From leaked 3.1 US to 3.0 WW?? Possible? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. Well lol.. noobs just shouldnt play. =)
I was on WW 8.2.3.13 and updated to US 3.1. Now im having some problems with it. Been freezing and stuff.
So.. is it possible in anyway to go back to ww version so i can get th OTA version when it comes?
Found a link with the WW firmware. Tried to use it and boot with volume down but it wont work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090291

what i had to do was download the 8239 update from asus put it in microsd/asus/update then i hade to rename the file to ww_epad-user-8.4.4.5.zip. you should see update avaliable in the bottom right hand corner of the taskbar then select update. Then ur tf should do the rest itself.

Worked great! thanx =)

I tried this, it isnt offering me an update, no exclamation mark either

Did you put the file in microsd/asus/update (the removable sd card not internal)

yes I have put it there. Wont it need to be called us to fool it I can put it over the top? I need to return to WW stock rom. Will this unroot it and remove CWM too?

I am on PRIMORDIAL v3.1 btw

Hi guys!
Ok, place the zip file on microsd card. Then turn the transformer off.
Hold power and volume down until it boots up and you see the small text.
Now hurry and press volume upp right away. That seem to force it to start the firmware. I used the ww epad 8.2.3.13.
I dont know if its ok when your rooted tho..

Does anyone have the blob from the leaked 3.1, as the file has been pulled off the forums
thanks

Hello,
It doesn't work for me, is there any other thing to do ?
What i've done :
1) Make a folder called ASUS/Update from the root of your microSD card
2) Drop the .zip in there, rename to 'US_epad-user-8.4.4.5.zip'
3) If you're doing this on the Transformer itself, eject and remount the SD card. If on your PC, just plug the card in.
4) Click the update notification, it'll start the updater on it's own.
Got the notification, started it but got the warning when reboot itself in recovery, no update.

To quote meself. Try the above. I used 8.2.3.13 tho.

Do I have to rename it or anything else ?

Hi, i didnt do that. Just booted with power and volume down. Then as soon as the small text appear on left side i pressed volume up. That way it flashes it right away.

Ok, someone on a french forum find the solution that worked for me !
Download the last WW update on the Asus Website
Open the .zip file, in the ASUS/Update folder there will be another .zip file
Rename it EP101_SDUPDATE.zip and put it to the root of your external microSDcard
Boot in recovery (volume down and power) and then press volume up when it's asked in the upper left corner.
Let the update apply.
Once it boot, power off your tab, boot again in recovery, wait to have the wipe menu, confirme to wipe your device, let it wipe and reboot and that's ok !

Sounds like you were using the wrong .zip file to begin with. There were a few going around. One was a zip with a zip in it, which you need to do what you did, another simply was that inner zip file. If you named the inner zip to US_epad-user-8.4.4.5.zip and followed the directions as posted previously it probably would've worked as well. Just looks like you had one copy of the zip and the instructions for the other

Was on TW_epad_user_8239 and updated to the leak 3.1 with US firmware.
managed to downgrade (all the way back to TW_epad_user_82313) and TF auto prompt me upgrade to TW_epad_user_8239 (with numerous reset)
However, there are many android.process* crashes...

Un-Do Root URGANT!!!

