policy was and the guy said that since it's the holidays that you have thirty days or until january 31st. I really want to but i've been reading other forums and someone with a MT4G said only some of the buttons worked with theirs.
Return policy is extended until Jan. 31st 2011.
I may pick them up, considering I work there, I guess I'd have to see what the discount on them is.
The "Beats by Dre" series is utter crap. They boost the Bass way beyond what it needs to be, to cover up the missing mids and highs. Definitely not worth the money.
If you want good sound quality, get some Etymotics. Or Sennheiser. Or pretty much anything other than something made by Monster.
I have the Beats by Dre headphones with the built in mic and controls. The track selector/volume control does not work with the device. However, the play/pause button does. The headphones are still a required purchase. Especially if you download the PowerAmp music player and use the equalizer controls. It puts other devices (i.e. ipod touch) to shame when it comes to clarity and quality of music.
Indeed Dr Dre is crap, as is Bose.
Do the product research.
Yeah I looked up the prices today, and wouldn't see myself paying 100$+ on headphones unless I really knew I loved them.

Bose is okay (better than Beats anyway) but over-priced. If they were to charge half as much as they do, then they would be worth it.

I did do product research. I've seen good reviews and bad reviews. I have been unable to find any reviews specifically mentioning whether they work the the Tmobile g2 hence i asked if they worked with it. I wasn't asking for you opinion on the quality.
And i think Bose if fine. I'm by no means a music expert on sound quality. they could very well be a piece of **** when it comes to sound quality to someone who is an audiophile but i am not and they sound great to me. i bought a set of Bose headphones about three years ago and used them everyday while walking to class, work and while running and they worked perfectly for 2 and half years. Then one earphone blew probably cause i played music loud on it every single day. I have never had a pair of headphones last that long. I was happy that i paid under 5 dollars a month to use them. So unless you are here to answer the original question. keep you opinions to yourself. i want facts not opinions.

Apple used to use a different plug layout so that non-Apple headsets wouldn't work properly. They may or may not do this still. Your best bet is to take your G2 with you to a store like BestBuy and see if they'll let you hook it up to their demo and test it out.

You would have been even more happy to pay 1$ a month for the exact same thing. You said it yourself, you're not an audiophile, so buy something cheap that an audiophile recommends.
It's funny that you'd ask whether 3.5mm cans/plugs would function in 3.5mm females...

I am asking if the buttons work. not if the male female parts work. I'm not that dumb. Just cause your headphones with inline buttons plug into your phone does not mean all the inline buttons work. And noone has recommended a cheap pair of headphones with inline buttons that can play, pause, skip forward, skip backward, answer and end calls. if you have one that will work with the Tmobile G2 please recommend them

When I went to Home Theater School... They had a saying that I use regularly.. "No Highs, No Lows.... Must be a Bose"\\
How did this thread turn into a hate thread on Bose?
First of all, if they were really that bad, they wouldn't be around for decades and they wouldn't be worth billions, so what do you people have against Bose? If you don't like them, don't recommend them. Why is there a need to flame them? Although they seem to be doing fine even with the bashing they receive.
Secondly, they exceed any other company in terms of comfort. True, their sound could be better for the price, but if an equilibrium of comfort and sound quality is important to the user then suddenly Bose doesn't seem so bad. They are second to none when it comes to comfort. Many Bose users will attest to this, or simply go to their store and put on a pair of headsets.
True, Dre Beats aren't good, but their selling point IS the extensive bass, so simply don't purchase the product if you don't like them.
I personally don't like them either, but I don't go around saying things like "Dre Beats is crap" -Period-
Back it up with a reason, and let the other person decide if it fits their need. Some people may listen to a lot of Hip Hop, which is the type of music that Dre Beats would really bring out, it would get their head bobbing.
So please, if you're going to flame, do it properly. Preferably though, don't do it at all, simply just recommend the brands that you do appreciate. If Bose or any other company is really that bad, no one will recommend them at all, and only the brands that are truly good will be mentioned.
Back on topic though, I know that there are a lot of mobile headsets that have the talk/endtalk function along with a pause/play function that work, but I've yet to find a pair where the "Next" and "Prev" buttons work.
Basically any mobile headset that wasn't specifically made for Apple products will work (note that the sound will still function).
However I can recommend Sony Klipsch, Shure, Sennheisers products, where the price ranges from low to high, and they're generally worth the money. Bose is alright, but they're expensive and produce a fair sound quality but are extremely comfortable. You can get better sound for the price.
Thats my two cents.
I have a pair of the solo hds and the volume buttons do not work. The play/pause does and the next track also works. I forgot how to try reverse track but Im sure it will work if Next track does. Hope that helps you! Im using Poweramp media player and stock froyo music player both work.
Edit: Also people claiming the Beats suck, please stop the whining. Just like this guy, Im also into listening to music but not an audiophile. The Beats look great, which is a huge plus. i don't want to walk around wearing ugly ass headphones, and sound great for the music I listen to which is Hip-Hop..definitely drives the bass for some of my songs.

