[POLL] Have you gotten the GB radio bootloop? - Thunderbolt General

Let's see what kind of percentage it is (ie. 1 out of every 10 has it).
Last poll promise.
EDIT: Please only vote if you have been using GB.

Why 2 threads of the exact same thing?

How do you see them the same?
First thread is asking what each user is doing. Either reverting, staying, or doesn't know yet.
The second thread is asking each user if they've gotten the GB radio bootloop.

Well if someone did have it then their phone would be permanitly toast. From what I understand it's not like a run of the mill bootloop in that CWR and Hboot don't work. So there is no coming back.

I got it after running BAMF 2.04-5 for a few days with no issues. It came out of the blue!

So your phone is bricked??

100% unusable. I can boot to HBOOT and factory recovery, but neither can do anything at this point.

So technically if you had the froyo radio on your sdcard you'd be just fine right?

Not at all. I spent hours loading different RUUs on my phone last night. Not a single one helped.
I tried stock root, stock unroot, stock without hboot, stock with hboot. None of them were of any use.
It is a true brick. All I can do is reset the phone over and over.

@Jamezelle just sent a tweet asking anyone with the bootloop issue AND running Linux to join them on irc
Jamezelle
anyone having this thunderbolt bootloop issue, running linux and have adb, come to irc.andirc.net #thunderbolt -- please RT

How are people supposed to vote if their phones are bricked. Lol just kidding of course.
But I know atleast 5 or so people said it happened to them in the Dev section must not have made their way over here yet.

It's already been stated that most of the people it's happened to hang out in IRC with the devs.. So they would have no reason to come to a thunderbolt general thread

are you serious do you have any idea what IRC is? what was said was that the people that got hit with bootloops were smart and went to IRC for help with the issues they were having instead of flooding XDA with their issues

MOST does not equal ALL... It was a post on Twitter, so they were looking for anyone who had the problem so they could try to troubleshoot it. I was merely posting it here to gain the attention of those people. My apologies if I offended you with my post.

No issues like this so far. I've only seen people with BAMF getting it though.. trend?

Android 2.2 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy S 4G?

I am trying to find the gingerbread rom for my husbands Galaxy S. Kind of new at this and will need directions if anyone can lead me in the right direction i'd be very greatful. Thanks in advance.
On a side note, 2.3 is Gingerbread. If you browse the Galaxy S forums, you would be able to find what you need. I went ahead and found the stock one for you.
Just a word of advise, if you are new to installing roms, I would recommend finding someone that knows what they are doing, or you could risk bricking his phone.
thanks although the links didn't show up he wants to be able to watch netflix on his phone of course if there is an easier way to allow him to do that i would be much happier with that. Im just not sure how to go about it i do understand that bricking is possible but i dont' have anyone to do it but me so i kind of stuck

Currently the only way to watch netflix on the gs4g is with Gingerbread 2.3.3.
There is a odin flashable rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146145
Before flashing I would read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001759
It is not that difficult just make sure to read through the forum and use the search button.
Remember however at this time gingerbread is a leaked build, so it may have some bugs. Future releases will likely fix this but may take some time.
THANKS
Thank you so much for all the info i did flash our HD2's to android but mine is having some issues now and i went to the GS but the screen was to small for me being as i'm almost blind in a sense but i will try this and see if this is what he wants or wants to go back to HD2. Again thanks so much.
you have absolutely no clue what your'e talking about. Please take 1 minute to research next time, and you'll realize there are 2 gingerbread versions on this site.
the fact tha you don't e ven know that 2.3 is gingerbread means you shouldn't even be posting yet
She asked a question. Yes, she could have researched, but you don't have to be so rude about it; especially when corradokng addressed her issue as well as telling her to search next time.
Abie, let us know how it goes. I hope you guys get it working. Check out the netflix threads in the themes section

T.A.R.D.I.S. 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich!)how do i install this?

