INspire goes into car mode by itself - HTC Inspire 4G

About 2 days a go my Inspire started going into car mode by itself. I figured it was something I did from installing roms so I put everything back to stock and it fixed the problem for a few hours. Then the problem started again.
So I took the phone to ATT and of course it worked fine when I was there. However as soon as I started driving home it started up again. I then plugged my phone into the car charger and it stopped. So now I'm wondering if it's an issue caused by the usb port, or the usb cable that came with the phone from HTC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do u have ur bluetooth synced to car? If yes, that's a trigger for car mode to pop up. U can disable this in the app settings.

I don't have any bluetooth devices at all.
I should have been more clear I guess. It goes into car mode just sitting in my pocket. or on my desk.

If u don't plan on using it, u can freeze it in tibu, or set it to "disable on boot, keep disabled" options in start up auditor, or rename the apk to bak extension.

I never plan on using it, i'll try that out tonight. First I need to re-root my phone though.

I've been having the same issue, always from my pocket with the screen off. I'm running gingerbeast 1.0 and just figured it was rom related, thinking something else now.

I was running CM7 when it started, so I went back to Leedroid and it kept happening. So I loaded up CoreDroid and still had the same problem. No I'm 100% with s-on and everything and it was still not working until I plugged it into my car charger for some reason.

I ran into this same problem, it would just go into car mode for no reason and when I would get out it would just go back into it. I haven't done anything to the phone since I got it, no rooting or anything like that. But then after I restarted it a couple times and took the battery out it was fine. good luck on getting this fixed

hey guys new to the forum. i just started running into this problem over the last day and a half and signed up to ask about it. I just got this phone a bit under a month ago and havent rooted the phone or downloaded any non market apps.
I planned on taking it to AT&T tomorrow, but was curious if there was a fix i could do before hand.. has anyone found a way to fix the problem for sure?

I did a battery pull on it, and plugged it into my car charger and that fixed it for some reason.

Yep have/had the same deal. Not rom dependent. I deleted the God damn thing I finally got so tired of it happening at the worst times, and all is well in the world since. Kinda a wierd bug. I honestly thought it was something my dumbass was doing, good to see im not alone.

Hi guys, I'm also having the same problem. Tried google search but only thing came up was people complaining when they plug it into a USB cable which understandably will trigger it
Mine however would do it on its own, sometimes when I'm in the middle of something, sometimes it just sit there. I was not rooted when it started happening. After rooting, it's still doing it. I'm still on stock ROM right now but from what you guys said then even if I go to custom ROM it would still be the same issue then
There's a way to disable it from what others posted online, by going into the Navigation app and go to option and turn off automatic car mode. Unfortunately every time I open Navigation, mine will always says your country is not supported (I'm in Kuwait) and switch to google maps and won't let me go to option so I'm kinda screwed

It should be something like car home or car dock.

I don't see anything related to car dock or navigation or anything of the sort on Tibu.

I found it finally. It is called "CarHomeGoogle.apk" under /system/app folder. Try looking for the same on urs too. Maybe look for CarHome.apk if that's not found, and rename it to .bak file.

This happens everytime i use my car charger. Turns out i can use my radio to charch my phone through the USB port so i just switched it over to that.

No luck there either.

I had the same problem quite a while ago.
The problem is that the Inspire's mini USB port is not engineered well in a way that the gold pins touch each other in some way, which emulates the way a car charger starts up car mode.
My solution was to clean up the port using an air blower, since dust can arc the two pins together, shorting it.

No luck there or finding the cargoogle.apk in coredroid. Any other ideas?I have a feeling that this is what is causing my screen to come on by itself thus draining my battery.