I researched for a few days and decided on the v-moda remix remote (3button) for my Desire Z. I heard they were quite bass-heavy but I'm ok with that. The sound was quite nice, and the call button works for controlling music (but the other buttons do nothing). The website states that the "Mic + call control compatible with any iPhone and all phones with a 3.5mm port". It goes on to describe that not all of the 3 button functions are compatible with all phones, blah, blah, but you would assume that at least the microphone works, right? Unfortunately no. I emailed support and they replied:
"It seems they are not compatible. We hope to have a HTC/droid compatible model out later this year."
Well thanks for nothing! Anyway, onto my question. Has anyone had any success with any of the v-moda headsets with mic? I'm thinking of moving onto the vibe II, maybe I'm a sucker for punishment.

[Q] Anyone has tried Beyerdynamic MMX-101iE?

Hello everyone,
I found this headset Bayerdynamic MMX 101 iE accidentally just a while ago.
If anyone has tried it, can you please write your review here?
Edit: Is the sound quality good? Microphone quality? Compatibily with Desire?
http://europe.beyerdynamic.com/shop/hah/headphones-and-headsets/sports-and-on-the-way/mmx-101.html
This has caught my eyes since a few day ago but I can not find any reviews at all.
So, any words for this headset will be very appriciated since I need one right now.
Edit: Sorry misstyping by Beyerdynamic , it should be Bayerdynamic
you couldn't find more expensive ones, could you?

Well...€99 still belongs to the middle class..there are still more with more expensive.
I think the price range between €70-€100 is the correct range for me, more than €100 is a bit too expensive.
Remember you get what you pay.
That type is competely new and there is still no real review available...perhaps I just have to wait for some time until the review is there.

I have found several good ones above €100 but I am not planning to go that high.
It was launched during the musikmesse/music fair just a while ago so..it's kinda new and still without any convincing review.
I will have to wait until there are more review.
Hi Im fairly new to these forums but i can tell you that you cant go wrong with these. I bought these about a week ago and have been nothing short of stunned by the quality. They have great bass and really crisp clear midrange. I would say that these are better than the sennheisers and klipschs s2i that i have.
One thing to note is that make you play around with the earbuds as if you get them wrong they sound really flat and dull so make sure you get them to seal in your ears properly.
It is also a coincidence, yesterday I met some in train on the way home after work.
I asked if I can use it for a couple of minutes in the train, and he said yes.
My review within a few minutes:
1. sound quality is incredible for the price.
2. mic is also good.
3. unfortunately, no volume control or whatsoever except a button to pick up and hang up the call. (not really a big problem, not really in need of a mic and pick up button anyway).
4. metal housing for the ear pieces is awesome.
5. the cable looks extremely fragile to me. it is thin, not braided, etc.
(I am not sure of getting this headset because of this. This is the biggest downside. My current in-ear headphone (Klipsch Image S3) has just given up or lost its life just last night, the cable got broken again. The warranty is still there, but I don't want to claim it for the third time. I just prefer a new one instead of waiting weeks for claiming. It must be something wrong with how I store the headphone in my bag ).
6. Ear plug/bud don't fit my ears perfectly, I have tried on the one attached tho'. (It could be another problem)
I also found Philips SHO9560 (O'Neal stretch). It looks super robust but doesn't have good sound relatively compared to mmx-101i. Its look is also very appealing.
Now, I'm confused.
Way too expensive for me.
For the same price (or cheaper) I would get headphones/earphones from already proven company: Sennheiser.
Update:
Phillips SHO9560 sounds teribble.
MMX101ie doesn't really fit my ear...it comes off often (unless I get the individual package, but it is too expensive)...I don't wanna get an in-ear anymore...getting something which fits my ear is just a matter of luck...
No AKG products fits my huge head size (honest), I like the sound of AKG K518 but it is too small for my head, tried also 430, 420, 520, etc....
This is official! I hate AKG! This company never thinks of people with huge head like me! It is discrimination!
Sony XD300, XD500...sounds dark (bass too strong, trebble not clear)
Dr. Dre Solo HD is too expensive for the quality I am getting.
I will look for some more...Sennheiser, Denon, Bose, etc....
What I hate is that Desire can not really pull Sennheiser PXC450 (I own one at home and I use it mostly during flights or at home)....volume gets too low even on max.
Sh*t it is not easy to find the correct one!
Late response!
I just found this thread after looking into the MMX101 iEs myself - what was your solution in the end? I really like these headphones and fortunately they fit my ears; unfortunately though, the mic and answer button did not work, so I'm having to send them back. Hopefully the replacements will work fine!
Did you settle on over-ear headphones in the end? Given your situation I would have recommended the Sony MDR-V500 - great headphones, excellent range, solid bass response which is punchy but doesn't overwhelm the mid-range, and amazingly cheap considering!
Hope you managed to get this sorted anyway.
I've got these. Nothing short of awesome. The sound quality at all levels is incredibly crisp and you don't use any equaliser settings/tweaks as the ear phones sort all that out for you. Had mine for two years now and need a new set and will definitely buy the same ones again.
Also get 3 pairs of different size buds depending on what suits your ear best.
Someone can confirm the microphone and remote of Beyerdynamic MMX-101 works with android?

