I was wondering if anyone had a good comparison between the two phones.? I currently have the atrix and I have been seriously thinking about switching to the infuse but I don't know if it will last as long. I am currently getting about a day out of the atrix and I can't afford to go to a phone that will last any less.
The infuse battery lasts just as long. I had an atrix and was impressed and am equally impressed with the infuse.
I go at the very minimum at least a day, and on most days well over a day. Under normal circumstances I charge every other night.

Have you done anything to increase your battery life? I come from ios and I am a firm believer in not having to constantly turn things on and off. I will not shut off my data or modify sync schedules and my corporate email must be on push all the time. I also don't use a task killer. I was just wondering because you said at minimum a day and that is my maximum.

I had the Atrix for about 20 days. I loved the battery on it!! That phone would last me a whole day! I left gps and sync always on and I had brightness on max with screen timeout at 2 minutes. I had issues with it and definitely didn't like the cameras so I returned it.
The Infuse I've had 3 or 4 days now and the battery has gotten better with time. I have the gps and sync always on and brightness at a bit more than half. Doesn't seem to last me as long as the Atrix did, but it's much better than the Captivate! I'm having data issues with it though just like I did with the Atrix
I had the atrix for 30 days and so far the infuse lasts just as long on the battery. Atleast for my usage.

I'm sorry if this is a silly question but how does push save battery?
I was under the impression that push required the phone to be constantly checking for new emails or to have a connection active at all times. Both of the scenarios would lead me to think that it uses more battery than setting a fetch schedule.
For refernce here is what an average day for me is:
3h 25m since unplugged
voice calls 77% 1h 33m
display 9% 39m 13s
phone idle 4% 2h 46m
android system 4%
CPU total 5m 29scell standy 2% 3h 25m
touchdown 2%
CPU total 2m 38sandroid OS 2%
CPU total 1m 52s
With all of this I am at 50 and it has only been 3.5 hours of a 10 hour work day not to mention time during break and when I get off.
This guy here says that he was still at 62% battery left AFTER FOUR DAYS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXyRG0S3o3o
forward to the 1:45 mark to hear him say it...
Maybe the Samsung sends out test models with better batteries to the websites doing reviews so that potential customers think it has better battery life than it really is and purchase it???

Pull is when the phone checks the server every X minutes for new messages, whether they're there or not.
Push is when the server sends the new message to your phone when it gets it.
Depending on how many messages you get, Push can save some battery.

Hello I am new to this forum, I just got the Samsung galaxy s 4g this Wednesday and I was wondering if anyone else was having battery issues. Right now I have my phone set to minimum brightness, auto sync off, black bckground and juice defender on. So I don't understand why am I getting only about 3 hours of battery life when all I'm doing most of the time is surfing the web(this forum) and facebook. I even get better battery life from my dads vibrant which is completely stock, has auto sync on, no juice defender, and screen brightness set to 50%. From reading the stats of both phones, the vibrant 4g is supposed to have a slightly better battery. I also don't understand why if the screen is at the minimum it still takes up 94% of the battery whereas on my dads vibrant 50% screen brightness takes up 30%. Is there anything I can do? Will wiping the battery stats help? If so how do I do that from a stock unrooted vibrant?

Check your notifications settings. I know that Samsung's contacts integration with social networks takes a big toll on the battery, hence why I've disabled it. Also, disable T-Mobile's Contact Backup Sync, just use Google's contacts integration.
Thanks for helping, but yeah I have those disabled already.

Does the trick to fully discharge and recharge 3 times work with these batteries? According the the Li-on technology this is not supposed to be necessary but I've heard stories in the forums of folks getting great battery life on other phones after doing this. Many people also say their batteries work a lot better after a week of use (supposedly after "training" them as well.)
I believe the G2 is clocked down for this reason. You could try CPU-set app, clocking down to 500-800mhz when not gaming.
Anyone tried these tricks?

My iPhone 3Gs lasted me all day of heavy use and with the SGS4G I have to charge the damn thing at least once a day with light usage and if I have to be on the phone a lot then its twice a day.. Not acceptable at all...
Thats with wifi and gps disabled..
On the 3Gs I had wifi, bluetooth and the gps running all the damn time...

I'm not having any issues with battery life or heating. I use wifi teather most of the day and I'm getting to use it all day without issue. I did cycle my battery 4 times already just in case it matters. FYI
The batteries that our phone uses DOES NOT require u to cycle the battery. In fact, doing so will harm your battery. To avoid damage to your battery always charge ur phone when u r at <15% battery level. Trust me I thought the same until I did the research. I will post more info when I get on my PC later.