I just downloaded this zip file and want to put it on my phone. im already rooted with CWM . i just dont want to mess anything up...can someone please give me a quick detailed description how to get this to the phone and install it flawlessy... what are the benefits of this rom anyway compared to the stock.? thank you all in advance for any helkp...
- In a nutshell..
- And I foresee a mod closing, moving or request different thread name.
- It's a SDK port, not from source. It's pretty stable, runs solely off the CPU and not the GPU. You might have to flash or install super user.
- Install thru recovery.. Wipe data etc and flash zip.. That's it. If you need visual there a thread with how to (s).

If you have the android exclamation in recovery, you need to flash the recovery image again - same as the first time. It usually takes two flashes before it sticks.
Backup current rom.
Factory reset/wipe all user data.
Wipe cache.
Advanced/wipe dalvik cache.
Install new rom zip from sd card. Reboot.
Since the xda app search engine sucks so bad, Google "how to flash nexus rom" and you'll find a thousand extremely detailed hits.
Try to stick with the xda hits, but the quality of members and posts has degraded rapidly since I registered here. Coincidence? I hope so!!

He got tired of the BS that goes on around here. He said that he was tired of answering question that could be answering by people just doing a little research, and was also tired of people not following the "rules." I completely understand his frustration. He wrote a huge post about it which I think can be found in the gerneral section titled "thinking of leaving XDA" or something like that. He even said he was thinking of disappearing and keeping his work to himself. I do not know if he has stopped deving or just went somewhere else. But god I hope he hasn't stopped deving for us.
Damn noobs making all the mistakes, yet we get the consequences aswell.

...See ya, I'm out... kinda. Still working on this phone, I just don't care to partake in the xda shenanigans anymore. Yup, sourceforge and github are where I do stuff.
See: http://bhundven.users.sourceforge.net for more... it should also point you to teamacid, teamnerd, and my personal stuff.
A few senior moderators have pm'd me, and I reexplained my opinion on xda, which they seem to agree with.
This site is called: xda-developers
I think this site needs to go back to being a place for "DEVELOPERS", like it once was.
The "Thinking of leaving..." post was deleted (afaik) because the users started to act unrully in it. Go figure. Good job guys.
But what I stated in that thread, and I will restate here. I'm not done developing, but I don't have a lot of time to work on this stuff. I'm close to getting cm7 to boot, but I will guess that after it works, and there will be lots of fixes before it is stable for users to use. So even if I get cm7 booting I won't release it right away. I do not want to push out a rom that doesn't work right. (well, good enough for me).
do what you gotta man. you have my full support. just wish people were as patient as i am. keep up the awesome work. also, if you need any help with anything, just let me know. i'm willing to test things out and also willing to help out with any graphical ideas. you know how to reach me.

I actually had some free time and i decided to read alot of the threads last night and i can see why you all get so frustrated with people asking "when will you be done??" "how does this work??" I had to read for about three days on just how to even root.. let alone flash my first rom.. but we all wont learn everything if we dont take the time to read it fully ( I love the whole trial and error of it.) Im by all means am not tech savvy but this site has all the answers to ALL the questions to ALL the beautiful roms on this site.. kernel's, roms, baseband, builds, and even mods.. all work in conjunction with eachother.. for me its like putting my own perfect puzzle together to my liking.. Brian has helped me out alot.. Ive only been a member on this site for a short period of time and it pains me that you all feel this way.. Im not a dev.. Im a nurse.. I do know from my career it can be frustrating from people asking the same questions over and over and over.. Ive asked alot of questions and you all have been so helpful to me.. Im just sorry you all feel this way.. I remember signing up a few months ago i watched the video and i got it.. there are alot of different personalities on this site some good some bad.. its just sad that a few "idiots" have got to screw it up for the rest of us that are willing to learn... Ive learned alot in my two months of being here and i just wanted to take the time and say thanks to all of you.. I love this site im on it all the time.. for me personally its a great site my Favorite period.. its just sad that all this ignorance would cause a great person to leave.. thanks Brian for all you have helped me with.. blessings to you and your family man..
Thanks bryan we will never forget you as u have done a big change to our phone... may the good Lord bless and keep you,, will always be at your side..
I am also thinking of migrating to rootz. I already have an account.
So I am reposting my rom over there. See me if you wish. I will respond to pm, and I will post rom updats and "Link Up" etc....

