How to change LCD density - Verizon Droid Charge

**This post is mostly for Noobs** Thought I would post as it is very useful to know.
Here is how to change the lcd density on the charge manually.
**YOU MUST BE ROOTED**
1. Using root explorer go to
System>build.Prop
2. Make sure read/write capabilities are set and long press on build.Prop
3. Choose edit in text editor and the file will open
4. Go halfway down until you see lcd density =240
5. Change the density to a lower number such as 200. This will allow for a much higher resolution.
6. Save and exit
7. Reboot
***warning! If you set the density too low your phone won't run the rom correctly. Not advised under 160

Beautiful. My screen feels huge now, I went with 190 and it seems to be good, nice and small for my good eyesight. I just needed to resize my keyboard height and I was good to go.

How do you turn on read/write set capabilities? Every time I long press the build.prop i received the prompt that it's a "read only" file. Sorry for the noob question

You have to be using Root Explorer from the market, then at the top there are buttons that say mount r/w or mount r/o, just press mount r/w and then you can edit the text.

You can use Es file explorer, it has root capabilities and is free.

One thing... In what file is the phone keyboard button size located? I used 190 for the density, and now the phone keys are not centered. Quite annoying.
Thanks in advance.

via the market, send the dev for that keyboard a message saying that you would like to have that keyboard accept any lcd density and they should do it. I have done this for every app of mine and they have changed it. 95% of the apps should already have this built in. Some devs only put 200-240

Yeah, that dialer is annoying. Did you figure out how to fix it?

Screenshots?

Here is what my dialer looks like after adjusting the LCD density. It doesn't affect the phone.apk's ability to make phone calls... its just a little smaller. Not sure if samsung will respond to mere mortals like us to adjust their code to accept multiple densities.... lol

This is awesome!
The dialer was not an issue for me since I have been hooked on Dialer One since my DX days. The only alignment issue I see is with the glass lock screen, although the puzzle one is fine.

Awesome man, that's perfect. Now I just have to figure out how to get rid of the carrier label altogether . Any ideas? BTW, how'd you change your font?
I use the liberty 1.5 rom, it has a bunch of options for fonts and lets you change the carrier name out to whatever you want. So far its been very stable for me and much quicker than stock.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah, I saw the font options, but I'm not sure what adding a font does.. for instance, what'd you do in the toolbox that sets the widget font?
And I'm not talking about changing the text, I'd like to find a way to remove that whole bar, 'cause it just takes up space. I think you can do it in stock.. it's called a "roaming banner" i think
Changing the font effects all the text, everything from Widgets to menus to even the text on most websites in the default browser. It even changed the font in my clock widget. As far as removing the carrier label on the notifications I'm not sure how to remove that waste of space. I never looked into it but now since you mentioned it it's bugging me too. Let me know if you do find a way to remove it.

You long press on the home screen and select add widget like you would when adding a widget to the home screen, select widgetsoid then select a switcher widget. Pick the options you want it to have then go to the advanced tab and select both notification and make invisable. Click apply and it should now show up in the notifications bar. If you want to edit it just open widgetsroid and it will be in the widget tab. Hope this helps.

Have you been able to figure out a way to move or resize the clear button yet? I really wish I could move it to the bottom of the notification bar. [Theme] UPDATED *9/5 Transfuzion themed apks and extras for GB and Infused ROM

OK, as promised.. this thread will be dedicated to themed apks and such, dialers, keyboards, etc, mainly made for my themes, but will most likely work on most GB roms.
Almost everything here will be CWM flashable. But please bare with me, while I try to get some decent content posted. Over time It will be a better selection.
First off are a couple themed swypes. They work perfectly as any other keyboard, but the version i have working does NOT have the actual swype funtion. You will be able to see the trail but it doesnt work. A sywpe with no swype.. i know i know, but they look cool and who actually uses the swype function anyways?

I have tried both methods mentioned and got the same result. The install works as it should for the Sketch font and loads the font into the Display list but when you go to activate the font it just uses the system default font (more than likely because it cannot find the legitimate font to use). Even copying the font into the System/App directory (And yes I confirmed W/R access and also confirmed it copied after) and still nothing. I even rebooted to see if it needed a scan and update of the System to activate and no luck. The Century Gothic font installs and works fine. No copy into the System/App folder necessary just install.

+1. Glad I'm not crazy and someone else is having this problem too. The ttf in the apk works just fine if I throw it in /system/fonts (i.e. it shows up in other applications with configurable fonts), and the preview in Font Style settings shows the proper font, but for whatever reason, selecting it just uses the default font.

