[Q] Question About Inspire 4G! Plz have a look, Thx - HTC Inspire 4G

I want to cancel the data plus plan for my inspire 4G, but att require the data plus plan for smartphone. the only way to cancel the data plus plan is change a phone and not using htc.
so my question is after if i changed a non-smart phone in att,can i change my sim card to inspre 4g by not turning the mobile network (my phone already root +
S-off and it's ship s-off). will att know that i was using a smart phone? if so, how can att know that what phone i was using?
plz help me out! thanks very much!

They will know what phone you are using based on the imei number. You need a non at&t branded phone in order for them not to automatically add the data plan back.

is there any thing i can do for it? some technical things?by edit the imei number?or something outs?

unlock Galaxy S

if i buy a samsung galaxy s which is locked to sprint or tmobile, can i unlock it and use with at&t? can at&t network recognize it as a smart phone? because i'm currently using samsung focus. Once i plug at&t sim card into it. It was automatically detected from at&t system and it also automatically add the the data plan to my plan which is trouble for me. Because i don't wanna pay for the data plan which i don't use much. Any idea?
Yes you can unlock it and use it with AT&T if you buy T-Mobile's GS4G. I'm not sure if AT&T's network would automatically discover what phone you have. When I switched to my Treo 650 a long time ago AT&T had no idea I had a smartphone. After the Treo 650 I upgraded to the G1 and they still thought I was using my old non-smartphone.
I doubt their system could detect the type of phone you have.

Spoke to my friend at T-mo, he said yes. is there a reason why you dont want to be detected? its not like AT&T will charge you more for using an unlocked phone. the only issue is network speeds.

I unlocked a SGS4G and a vibrant for some friends, they use them on AT&T. Yep I imagine they can see the phone, but like fknfocused said you're only going to pay the cost of a plan if you don't already have one.
If you're trying to avoid paying those costs, it's not really possible.
However, my friend with the vibrant didn't have a data plan or smartphone prior to using it on AT&T. It got 3G speeds, doesn't mean at some point they don't look at it and go "hey wait" you need a data plan. Just saying it worked.

AT&T won't automatically detect it. Tell AT&T Customer Support your old device information and chances are that you'll be good (no dataplan). I unlocked the Galaxy S 4G/added it to AT&T and I didn't have the device automatically added- I had to call so that they could set it up. They still had me down as an old Razr (the phone i was temporarily using).
i used to have a samsung focus. as soon as i insert the sim card to it. it will trigger adding a data plan to my account. I hate to pay for that because i don't use it much

Data won't work on Bell unlocked version for AT&T?

Hello, I bought an unlocked version of the sensation originally from bell to use on AT&T. I had an iPhone 4 which had a mini sim and went to AT&T to switch it out, they gave me a normal sim but the data didn't work. I went there today to ask them about it and they tried to manually put in the APN settings, but had no luck. Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks in advance.
Do you guys think this is AT&T's problem? Could it be a problem with the sim change because I got text on the new phone saying"thank you for upgrading your phone" could it have taken away the data?
Just call them and check. You should be able to add the unlimited non smartphone data for $15 and still get the same 3g speeds. Tell them you switched to a dumb phone and give the sensation imei if they ask. Their system won't be able to recognize that you are using a smartphone.
If you need apn settings let me know, the default wap.cingular should work fine.

[Q] Webconnect on HTC Sensation

Hey everyone, I apologize if this has been asked before. I did search but no result.
I have a webconnect plan from T-mobile with hotspot device but would like to use it with my Sensation.
My goal is to use Google Voice with GrooveIp on the webconnect plan using my Sensation.
The SIM works just fine with hotspot device but when I put the SIM in Sensation it does not work.
Is there any setting that I have to change?
Your reply is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hmmm, so no one has any answer..
Well I just want to update anyone interested in doing the same thing..
The thing is T-Mobile is blocking Sensation's IMEI number from using this service not just Sensation but all the phones that T-Mobile has or had in their inventory.
I tried this on Sensation, MyTouch 4G, and Motorola Charm same thing.
But when I tried using the SIM on a non T-Mobile branded Nokia phone it worked fine. I could browse the internet and what not, even the sms worked just fine.
So I decided to take the risk and bought myself a Xperia X10i which I hope will not be blocked by T-Mobile and eventually I will be able to use the webconnect SIM in it and use Google Voice as my primary calling source.
Again, if anyone has any experience on this matter please do share.
thanks.

Hi Tatail,
If I'm not mistaken, T-Mobile's webconnect and their Mobile Hotspot services are little bit different.
webconnect is a prepaid service (3G data), and Hotspot is not (4G data as of now).
My guess is that your webconnect does not work with Sensation because Sensation comes with an official hotspot app, and no webconnect app.
Webconnect is not configured to work with HTC Sensation 4G, and vice versa.
I may be wrong, but I think that's the problem you're experiencing. Hope this helps!

Hi Tatail,
Just a quick followup. I talked to my cousin, who is a T-Mobile sales rep, and she told me the following:
The T-mobile hotspot sim card is configured only for hotspot devices and older 3rd party devices.
The hotspot sim will not work with newer T-Mobile phones because it's a complementary service to a voice/data service package from T-Mobile.
In an effort by T-Mobile to avoid people doing what you are wanting to do, they sim-locked their current phone lineups (for the last year she thinks) so that hotspot sim cards are incompatible with the phones.
Only way to use your hotspot service on your phone is to use the wifi from your hotspot device and connect your phone.
Hope this clears it up.
