Oem travel charger: It is leh suck. - Epic 4G Accessories

So yeah, the oem travel charger that came with the Epic is being difficult. I believe it's the cable. It constantly comes out with the slightest movement. It's not locking in place. I'm using my bluetooth headset cable for the time being. The problem is that it's short but the male end locks correctly and stays in place. I can see a difference in the size of the ends on both cables as well as quality.
Does anyone recommend a good replacement charger or cable? They are all pretty cheap so I'd rather not waste my time trying out all of them. Thanks

I use one that looks like that, it came with a TEP replacement.

I use the HTC one. My wife has an HTC EVO and I used hers one day and they were so well made I bought one for myself through Amazon with free shipping. Just do a search on Amazon.

Any other dock that uses dock pins?

I think the google desktop dock is way to expensive, as i only need it as a charger and have no need for the A2DP function.
But all the cheap dock's on ebay uses the USB connection and not the dock pins, has anybody found a cheap dock that has dock pins connection?
It's much more convenient to be able to just drop the phone in a dock instead of needing to connect the phone to a dock, and be able to use the dock mode is a plus when you use it as an alarm clock.
I was wondering the same thing, is it that hard to reproduce that? I havnt seen anything besides the usb ones either and i have heard it can screw up the usb connection of n1s so didnt want to buy one of those
Exactly the same thoughts here
does anyone have specs of which pins do what? (i.e. do you apply +5 v to pin 1, ground to pin2, etc)
i've got some ideas on a homebrew dock.

Search for the thread: "Dock Pinout"
It seams that it alot harder, that there is a binary communication in one of the pins, not just a current that tells it to go into dock mode...
Doh! delete my post haha.
Just bought an original Nexus One Desktop Dock brand new from Ebay for $15.00 . The seller has 49 more available. It arrived today and it's all original with sealed packaging. Just throwing it out there if anyone is interested.

Too bad it isn't shipped for free outside the US. Shipping costs are more than half of the costs of the dock itself :silly:

brought last week http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/330770220824?item=330770220824
Dock US $15.00
Shipping US $8.46 (Germany)
Thats €18,65 (a new one costs 60€ at launch day ..)
I bought the dock when I first got the nexus one. If you guys get one for cheap and want to continue using the Nexus One, go for it. I mean the phone does slide down easly if the bump against the dock. But the lack of wear on the usb connector is well worth it.
Do you mind giving any feedback on this unit? I want to buy a separate charger cause I have a spare battery and OEM dock the previous owner bought new with the phone but I want to be able to charge the spare battery without swapping back and forth from the phone. Its a real hassle. I don't want to buy a charger that ends up cooking the battery.

Here's what I bought:
<From Amazon>
*Wall Charger -> USB- $2.45
*USB -> MicroUSB- $1.48
Total- $3.93 (free shipping via Amazon Prime)
But from monoprice.com-
*Wall Charger -> USB- $2.16
*USB -> MicroUSB- $1.02
Total-$3.18+S&H.
For my location, the cheapest S&H was $1.88, making Monoprice $5.06, or $1.13 more expensive then me buying it off of Amazon.com, so bought it off of Amazon.com.
Most people don't get free shipping from Amazon though, so it's not really a fair comparison.
I do that that if you're buying from Monoprice you'll probably want to throw in some other random stuff to make the shipping cost worth it. Even with the cost of shipping included though, Monoprice is still a pretty good deal.
Sorry to bump this, but I found what looks like the OEM HTC charger and cable for pretty cheap on eBay. Seems like a great deal if it is indeed OEM.

I suggest Ebay, make sure the seller is realiable (most of them are anyways), unless its some random inspire user selling a charger.
Go to the nearest hotel. A corporate hotel like a Holiday inn express and tell the clerk that u left ur charger about a month ago . If he asks what room just say it was under the name of a coworker that u just meet that day . Change the subject fast and say its a charger that has a microusb like the blackberry or Motorola and that ur in a bit of a hurry to catch a flight. He will probably pull out a box full of cellphone chargers if ur in luck . If not try the next hotel lol.

Great cheap little car charger

For those of you that dont know about the site Dealextreme, its chock full of cheap Chinese made gadgets and gizmos, and lots of knockoff name brand stuff. I just received one of the best car chargers ive ever had for my phone from the site, and the best part is it was only $2.80 shipped. The cord retracts into the body to keep clutter down that you get with the $30 charger from Best Buy.

