Switching between MIUI and Cm7? - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

I want to switch between MIUI and CM7 and I was hoping that I could just flash each one whenever I want. Im currently running CM 7.0.3.1 for the HTC evo 4G if that helps. Thanks for any help
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

You can just make sure u wipe everything before u flash it and it should go alright

Make a backup of your current rom in recovery. Wipe factory/data, cache, davlik, flash the other rom, flash gapps, then make a backup of that rom. Then you can switch between the backups in recovery.

First of all thanks for the help guys but I think I didn't explain what I was looking for very well. I wa hoping that I wouldn't have to wipe and stuff. I wanted to just be able to keep my data folder and just have to flash the Rom each time without having to wipe and after restore

You'll have to do a full wipe whenever switching to a different ROM. The only time you do not have to do a full wipe is when you are changing nightlies or updating your current ROM.

All right thanks. U mind telling me which one is better in ur opinions?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

Actually their both good! I started out w/ CM, the nightlies have a few bugs at times, but most of them eventually get resolved..!! At the moment though i use Evo Decks and/or MIUI, just because everything works w/ these roms and they agree w/ Tiamat kernels very well, fast and smooth and battery life is great!!! If you like changing the look of your phone often, then i'd go with MIUI coz of the theme manager...

I like CM7 but I kinda just reminds me of my old moto Droid but Miui thats just a turn in a new direction. I would choose MIUI over CM7 but both are great! Right now im running the rom from E prophecy, its just sense but im a flash-a-holic so I wanted to try it out.

All right awesome thanks a lot guys. Tonight I'm gonna titanium backup and then flash Miui. Thanks again guys

Well Im running miui now and I love the UI. Thanks again

switch to savage zens rom. Its super fast, stable, and fuzes elements of both MIUI and CM7.
I just switched to it from MIUI, and I ran that for a week after a month of using CM7, and I am in absolute love. I encourage anyone to give it a shot.

Just a heads up if you want 4G/Wimax MIUI doesn't have it yet. CM7 and Savaged-Zen do.

Im gonna download it tonight and try it out. Thanks
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

i switch between miui, cm7, and savaged-zen pretty often. the latest miui builds seem slow on my phone no matter what kernel, and the latest builds of savaged zen dont agree with my phone, so im stuck with cm7 for the moment which is not half bad

Well looks like nostalgia kicked in because it still prefer CM7 out of the 3 roms mentioned here unless anybody has any other AOSP rom suggestions

have you deleted or froze any apps with titanium?
I would reflash the ROM, wiping only cache, davlik cache, and system (not data).
No I haven't deleted anything, I tried flashing several times wiping everything but I didn't try not wiping the data. I'm actually on another Rom now :/ would it still work if I flashed n left data?

If you wiped everything and it still had issues wiping all minus data isn't going to solve your problem (His post above saying not to wipe data was if you were on Synergy and wanted to reflash the same ROM). Has anyone else on Synergy had this issue? If you are on another ROM and all works I'd just stay there or find another ROM you like just as much.
Ok, idk I posted this on there too but no one replied yet lol. N ok :/ I found a good Rom but its missing the crt animations lol

the crt animations actually use alot of battery for what they are. Some devs have taken it out for that reason.

Just came from the Sidekick 4G family, and now I was looking for some feedback on the best ROMs, themes, apps..
Can I root with the Super One Click method?
Any feedback greatly appreciated

I dontknow if the one click method works with gb. I rooted mine before one click was available and have t kept up on it.
All u gotta do I follow the steps for installing cwm, backup ur current set up, then flash whatever rom you want. These steps are in the development section.
Welcome, enjoy

If you're looking for a ROM based off the the stock OTA 2.3.3., Weapon is really popular.
Otherwise, you can stick to the guide and install a nightly of CM7 or, one of my favorites, doniqcc's EaglesBlood which is CM7 based.
Oh alright thanks dudes
I'll give it a go and see what happens

So you obviously know way more then I do about this what is the best rom in your opinion? And does that app pack work on all roms or just cyanogen mod?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
It works on all ROMs except the CM9 alpha that was released. Until you're less new you might want to hold off on that until there is a stable release.
Thanks the cyanogen nightly that I installed is slower then the stock one .just wondering what roms are best

Google Euroskank and go to the first one that pops up, hit the P999 tab and grab the latest and grab any of the custom kernels that strike your fancy or do what I started to do and try one for a week or two and see how I like it.
I thought those were only for the O2x not g2x

So what would be the best in your opinion to use
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Kernel?
It depends: If you want battery life get Trinity ELP (I that's the one, the one which only allows to OC to 1.1GHz) if you want pure power go for Faux, if you want a balance (don't know if it has Voodoo sound though) go for Dragon for CM7 (not OTA).
So I take it that you can use different kernals with different roms and you flash them the same as the roms?

Most, if not all of the newer custom roms are debloted, meaning the bloat has been removed in OTA based roms. If its AOSP or CM based, it's built without bloat.

CM9 issues. Reverted to CM7!

I just recently installed CM9 with faux's kernel and it was overly buggy! It froze, apps constantly crashed, the screen would turn black if I turned the phone horizontal. For you slow folk, that's sideways.
Within 10 minutes of using CM9, I decided I was reverting to CM7! So, I booted into CWM and wiped everything; Dalvik, battery stats, cache, and did a full wipe. I reinstalled everything pertaining to CM7 and "tried" to restore. This is where I encountered a strange issue! When the restore got to the point of retiring data, it started to display 1 byte hex for awhile. The process took 3 times the norm. It then produced an error while trying to restore .Android.secure. I eventually fixed but has to delete all my backups since they all became "corrupted", if that's what you wanna call it. Thoughts?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Your poor experience on CM9 was probably because of a bad flash or bad wipe. Did you use the nullifier? I suggest you try the Hellfire Sandiwch, while it isn't perfect, it comes close to it.
The correct terminology is landscape by the way.
Try eb aosp. Its a great rom.

I give CM9 another go. Last time, I used faux's UV/OC kernel. This time I used the stock voltage kernel instead and its running smooth now!! This rom is pretty bad ass!
UPDATE: com.android.phone crashes every 10 seconds. Its pretty annoying! If I reset, it stops but if I try to share a picture from facebook to tumblr or mms it will cause it to crash every 10 seconds.

Tuna kernel isn't for our phone. I'm surprised your phone boots.

I don't think you should be flashing.
Can't tell if it's a troll or not.
ICS is not ready yet and most likely will not be until we get some sort of leak on ICS drivers. So if your phone is daily driver and you need it for work, CM7.2 is the only way to go, it also has much more features, more stable, and faster.
No, not trolling. I actually "assumed" that derkernel was G2X specific. Sometimes I don't look into stuff as much as I should! I've been busy all day on top of it. I'm replacing my head gasket on my truck so I guess I didn't think much of it at the time. But I don't see it as a stupid move! I mean there are so many different kernels out there, I just assumed it was just another name for the G2x kernel....Tuna. its running smooth tho. With the exception of the video camera and not being able to view recorded video.
Thanks buru I'll check out the bionix kernel too.

How to go back to stock CM 7.2 kernel?

My rom is the official CM 7.2 stable. I flashed a few 3rd party kernels (Faux, Trinity etc) without making a backup first and now I wish to back to the original stock CM 7.2 kernel. Is there a simple way to do it?
I do have adb, if that works can someone give me the commands? Or a flashable zip would be beyond godly.
Thanks.

I always wondered why isn't there Roman default kernel in a zip flashable form floating around on the web.
It's much easier to flash a kernel than to flash the ROM.
