So I want to update the firmware of my Transformer using the official firmware update.
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+TF101&p=20&s=16
However, my touch screen is not functioning anymore so I can't do it the way ASUS wants me to do it. SO I have been scouring forums trying to find a way and either it doesn't work or people assume I understand how to already do this.
I know I can enter RCK mode which said "booting Recovery kernal image" and then I goes to a caution symbol with an green android inside it. So I am assuming I need to use an MicroSD card with the firmware inside of it.
SO! How do I get the Transformer to install the updated firmware using recovery mode and a microSD?
I am sure the answer is out there but it has been a few hours now and I feel like I am going in circles....
Take the zip outside from the ASUS/Update folder inside the archive. Rename it to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip and put it on your sd card.
haha! Disregard
As soon as I posted this I got the correct combination. The file must be named EP101_SDUPDATE.ZIP and have the "blob" and "META-INF" folder in the root of the zip file.

Gapps install
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842590
Everyone,
I have had zip luck with this method of installing zapps. Not a dev, but I've been doing this long enough.....
I moved the Recovery file to to /sdcard. Checked for command and command line inside that file All ok to my eye.
Downloaded the gapps file which my WinRAR pronounces a WinRAR/Zip file. So I tried renamein the original update.zip and didn't get any install. So I extracted using winRAR. Still no install.
I tried the permutations as well. Extracted using G-Tablet extract. Still no results.
There must be something I am missing here -- too much holiday cheer or too many crowds or whatever.
Suggestions?!

I HAD to resort to putting on Clockwork Mod 0.8 to get GApps on my G Tablet.
Putting the update.zip on the internal and sd card storage did not work for me either with the newest update installed.
Clockwork Mod is a super easy install - just follow the instructions on how to install G Apps...basically: put CWM on your SD card in it's root (meaning NOT in any directories) and rename it update.zip, put the corresponding recovery directory on the SD as well. I use Winrar as well, I drag the recovery directory right from the file itself and to the SD Card.
Will look like:
Drive: update.zip
Drive: /recovery/command
basically.
Flash it the normal stock way (power and volume +). I press Power and Volume + without even powering off the device, because if the device is powered down and then you start it and miss that first start up, the device WILL delete the recovery/command file and the update won't flash.
GL
I don't officially get to play with my GTab until after package opening tomorrow so I can't do anything today, but I'm trying to line up my to do list. I have never rooted, flashed, or modded anything but am not afraid to play around as long as I don't brick the tablet.
What do you mean when you say "put the corresponding recovery directory on the SD as well. I use Winrar as well"? What is the corresponding recovery directory? What do you use Winrar for? I Googled "winrar" and found " WinRAR is a shareware file archiver and data compression utility developed by Eugene Roshal, and first released in the fall of 1993.[1] It is one of the few applications that is able to create RAR archives natively, because the encoding method is held to be proprietary. " I cannot figure out why it would be needed to load the standard Android market.
MSU_Sparty,
When you do updates (or installs) that have to be flashed onto the internal sdcard, they usually com in pairs of files. You will have an update.zip file that has the update in it (DUH!) -- and accompanying it will be a "Recovery" directory that has a command file in it (The command file has only one line that "calls" the update.zip file.
WinRAR "Zip" utility enters the picture because most of the devs here use WinRAR to package updates. The when they tell you to decompress it, you use WiinRAR and are left with a .zip file to install.
That's the question I had about this update. The Gapp file show to be a RAR package, but when I un-RAR it I come up with no .zip file -- only regular files.
Hope this helps you understand.

P. S. -- If you are new to this business, take it slow and easy and read ahead on this site and make sure you understand what you are doing. I try to do that, but even with years of IT experience I still mess things up once in a while.
Neoprimal,
Thanks for the tip about CWM. I have two tablets and the other has CWM on it and is fairly modded.
But this tablet I am trying to keep basically stock so I can get updates, etc. and see what the "state of product" is.
As mentioned in my previous answer, I am stumped because I am not getting what looks to be an update.zip file from the Gapp download. When I use WinRAR to decompress the Gapp file, I don't get a .zip file -- only a couple of directories. On the other hand, when I rename the Gapp file update.zip and try to flash it it doesn't work.
Again, thanks for the reply.
Anyone else with suggestions!!!????

