Recovery troubles - HTC Inspire 4G

I'm trying to root my phone and every time the phone hangs at the hboot screen. So today I manually entered recovery pressing vol down and power. I wanted to do a factory reset and try rooting again since I already have the OTA installed. Once in recovery I cannot navigate with the volume buttons. I have to remove the battery to even restart the phone. Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the phone?

are you mixing up cwm with the bootloader?

I have yet to get the phone rooted, so its not cwm. Am I not able to do a factory reset with the bootloader or whatever it is I get into holding volume down and power?

@OP:
When u come to HBOOT menu, give it ~20-30 seconds to be responsive. Then Press power button once or twice, and it should start responding.

Pressing the voldown and power button doesnt take you to recovery, thats hbooot, and why dont you just do a factory reset from the settings?

What if it bootloops?

Alright, I currently have a HTC Aria running CM9, I was going to purchase an HTC One X from AT&T. However, I have one question. If I root it, and the device begins to bootloop or hangs for any reason, how will I stop it? I wouldn't be able to remove the battery....

How would you go about that? Just power button and down volume button? Sorry, on my current phone the volume is broke, so I have to do it through CWM

also you can push power button for 10 seconds or more, with a bit of luck phone will turn off.
But after that you still need volume button ...
I understand now, I didn't realize that there was a kill switch and that after holding the power button down for 10 seconds, the device turns off.

Simple "Boot To Recovery" App?

So I flashed CleanROM 3.0.
The problem is, I always mess up the button presses when rebooting to recovery. On my Atrix (CM7), and my Transformer (Revolver), there was a simple "boot to recovery" option.
Anyone know of a method to get this done on the HOX?
Not really being a noob, but my fingers aren't very coordinated...lol.

In Clean ROM, just hold down the power button and choose reboot > reboot bootloader.
Or download a reboot app from Google Play such as Quick Reboot.
Quick boot works well
This is a bit silly but I can't seem to be able to get into the bootloader if my phone is off.
I can get into it by when it's on by holding Vol Down when resetting it but holding Vol Down while holding the power button when it's off doesn't seem to be working. If I let go of Vol Down, it just boots up normally.
most of the time I'm booting to recovery my phone is connected to my computer because I've just put a ROM on SD card storage
so I just adb reboot recovery

Don't let go of volume down at all until it's in bootloader.

Disable Fast Boot (settings > power).
Yeah disable fast settings but I always have problems too. What I do, I hold power and volume down, and if it doesn't work I let go of power FIRST. Then the next time I try it almost instantly boots into BL. But most ROMs have "reboot into recovery" option under the reboot when you hold down the power button while the phone is actually booted up. Every ROM I've tried on here does including CM9.
Turns out I wasn't holding it down for long enough, especially compared to my old Desire which was much quicker.
Thanks.
Thanks guys, I completely missed the option in the power menu while hitting restart lol.

soft brick!!

i rooted and bootload unlocked on 2.20 flashed boot.img via fastboot and then flashed cm10. everything work fine. then i decided to flash codename. first thing i did was flash codename boot.img before i did anything and thats where i messed up. cant get into fastboot with power and volume up+down it just goes to htc screen with red warning sign. and when i try to boot up phone it gets to home screen and keeps forclosing not allowing me to do anything....
it sounds like you lost recovery, keep trying to get into bootloader then flash twrp again.

wont let me get into bootloader. the power and volumes just keeps booting the phone up and stuck on infinite forclosing
happend to me a few minutes ago it was nasty try to shut down the phone and then
before it loops quickly power+volume down and after the one xl buttons stop flashing hold the
volume down and keep holding it until bootloader shows up
press and hold power button until capacitive buttons flash 6 times. then hold volume down. phone will boot into bootloader. carry on from there.
The problem is you weren't holding the right keys to get into bootloader.... and everything is fc'ing because your running codenames kernel on cm10.