[Q] OTA out of nowhere. Can't install it - what's going on?

Today (10/27) I got notified of an OTA on my Skyrocket, and I haven't heard anything about one. I am running 4.0.4, rooted, with CWMR v5.5.0.4.
I did a nandroid backup, backed up all my apps with TB, and set SuperSU to survival mode. Then I let the OTA download, it installed and then it rebooted - into recovery. I continued the reboot from CWMR and when it finished the boot, the OTA said it was interrupted and couldn't finish. I cannot find a zip file on the phone anywhere to manually flash.
Tried this twice with the same result. What is going on? Where did this OTA come from anyway? What should I do? I think rebooting into recovery is interrupting the process somehow, but I am at a loss as to what to do now.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

So this post could've been left at one reply telling the guy that he can't install and should've looked in general. He didn't make me feel like crap - complete strangers do not do that for me. It's just annoying because posts like that can drive people away.
However, I did feel bad after I realized that there were several other threads on the same topic. I usually make an effort to avoid duplicate posts, but in this case I was in something of a hurry. In any event, I found my answer - I'm not taking the update, it's not worth the effort to go back to stock recovery.
Thanks!

"U NO MAKE ROMS OR KERNELS U NO WORTHY OF FORUM" is basically what's spewing from your mouth. Have whoever's in charge kick every single member off of the site if they're not a dev since that's the attitude you wanna have.
Otherwise, stop being such a damn bully and stop giving the site a bad rep. He made a mistake and got his answer. You clicked the thread, saw the answer and still decided to pummel him. That's called "being an asshole".

Very cool story. However, the forum is called xda developers and this is a place for developers. Read the rules and ask the moderators what this place is about, and they will tell you the same thing. Also, you have a potty mouth.

The basis of my post was that not everyone on here is a dev, regardless of if the site is called xda developers. Don't throw that up as an excuse to be a jerk because he's not the only non-developer in this forum or on the site.
And stuff like this makes me angry. Like, I could understand if you gave him an answer and then laid into him, but you just flamed him. My apology for swearing.
You wanna talk rules? Try reading section 2.5 under forum & marketplace rules.

I don't like lazy people. This generation is the laziest, most pathetic I've ever seen. You can either make an effort to change it or make it worse. Your choice, man.

That I can get behind. But there's also nothing wrong with a friendly reminder of the rules on researching first. Emphasis on friendly.

I had a thought...

Ok so first off, sorry if this is in the wrong section, please correct me as im kinda new. Also, I have searched the thread and couldnt find anything on this but if this is a double post, im sorry.
Now as of right now, the galaxy s4 google edition is still just a rumor. If it turns out to be real, and the hardware is the same as the att version, is there any way we could get the odin image, decompile it, put the att modem and bootloader in, then flash it? Would it work?

Why not post this in here, or at least read the thread because it is already being discussed? At the time I am posting this, this thread is literally 2 posts above.

Yeah I saw this but it didnt exactly duscuss what im trying to here. What I would loke to know is if we could get the odin image and port it to the att version without having to unlock the bootloader or anything. Just flash it through odin as if it were a stock image.

Yeah in that other thread, they are linking to the definition on "****!" needless to say it's way off topic. I too am wondering the same. Being that there are no hardware differences, I don't see it being a problem to share Roms. It's already gonna support AT&T and T Mobile frequencies, so I think it will be a share great between the different models!

Well we are in the att galaxy s4 forum so why wouldnt we all be on the same topic? Its already annouced it will support att bands so no need for modifying

He's talking about using the information to unlock the bootloader for the SGS4 ATT version.
I think we'll just have to sit tight and see what the developers dig up and figure out.

To be honest, it all depends on which bootloader the Google version comes with. AT&T bootloader is locked but T-Mobile is unlocked. Now I don't know a lot about bootloaders so please correct me, but if the Google version comes unlocked, it would most likely be the same as the T-Mobile one. I know for a fact using a T-Mobile stock ROM through ODIN on an AT&T S4 does not work. So until the bootloader is unlocked you won't be able to flash the Google stock ROM.
Supporting both AT&T and T-Mobile networks simply means it will work on both frequencies of LTE service. This has nothing to do with the bootloader because unlocking the phone from AT&T doesn't unlock the bootloader but the phone will work on the T-Mobile network.