Thanks. What you've written really does clarify the previous post. I appreciate it.
But let me ask another naive question. Why don't the developers create their update programs so they can be installed by just downloading them OTA like most applications? That would sure make it easier for neophytes. I'm guessing that the reason is because we aren't really adding an application but replacing the OS.
I greatly appreciate your guidance and that of all of the folks who use this forum.
Happy Holidays!
Hello, I'm very new to this forum so plz forgive me if I post this in the wrong place.
I recently bought a asus tf300 and flash the cmw recovery img. Since I'm unlock the bootloader, I no longer get update from ASUS website. My question is how am I manually update the blob file that I download from ASUS support website.
I have look alot threads about this issue, and I find out there are mainly three methods that can update the blob.
1. Using Asus Manual upload:
According to Asus website, they said just put the zip file in the micro sd card and the system will pop up an notification that will help u upload.
2. Using CMW to upload:
upload the blob with CMW recovery. There are some thread that tells me it will brick the device. But some people said it is ok to use CMW to upload the blob, therefore I'm a little bit confused about this method.
3. Wolf's way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622628
The following is my questions:
1. what is the difference between these three method?
2. if the CMW is okay can someone tells me the right way to upload the blob. Such as using the original build.prop something like that?
3. is it ok to use the wolf's way to update the blob?
Sorry for so many questions and my poor English.
I'd use the ADB / Terminal emulator method (Wolf's way mostly)
Place on transformer, then flash the 'blob' file through the staging partition.
You'll need to reinstall CWM and reroot everytime you do this, unless you manually extract the SOS partition out of the blob file ASUS gives you with blobtools then repack it.
Hey Guys,
I had a good day receiving my pad today, but very upset to recieve it with a CN rom from China. It doesnt even have the play store or the google framework.
So i tried a few things to install some apps via .apk and i was not able to find ICS stuff and it was all outdated.
So i then i said i would try and change to the ROM that is available from Asus, i downloaded the global version.
The hard part was trying to root and unlock so i can flash. I tried to use the ViperMod prime and everything was fine until i got to the end and unlock it said "Device not supported" so that didnt work.
Anyone have any suggestions on which path i should take, eventually i just want a good rom to use and be able to access all my apps on the Play store and be able to use my google accounts.
Lots of thanks in advance for the help, truly appreciated.
You don't need to root the device in order to flash the FW, simply download the FW update of your desired "region" and extract the Zip, in it you will find another zip file just copy it into the root directory of your microSD and rename the file as "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip"
Finally power off the device then when you power it on press and hold "volume down" and "power button" release the power button when it vibrates keep holding "volume down" button until you can see few lines of text printed on top left hand corner of the screen. Now let go of the volume down button and press "volume up".
Wait for it to completely flash the device with your desired FW update, don't forget to backup your data and fully recharge your battery before attempting to do so.
Thanks for the reply, but it does not work. I have tried a few times and it ends up with the same firmwre, any other advice?
Also when i unzip the file off the Asus website there is no other .zip file, so i tried the actual downloaded file.
Can anyone help.....Im really struggling and this CN rom is a disaster....
You have unpacked the file, renamed it properly, put it on the root of the microSD, booted to recovery, proceeded to install the new firmware and yet you still have the same Chinese ROM? No way. Tell us how far you've come and what you did.
Is it just the language option you are looking for? What's the firmware version?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T
Step by Step:
i downloaded the file from the asus website:
i got the WW version (ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T Firmware: V9.4.5.22 Only for WW SKU (Android 4.0.3)), when i unziped it there was noother .zip file to put on my micro SD card.
So i tried with the original zip file and that didnt work. So what do i do? am i downloading the wrong file? because i cant find any zip file after i extract.
FYI i am using mac to unzip the file but i dont think that would make any difference
Thanks for your patience and help.
i also want to answer your questions, the rom version that is on is build number:
IML74K.CN_epad-9.45.22-20120615
the reason why i need to flash to the global version is because in the CN version it does not com with the Play Store, or any google frameworks, its all built with the Chinese app store. So the language is not biggest issue its just everything else.
So the downloaded WW file contains another zip file. THAT zip file needs to be placed on the microSD and renamed to: EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip (remember to use caps and make sure the extension is still .zip)
Then switch off the Infinity. Put the microSD in the Infinity. Press the VOL- button and then power up (while still pressing the VOL-). You'll boot into recovery. Either you have to press VOL+ or it will automatically start updating the tab.
Thanks for the reply, the problem is, is that when i download the file off asus, and unzip the 300+ mb file it gives me the same file name but is noe 800+ mb, but it is not zipped. So do i have the right file?
I am following the instructions, i just dont know if i am using the right file
So i finally realize the problem, with my mac when i was unzipping i was not getting any kind of .zip file. So i tried in PC and it worked, amazing how something so small can make a person go insane!!!
but thanks to all of you, couldnt have done it without your help!!

