[Q] Installing Kernel - HTC Inspire 4G

im going to flash LeeDroid's latest kernel.
im not so sure how to do it, im scared of bricking my phone.

It's real easy if you already have root. Have you installed a custom Rom yet?
If you have then installing a kernel is just as easy, just place the zip file in the root of the SD card and install.

Wipe dalvik cache

Flashing themes

Hello
Can anyone tell how to flash custom themes
Sent from a rooted nexus s using XDA app
It's actually very simple you flash like you would a rom through clockwork. Just make sure you get the correct theme for your specific rom, place the zip flie in the root of your SD card, enter recovery, choose install zip, find your zip, flash then reboot. After that enjoy.
Moved to Q&A
Can thus be done using the install from SD card option in Tom manager or do I need to just reboot into clockwork

I always reboot into clockwork first. It eliminates the possibility of error on Rom Managers part.
Once again moved to Q&A as it is a question with no theme development

roms

which one u recommend:
Android Revolution HD or Ledroid?
Virtuous. It has an advanced pull down menu and Wi-Fi calling. But if it I must choose between those two I'd say LeeDroid. Used it for a bit before switching to Virtuous because I really needed those extra options in the pull down.
Virtuous is avaiable for HTC sensation?
+1 for virtuous. I'm running v1.0.1 and its very fast and stable. Can oc up to 1.8 ghz but its really unnecessary because this rom us perfectly smooth.

anyone else? can compare what have and dont have...
one more question, when u do FUll WIPE it will erase everything. now if we want to restore new rom we must turn on the phone and than put the .zip to the sd card than bot again and restore so my question is is there any method to do full wipe without removing .zip rom!?

Your SD Card doesn't need to be partitioned for a Sensation. But a wipe doesn't format your partition unless you specifically select it.

Ran into a problem installing JB rom EOS

Hello guys
I am new to the rooting scene and I ran into a little problem. I followed an instruction online to root my tablet (TF101) and got Rom Manager to work. I also flashed ClockworkMod by using the rom manager. I am trying to flash my rom into the Jelly Bean from EOS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782410. I did a full back up of my stock rom and ready to install the new rom. I put the downloaded file (from the link I put) into the root folder of the main SD. But when I try to install the rom from rom management, my tablet just reboots and nothing is installed. I really have no idea where to go from here. Please help !
I got it to install but now I am stuck at the boot screen! What now?

You have soft bricked the tablet...
Can you access CWM ?
then download the latest build of team eos (build 63)... create a folder in your external MMC and save it in there
Go to recovery/cwm and format factory settings/data, wipe cache wipe dalvik cache
Now install the ROM by navigating to the folder where you have saved the zip file and selecting it...

I had that issue a while ago...cwm recovery doesn't play that nicely with the tf101...I had to get team rogues specially altered cwm and hey presto, back in the game!

U just soft bricked your tablet... as long as you can access your recovery you should be OK... format your external mmc and then copy the latest version of eos and place it back into tablet... now wipe everything and flash it again you should be OK.. doesn't work then wipe and use AOSP JB... you will get it to work don't worry...

When you say mmc, are you talking about the micro SD card? I have been installing from the internal SD. Do you think that could have caused the problem? Also when you say format, do u mean delete everything and place the JB zip file directly into the micro SD?
Problem fixed. I just followed this guide and got a new CWM and that seems to work great
Here is the guide for anyone with the same problem.

He means: Copy it to the SD card (not in any subdirectory/subfolder). Name it update.zip. I assume then you would "apply update" from CWM although I have not done it that way before.
If you're talking about the ROM from this thread did you catch that the developer specifies "4EXT Touch Recovery by madmaxx82" under the list of requirements? I can't think of how that might make a difference but he does specify it.
I suspect either it is either:
1. not where you think it is; or
2. it didn't copy correctly (if so, likely unmounted while still writing that 300MB+ file); or
3. you're in the wrong menu in CWM.
You are trying from "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard", yes?

If its a rom why dont you just flash it like a rom. Full wipe and flash in recovery. Sounds like rom is in the right place. Just dont rename it and flash it like any other rom. You are also posting in the wrong section this belongs in Q & A so please keep all question there or in involved rom thread. Thank you

1. Place rom on sd card
2. Power button to power off but pick recovery option
3. Factory wipe
4. Cache wipe
5. Dalvik wipe
6. Format all partitions (except sd card)
7. Install from sd card
8. Choose zip from sd card
9. Flash
10. Reboot
Here s a thread if you want to do a Complete Wipe (Must follow to the letter)

Everyone uses 4ext touch recovery to flash roms now. We no longer use boot manager.
I gotta say it. Don't post in the dev section unless you're contributing something.
Also, the minimum for a full wipe means hit factory data reset. Nothing else is necessary, though you can wipe it if you want.

Multiple Root directories

After installing a few custom roms and wiping data i seem to have multiple roots
Looking at the phone- on my desktop I notice the following-
My computer/ SCH-I535/Phone/0/0/0/0/0
Each "0" has a complete set of files like the previous folder
Is this normal or do I have to reformat the phone somehow
Thanks for any advice
Delete any duplicate files/folders. You must keep 1 of the 0 folders though. The reason this happened is because you're recovery is out of date. Update your recovery to the latest version and you'll be fine from here on out. 4.2 adds multiple users which partions your storage to allow for this, the multiple 0 folders happen because you're old recovery is not aware of this partioning, so it just adds another folder for each 4.2 rom flashed.

Thanks. Where can I find the update and do I run it the same way is run a rom zip ?
Assuming your running one of the big 2 recoveries...for twrp: download goo manager from the playstore and in the options choose install open script recovery. For cwm: download rom manager from the playstore and install custom recovery. Done!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk HD
I have clockwork 6 0 1 2
Use rom manager and update it. I use twrp so I'm not sure what version cwm is running now, but I know it's higher than what you have. The app will download the current version (regular or touch) and flash it for you. Doesn't get any easier.
Just got the rom mgr and ran the file. Yes it was easy. Thanks
One last question- the next I install a new Rom , what's the best way to clean up the system

Format.... all. That's what I did. Just remove your sd card and make sure EVERYTHING is backed up. You will lose EVERYTHING!

Here's what I learned after updating the CW recovery.
There's no format all and I was a bit hesitant to format all the choices. I read somewhere that you could lose the root files. I didn't want to go through that again.
On the first go round I formatted the " system", then I installed the rom. After install the extra "0" folders were still there. On the next try I formatted the internal SD card, that was it. All the extra "0" folders were gone
Thanks guys for the help!!
