I can't understand how to check the current firmware version on my Omnia 7.
I want to know if it is much older than this new one leaked I8700XXKC1 XXKB2 ...
App List -> Settings -> About -> More Information

I knew that, but there the version is a sequence of only numbers and not comparable with this format I8700XXKC1 XXKB2 (for example). However my is 2424.10.10.5 .

I had a look at shipped-roms.com and was confused about which is the right rom to be used.Can anyone please answer these doubts:
1.Which is the latest 'stock' original rom that i must download ?
2.Also can this rom be rooted ?
3.How do i find the current version of my ROM ?
4.Will flashing a ROM erase ALL my information like contacts etc ?
5. Speaking of contacts , Sense automatically fetched all contacts from Facebook. --> I dont want those contacts, is there some way to filter between the fb contacts and the actual 'useful' contacts that i will add?
I don't have a Legend and my ROM is in french.

2. Nothing can't be rooted (except beetroot).
3. Go to "Settings" and look for something called "About your phone".
4. If you change ROM, you have to perform a "full wipe" so, yes. If you simply update your ROM, you have to wipe your cache and you won't loose your contacts. I suppose you have a Gmail account where your contacts are saved!
NB. When performing a full wipe, you don't loose personal data from your SD-Card!
5. You can choose to show all contacts or only the phone ones (not Facebook). Look somewhere using the "menu" button on contacts

The one you have to take depends on your location. Are in Asia? Have you got a Vodafone Legend?...
EDIT Those .exe will unroot your device!
Ok, so if i go for WWE while living in Asia , would it make a difference ? What kind of ? Is there a difference in features between different roms ?

Ok, so ive downloaded the ROM for debranding purposes RUU_Legend_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.26.707.1_Radio_47.26.35.04_7.05.35.26L_rel_120993.exe
Ive made a goldcard and booted my legend to fastboot , then i started the exe , it began erasing the data and then came ERROR140 bootloader version error .. plz help me out guys
Also the image version shows that im going from 3.X to 1.X ... why is it that i have to downgrade to get the debranded ?

My phone was SHW-M110S desperately looking for upgrade to 2.3.6
first i downloaded & used Samsung ROM, which looks just a base version & i was unable to see IMEI no (*#06#) it always says UNKNOWN APPLICATION, + other minor annoying issues , then i started checking every ROM mentioned below link

finally when i installed "BBANANA WF07 Ultimate Edition" Really nice , i could simply see my IMEI no & also has better look, really this ROM is strongly recommendable ( it is not only just fast but has little Chinese/Korean default applications )
But, one small thing like,
in top slider i do see "Data" "WiFi" enable/disable symbols , but those does not look working as intended
meaning if i wanted to enable "Data" 3G internet i should go to "Settings ->3G data Call Settings -> Enable/Disable"
Is there any fixed version of this available ?
what is this "Update.zip"

I've done some research but many sources seem to either use the terms interchangeably or as separate items. I figured no better place than get the info directly from xda users. So basically I am trying to figure out what the differences are between an android app, and android OS, and android firmware. Your explanation will be much appreciated.
Also while i'm here if anyone could tell me what the difference in unlocking a phone, rooting a phone, and flashing a phone is that would be great.

What a bunch of questions All informations are already written doen on XDA but i'll post a short overview
app = installable appliction e.g. a camera app or messenger app
OS = operating system ~ the installed Android version (e.g. Gingerbread 2.3 or KitKat 4.4). Can be preinstalled "stock rom" or a manually installed "custom rom"
firmware = all system partitions bundled in one archive. Can be used to restore phone. Every manufacturer has its own firmware format.
unlocking = Either sim unlock for using all providers OR unlock the "bootloader" which is needed for some phones if you want to install modified software e.g. a "custom rom" or "root acces"
"root access" means ability to read/write/delete to all partitions even e.g. system
"flashing" describes the installation process for e.g. a firmware or custom rom or any other system parts that can't be installed via Android itself.

I am rather new at android. I recently acquired used Samsung Galaxy S5830. Hardware is in excellent condition, however firmware and software are a real mess. The phone seems to have Cynogenmod as a custom ROM installed which I find annoying and there are bunch of apps that I don't dare removing not knowing what they are while basic things are missing including possibility to add Samsung account, email client, gmail client, maps, Samsung apps, navigation etc.... I would like to get the phone either back to its original state or some other custom ROM that would include all (and only) original preinstalled Samsung applications as many of them are missing now, whie there is bunch of stuff I don't need and don't know what they are.
I have found appropriate USB drivers, installed them, appropriate tar.md5 file, installed Odin 3.7, put the phone in download mode and tried to do it myself. However, Odin creates a port but fails each time, I get no yellow or green where its supposed to be. I am not using the phone yet, so I don't mind wiping it all, no backup is needed.

I have nokia N8 and I recently managed to downgrade firmware from nokia belle refresh to scandinavian 11.05 firmware using instructions from this forum. Now I would like to refurbish it, but I want to use lowest possible firmware that is available for my product code. First I have one question, on mrcrab.net for nokia N8 RM-596 the lowest possible software is 11.12. I click on that link, and than I find my product code 059D6F4. And here I encounter my first problem there are 2 versions, V1 and V2. V1 has Variant ID: 4566463622, and V2 has Variant ID:4732303273. I don't know what is my variant ID, I searched on google and I can't find how to read Variant ID from my phone. So my first question is how to find Variant ID for my phone. Next I tried to write firmware from V2 version, although I am not sure if it is my Variant. So I downloaded all files from this page, put it in RM-596 folder in .../Phoenix/Products, renamed all files that contain RM-596 or RM596 in their name, so that all characters before these are deleted. But still there are some files with names without these chars so I left them as they are. Than I click Flashing, Firmware Update, than I click button with 3 dots [...]. In new window I get recognized my product code, in first column is 059D6F4, Description is empty, DP ver column shows 2.0. Since this is the only option I have, and only folder in Products folder is RM-596, I choose this and click OK. But here is problem and my second question, in Firmware Update window Product Code, and SW version text boxes are grayed, and Variant dropdown doesn't have any options. What am I suppose to do regarding this problem, thank in advance. Also I disable antivirus, run Phoenix as administrator, phoenix version is 2012.04.003.47798, the same one I used for downgrade from Belle refresh to Scandinavian FW. If anyone wants to help me via TeamViewer I would appreciate it.