Now, Idk what the heck is wrong with my G1, but it is doing it. -_-
Ok, heres the WHOLE story so sit back and relax...
When I dound this app on atrackdog advertisment it said you could tether your G1 so you could give internet to like your computer or any other wireless picking devices. Now I thought "Hey, why don't I do this?" and so I did. When I launched the program, it said I needed a Root G1. Now, I tryed doing something with my Ipod once and I bricked it. Had to send it back to Apple and got a new one. Anyway, back to the story. I went to the XDA forums thingy were it showed you How To get root on a G1. So guess what I did? You know! lol I tryed to root my G1. Now I got threw ALL the steps were it said "You know have a rooted G1" and I was like YAY, but it ended up not working. I tryed 2 tethering apps that both said I still didnt have a rooted G1. Now that made me p.o'ed. So I try to fix it by downloading updates, renaming them update.zip and etc... ALL OF THEM did not work! I mean come on! The files were RC33 updates I found on the web. I talked to a guy on T-MObile Forums (a MOD named Chris) and he tryed to help me. He went on vacation for the weekend so I will try to fix it myself by asking you guys Back to the story, he told me (chris) that I need towait for a automaticly update during the day. Well I waited and got one. Everytime I try to update it it does the normal rutine. Resets, goes to the box unpacking software to the G1, swirly line, starts to load, and poof! I get a screen that has a tringle with a explimation mark in it. I ushally pressed the alt-l to see the list, aand then pressed alt-s to download from sd. Didnt work (probily becouse it is not coming from the sdcard, but from online ) so I reset phone. Chris (the mod) told me to wait on the screen becouse it might be just loading on there for the update. Well I waited for 3 hours and it stayed on the ! mark! So now I am stuck with a G1 that says it is and isnt rooted (maybe bricked, hope not becouse it still works...) and I REALLY need help!!!
Now I have restarted (meaning master reset) the thing 3 times already! I will do it again ONLY IF this is the only way it will work.
Please Help ASAP!
Yikes. Wall of text FTL. You should have sat down and distilled your entire narrative into a few cohesive sentences. It makes it easier for folks to help you if they can understand what yer sayin'.

You can just put a standard update.zip onto the sdcard (use an external card reader) and Alt-S as normal. If for some reason you can't get the update.zip to work (for example if you already replaced the keys with testkeys) then the absolute end-all-complete-start-from-scratch is to use the DREAIMG.NBH file. Follow steps 1 through 6 in "Preparing to get root" at this thread. After that, you can apply official updates normally.
I suggest you not attempt to root your phone after you recover it.
you need to revert back to RC29, follow the instructions in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
1. Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
* A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
2. Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAMIMG.nbh file to the SD card. (RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
3. Turn the device power off.
4. Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode. You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
5. As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
then you can up date to RC30 then to RC33 manually or just wait for the
phone to get the updates on its own.

Possible fix for lost root with 8.6.5.21

2nd update today! 4th Jan
Thanks to GLS9 and Baseballfanz for the info. It seems we have a universal root. 'Nachoroot'.
Check it out here if you were left stuck with the other methods. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427838
Mangraa posted this. Hopefully it will help those who have been stuck so far. 4th Jan 2012
- Get Razorclaw and install it, no root needed.
- Get the recovery installer and do the same.
- Check your version info. You'll see a pair of letter which are like the "WW", "UK", "US" pairs in the various update files. It appears, at least when I was trying to do this, that you cannot use unmatched pairs (I don't know about the "WW" one, since I started with US and (accidentally) went to .13 US version).
- Follow the instructions regarding downloading the .13 update (WW version and/or whatever letter pair your tablet uses, in case the WW doesn't work). Unzip, slap on external SD, power off, power on with down volume, volume up to go to recovery, bang. Done.
- Do the same thing with the megaupload file (.19). The second option did fix the problem I had, which was trying to update to a WW.19 firmware from a US.13 - DO THE DOUBLE FILE/RENAME TRICK. It works perfectly.
- Run razorclaw, run recovery installer, and gloat.
Seriously, now knowing how the paired-letters-not-compatible-with-other-letters thing works, the whole process would take maybe 10-15 minutes tops. Thanks for the post!
update. Success does seem to vary and some people have managed to make this work with a different SD and other variations. If my method or Trip's doesn't work for you have a look at some of the tweaks that other guys have used. If you did something different and it works let us know. Thanks.
I have a UK transformer and I lost root after the OTA 8.6.5.21 update. Yes, should have checked before applying.
Wasn't able to root with NVFlash so I downloaded http://www.multiupload.com/X65RBVD2MB the 8.6.6.19 file that was posted by Lizard here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393953&page=3
I unzipped it until I had the WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip file. I placed this on the root directory of the external SD card and when I rebooted it gave me the option to install.
This installed OK so I just re-ran Razorclaw and sorted. I have superuser back.
Warnings and all. This would seem to be the US update but is working fine on my UK B70 (presumably SBK2 pad). I've installed CWM and backed up too. No promises that this won't destroy your pad/steal your gal or boy/shoot your dog.