[Q] Car Home App

Has anyone else had Car Home just randomly start on their G2x? Mine seems to start mainly late at night when the battery is low or when it's on the charger charging over night.
Just wondering if anyone else is having these problems.
Is your phone near a magnet?
Sent from my G2x running Cyanogen mod.
it is not. it's just sitting on my computer desk being charged via usb from my computer. It is not mounted to my computer.
yes i have had it start on me randomly.
yeah, mine was doing this too, not even task killer could help me. Eventualy i deleted Car Home app
Yea I finally rooted and installed titanium backup and just uninstalled all the t-mo bs!
woohoo to an awesome phone!
Mine does this, except it randomly starts Nova, which I've never even touched before!
Mine would open when I tried to see if it would fit in a case, had something to do with the magnet in the case. I uninstalled it along with the rest of the bloatware and that annoying process that would continue to run for OTAs. Now we just need a way to remove FlexProvider without breaking internet connection.
Car home app is always running on mine I force stop and fires right back up its kinda annoying. t-mobile app pack always running and a few other t-mobile bloat wares . I'am thinking about rooting and flashing roms but not to sure if there is any stable roms for g2x yet.

Touchscreen Jitter Issue

Ok so i picked up my new skyrocket 2 days ago and I put CWM on it, made a back up and installed the ICS flavor ROM from the development forum. Everything went fine, and i didnt use the phone much yesterday, but today i noticed that i am having annoying touchscreen problems. It basically makes Swype unusable. I have restored back to stock and it was still doing it. I have reinstalled the ICS rom, double flashing it, and it still does it. Is anybody else having issues like this? Its noticable on lists. This video is just an example but it does it in the market, on web pages, etc..
http://youtu.be/x__jdlGXyjk
I have never had these problems. Maybe take it back and exchange it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Update:
I used odin and i reset everything to stock with no CWM and no Root and the issue has stopped as far as i can tell. Maybe i just had a bad download. Ill redownload it again and flash it tonight and see if it persists.
Ok so ive been using stock and it started again. I used an app called Touch Test to see what the screen is seeing. It is a really intermittent issue. There is a "ghost touch" that is happening. near the top of the screen and at the bottom of the screen. A touch in the middle causes it to jump to the top and then back to the bottom causing touches to jump all over the place. It is very intermittent. I didnt buy the phone from ATT so there could be 2 reasons for the this.
A) It was sold to me like this
B) The people at ghost armor put to much liquid on my phone when applying the screen protector and messed up my phone.
I didnt notice any issues before i got it ghost armored, but i only had the phone 2 days before i got it wrapped.
Any ideas on how to recalibrate the screen or any other options i may have?
Found the culprit... Kind of embarrassed it took me this long. Ended up being the wall charger. Its a cheap knock off but it had the same input and output. I was sitting at my desk on the touch test app seeing it spaz out and unplugged it to show my friend what was happening and it stopped. Used the same cable to plug into the pc and no problem. Well that is a relief.

Wow, thanks a lot for this info man! You really saved my life.
I also got a new charger and started experiencing these weird jitters. If it wasn't for this post I would never have figure it out.
My new charger was an Original one from Samsung, but it was obviously made for a different model as the output voltage and current were higher = caused jitters.
I then went back to using my old charger which came with the phone and the issue is gone.
Using Samsung Galaxy S5 NEO (SM-G903F).
Thanks again!!!

[Q] DIP Switch

Does anyone know what the DIP switch located in the transformer is for? The only thing I found is a post mentioning a different wifi setup.
My experience messing with it is that the transformer won't turn on when it is in the up position unless the tablet is plugged into its charger.
Please see post 7 for the issue I am experiencing and how the Dip switch is involved.

Off the top of my head, I thought it was the switch that disables the battery? Somewhere, in a galaxy far, far away, there is a thread, and buried deep in that that thread, someone speculated that the ASUS techs use that switch to shunt the battery when they service bricked TFs so that the flux capacitor doesn't blow up and send us all back to the 80s. OK, maybe that's a bit of a strech, but I do think it has something to do with the battery.

