I know this may be a stupid question, the G2X did not come with an SD Card, so is there a way to flash a custom ROM without an SD Card?

Yes there is!! Go over to the development section and read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060715 you would have to.
1.root
2.install INTERNAL recovery via nvfash
3. Flash away...
Internal recovery will let you flash stuff in the g2x internal storage..thus eliminating the need of sd card.
G2X
Yep. Flash the latest internal SD version of cwm in the Dev section

NvFlash has been updated to use internal or external by Krylon360!
Read some more!
.....
Kept reading, and did not see anything about internal...and if I wanted a ROM, I would have to place it on the SD Card, I am just going to get one of the Gingerbread ROM's, but my question is, how is the battery life, is it still horrible? Can someone post a video tutorial about how to internal recovery via nvfash? Internal recovery is Clockwork Mod Recovery Correct? I am coming from installing custom ROMS on the HTC HD2, so I am not new to this, but I would like a video step by step, and even if I get that far, I have to put the ROM I want on the SD Card which I do not have, in order to flash it....
Sorry for the questions, I just want to make sure I have the correct video and info, so I do not brick my phone

Do you have a physical sd card in the phone. The backups made in CWM are made to the 'external sd card' which is a micro-sd card you insert into your phone. If you are just using the internal memory I believe the backup will fail as it is looking for an actual sd card. Sounds like you are using ROM manager also. Probably the same reason it cannot download any other recoveries. But you should only flash a recovery with NVFlash. ROM manager does not install recovery to the actual recovery partition and does what people here call a 'fake flash' and is storing the recovery image elsewhere on the phone and tricking the phone to boot into it by having recovery apply an update.zip at boot. Use real recovery not fake RM recovery.
I figured it out, its just that my SD card went bad it wont even let me format it again. I pit a new SD in there and its working just right. Any one have any tips on the SD card card dying?

Is it a cheap Chinese SD card? If so just break it in half and throw it away. If a good card try deleting the partition, create a new partition, make it active and try to format it. There are also freeware apps you can download to try and repair sd cards. if that fails toss it, its life is over. :-( Not worth risking your device on a bad card. I had a cheap Chinese chard in a BlackBerry and the BlackBerry kept running erratically and rebotting, etc. It turned out to be the sd card causing all the problems. Once I put a new one in the BB worked with no problems again.
I looked for an answer before posting but couldn't find it and hoping someone can help out. I rooted my rogers skyrocket and installed ClockworkMod Recovery. I am trying to install a new ROM but when I boot in recovery I cannot see the .zip file on the SD Card but I can see it in file manager. Any ideas or solutions?
Is the zip on the external or internal SD?
rocketed to da sky using mah brain and mah thumbs...
If on internal u have to select install from internal

Its on the external card.
Is it on the root of external sdcard? Excuse me for asking the obvious question but a lot of times its something silly that's been overlooked.

Yes, its on the root of the external SD card but I can only see the folders and no other files.
Look at the file format. Make sure its .zip and not .zip.zip. sometimes copying files from your computer to your phone will do this.

Its .zip and not .zip.zip but I am only seeing it in the file manager or on the computer when the phone is connected but in CWM all I see is the folders of the SD card and no other file.
This is really starting to piss me off, I downloaded about 5 different roms and none of them is showing on the SD card in CWM recovery in order to install. Is there any other way to install the ROM or anything I could do to see the files in CWM? I am sure the .zip file is on the SD card and I can see it when i file manager but once I go into CWM to install I cant see it. If anyone had this problem and has a way to fix it please let me know. Thank you.
I think I found a way to do it and its through Rom manager, there is an option to install ROM from SD card I clicked it and now i think its installing. Hope it works. I'll post my results in case someone has the same problem.
Solved the problem. I can only flash new ROM from ROM manager.
Try flashing cwm again or flash touch cwm.

Make sure your as card is readable in your computer. I've actually make the mistake of formatting my SD card thinking it meant internal SD. So I pull it real fast just to realize I list ALL my data anyway. Point is, after that my SD card wouldn't mount. As long as your SD is in good shape it should mount in recovery.

I re-read and noticed the "latest" recovery. I never upgraded myself. Still 5.8.1.3.

Is there any way on the gs3 to save your nandroids to the ext SD card?
Mine shows the option greyed out.

If you booted into CWM using the EZ Recovery app then you would notice that you can manually save backups to either sd card.

It might also be that you don't have your external card formatted to fat32. CWM doesn't like the exFat format that I believe all big cards come in.

If your talking about rom manager then yea thats normal!
On a side note, I recomend flashing files manually in CWM recovery...you would not believe how many threads I have helped folks get out of a softbrick or bootloop situation by flashing with rom manager. The app works great, but you still need to know the background information on what your flashing! To many people think since they can pull the file up on RM, it must be compatible, or they flash with the wrong recovery = soft brick! Part of the main reason my guide is written in its fashion...provides proper instructions to flash, makes one read a bit, and repeats its self to pound the info into ones head. Not tryin to preach to ya, just wanted to share some possibly useful info to yourself and others. thx
I was wondering the same about saving to external from rom manager. So our only option it looks like is to boot to recovery and manually go to save it to the external sd?

Make sure your sd card is formatted to Fat32. You'll lose the ability to transfer >4gb files.

Just download "GooManager" from the Play Store. Press your menu button and select "Install Open Recovery Script" and the latest TWRP will install.
In regards to CWM and two sd cards. Sure can, but who really uses two external sd cards for one phone?