That was formatted with NTFS.Tried another microSD in FAT32, just copied the WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip file and VOILA', all worked flawlessy (method 1).
Step by step
1) Download http://www.multiupload.com/X65RBVD2MB
2) Unzip so you have just have WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip. Keep this zipped and copy to root of external micro SD.
3) Reboot with card in place, don't enter recovery.
4) When it booted back into the OS I had a triangle in the notification bar. I clicked this and it offered to install the update.
5) After tab updated as usual I just re-ran Razorclaw and I had root back.
Update. trippmcnealy had success with a tweak to this. If it doesn't work you might want to follow his method.
1) Download http://www.multiupload.com/X65RBVD2MB
2) Unzip so you have just have "WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip". Keep this zipped and copy to root of external SD.
3) Put another copy of the same file on your external SD card and name it "EP101_SDUPDATE.zip"
4) Put both files "EP101_SDUPDATE.zip" and "WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip" on the root of your internal SD card.
5) Power down your TF
6) Power up into recovery - by pressing the power button and volume down button. Then press volume up when instructed by the screen.
7) You should now see the Android guy with some gears turning. This is good, actually this is GREAT! This will go on for a minute or so and then the device will reboot on its own. It will then go to the boot screen and you should see a bar showing you the progress of the update.
8) Once it has completed, install RazorClaw and root your device.
Tips from Baseballfanz
For those not able to get it working, a few things to check.
1-Make sure you actually extract the WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip within the zip. Inside the file you download is an Asus folder, inside that is an Update folder, inside that is the WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip file you'll be working with.
2-When renaming, if your PC is set to "hide known extension", you'll not see the .zip so if you type in .zip you'll get filename.zip.zip The file manager on the TF should show you the extension
3-Make sure it's on the root of the sd card and not within any folder.
4-Check spelling of files
WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip EP101_SDUPATED.zip
5-Micro sd card is in FAT32 format. Try a different card or format again (after saving your stuffs)
6-File manager on the TF sdcard is internal and Removable/MicroSD is the external sd card.
Suggestions
It would be useful for people to report info with posts about success or not. What SBK, serial number (B70 etc) and current firmware are you on? I'm no dev but hopefully we can make things easier for others.

So you don't need anything else but stock? I will try this now, and does it wipe your data? Used asus backup just in case.
Cool
Hi,
thanks for the info. As far as I know the WW-version is not US only, but should match the version you have (you can check that in the settings/about tablet).
As far as I know WW stands for WorldWide and actually means US and (most of) Europe. There are special versions for Taiwan, Germany and Canada though...
I will try this later with my transformer (bought in switzerland) - i should work!
Regards, Thomas
Yeah I was thinking that. It comes with all the country files anyway.
I tried this a couple of days ago and it didn't work, turns out I unzipped the wrong file.
Unzip the .19 update to the root of your sdcard and reboot the transformer if it doesn't detect the update.
Now I haz root.

Hi there,
I unzipped to external and rebooted with the card in place. I didn't use recovery. The OS detected the update and offered to install. Just proceeded from there.
I mentioned the US update as the file is 8.6.6.19 not 8.6.5.19
Good luck.
I'm still getting the dreaded triangle when trying this fix, any suggestions?

Can you talk us through what you did and your setup? I'm no expert but hopefully we can find out what's awry.

The honeycomb upgrading 'droid is so cool! I think its working fine!
If anyone could make a Uk one, that would be great. I am thinking the reason why this is working is because of the increase in firmware numbers, from x.x.5 to x.x.6.
Hi Seg2012

Going to flash this to my B90 US tablet, will report back-
This is great, worked perfectly! Now onto a custom rom! Revolver I think!
First off I downloaded the WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip file. I placed this on the root directory of the micro SD card. Secondly I reboot my new baby using the power button and the down rocker of the volume button.I then pressed the up rocker to get into the recovery mode, now I only then get the green android with the yellow triangle with exclamation. My Asus tf is HTK7.WW.EPAD-8.6.521-20111216 any help would most appreciated.