I ordered two, one for my girlfriends HTC, and unsurprisingly one of them came with a damaged cable (insulation was peeled off). Though after sending them a picture, theyre sending me a new one at no cost. I ordered a similar one for my Nokia E72 a few months ago which worked well. As well as a retractable 4 in 1 AC charger (Nokia, mini and micro USB, and iPhone all spliced into one cable) to keep at the shop for about $4. Its all cheap Chinese made crap, but still a great value.
I dont work for the site, just sharing what i though was a great find.
that website is ok, but the quality of their item is relatively poor. There are only a few items that have decent quality.
Yes if one out of two was falling apart when you got it that doesn't speak well for it lasting very long.
$2.80 dude

I use this one for all my MicroUSB needs. For under $5 shipped, it's amazing, looks nice (the circle is glass that lights up blue), and "name brand" I suggest this one over a $3 cheaply made one.
I just use one of these:

nice and compact and i can charge any USB device from it, put's out enough amps to even charge my wifes ipad....

Where to get stock cable?

I hope this is what you are looking for...it's about as close as you are going to find to original and I use 2 of them so I know they work for data and charging.
i bought mine
my stock one got chewed up by my dog, i found that most micro-usb cables in my house only worked for charging,
finding one on ebay worked best. it looked more generic than most, no stickers on the back, but oddly enough, its the same (exterior looking) one that came with my galaxy tab.
my choice: ebay- cheap and quick shipping
Get it from samsung

Forget stock go to radio shack buy gold tipd micro usb/data cable. $30 and ten times the quality
Or order from monoprice for excellent quality inexpensive cables and don't look back. Do not waste $30 on a freaking cable.

I'm sure its good quality and all, but I paid under $10 for the one I got from Amazon.com (link above to the other thread) and it has worked for everything just fine. I have 2 of them now and I use them both for charging and data transfer all of the time. I guess it all depends on personal preference and how much you are willing to pay, but for $30 you can get three cables (and the 1 amp chargers with them) from Amazon if you are willing to wait 3 or 4 days for delivery. Of course, there is always the chance of getting a bad one when the seller sells 100s or 1000s of them but the same holds true for Radio Shack. I can only report the results I got.
I think the OP should buy one from Amazon.com ($10) and send me $10 also...still saving $10 in the process.
I prefer the stock SGH-i777 charger and cable over the SGH-i727 ones. You can get factory 2nd OEM ones on ebay for less than $5 with free shipping.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Samsung...Accessories&hash=item2a1a6cb3f6#ht_1490wt_905
Just a warning. Factory second means they have some scratches on the plastic charger. But the cables were brand spanking new. I ordered 3 of these. The SGH-i777 cables are a tad longer and feels more durable.
Get one here. 6ft gold plated for mega cheap.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=4868&seq=1&format=2
You should never pay more than this for a silly cable. I have at least 4 of these and never had any problems.

3rd party microUSB cable

Hi
I just bought a 3rd party microUSB cable from ebay for $2. In outer material comparison it is better than my HTC stock cable. I did notice some differences in the microUSB pin though. Can some one please tell me if.this causes any issues in operating ? If you see the last image the female area for the actual connecting pin is slightly smaller than the stick cable's. Though if I gently connect it to my phone it does fit.
So aren't these things supposed to be standardize ? Why is the HTC pin different ?

Mind posting a link to we're you bought it from.
And how are they performing?
My wife always has issues with cables on her sensation, some end up fitting really loosely and fall out extremely easily. The last one I bought her was $20 and worked great, but is really beat up now, I need to get another one.
Type R-blood
This $2 cable (including shipping) really performs well, I am in India so I got it from ebay.in. Amazingly it had a warranty also. I have used it 2-3 times now and. works quiet well with my HTC travel charger. I plan to get more of these if they come up on daily deals again.

$20?!
Goodness gracious....the US Congress wouldn't even overspend like that. (Slight exageration. They would spent $400 on a USB cable)
Look at Monoprice.com. Enjoy the savings.
Don't hessitate to buy a cable there just because it's $1 instead of $20. The quality is not lacking. Monoprice just sells a cable that costs $0.50 to make for $1 for a 50 cent profit instead of selling a 50 cent cable for $20 to make a $19.50 profit.
I won't even get into the lunacy of $100 Monster Cables.
+1 for monoprice.com
Good lord $20 bucks for a cable? Where can I purchase that haha.
Seriously, always compare prices before buying online.

I recommend monoprice to anyone looking to buy cables. Never had a single issue with any of the microUSB or HDMI cables, wall charger, or cig lighter adapter I've bought from them. Between 2 10ft MicroUSB cables, 4 HDMI cables, wall charger, and the cig lighter I've spent about as much as I would have for a single HDMI cable at WalMart, let alone Best Buy...