2- While the phone is turned off, press and hold the Volume Down button. Then, while holding, press and release the Power button.
3-While the phone is off, press and hold down Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time

Yes, i booted into the bootloader and hit reboot, but since then i cant enter again the bootloader which is why i started this thread..
I press these buttons the right way ..i'e tryied all the combinations with battery re-insert each time but nothing...
Leave battery out for some time (10 min.), then while holding vol- pres power key, DO NOT release vol- it should get in the bootloader, then simply just flash some rom from recovery. The important thing is to leave it 10 minutes first.
Or try something else, while the phone is off, insert the usb in it, with me it's turning on, it's cwm recovery bug, but a good one .
not able to acces recovery mode
i am using htc explorer with jaggy rom 3.after few months when i tried to go in recovery mode my phone reboots.i tried re flashing CWM recovery.it says successful but still i am not able to access??????????
Hey,
Are you able to go to bootloader? If yes don't worry you will have to reflash the recovery. Download twrp or yannous recovery. And flash it,

I'm not sure at what condition is your phone right now. But the most common process I'm telling you is,
Take out your battery. Reinsert.
Hold down power button and volume down button all together until you get your screen emits light. This will take you to the fastboot menu. There select Recovery mode(no matter which recovery you're using). Like if you're usin ClockworkMod Recovery. In the menu, select wipe data/factory reset. Then go to mounts and format option. Mount /cache, /data, /system, /sd-ext(in case you're having a second partition). Remember NOT to mount sd-card. Right from the same menu, format boot, cache, system, data, sd-ext. This time again remember NOT to format sd-card otherwise you'll loose all your data. Now go back to main menu and select advanced option. There select wipe dalvik-cache to not to face low memory problems. Now go back. Select install zip from sd-card. choose zip from sd-card(choose the zip folder of a custom ROM). Install the package. Wait. After completion, reboot or you may have wipe data/factory reset before rebooting. These are the most common steps that works in almost every custom ROM. You can also follow the particular steps (if given) from anywhere you downloaded it. Wait for 2-5 or more minutes at the first boot as it take more time. The process may appears complicated but you'll find it easy when you'll do it.
Hope this thing will sort out your problem. Please hit 'Thanks' if I helped you or atleast do it for humanity that I typed that much for you.

I think he is having key combination problem.
@ S.alwaz
He should press volume down key first and then keeping the vol down key pressed, press the power as well. Now keep pressed both until bootloader appears. Enter recovery and follow the post above for flashing New ROM.
Pressing power first and then volume down key doesn't work. I checked here.

Hey , this was a problem for me when my pico went to recovery on connecting charger when phone was switched off..
then i flashed the yannou90's recovery and now it charges with the animation while its off...
not going into recovery when charger is connected...
And @cpgr
try this if it works...
1.)connect your phone to ac charger and leave for 30 minutes
2.)remove the charger and press the key combination as- press the volume down key and keep it pressed...now press the power key and keep both the keys pressed till the screen turns on... then leave the power key first and then the volume down key...
3.)now go to the recovery... [ is it working for you...??]....{ALSO, i recommend yannou90's cwm based recovery, you should try that as well if you already don't have it... }
4.)then wipe data/factory reset , wipe cache and install any Custom rom you like...
....
...
.
After this all.... give a detailed reply on whats not working for you...in the above steps...
i think these should work out great....
best of luck

Loop boot without a root. Help needed.

Suddenly my phone (z710e) jumped into a loop boot.
It's not rooted, no custom stuff, no custom bootloader.
It loads fine, but after 1-2 seconds reboots.
I've already tried to unbrick it with no result, computer can't see my phone.
Help with an advice or a link or anything useful will be great!
Thanks!

If i remember correctly you can wipe cache from the stock recovery. Boot into hboot by holding down volume down and power. Use the volume buttons to highlight recovery and press power. Then you will see a little android or a red exclamation in a triangle. Press the volume buttons and power until options appear on the screen. If it gives you wipe cache, them wipe it. Other wipe options may/will remove your personal data so use caution and know the risks

Okay, remove your battery then replace after 10 seconds. Then hold volume down first, then while volume down is still depressed begin holding power as well. If you see the htc splash screen then it has failed. Battery pull and try again. Have you ever used adb on this device?

adb - no, did not used
Solution was - to disassemble it and assemble... After that phone booted normally. :victory:
