Hi xda. Ok so the thing is every time I have installed a rom the default video player doesn't work. It say file cannot be played or played but when I flash back to 2.1 using rsdlite the default video player works fine. Any idea how to fix this? And please don't reply by saying that use a 3rd party video player. Thanks

Video playing works for me on the custom ROMs, but I don't play a lot of video. My guess is you've found a specific format that has trouble? (I've played back mp4 and gp3 and some others I think, but I can't remember which)
I'm referring go mp4s but here is the twist it plays mp4 files smaller than 10 mb but would play bigger files

I'm trying to nail down a definitive list of proprietary files for XT720. I'll see if I can find a big video and check this out. Have you tried in the stock Korean froyo by any chance?
I have tried tried it in stock korean froyo but don't a lot of sensors don't work on it. Btw just watched mw3 trailer on stock player it was around 8 mb and was a mp4 file

Hi all,
I just got my Xoom in the mail yesterday so please forgive me if this seems like a really NOOB question but...
I was trying to watch some movies on my Xoom from a mobile website that I have used / watched without any problems on ALL of my other mobile devices including my SGS I9000M, Nexus S AND my HTC HD7 Windows Phone but when I try to watch these vids on my Xoom I immediately get an error stating that "this movie cannot be played".
I looked in my applications drawer and I do NOT see any "Movie Player" or "Video Player" app listed and this has me quite confused.
If there IS a stock "Movie / Video Player" can anyone tell me where it is hiding on the device and if there is NOT a stock "Movie / Video Player", can anyone tell me what the best app from the market would be that will play videos directly from the web in a seperate media player?
Thanks in advance...
There is not. Videos are tied into the gallery. I use MoboPlayer as a video player from the market.

What website is it? Does it require flash and do you have it installed? Maybe download dolphin hd web browser and try it on that.
Your in for a rude awakening. Multimedia sucks on The Xoom(Tegra2) and you need to 'convert' almost every type of movie file since majority are High or Baseline profile.

This, I'm hoping its a software issue that google can fix. I hope VLC can maybe create a software decoding solution for us too maybe.
IF u dont plan on returning it then go to this thread

Have you tried RockPlayer
Sent from my Galaxy S using Tapatalk.
A friend of mine recorded a video with her Samsung Captivate, and sent it to me via e-mail.
I can't play it on my phone. ("Sorry, this video cannot be played.")
I am able to play the video on my PC, and I transferred it to my phone's SD Card using a USB cable and Mass Storage Mode.
I have the default video player installed, nothing extra and fancy.
I would think that there wouldn't be any problems playing the video on my phone since it was created on a phone.
I know there are other video apps out there, and I would love a recommendation for one that I can set as default and lose the built in video playback.
I would prefer to fix the built in player however.
I'm running KD1, stock, odexed, rooted.
If you're looking for a player. I like double twist. Easy to use in my opinion and I never encountered a problem

My phone is stock and won't play mp4's or mp3's. It has been doing this for about a week since my last ota.
My phone will play Mp4s, but only if they are recorded on my phone. If it came from someone else's phone, I may as well forget it. Very frustrating.
Slinger, you have to be careful since even if a file is a ".mp4" it might be encoded with a different codec. Our phones support MP4 files with a x264 codec for video and AAC audio. If the file you're trying to play isn't in that format, the default player won't accept it.
You can download Rockplayer Lite to play most other formats:

Thanks for the tip. So is the encoding on Captivate different? (that would explain a lot.)

Captivate encoding is the same as the vibrant, meaning the file should play on the galaxy s 4g. If I had a captivate or vibrant I would test it out and report back.

This is kind of random, but my sister has the same problem on her vibrant. She downloaded launcher 7 to try it out and all of a sudden her videos played again...nothing else was changed.

The video player can play a video taken from camcorder just fine. However, the screen goes black and app does not respond after the video ends. Able to use home key to return to home page, but the app is unresponsive until force close and restarted. I get the same result when viewing videos thru the camcorder mode or directly from the native video player app. Is there something I have overlooked?
Not sure if this went on with prior version as I am only putting the rom through its paces seeing how stable this version has been for me. Thanks for any insight anyone may be able to shed. By the way, I've tried both the 2d & 3.1 kernel with similar results.
Delete the .apk, clear cache partition and dalvik cache, fix permissions, reboot let phone sit 10 minutes then push the video player .apk from the stock rom and see if that helps. Or download a different one from the market.

Does that mean it is working? I hope so. Add [SOLVED] to the thread title. Thanks.

What's the best video browser player to use for you? You know how when on browser and says "complete action using" and you choose a player depending if you have any installed..the default one on cm7 is not something I like. i want one that loads it and keeps that load so if I go to the beginning oof the video it wont need to reload.

The best media video player that i have come across so far is MOBOplayer can play pretty much any file format you throw at it, i was introduced to it by a friend and never looked back.
It should be on the market if you search for it.
I usually use coreplayer.
Mx video player
Hit thanks if it helps....

My vote goes to MoboPlayer.

I like MoboPlayer. Also has a handy screen lock feature if you want kids to watch stuff on your phone.
So does mobo player work with online videos?
"Edit: doesn't work on online videos.

Download doubleTwist Player from the Market. There is NOTHING I couldn't play using that app.
Edit:
I didn't have time to elaborate in my first reply. I'm thinking your issue may be your video player (I'm assuming you are using the stock one). I noticed that sometimes the stock video player doesn't play all formats. I too had problems before with some YouTube and porn videos lol. I haven't had a single issue playing videos using doubleTwist.
@pak
I'm getting the same error as you now on YouTube through my browser.
It must have something to do with the YouTube site. I was just watching YouTube videos through my phones browser (Dolphin HD) the other day.
All other video sites are working properly on my phone.
BTW. I'm on Valhalla Black and have been for some time. Pardon the two post for one reply. Is raining and I Swyped submit lol.

Actually playing videos through stock player isnt an issue. Issue arises when i try streaming youtube on stock or dolphin browser .
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
I also have this issue playing YouTube movies through dolphin mini browser. My installed video player is MX player. Playing the same YouTube videos through the YouTube app is working just fine.
BTW, I debloated my stock video player, but that was long time ago and this issue is relatively new.

I found a workaround -
1. In the browser Youtube page, once you chose the desired video,
scroll down and choose "Desktop".
2. In the opened list choose the YouTube app.
Youtube app will open and play.