Nice! Especially the Back to the Future reference. Allow me to explain my situation and why I am so interested in that tiny switch.
I purchased my Transformer from Newegg back in July or August. It was an open box and I saved around $150 because of that. Unfortunately that means it only had a 1 month warranty, this brings us to my problem. It runs great but every once in a while a lot of the apps, including the browser, will force close. Also if I go in to settings once this problem starts and shut off the WiFi and then try to turn it back on it just says error. Trying to turn on Bluetooth also does not work.
The solution is to reboot, however, it will only run for a short while before the problem returns. I have tried the stock rom rooted and unrooted, I have tried various roms, revolution, prime, revolver. After flashing a rom or doing a factory reset the transformer will run for around 12 hours without the above mentioned problem but it always comes back and it happens more and more frequently until I do a factory reset.
I have tried countless things. Various roms as mentioned, factory resets, freezing as much as I can using titanium backup, not adding a Google account, turning off gps, different wireless networks, assigning a static ip address, using ExtSd2InternalSd v2.1 to install apps on an sd card. All of this with no success.
Enter that dip switch. I decided since my warranty was over I would open it up and do some poking around. I discovered if I put that switch in the up position and boot the transformer with it plugged into the charger it runs perfectly stable. The issue is gone. only problem is that I can only use it plugged in. This situation lead me to the conclusion that it is a power supply issue, maybe a defective battery (Not getting the full 1.21 gigawatts . So.... I switched out the battery in my dock with the one in the transformer and put the dip switch in its original down position..... No Luck, the problem persisted. Return the switch to up and plug it in, runs great.
Anyone have an idea?
How does it run while the switch is down (in the crappy position) and plugged in?

The problem is still there. I even tried it in the down position with the battery disconnected and the transformer plugged into the charger but the problem continued.
I guess it could be a power/hardware issue or maybe a sleep/software issue. Perhaps it doesn't sleep while it's plugged in?
Regardless, it's quite an interesting problem.
gee one, thanks for your help. Maybe someone will come up with a fresh idea, I have tried most of what I can think of.
I might try the dual boot Ubuntu thing to see if I have the problem in Ubuntu. I figure that mite help narrow down if it is a software or hardware problem. I lean towards hardware because I have not been able to find others with this issue. Then again, maybe others that have had this problem had a warranty and returned it for an exchange.

Forgot to mention, I tried setting the screen to never shut off in hopes that it would prevent the transformer from sleeping. Not sure if there is another way to prevent it from sleeping? Whatever the case leaving the screen on did not prevent the problem from surfacing.

I was about to ask where this switch was at because I've never seen it, then I read that it's inside the unit. I have no reason to crack this bad boy open yet so that's why I had no idea about it.
It is a battery kill switch, makes it easier to work on without blowing the **** out of the unit by bridging the wrong points on the board for what ever reason. basically with the switch up it is a "service mode"

Car Mode turn on

hi people.. A few days ago my inspire switched to car mode all by it self, and since then it happens every day, even though i have tried to turn it of when the notification apears, also this problem has made it that way that every time i make ar recive a call it switches to speaker imidietly all by it self,,what should i do?
Please help somebody
Just freeze it in titanium backup and unfreeze when you need it. When you have time, reinstall the rom.
Same happens with me.. so i removed dock mode from system/app/ & locations from root uninstaller..
now i have speakerphone always on whenever i get call.... what to do for that??
My fiancee's inspire was having the same problems as this and all that it was was a faulty micro usb connection...also try to clean the contacts inside the charging port with a small brush, if you still don't have any luck after that just let me know!

I had this issue as well. I cleaned out the Micro USB port the best I could and couldn't seem to stop it from happening unless I unrooted and switched back to the stock ROM (I'm guessing this was only because the stock ROM doesn't have the option for a dock and thus the event is ignored) via the AAHK. My solution was to pay the five dollars for NoDock (link to the trial version) which stops Car Dock from launching and stops the speaker from turning on the calls. You could try looking at other options as well, I just wanted a fix so I paid for it.

Keeps going into car mode...

My M8 for the past week has been entering car mode for no apparent reason. Could it be there is something wrong with the USB port on the phone or something else?
It's the charger/cable you're using. My M8 does it as well with a cable (that's a power-only cable, no data pins) I use to charge my phone from my PC with. I've had 4 replacement M8s (all for separate hardware issues) and they all did the same thing on the same cable. It hasn't done it with any of the other several chargers I use at home. But when it does to it on that one cable, it only seems to do it when I try to use any demanding apps/games while plugged in. It won't do it if I'm just poking around the launcher or browser.
Mine is happening when not plugged in also.