Nice... glad to hear all is good now.
Ace, glad you found the issue good thing it's solved now. You managed to root as well now?
I bought a TF101 used and found that it had been rooted. I used this guide to unroot it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093403
It now has build number HRI66.US_epad-8.2.3.9-20110423
I cannot figure out how to update the firmware to the newest version. The system update says there is no update. I downloaded 9.2.1.27 from Asus's website and followed the instructions to manually update, ie. put zip file on MicroSD and put it into the tablet. When I put the card it, it sees the card, but doesn't do anything. If I try to open the file manually, it says "file open failed."
I just want it to run with stock software and be up to date. I have no clue what to do from here. Any help would be appreciated.

the way ASUS packages their ROMS is a zip within a zip. You need to unzip once put the nested zip file onto SD card, the TF101 should pickup on the ROM

Sorry, I should have specified that I did that. Still, nothing happens when I insert the card.
I'm not sure if they this may slove the problem, try the next chronology update. Either that or the file didn't download properly.
Worst case scenario, use easy flasher to flash the latest official firmware.

when I took mine back to stock a ways back i had to keep mine rooted and flash mine just like i was flashing a custom rom.
so u may have to root again and instal a custom recovery to flash the stock rom on.
flashing the stock rom will unroot and put it back to complete stock.
With much embarrassment I have to admit I really thought I was smarter than a tablet and a few simple clicks. Apparently not. So now I am here with issues that I am sure someone can answer because your more advanced than a few clicks and a tablet.
I have briefly looked for a resolve to my issue but it is very overwhelming. So if you can just point me in the right direction and hold my hand at the same time I would be very appreciative :good:
Issues:
I originally downloaded Odin, GT-P5113 4.0.4, CM 12.1, CW Unofficial Touch 6.0.3.3 p5100 zip. I launced Odin and followed the steps from a you-tube video. Well upon my surprise CW was not on the tablet so I was at the Tabs generic recovery screen. I choose the option to delete all user data ( lots of no's to select from and one Yes). Well continuing to be a fool I completed this process. When the tablet rebooted I was stuck at the Samsung logo screen. I decided to get to the download screen and install smt810_cf_autoroot.tar. After loading this tar via Odin I became stuck on the Android man downloading screen. Waited a bit and nothing. Then my tablet shut down and came up with "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue" with the tablet-yellow ! icon and pc icon.
Another issue is when i download these files Odin will not find them in my file. Why? I usually keep them unzipped as a .rar in order for odin to show them so I can select PDA and attempt to install them.
Is there a way to still upgrade the Android system and fix this Firmware error at the same time?
Basically I am so new to this I need specific directions on resolving my issue. So if anyone has a moment please help me out here. I appreciate your time and knowledge
And I can use Odin to install to the tablet. If that helps Just not in the download screen on the tablet.

first you should download the stock firmware of your device, if it's p5113 then search and download the same firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309 check this thread if it's there, if it's not please google it, if already have it, ignore..
Once you have it, you should get the firmware md5 file (by unzipping the rar.) Odin will take tar file or md5 file. put it in Odin AP/PDA check the thread for all the details on how to flash correctly.
you have to get into download mode by pressing the power and volume up/right to do that once the firmware is successfully flashed and your tab starts running again. first get this part done.
Always use files that are meant only for your device. if your tab say p5113. then make sure the file you are flashing states it is meant for p5113 and not p5100. (maybe not in the rooting case cause it's same
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309 here for all)
At some places you will find files marked as p51xx. those files are generally safe too and are meant for the p51xx tab series but that is later stage.
I appreciate the feedback and have found I had tried to flash my tablet with GT-P5110 software when i actually have a GT-P5113TS. I have found the firmware but my issue is when I download anything and extract it with using rar. I never get a .tar file or anything Odin can not recognize to select PDA and use.. What would cause that? How do I fix this?
Thank You

Try winrar or 7zip, it should extract, you need md5 or tar format in pda section. If not what error are you getting? There must be some file when you open the archive?
Basically when I download the zip file I want and then extract it to a specific folder. All I after unzipping is File folders with other file folders inside,Img, File, PROP, and SH. I never extract anything that is a Tar file or anything Odin can recognize when on PDA within Odin. Plus a lot of times I click on a link for a download off this site and it sends me to some watch-movies website. Not a actual download. Or I am just missing it.

Maybe it's a bad link to your stock file then. Perhaps someone can give proper file link to the stock firmware. Inside the zip it's basically a md5 file for firmware to flash. Sadly I don't have a proper yoi will have to find of the net.