That does not depend on OS (Android, iOS, Windows). The "problem" is different layout of rings on the 3.5mm connector with different phone manufacturers ("microphone" and "ground" rings are swapped). It's natively compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Blackberry and HTC. If you want them to work correctly with Nokia, Sony, Samsung, Motorola, LG and other models you have to buy a separate adaptor.
I bought V-Moda M100 in the end.
It is expensive but worth every single penny I spent

Headphones w/ mic

I just got my MT4GS and I really need to rom it, but I just got a great Trident case now I need some head phones with a mic.
Is there any issue with any new roms making any of the buttons nonoperational?
Do y'all have recommendations of good headphones with a microphone?

I've been using my Skullcandy that I got for free from T&C. People can even hear me when I'm riding my bike going about 30mph. Anything over that and it gets too windy. Also works well at the shooting range (I use it as ear protection there).
Overall I'm happy with them since they were free, but I've heard a lot more good things about the beats and bose earphones. Ya know, the ones that are actually supposed to noise cancel and stuff lol.

I found these Mee M31P earphones and I've been very impressed with them. The build quality is top-notch, and after a burn-in (I connected them to my old MP3 player and let it play at a loud volume continuously for about 24 hours), the sound quality is just amazing. Even at low volumes, you can still get the full spectrum with all the bass and treble you want. The mic works very well for calls. I lucked out and got them on a Woot-Off for $16, but even the $25 price on Amazon is well worth it. http://www.amazon.com/MEElectronics-M31P-BK-Headphones-Microphone-Smartphones/dp/B004OBZ2UO
I actually got these ”Smokin Buds” skullcandy earphones today, but after looking at the reviews I think I'm just gonna get another pair.
Apparently they break really easily, and I'm not a big fan of that.
I'll be sure to let you know when they break, but so far the sound is awesome. Only problem is that the button seems to push itself at 60+ mph. Irritating.

Thanks! Are you riding a motorcycle 60mph?
I like the idea of noise canceling headphones. I rooted and rommed to XMC's Jellybean, I love it (!), maybe I can try some headphones out at Bestbuy or something!
Heh yeah. Really irritating when it changes songs every three seconds by itself. I also don't think it was made to noise cancel, they just fit in my ears really well.
Personally, I think they have excellent sound. Next time I buy earphones, however, I'm going to read reviews first. I swear, if these break...hahaha =D!
What's your price range, OP? I go through a lot of different brands so I can give some insight.
Actually I wanna hear your recommendation as well. What do you suggest under 50 and 100 dollars?