Yeah your not crazy.. Im not for sure why its doing that, im thinking it may be because i renamed to font from sony_sketch_ef to sonysketch, just to make my xml write ups a little easier, it shouldnt matter, but its the only thing i can think of. You could always extract the sonysketch.ttf from the apk, or i will post it later, and make a copy of it, rename one of them to DroidSans.ttf, and the other one to DroidSans-Bold.ttf, and place both of them in system/fonts. It will overwrite the default font, and u can use it that way. Thats how im using mine, cuz all i had was the .ttf, and i just thought it would be easier for everyone if i just built an apk. Just make sure to rename the exactly as i showed, caps and all. And if for some reason you are fond of the default font, back up those 2 files. Hope this helps. Thanks

Recommended LCD Density for Skyrocket

I was wondering if anyone have ever used the LCD Density changer application in the Android Market. If so, which would be the best way to correct the issues with the dialer being out of place after the density change. I prefer having smaller text on the screen that is why I've opt to changing the density to 200 and below in the settings. I will post a screenshot of the issue I am having after the density change.

[MOD] Alternate wake buttons and dedicated camera button*Final*

You can use use root explorer or any other similar program. (If using root explorer u have to toggle the r/w in the upper right to edit anything u need root access to do)
In your file browser navigate to system/usr/keylayout and select s3c-keylayout.kl file and open in a text editor or in file manager text editor.
Dedicated camera button for opening and usage.
Find the "key 217 SEARCH" line.Delete SEARCH and replace it with CAMERA in caps. (This will work fine with alternate wake)
This will open the camera and when clicked in the camera app take a pic or start/stop the video recording.
Alternate wake buttons.
After the BACK and SEARCH (or CAMERA if you changed it to that) entry type in capital letter with underscore "WAKE_DROPPED".Then save it and reboot. Now the "search" then "back" combo key will wake phone from sleep to the lockscreen every single time for a week or two that I have been trying it.
Enjoy.

Just be careful where you keep your phone when travel. The button may accidentally press while in your pocket, may run down your battery. Just a precaution, but very nice tweak.
Just can't get any text editor to save it. Any recommended app?

If you're using root explore, when you got to the folder, on the top tab R/W button. This grant read/write access, the press and hold down the file with your finger then choose Open text editor, once done you should able to save it. Your phone must be rooted in order to do this.

We were all noobs at one point. Pisses me off when I see people in threads, op or not, being a **** to one/some.

the camera mod works fine, but the back button waking to lockscreen would only work sometimes so I just changed the file back to the way it was.
just wondering, is it possible to reassign the 2 screen shot buttons. Currently they are Home and Back. Thanks.

[request]small icons

is there any way to get small icons on nexus 5 kitkat ?
i dont quite like the big icons
Uses SS launcher or Nova.
Or you can use Power Toggles and put apps on the widget (icons end up small).

You can edit your build.prop to change the dpi of the device.
By default it comes with 480 dpi set (but the screen has an actual value of 445)
I've found that a 445 value will change a lot on the device, everything will be more defined and much smaller, unfortunately this will reflect everywhere, even in the browser where things will tend to be a bit smaller. 460 seems to be a good compromise.
The line you'll need to search for in the build.prop is ro.sf.lcd_density=480
You will need root and something like ES file explorer in order to mount the system as RW to be able to edit that row and save the changes.

This worked perfectly fine! I did not like those giant icons!
I think 445 is the perfect value.
Thanks.

Yep. After seeing this thread I set mine to 445 and it looks/works just fine with all my apps.
smaller means bigger .... in terms of space !
I went full on for the small look with maximum real estate and tablet mode apps, set dpi to 240 and get 2 separate drop downs at the top and apps go dual pane like a bigger tablet , love this look so much more ..

How do I go about changing the build.prop
I open the file on the phone and use text editor but does not let me save the change.
Do you need to be rooted?

Rooted = Yes.
I use the text editor that's built in to Root Explorer. I'm sure there's other ways/apps but I've been using root explorer for so long that I don't even think about other options anymore.

Rom toolbox works very easily too.

What app are you using or are you manually editing the build.prop
May be the xposed framework and app settings module may give you the result .
Or download an app called ROM toolbox and use the editor in thee app.
Good luck .
Great tips OP. For some reason, my edits made from using root explorer would not stick and revert back to 480, even after hitting "save"
Fortunately I read more advice on trying rom toolbox and it seemed to save the build prop edit to 445. I agree, it looks perfect and has the insanely sharp feel that the HTC One had.

Use ES file explorer, works
I use Textdroider from market for DPI changing. It's simple and requires a restart ... voilĂ

Before you edit the build.prop with root explorer... at the top of all of the files in /system, you will see a mount r/o and r/w... Click r/w then make the change. Save, exit, and reboot

please donot attempt to do it manually using text editor. rather if you have rom tool box installed you get a better interface option to tweak the build prop. you can even keep the backups.
for me
460 makes a perfect gamble 4 x 6 looks decent and will keep.