I just bought a Galaxy S 4G on wednesday. First android device coming from iphone 3G. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to preserve the battery life.
I took it off the charger at 6:30am and the battery was at about 2% at 8:30pm.
I haven't rooted the phone yet to remove some of the bloatware that comes pre-installed.
I've got email accounts synching, brightness set at about 10% w/ a static wallpaper. Played about an hour of angrybirds throughout the day and didn't really do any web browsing with a few phones calls. I mean 14 hours is decent but from what I've read there are plenty of people getting a full day of use and still have 50% battery left.
I guess once the battery fully charges I'll put inception on, turn off syncing and try a few other things.
So I guess I said all that to say this, my battery life isn't great but it's not downright horrible either. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
And yes I'll continue browsing all the forums to see what else I can find.
Edit:
Played through half of Inception in airplane mode, brightness at minimum. I dropped from 93% to 80% in an hour and a half. Not too shabby.
Also created a shortcut to toggle between 4G modes and Edge. I know 4G is going to be a pretty big drain so I'll see how much that helps.
I'll keep tweaking it.
this is completely true and if you read the manual on page 13- h t t p:// downloadcenter . samsung . com/content/UM/201102/20110224044646930/T959_Galaxy_S_4G_English_User_Manual.pdf it says that
"• Do not wait until your battery is completely depleted before charging
your device. Repeating this process of a complete discharge and
recharge can over time reduce the storage capacity of any battery."
right now my phone is at 23% battery level with up time of 46:46:40 hrs/mins/secs. with skype calling (around 10 minutes), text messaging, browsing the net (for around 5 minutes about 6 times a day), and talking on the phone (around 15 minutes)
the settings i did:
1. took a picture with my finger blocking the camera to get pitch black picture and set that as my background and deleted all the shortcut icons (i short, i only have a blank screen with the only 4 icons down below)
2. changed the brightness settings to 2 clicks to the right from 0% brightness (or you can lower your brightness all the way down during the night, and 2 clicks away during the day, this will save you more)
3. disabled haptic feedbacks and audible touchtones, selections, and screen lock sounds
4. disabled animations
5. disabled background data and syncing when not in use
6. disabled packet data (3g), wifi, and gps when not in use
the last two are the biggest settings that made my battery last longer.
7. i only charge my phone when it gets to 20% and the manual recommends not to use the phone while charging
i hope this helps.
and yes it is recommended to charge your battery to 100% before you turn on your phone for the first time and this is also stated on the manual.
one more thing, don't forget to set your browser's brightness setting as well

What widgets do you use?
What apps remain open in the background?
How much screen time was there?
Are you in a low-signal area?
Do you leave BT/Wifi/GPS on?
I usually have 40-70% at the end of my workday (5pm) with pretty decent usage - I unplug at 11pm.

For what it's worth----my wife and I each have a captivate and I have two spare "after market" batteries. I've never checked my wife's battery usage since she rarely does anything with it besides taking/receiving maybe 6-10 calls a day. She charges it every night and it's never run completely down so I haven't changed the battery. In my case, the battery that came with the unit is usually down to 20-30% after eight hours. One of the after-market batteries won't make it for more than 6 hours. The second after-market battery usually has 50-60% remaining at the end of the day. I usually replace the batteries every night and charge the replaced battery with a wall charger over night. I know there are lots of variables involved, but there is no doubt in my mind that there is tremendous variation between these three batteries. I'm running on andromeda 1.2 and on weekends I disable most everything except the phone and, on the best battery, the captivate will idle along for at least 48 hours. I also suspect there may be as much, or more, variability between ROMs.
Where can I get those batteries? Ya I just got the phone 2 days ago over iphone 4

Get Juice Defender. It has extended my battery life from 5-7 hours to 24+ hours. It disables your radios while the phone is off, but turns them back on ever 15 or 30 minutes to get data pushed to all of your active services.
Can we go with the obvious and have you calibrate your battery first?
So I'm wondering how you guys are holding up with the battery. Can you last all day?
If not, do you have a spare battery or anything? Thanks.