Ahh, well then yeah, I would have to say there's definitely some hardware issue with your USB port then.
Yup, my phone is screwed its stuck in car mode, tried everything. Is there a way to edit a system file to completely disable it? Replacing phone is not an option for me.

I've tried disabling/freezing anything with the word "car" in it in Titanium Backup to no avail on my M8, it still does it with that same cable. When it does it and the "Car Mode Enabled" notification shows up in the notification shade, I can long-press it and go to app info, where it takes me to "Android System", so it appears to have hooks deep into the Android OS and something you can't really disable. This Xposed module may have some options to disable it or at least keep it from being so invasive if you're rooted.
But I guarantee you that you can get the phone replaced under warranty, even if you have it S-Off'd/unlocked, because I have done it. Unless your phone is physically damaged..? But even then, they may not charge to repair the USB port or motherboard if that's the only issue. Can't hurt to ask HTC.
I seem to have "fixed" it by plugging it in about 20-30 times and violently yanking out the cable... Not sure how long this fix will last since looking into the port I seen nothing wrong with any of the pins or any contaminants in there, also high pressure air didn't work.

Hey you guys need to go to app manager then swipe to (all) under that you should disable dock mode and car mode then reboot. Should fix problem for live. Some magnets and other objects will toy with the sensors in your phone expecially the ones by the USB connector
I've been having this problem too. The Car app and Daydream would randomly open and close. I've just performed a hard reset and it appears to have fixed the problem.
----------UPDATE 3 DAYS LATER.....
So a hard reset has not fixed this. The car app did not open for a couple of days but I have had the loud speaker turning on every time I answer a call. I've just used my earphones with the phone for the first time since I performed the hard reset and now the car app is opening again. I've tried to clean out the 3.5mm socket but its not making a difference. It seems strange that the hard reset did kind of fix it until the earphone socket was used. Now I really don't know if it's a hardware or software issue!
I had the same issue with my M8 unlocked version. Also had the problem where the speakerphone would go on and off during calls and some other issues but now since updating to the newest HTC build with Android 5.0 I haven't noticed anything.
Could it be that HTC were aware of these issues and have now fixed them?
Have any of you had progress with the new update or are the issues still apparent?
Will update later when I have had more time to test the new software out but as of now it looks like its fixed.
Mine just started doing this tonight too.. no matter what kind of cable gets plugged in to it, it goes into car/ docked mode and turns my wifi on, and rotates all around when I don't want it to. It's VERY annoying. I tried doing a factory reset on it and it's still doing it when I plug a charger in. It also is doing it just randomly when no cable is plugged in.
I'm wondering if a lot of people are having this issue recently, if it was something in one of the recent updates to the HTC service pack sent out by HTC via the Play Store. Anyone know???
Well, so much for that update...
After almost exactly a week without any problems it started acting up again this morning. In and out of carnode. Guess I'll just make use of my warranty and send it in for service.
yep.. me too. Did a reset and was working fine for about a week and just started doing it again today. WTF.
This was happening to me back in the fall. IIRC, my fix was to clean out the charging port. Look for how-to on web. I think the problem is some crossed pins with dirt making the phone think it's plugged in to dock.

I had my phone sent in for service and it turned out to be a faulty speaker. They swapped it and I haven't encountered any of the problems I had prior to sending it in.
How the speaker was interfering with the operating system I have no idea, my best guess it was shorting out something but it's just a theory.
phone keeps entering car mode
I have had this issue and completely fixed it, on your phone find car mode, scroll down to a hidden settings menu, in settings disable auto dock mode, auto connect, in fact disable everything, then exit car mode using the exit button. Restart your phone and hopefully it never enters car mode again and charges normally.
I had this issue for months and bought a new phone that I didn't like so came back to the HTC and eventually fixed it.
This is the flex USB cable. They go bad and cause car mode / dock mode like this. The cable itself is $14 and you likely will be replacing the sticker speaker grills which are $11. I have personally repaired this and it is the only permanent fix. Not disabling an app. Not removing an app. This failure is due to hardware and hardware only.
BTW.... way to dig up an old thread lol.

I've ordered a new USB flex cable with charge dock pcb. I'll be sure to post my experiences with that, hope it fixes this annoying issue as Dottar suggested