These are going to be about the earbuds only because headsets are big as hell, and I find earbuds more convenient and cleaner looking. More people would probably fit more with earbuds because most people love convenience.
Under 100, but over 50:
Klipsh Image S4i's are really good. Why? Sound is clear, noise-isolated earbuds, and there is a nice 3 button control set up (volume, call/end call, play music, skip music, etc.). Also, the really good thing about the S4's is the microphone. There is an echo-cancelling feature to it which is a definite plus, and the sound quality of the bass is very good. The colorway of these earbuds is very simplistic as the color is finished with black and chrome. Very clean. Only flaw is the way the buttons take you out of applications, but if you press the buttons, wouldn't that mean you needed to call someone?
Klipsh S4A is good too...I like the S4i's better because it's cheaper and it's pretty much the same thing quality wise. However, you can probably find the S4A's for cheap if you look around.
Lady Gaga Heartbeats are good too. Very unique design to it, and the wire on it (the flat one) is pure quality because it's tangle free pretty much. Seems like it would never break. Sound is VERY good. There's a nice case that comes with this too. I think Monster made this... Monster is very high end, so their credibility should say a lot about these earphones. The microphone is alright though. It's clear, but what makes this headset good is the sound it produces.
Shure headsets are definitely some to look into, even with the lower end products. The design is definitely why I would recommend these to anyone. However, Klipsh ****s on this Shure in the under 100's class.
Etymotic Research MC3's are really nice, but not worth the price... It's a balanced headset, but lacks so much compared to the higher ended Etymotic headsets. I just put these here because I've tried this out.
Beats Audio cheap version...overrated /story. lol I love the hype with the Beats. Good brand, but so far, the Klipsh makes the Beats look crappy, and the Klipsh is cheaper.
Under 50:
MEElectronics brand in general. Good stuff for what it is. Can't really say anything. It's under 50 so why not, right? It's good for what it is.
Ultimate...more expensive but overrated.
NuForce NE-7M is a good headset to use. It's simplistic in style. Sound is very close to those that are under 100. This is definitely one of those earpieces that is made for the laid-back chilled out person. I like these a lot.
Skullcandy Ink'd...it's alright too. Lots of flaws. Wire is always tangled, and it looks cheesy. Sound isn't the best either. But it is what it is, and that's why its price reflects upon the headset in itself.
Skullcandy Smoking Buds are nice in design. Sound is good for what it is. It's kind of too loud though and doesn't seem balanced (for example, the high-end frequencies are very noticeable and it's annoying to hear). It's cheap and that's what matters. Also, the wire is very durable. This is my go-to if I needed something right away and my main headset broke (they have this in almost every retail store). Flaw with the Smoking Buds is the button. Microphone is clear, but the button is annoying. Only one button, which means no control settings to really use. It either opens up your music app, shuts down your music app, or makes a speed dial call to the last person you talked to.
Best choice for under 100 in general is the Klipsh. It's compatible with the Android (I would know ), and it allows control (which is what I think most people would want). The sound is pure quality, and the microphone is very clear. It's also durable, nice looking, and simple.
Best choice for under 50, I would go with the NuForce NE-7M. It's about exactly 50 dollars, but the sound is good for what it is, and it would suit most people who are always on the go and aren't able to cough up an extra 20 dollars for some Klipsh earphones. The design is very minimal, but's a good thing because it's a straight-to-the-point type of earphones to use.
Hopefully, this helps.
Thanks! I'll be looking into the Klipsh headphones for my next purchase. You seem to be well versed with earbuds (which I prefer, actually) and it's always good to read opinions.
As someone who rides every day, earbuds have become a commodity. It's the only way to entertain myself on long rides lol.
Thanks Gheng, you've given an excellent place to start, I don't really have any base to start from, I've been using the earbud/mic sets included with a phone. They have always been lacking in some way.
I'm going to look on Amazon for reviews on each of these models you've talked about to develop a matrix. :cyclops:
+1 Klipsch Image S4. I have the normal set of earbuds, and they are amazing. They still sound great even after a year of daily use. But the cable is fairly thin, so take care of them and they will take care of you.

No worries. I usually base my opinions off of actual experience and reviews from highly respected sources. It feels good to usually have almost the exact same opinions as most of these credible sources.

Are you guys with the Klipsch S4is able to have control of songs and calls? I've read random things about ROMs that don't support the functions of multi-button headset controllers? I have the JB rom with the CM 6 kernal (I think).
I believe Klipsch makes an Image S4 set called the S4A. Specifically for android devices. S4i is for the iPhone

Both work well on the MyTouch 4g Slide. I prefer the i's over the a's because of the experience I had with both. Plus, it was a bit better in price and sound.
I advise people to try out both if they can. Personal preference goes a long way.