[Q] Difficulting Rooting

So I just got my TF101 and I am also relatively new to Android. I am on version 3.2.1, Kernel 2.6.36.3 ([email protected] #1), Build number HTK75.US_epad-8.6.5.13, and my Serial number starts with B80KA.
Since I am on 8.6.5.13, I can't use Razorclaw, which is unfortunate.
I have tried using the Transformer Root Toolkit v7.1, but I can not get it to recognize the device when it is in APX mode so I am stuck there.
I also looked at this thread and followed those steps to no avail. Should I grab the OTA update and try those steps again? Or is there an easier way?
Thanks!
Edit: Fixed Serial.
First of wrong serial number.
Use the serial number on the bottom of your tablet or the back of your box.

if you grab the OTA you'll get 8.6.5.21 which definitely is NOT rootable with Razorclaw.
seems like the two methods is almost similar but slight different, i would at least try both to see which one work if any.

You should search for OTA .19, I think it was posted around here somewhere or maybe via google, so you can update to .19 and use Razorclaw's tool.
Well I have 8.6.6.19 (in the form of UpdateLauncher_WW_epaduser8_6_6_19.zip), so does it matter that it is the one for the TF101G and not the TF101?
Also, what exactly do I do with that zip file to install the update? I tried booting into recovery but that didn't do much.

Now my last question is hopefully more simple. What do I do since my TF downloaded the OTA update? Is there a way to permanently postpone the update install? Will it go away if I install a custom ROM?

If you install a custom ROM it will go away. Alternatively you can install the latest stock ROM with root by installing this "custom" stock+root ROM. The system will be left exactly like you had somehow rooted the latest stock ROM.
You could flash a rooted stock rom or you can go into

Make sure it's on the root of the sd card and not in any folder
File name:
Code:
WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip
EP101_SDUPATED.zip
Maybe try a different sd card if you have one.
Also just double checking but when entering recovery,
are you waiting to see the words at the top left of the screen prompting
you before pushing Vol up.

Ok, i gona try with a different sd card. Yes i know, i see the words, then I push Vol up to load boot.
Remember that I have a TF101G and not TF101.

Yes the files that everyone is using is actually made for the TF101G
but it's also working on the TF101.

I tried a different sd card but give me the same error. I saw the Android guy with some gears turning but 10/15 seconds later appears a yellow triangle
Hi dinotav,
I don't think we (those with TF101G/8.6.6.23) have any options at this point.

SK4G CWM not working? Intro screen location? Help a Noob!

Okay, so I am rather new to Rooting and Development. I had a couple issues and questions I need addresses for the Sidekick 4g.
First, I am having a problem getting the CWM recovery to work. I have already Rooted my phone via the SuperOneClick app. When I replace the recovery file in system/bin, with the update.zip on the root of my SD card, I flash the CWM recovery from ROM manager. When I reset my device holding Vol -, +, and power key, it still brings me to the Blue colored Samsung Recovery. WTF?
Second, I am a photoshop-head, and I wanted to customize my device. I have already located the 78 PNG files that compose the power-off video animation and altered them to create my own power-off sequence. But I am trying to locate the image file for the T-Mobile Sidekick 4g Samsung screen that comes on when you initially power-on the device.
also, when I replaced the PNG files for the power-off animation, it plays a bit more slowly when powering off. I believe this is because the PNG files I replaced the originals with must me larger in file size. The dimensions and resolution are still the same. anybody know a good way to reduce PNG file size? this one isnt as important I could prob. figure that out on my own with a little trial-and-error.
BUT I NEED THIS CWM WORKING! HELP!
1st ever post on here
In the blue recovery it should say something like install zip. You have to click that an install the update.zip file on your SD card.

for some reason on the blue recovery I dont have that option? just re-install packages, clear cache, reboot, etc. no install from zip option. I thought that option was only available on the red recovery, which is why im trying to get that one. I replaced the recovery file in system/bin already multiple times and still no luck.

