Anyone figure out if we can get the FM radio working? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Someone pointed out at Android forums that there isn't an FM radio on our phone. I thought there was. I thought I saw somewhere that the antenna was in the headset like my old Archos?
I found this thread in the Optimus 2x forum area here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043897&highlight=radio
I'm wondering what the status of figuring this out is? Has it been discussed at all here? I couldn't find it if it has.

I believe the FM radio has to be enabled on the kernel level. Until we get a kernel that has support, no radio for us.

We do have a couple of kernal developers now though. I wonder if this has just been put on the backburner and if anyone of them could look into this.

Probably put on the backburner. OC and UV is usually first priority.

Because an FM tuner allows you to listen to local stations that may not have digital feeds. It also doesn't use any of your data quota.

LOL, well that's it folks

if you go into the hidden menu do you get sound or is it just input the frequency and still get no sound. i found the service manual and it does look like the fm radio was not hooked up at all but if we still get sound from the hidden menus test then it might be possible

[Q] FM Radio on Galaxy S 4G?

I heard that some models of the Galaxy S line have FM Radios built in. Anyone know if it's built-in and disabled, or if it's on and we just need an app for it?
I've looked in the market for an FM radio app, and for a solution but found nothing.
Any ideas?
Officially, I've seen it's nonexistant, but some seem to have doubts.
Thanks in advance.

I too would like to get this feature working. From this site:
http://www.chipworks.com/en/technic...rdown-of-the-samsung-galaxy-s-4g-smart-phone/
It says that the hardware is there. So it's only a matter of someone figuring out how to remove the block!
FM RADIO
do you have to have a certain model like I had a mytouch 3g but there were so many different models 32a and 32b and voderfone so is it the same case for the SGS4G

Well there are a few hardware specification mistakes; for example, it says the CPU is Samsung manufactured, while it is in not that, but a Hummingbird CPU.
Hummingbird was codeveloped by Samsung and Intrinsity. Check wiki.

Why not just download a radio app and use that? You get way more stations that way.
Sigh. Wish someone would figure out the right answer. And if it does have a tuner, turn it on! Oh well...

Uses data, and probably a lot more battery compared to a tuner.

An FM tuner? There used to be an app that worked with some tuners. Gonna look for it. I didn't search to find any additional info about the tuner because Tapatalk's search sucks.
Edit: Looking at the link above I noticed there was an FM tuner.

There is indeed an FM tuner on the board. I've tried some FM radio apps and have had no luck even with head phones plugged in(which is what most phones use for antennas). We've talked about finding a way to enable it in the past but no one has really looked that hard. Not super high on the priority list.

AT&T HOX Deleted Apps

I'm brand new to AT&T, so I apologize in advance if this is already well known, but I just came across a thread
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632238)
looking for missing apps that AT&T thought would be a good idea to leave off our phones.
I to, have always liked the flashlight and FM radio and got them to work just by signing them and installing them as user apps. So far they have survived a couple of full reboots, and a simulated battery pulls.

HTC changed their FM audio methods in JB. My FM app supports that.
Perhaps an HTC FM app from a JB ROM will work, whether for Rogers or Euro OneX(L) or the app from HTC One or whatever.
I think it needs to be from an HTC phone using WCN3660 FM/combo chip (and Qualcomm S4+ SOC). An HTC app for Broadcom or TI combo chips won't work for the FM control function.

It's possible to make it work if there is a connection between chip and headphone jack. (For antenna)
I talked to the developer of SPIRIT FM and he told me this
Code:
Thanks for the log.
It looks like it has a Qualcomm FM/BT/WiFi combo chip.
But the kernel does not have the needed Qualcomm "IRIS" V4L FM driver at /dev/radio0.
Disabling the kernel driver is pretty unusual; even Google Nexus devices don't do that, despite that their FM antenna pins are hardware disabled.
A kernel that supports the FM V4L driver is needed to test any further.
Let's see
The easiest thing I have found which I listen to local channels is I-heart radio. I've had many phones in the past that had FM but never used it because I get what I want from I-heart radio and I use Bluetooth headset with mine.

I-Heart Radio is good but it uses bandwidth not all local radio stations are available.
Interesting, I'd love to see if having this included in a custom kernel will make an FM tuner app work..

Well if you can zoom in the picture and look on chip itself it clearly shows as WCN3680. And as per BT 4.1 its just a patch it can applied to most or all 4.0 devices.

Why almost all the customize ROMs do not include FM radio function?
FM radio is not important, but useful and happy with that.

Thought I was being stupid when I couldn't get the radio to work on my h955 but it seemed that lg had not provided an app nor the capability. Radio update now available from lg. Tried it and it works very well. Not sure if everyone else knew about it or if peeps were waiting without knowing so I'm letting you all know.

Are you joking or what? Just look at Settings / General / About phone / Update Center / App Updates. There are 14 LG apps, FM Radio 4.40.14 is among them.
No not joking. When I first got my flex 2 the radio wouldn't work. I tried and tried but to no avail. I may not be able to write in programming language but I'm certainly not a dumbass as your tone denoted. I've been rooting and modding ever since I had my lg 2x (p990). The update is exactly where you said. Maybe it was firmware specific but I don't think I was the only one who had this problem and thought it would be nice to let others know. Anyways. . . . . no luck with bootloader still everyone or is flex 2 considered a dead horse?

Was your Flex in original factory condition at the same time?
Was your box sealed?
Or it was second hand phone tampered by previous owner?
(*) Wait, I take a look into LG-H955_GBR_UG_Web_V1.0_150319-1.pdf users guide and have found this: "FM radio - NOTE: This application may not be available depending on the region or service provider."
But in such situation I would expect that FM Radio will be missing in Settings / General / About phone / Update Center / App Updates too, in other words - forever.

I am sorry, but that's purely your interpretation, I don't want to say this. I was only really surprised how someone can say "but it seemed that lg had not provided an app nor the capability". That is like missing for example Camera apps or Camera capability which is mentioned too in phone specifications. But now I know that even this is possible in some regions by some service providers, see (*).

Mine was second hand but I factory reset it before I used it properly. When I tried to use the lg radio app which was already on the phone it wouldn't work. I deleted and reinstalled it but it still didn't work. I searched online to see if anyone else had a similar problem and some people stated that they couldn't use their radios either. I looked in the manual and found the same as you did that lg may not necessarily switch it on in some regions. I checked some 3rd party apps but no luck. Nothing would work so I assumed maybe mine was switched off and just listened to mp3 ect instead. Then an lg notification took me to update something else the other day and whilst doing so I spotted the radio app. As soon as I opened it I could tell that it was different from before ( an updated version I assumed ) and it worked awesome. I thought others should know. You're right, I should have said where I found it properly in my op sorry.

If I had a clue I would, but I don't
I suspect if you don't have the FM radio, the relevant hardware is not included although this is just a guess.
I have the ls996 and it does have an fm radio.
ls996 users have to use a third party fm radio app to use the hardware ( I verified this through the use of the NextRadio app )
though I can make use of the hardware by other means, I'm the type of person that likes to have something official from lg to tinker around with.
I run radio on LS996? No full-time program, which put the program to work FM radio?
