Only partial internet access with hotspot and tethering. - Verizon Droid Charge

I have noticed this same issue with my previous HTC Thunderbolt as well. For a while now, whenever I use the mobile hotspot or usb tethering on my PC, I can only browse the internet (ie. Firefox) for a few minutes and then all browsing will state that there is no internet connection available. However if I run a torrent, it will run and full speed at that. Is Verizon only blocking me from certain ports on the internet?
I have incurred very high data usage with the Thunderbolt and now Charge which may be causing this issue. However, I find it very strange they'd block web browsing but not torrenting, where the latter which would typically suck much more bandwidth, the last thing Verizon wants!)
Would anyone here be able to explain or if they've experienced this as well?

Bandwidth Monitoring

Is there any decent app for monitoring bandwidth on WM6 devices?
I'm on an 'unlimited' data contract that has a fair usage policy of 1GB. As I regularly use my phone (HTC Touch Pro on T-Mobile UK) with my laptop (Lenovo X61) to connect to the net, I need to monitor how much bandwidth I'm using via the phone. As I also use the laptop via wirless LAN and LAN at home, installing the software on my laptop won't give me a true representation of how much data is going through the phone.
Ideally I'm looking for something with the features of Netlimiter to monitor and restrict if necessary.
Any suggestions?
There's really nothing out there?
Surely plenty of people have a capped data limit?
You can use SPB GPRS Monitor.
edit: seems like somebody edited there post and took my answer lol

Mobile Broadband Connect under usage, is this the official tethering usage?

So under the My Usage section in verizon's website, under minutes used, sms used, and data used, i see a section for mobile broadband connect. Is this the usage that is measured if you use the official mobile hotspot connect on the bolt?
What if you use wireless tether from the market? will that affect those meters?
pretty sure it won't. it will effect your normal usage rates. Verizon has no way of telling whether you are using wireless tether or pandora.
This is for their data plans for the mifi's or usb modems. I don't know if this is where tethered data will show up once the promotion ends on the unlimited tethering. I would guess that would be the location since they are counted differently and you have certain limits on tethering.

VPNs and tethering (oh my)

Hi
I'm just making this post as I can't really see any solutions for this.
Let me first explain the situation we're in, we have a bunch of laptops that need access to the internet and this building provides free wifi, YAY. The problem is, the wifi is unstable where we are, randomly doesn't allow computers to connect to it, and drops computers from the network for no reason. The landlord is pretty much unhelpful here, and we're only here for 2 weeks so we're just living with it right now.
I have a contracted phone with unlimited data that I tether with USB to my computer and then run a VPN on the computer which works fine for me, but I want to get the other laptops connected too.
The problem is my phone hasn't got tethering, so as soon as it detects a user agent that corresponds with a desktop based browser, it blocks the data connection until the signal is completely reestablished.
This is even a problem for my laptop as sometimes theres a random HTTP request that blocks the connections before the VPN can connect.
So the solution I really want for this is a VPN to be running on the phone, and then a hotspot to run on the phone. Then the laptops can connect to the phone and theoretically be behind the VPN, so everything can be connected and the connection won't get blocked.
I've tried all the iptables forwarding and masquerade rules to no avail, OpenVPN with "Use default route" to force all routes through the VPN also does not allow any computer on the hotspot to connect to get a data connection.
For more info, the phone is a SGS3 i9300 which is currently running the latest CM10.1 nightlies. The VPN is from HMA.
Does anyone have any suggestions for this?
Thanks for the time.

Using VPN with Tether Seems to Break Tether

I have the Tmobile $70 plan with comes with 2.5 GB of tethering.
If I tether to my laptop and the laptop has a VPN, then I can look at the counter at ma.web2go.com and see that no tethering data is being used. This solution works very well for a laptop, where I can operate a VPN on the laptop.
When I use the VPN on the phone, not the laptop, the laptop will see the tether wifi signal, will register, but the internet will not work on the laptop.
Or, other times, the VPN will disconnect on the phone after a few seconds and cannot be reconnected.
I would like to be able to use the VPN on the phone so that I can use a Roku and Chromecast where I cannot set up a VPN on the device.
Yes, I have added the line in the database file.
I have seen a solution elsewhere which involves switching the APN to use IPv4, but the APN is already set that way.
It seems as if Tmobile has some measures in place to stop people from doing what I want to do - anyone else experience this and anyone find any ways around it?

Any mod that allows use of both WiFi and Mobile data for USB tethering?

I know that the download booster mod allows downloads over 30MB to utilize both, but Anyway to get that working for USB tethering without a min. limit? I was able to hack my neighbors wifi but hope it can be better if i am able to use my mobile data at the same time, especially for video streaming.
Stealing wifi from your neighbor isn't good enough?

its fine for basic web browsing, but not really strong enough for video streaming. my mobile data is great, but would also like to have faster speeds.
While I do not condone stealing people's WiFi, this concept would surely be wonderful.
The only way I got it to work was using Connectify software on the computer. However, your public IP constantly changes due to using two different networks. I never thought into looking how the download booster works, I personally delete it from my device after rooting lol. I always assumed it would be switching IP addresses as well due to changing networks.
The problem with that is, streaming sites reset when they see an IP change and your video just stops playing. Same thing happens when downloading files.