This post gives me hope. I am so sick of my iPhone 4, but have been scared the battery will suck on the Inspire. Anyone have/had an i4 and can compare with their Inspire?
IPhone 4 will definitely get better battery life than any android phone. But not too bad and totally worth it.
I pulled my phone off the charger at 8am, it's now just after 10pm and I have 46% remaining. I was browsing on wifi and playing words with friends for about two hours this afternoon, made a few calls, sent a few messages and regularly checked emails.
Battery life on my Inspire hasn't been as good as the Streak, but definitely better than my Captivate. I'm using SetCPU 1024 max/245 min ondemand for my main profile and 245 max 245 min ondemand for screen off.
The key indicator for me is screen-on time. Taking the phone of the charger at ~8am, by about 10pm, with gps off all day, and WiFi on only as needed (~1hr total), I'm at around ~15-20% battery remaining, with the total screen-on time being ~4.5 hrs for that day.
Most of that screen time is playing angry birds, so I'm sure that factors in somehow, as the screen doesn't seem to drain as much battery doing other stuff, as it does playing a processor-intensive activity like a game.

I had the same problem as you did. What made a significant change for me was changing amount of apps to keep running at 4 instead of default. Also I found the xda app runs in the background, continues to drain the battery. I have to manually kill the xda app every time I exit it. For today I'm at 12 hour running, and screen on 1.5hrs and 59 percent battery life.

Ditto on the xda app, it was burning up cpu cycles while in the background, enough to make my phone warm. So I just close it every time I'm done using it.

I have gps, wifi, data, and sync on still netting 27-30hrs battery life. The key is rooting and debloating....

Woh how are you getting your current draw? The apps that I've tried won't support the s3.

I have the Verizon model of the S3 as well. I have had it for over a week now because I was an early pre-order so I got it really early. For the first few days I was getting really bad battery life. I would maybe only get 8 - 9 hours with moderate usage, that being about 2 hours of screen time. I would play no games, and just browse the web and text. I am a big texter though, but on my DINC as long as I had mobile data switched off I could get plenty of life out of my phone. With this phone for some reason after about 70 percent, mine will start to drain much faster regardless of what I am using it for, even if the screen is is off. Just to test it I left all the radios on while the phone was at 100 percent over night, and the next morning it was at 96. The next day I tried the same test when my phone was at 50 percent battery, and when I woke up it was at 10 . I don't really understand what is going on here either. I keep seeing all of the reviews for the device even the Verizon version to point towards great battery life, but I am just not seeing it. Maybe rooting and a re-flashing the stock rom plus removing bloatware will help. I also got another battery just to see if that was the problem, but it doesn't seem to be. I'm hoping this is just a software issue, because I don't know why some can get such great battery and some can't. I would also hate to have to get a replacement phone.
im getting around 10 hours with Heavy use ... 6 hours of pandora, youtube, email, facebook, twitter, web
On day 6 with the phone
Am I the only one who doesn't get 4 hours of screen time from a charge? I've seen many posts about it, and I average about 2. This is on aosp/touchwiz and many different kernel combos.

I don't typically get 4. I get about 3 or less. And I don't overclock like most do. It all depends on what you use your phone for , how good your service is, phone calls/ texting you do. I listen to music every day which hurts my amount of screen time, and I don't get very good service most of the day, which also hurts it. I have noticed that installing JuiceDefender dramatically helps so my battery drains much slower when I'm not on it by turning off wifi/4g after a few seconds, and back on at intervals to sync. CPU Sleeper is also a noticeable gain after you install it. It shuts off the extra core or something when you don't need it.
On a regular basis, I've only gotten around 2-3 hours of screen time from a full charge.
I've used stock, CleanROM, and SynergyROM
All the same.

There are SO many variables that can contribute to lower battery life. Screen brightness, constant device wakes, account sync, application efficiency, etc. I normally get 3 hours of screen time because I keep my sceeen at half brightness and I wake my device up a lot throughout the day. I'm willing to bet I would get 4 hours if I reduced the amount of device wakes. But who knows.

Yeah I understand wake locks and such I just thought I was getting abnormal battery life. Maybe not. I only lost 10% after sleeping in for 12 hours. Medical classes haha. But my screen time seemed low. Oh well, I carry a charger everywhere

im in the middle of demonstrating this and making a post about it. Battery life is dependent on user and the phone. Nobody will get the same battery life.
im on the stock size battery and im at around 1 day 4 hrs of battery .... 3+ hrs of screen time...and i still have 39% left.

Like I said I realize that it varies by user, was mainly trying to determine if I had a bad battery. I had seen many people post about 3-4 hours but hardly any about 2 hours
