[Q] Total Backup - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am about to return my transfomer for a new one because of a few issues I'm having (Mostly light bleed) and want to just be able to back it up completly and then just completly load it back up. I know titanium back up can be used but using it before it does not bring it back to the exact state. I want to just back this one up, get the new one, load it back and have it be exactly the same way. Everything already set up, widgets, icons, homescreens everything the same way. Is there any way to do this, or am I gonna have to do some stuff manualy?

The only way would be if your rooted, make a backup and restore it on your replacement

Using what? Is it actully a full back up?
Worth rooting it just for that?
If I root the pad do the back up and then just do a full restore in the settings would that unroot the pad?

And is there any way to do this without root? I wanna return it tonight so can someone please help me out.

No way to do without root...but with root you can just backup in cwm. This will be a full system backup. Then you get new one, root and restore.

I thought that rooting would wipe your system. Is this wrong? Just trying to learn for myself.

this is a known issue. nothing to worry about. you just have to let your battery drain and it will be fine once you power it on after that.
ill give it a shot even since I flash prime 1.6 the touch screen is a bit veterans thanks

Requesting stock ROM + apps

I deleted a bunch of stuff with TB thinking when I factory reset I would get it all back! The first thing I've noticed so far is that when I go to Settings > Accounts & sync, Settings FCs with the message "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped". I don't think I messed anything else up...
Therefore I'm requesting the stock ROM, to flash and start fresh. Also, I've found some dumps with the stock apks, but if anyone knows which ones will get my 'Accounts & sync' working again, that would be very helpful!
I am also wondering if anyone has stock from. I forgot to backup my stock from..

I exchanged the tf300t today for a brand new one. I'm willing to provide a stock ROM, or at least dump the system, if someone can teach me how.
You can download the OTAs from Asus' website, just extract once and flash in CWM.

Well I am guessing its just a normal backup from cwm?.. Anyone want to chime in.
Is there a link to the specific location on Asus website.

TF300 getting JB today

Hopefully we are not far behind.
Whoa, crossing fingers for us with a working version that doesn't break more things lol

I applaud your unbridled optimism Sir.
ASUS hinted at this yesterday on FB. Their post "When Mr. Jellybean is in the office, it means something good is coming."

I've learned from the TF101 ICS update - be careful what you wish for!!! For those that don't know, my (and others) TF101 has basically become very un-reliable since they introduced ICS.
While I truly *hope* we don't have such issues with the Jelly Bean upgrade, I certainly don't have a lot of confidence in Asus at this point.
I just hope that they don't rush it and test it properly before releasing it and forcing the upgrade on us (which is exactly what they did with the ICS update on the TF101).
I do know that my TF700 has some of the same ICS issues that the TF101 had (OpenGL out of memory errors, for example, which causes your launcher to go "blank")....

It looks like they are using 3.x.x kernel on JB, someone can confirm this?

Great! Very exciting news to wake up to!
When Firmware actually starts dropping DON'T FORGET TO!!
*Side load your FLASH PLAYER. If you want flash. It will no longer show up in the Playstore any longer
*Revert back whatever modding/altering to system files just in case Rooters. Only if you want your OTAS to actually complete. Or if running a custom rom it wouldn't work anyways as you already know.
*Don't forget to backup your Root with Voodoo Ota Rootkeeper! You will definitely lose root if you don't
Time to obsessively check every 5 minutes for the update!!!

*sighs* I want all my devices to run Jellybean today, here is to hoping it will happen.
As I'd normally recommend rooting myself, I don't think it's necessary in this case. Why not just install .apk with Flash after allowing unknown sources? I believe it should suffice, although I don't know if it's any different with the JB system of permissions.
No need to root to install Flash on Jelly Bean. At least not on the Nexus 7.

I can confirm - my father just bought a Nexus 7 - I emailed the Flash app to him and he was able to install it and it worked without any rooting or anything.
He used Boat Browser (per my recommendation) - not sure about other browsers, but I assume it work with all expect for Chrome, of course...

To everyone who wants flash, the easy way is to place the apk somewhere on Dropbox/Google Drive/Physical medium and install it from there, also since this week Adobe Flash Player is not available in the Play Store. http://www.pcworld.com/article/260901/android_flash_player_rip_how_to_get_it_now_that_its_gone.html

Everyone remember to backup the files created by titanium backup themselves to a removable SD card or your PC.
As for JB, I am not sure we can expect it for the TF700 right away ... the TF300 is so similar to the nexus 7, I'm sure they only slightly modified their nexus 7 kernel.
Is it just me or does anyone else thinks it's wrong that Asus updated their cheap tablet before their flagship?

No, the tf300 probably just happened to be ready first. It would silly to make all of the tf300 wait a few days just because the tf700 wants it first lol

Is it possible to fallback from Jelly Bean?

If it doesn't work out, can I fall back to ICS?
TIA

I tried reloading the .30 firmware by putting the zip in root of internal storage. It updated as a downgrade but I was still on job when it was done, so not sure if you can with a locked boot loader.

Do you think it is worth jumping in now? I don't have specific expectation on JB except it is the latest from google.

Just depends on your taste. You might review other upgrade post stories first to be sure. Some are flawless, some not.

THelook and feel of JB is for the most part similiar to ICS.
Their are some differences you will notice:
Animations: Some new and smooth animations that are nice. Animationa arre a minor thing but add a nice touch.
Project butter: My tablet does seem to run smoother and I have yet to have a wait/close prompt pop up. Of course I may get some, but so far it seem to have improved in that dept.
Google Now & search: This is what I wanted most. I really like the voice search, it really fast with returning answers. I wish I did a few more thens like open apps and tell me my next apointment when asked, bt I'm sure that will come with future updates. Google Now is prety neat and I'm interesting in seeing how it starts to work once I have had it a while and it can develop some patterns and give me info based off what it believes is relavent for me.
This is just an initial impression is I just updated last night and haven't really got much day to day expierance with JB, but so far so good. So far I don't really see the down side. You gain a few things and don't really lose much. Unless you have a particular app that dosen't play well wih JB yet.
Can't wait to get jellybean but I'll wait patiently for it

You could learn in these forums to root, unlock and flash ROMs; giving you an open ticket to run whatever you want on ur tablet.

I want to downgrade ,too. But it is unable to downgrade with known methods.
PS. My device is unlocked.
If your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash whatever ROM you want from the custom recovery you installed.

You can flash anything, doesn't mean you'll be successful. The current recoveries can't support this due to different boot and kernel mods. The guys are currently trying get a fix for those on OTA JB and all. I would say sit tight and wait for conformation that Twrp or cmw can backup and restore boot from diff firmwares. I tried this and got stuck at Asus logo and couldn't boot into os. But was able to get official JB back up. So now I'm stuck on JB for now.

ICS backup after JB update

Is an ICS backup garbage if you have updated the tablet to JB?

I'm going to guess yes, because if you try to use ICS ROM with jb bootloader / recovery... well they just don't get along

They might eventually make the partitions work, and you could potentially recover data from your backups if you needed to, but basically yes. I'm saving mine 'just in case', but honestly I already think they're wasting space

I made a super locked down master image but we loaned a few tablets to our IT guys and they got updated. So my plan now is to just update a tablet and grab the update as the new master so any tablets that come in we update and lock down again