I thought there was a option in stock recovery that said install update from SD card and then it would install the one you put on the SD card and then it would bring you in too the custom recovery.
Actually im pretty sure you have to click reinstall packages and that will bring you into it.

[Q] TF700 Stuck on Loading Screen

My Asus Transformer TF700 got stuck last night, and I can't start it since - it is stuck on the loading screen, where there is a spinning wheel under the Asus logo.
I tried factory resetting according to the following steps I found:
1) Holding the power + volume down buttons.
2) Navigating to the Wipe Data option using the volume down button.
3) Selecting and approving using the volume up button.
Then it said "Erasing" for a short period of time and restarted - back to the same loading screen.
Is there anything else I can do?

Are you pure stock?
No root, custom ROM, recovery?

Yeah, pure stock. Bought it almost two years ago and haven't made any modifications.

Ok in that case your only option is to reflash the Asus firmware - provided you can still boot into recovery. But since you an get to the Wipe Data option in the bootloader, there's a good chance recovery still works.
The following is from Preatoriano's All-in-one guide from the General section , updated for current instructions:
1) Download the desired Asus stock firmware for your SKU (region) which would be 10.6.1.14.10 from Asus/support/downloads
2) Extract the .zip file somewere on your desktop (the result will be another .zip file, use it for step 3)
3) Rename the extracted archive to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip" (without the " " and make sure file extensions are showing in Windows Explorer. You don't want to name the file EP_201_768_SDUPDATE.zip.zip) and upload it to a fat32 formatted MicroSD card
4) Insert the MicroSD card in your tablet and boot up by pressing Volume Down and POWER to get in to the bootloader menu. RCK should be flashing, push Vol Up to enter recovery.
The recovery should detect the sdupdate.zip and start to flash it. It probably reboots when it's finished, if it doesn't long press Power
Good luck
Hi, thanks for the reply.
I'm afraid this didn't seem to work. Could there be something I got wrong here?
- I downloaded the zip file here:
support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ASUS+Transformer+Pad+Infinity+TF700T&p=28&s=1 (can't post the link properly as a new user),
then selected Android and then the first option under Firmware (Version V10.6.1.14.10, 493MB, 2013.08.28 update).
- Extracted the zip file and renamed to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip (no double zip extension).
- Copied the file to a Micro SD card from an old Galaxy S2 phone, after formatting it.
- Inserted the SD card to the tablet, and pressed the power and volume down buttons until a menu appeared.
- Selected RCK using volume down.
What appears next is a brief "Installing System Update" message, and then a dead Android with the message "Error!" - which is what happened without the SD card as well.
Maybe the file should have been named something else or located within some folder?
More information regarding that menu:
At the upper left corner, the following text appears:
Android card hu-user bootloader <1.00 e> released by "WW_epad-10.6.1.14.10-20130801" A03
Key driver not found.. Booting OS

You have to download the firmware for your SKU or region! If you took the first version, you got the JP version which is for Japan
You have to dwnld the WW (worldwide) version which is the second on the download page.
These files are signed and stock recovery checks that signature to make sure you install the correct SKU.
Follow the same steps with the correct firmware and it'll work

Same behavior (an error message a couple of seconds after the "Installing System Update" comes up) when using the WW version
Is there any way to check if the SD card and the file were even recognized? Is it possible that the card isn't the right type somehow?.. (it's from a Galaxy S2 and it fits but feels a bit loose)

Loose? You have to use your finger nail to push it in. You should clearly feel the spring load mechanism engage?
Card has to be fat32 formatted and update file not in any folder, top level of the card.
Is all that true?

OK, that's a really weird one - although it really seemed to be the right type of card, I couldn't get it to "click in" properly no matter what.
So I ended up pushing it and holding it in while performing the reboot process - and it worked! Sat there for about five minutes without moving my finger, worried this might screw up the installation
Bottom line - the tablet seems alive and well now, thanks a lot for the help!

Phew! Makes me sweat just reading that! If your finger had slipped, you could have perma-bricked your tablet!!!
Kids - don't try this at home!
But I'm glad you got it working again. End's well all swell... :highfive:
