Hi I am new and cannot post in dev section.
Best solution is to use a "virtual router". Phone connect so nicely as if its an access point.
You can use free software or bash simple command in CMD. See this for more info:
http://www.itgeekdiary.com/windows-7-as-an-wi-fi-access-point/comment-page-1/
Please note you must have compatable wifi card in laptop/pc.
Please post this tip for me in the section. Cheers mate

connectify is much easier to use,
used to create virtual access point to share internet from laptop....

I did the exact same thing. In retrospect, I can't believe I was retarded enough not to make a backup of the original file first.

Ad-hoc workaround needed
I have tried everything to get AD-HOC wifi on my phone.
wpa_supplicant 0.6xx / terminal commands / softwares like Connectify etc
Android apps are able to see the AP , but can't connect.
Eagerly waiting for Android to natively support AD-HOC connections , If there is any workaround , pls share it.

I tried the Android Reverse Tethering 2.29 and it worked.. i turned off the Network Connection, and was using internet and a few apps with PC internet.. but i had a small problem... i couldn't download game data files and also i couldn't update apps from the play store.. is there any way this is possible.???
Yes !!!
Yes. Its Possible. For doing it u need,
1. Connectify, a software to be installed in ur PC
2. Your Phone should be rooted.
3. Download and install an android app called WifiAdHoc Enabler
After rooting ur phone, install the WifiAdhoc Enabler. It will take a backup of wpa_supplicant file and then modify it so that the android mobile can detect Adhoc wifi.
Then enable internet in your PC. Switch on Bluetooth. Open the Connectify Software and click start sharing. In your phone, enable your wifi. Your phone will detect a Wifi named Connectify. Connect and Enjoy..
P.S: This method is working and thats how im using my Laptop's internet in my SGR
Thanks for the solution, but my PC doesn't have Bluetooth our wifi.. I tried connectify.. But it's doesn't start sharing..
Use AllShare to Obtain IP Address
Download connectify and start hotspot in your laptop.
Try using the Wifi in your mobile to connect. If you are continously getting Obtaining IP address message, use AllShare application to connect to the Laptop Wifi hotspot. AllShare will get the IP address. Then you can use ur laptop internet connection in Mobile without Wires.

Here is the solution:
Just turn on your GPRS or EDGE or 3G connectivity(Whichever you use) right before reverse tethering. This way you can download apps from the play store....dont worry you wont be charged for the mobile data connection:laugh:

Yes Buddy. But as quoted in that post, its not detecting ad-hoc wifi. As per the post, we can create Encrypted Wi-Fi access point (WPA2) which can be detected by ICS. But its not ad-hoc. When u use Connectify, there will be another option called Ad-hoc wifi which is yet to be made detectable by ICS.
Even the WPA2 connection works only with Windows 7 and not in Windows Vista. If you have Windows 7 in ur machine, you can try the method as suggested in the post. It shud work
Anyone can port/alter the same.. ???
I'm using Connectify for sharing internet, it's working perfectly at home and at office too.
Edit : silly me got it now regarding WEP. Sorry.

BB ROM, I have used it on all ROMs, (MAZEL, MIUI, ANGEEKS, STOCK GB AND ICS)
Using latest Connectify V3.6, and i have used all versions too 3.2,3.4
WPA2 connection,
actually connectify is not compatible with all Windows-7, it works perfectly on Service pack 1 only, and if you have luck then only it will work on others, I have 2 laptops it works smoothly on DELL, but gives deadly blue screen on other laptop, in my office I am using it on Desktop fortunately it's working here too.

Bro, you start connection in WPA2 mode ???
but i dont have that option in my laptop...in mine only two are available.
1. Ad-HOC Open
2. Ad-HOC, Secured
There is no WPA2 mode, thats why i need a modded WPA SUPPLICANT file which will further enable AD HOC connection to be detected in my SGR.
For GB ROM i had a working WPA SUPPLICANT file, but now in ICS no one managed it to port it or make it work