He specifically said using the AT&T bootloader. I don't think he's trying to unlock the bootloader this way, I just think he's trying to run stock Android using the same technique for getting out of a recovery loop (flashing stock ROM through ODIN). Without an unlocked bootloader this won't be possible because the ROM won't flash.

Unbelievable. why are we doing this? there are many threads on this...PLEASE PEOPLE! If you are new, I understand, but it is not hard to scroll down a few pages and see same topics that you can input your opinions. The G4 forums are not HUGE yet, real easy, just look.
I'll say it again before someone else has too, NO IT WILL NOT UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER! Bootloader encryption is deep and the kernel must be signed by AT&T in order to load. The Google GS4 is OBVIOUSLY NOT going to have the same bootloader since they are not AT&T, simple as that. Flash your GS4 with a Google ROM and Kernel and you will be bricked and or it just won't even flash.
NOW PLEASE STOP ASKING!
Jesus people, he's asking about the possibility of converting our phones into the Google Edition with an Odin flash. Where the hell did this get misconstrued as asking if it will unlock his bootloader? Take a couple benadryl and get off the computer for an hour. The guy just wants stock aosp on his phone, like many of us wouldn't mind having.

You need to calm down. Plain and simple. The other threads are talking about unlocking the bootloader, this one is not. He simply asked about flashing AOSP on an AT&T phone with the original bootloader.

Same as above. Calm down. How about you actually read the damn post instead of seeing the word bootloader and crying about it. NOTHING in the original post was about unlocking the bootloader. He wanted to flash AOSP and IF you would have read my reply you would have known this.

I'm sorry I thought the OP was more intelligent then that and thought it was implied given you can't flash the ROM without an unlocked bootloader. Maybe YOU need to chill and stop being pompous. You've been a member for two days, I've been a member for two years.
I hate to be a **** but the forum has been flooded with the same questions over and over without any thought or care of trying to search for answers other then for themselves. It needs to stop, enabling it is not helping the situation.

I have better idea how about just search for your own answers instead of posting and then you won't have to deal with the pompous pricks.

You "thought the OP was more intelligent," however you must have decidedly skip on reading the FIRST sentence in the post where he is apologizing if its in the wrong section and that he is "new here." Your assumptions led you down the path to what Nitro posted and fairly gave me the same impression (without the name calling). Either way, its cleared up now. Lets just move on.

Hes not talking about flashing roms you tool.
Hes talking about using odin and using the google s4 files instead of the att s4 file. Not that hard of a concept to get nor is it necessary to rage over.

Friendly reminder: being here for 2 years doesn't give you the right to be a **** to a new user when he wasn't even asking about what you posted. That being said, I'm not posting this to continue the argument. You said you'd be done and so will I. However, just to clarify, I only brought up the bootloader to explain that flashing AOSP won't work and explained why.

When I was brand new here, I sorta thought the same way. The things is though, I read every single thread and post about my phone. I didn't ask a question that was already answered ten times over. That's where noobs go wrong. They don't read. They're (often times) too lazy to do any of their own foot-work to try and solve their problem or answer their question. It's not so much people being pompous as it's devs and members are just tired of the same old thing over and over again. This has been going on long before I was a member.
There was a dev that made ROMs for my old phone. They were my favorite! You know what happened? That dev got tired of people posting the same questions and flooding his inbox with the same crap. So, because of lazy people, myself and everyone else that used his ROMs suffered. That's when I stopped caring about how some people respond to others. Spend a few years here and I think you'll have a better understanding of that.

There's a difference between someone starting a new thread and people flooding one particular dev. Besides, the issue here was unique (and apparently some "experienced" people still aren't grokking why).
People do need to chill out about this sort of thing. Besides, the search function is kind of ****ty and is not working half the time, so cut people some slack if there's some overlap. It's not going to hurt you.