I recommend Phonak Audeo earphones over the rest mentioned if you can find a deal on them. I know they have a version with the mic, but I don't know if they have music playback controls
I tried the Klipsh Image S4i's, they were great, but the extra buttons didn't work, just the one for pause/play/answer did. These worked really well, I liked the sound isolating function, I've never had these type of ear buds before, but really like them. I returned them due to the cost.
I'm going to get the MEElectronics M6P-BK Sports version with the sports ear wire. The reviews on Amazon seem to be mostly good.

I have some MEElectronics M31P-BK that are really good, the sound quality after burning in for 24 hours is amazing for that price. Has only 1 button but that works to play/pause or accept calls. The sound is actually a little richer, to my ears, than the UrBeats by Monster that I just bought.

What do you think about the google headphone

I want to buy headphones to my Nexus 4, and I want to know what is your opinion about the google headphone, or the ibeats (Dr. Dre).
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
If you like your headphones bassy and overpriced, go for the ibeats. But I doubt the controls will work as they're made for apple devices.
In general, I think you'll find much better options than either. First of all, though, you should think about what you want in your headphones and how much you're willing to spend. And then seek out a forum with lots of people who care about audio quality etc.
I personally am using the Superlux HD 381F. Build quality is not spectacular, but the sound is amazing considering they only cost 20€, so it's not that much of a loss if you break or lose them. Which I do way too often to actually buy more expensive ones.
I would go with neither.
Go with Senheiser or another know 'headphone' brand.
I myself use the Marley earbuds, they fit perfectly, the cord is not from plastic but from fabric, earbuds are from wood, and most of all have amazing sound.

Do a little search and you can come up with a few threads on various headphones. From cheapest, to what you have/recommend, in ear or over the ear, etc. It's here. I know because I commented on most of them lol.
My opinion of the Google headphones. They are good for just the casual listener. Dr. Dre are a bit overpriced for what they are, but I don't deny the popularity of them due to "style" and whatnot. What is your budget? What type of headphones are you looking into? These are some of the things to think of and do a little research on to come to your conclusion.
I just bought some Munitio NINES 9mm earbuds, because they looked interesting because they look like bullet casings lol. Well I read in some reviews that they sound great for the price. So I am testing them out.
So basically, if you want good in ears, go for the brands like Sennheiser or Shure products. Also Jays headphones are decent as well. I personally use the Sol Republic AMPS HD for my yardwork. They are light and tangle free. Over the ears are based on mostly on personal preference due to the head phone cup size, portability, and so forth.
Additionally, the type of music you listen to plays a factor as well. GL and happy shopping!

I have not tried the google headphones, ( i'm sure their average to decent like standard earphones) but I do own the ibeats by Dr.dre. I would not have bought them myself as I agree they are overpriced, but I received them as a birthday gift. The quality is very good, better than any other earphones I tried or had ( all <$20) and they have a lot of bass, which I really like. The build quality is really good too, better than all my usual cheap earphones ( but thats what you would expect at that price range) - the rubber for the wires and the metal earbuds are both good. I was happy with the sound but honestly I'm sure you could get just as good a pair in terms of sound quality for $50, like the name brands mentioned above. These are just priced for the branding and popularity and style points. I did get a lot of compliments for them since they are recognizable.
For the controls, only the center button worked for me. It does pause/play, or pick up/hang up a call. You can get apps to set the one button to do other things based on how many times you press it. The volume/track + - buttons did not work for me, I don't think android supports them yet.
So your choice, depends on your budget and what you want. They're good but expensive.. you might be better off with one of the well known audio company brands.

They're excellent for the money, and the plug is actually a 90 degree, though the pictures don't show it. They've got great bass, and you won't believe the quality for the price.
I recommend the Klipsch IMAGE S4 II's. Love the sound from them and they're not too expensive. If you're looking for cheap, the IMAGE S3 or original IMAGE S4's also do an excellent job. The versions that have an A at the end of them have a customizable button via an Android app made by Klipsch themselves.

You can get them on Amazon.
Yep, I'm happy with them. They sound really good. I also recommend getting comply foam tips to go with these (you can get those on amazon too) :good:
What is your budget? I can help suggest something or you could post in the "portable" "What Headphone Should I Buy" thread at Head-Fi.org and someone will reply with your best options.
10-30$

Seconding this. I have the HAFX1X and it really pumps the bass. Looks pretty good too! Now if I can find the bud thing that fits in my ears instead of it falling out, it'll be golden.
