[Q] Change default movie player - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the Xoom WIFI version, and love it so far. I am very familiar with Android and rooting on my EVO, but have a question on the Xoom.
I use Subsonic to stream my music and movies to my EVO currently and works perfect. I now want to do the same with Xoom, however I need to change the default video player to be RockPlayer Lite not the default movie player. Does anyone know how I can change this? I have to change it as the default player on the Xoom won't play my .AVI files it keeps wanting to download them
I have already looked in Applications and I don't have an option to set the player that I want as Default
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Ken~

gmote and video playback

Whenever I use gmote I can play back video on my pc, but not on my phone. The message I keep getting says "gmote is unable to find an android application to play this file type". Is this a limitation of gmote or do I need a media player with codecs for the phone? If I do need a media player what should I be using?
Thanks ahead of time
Test with .mp4 videos.
I am having the same issue on my Fascinate. Keep trying different conversions, but can't get any videos to play.
I uninstalled vplayer app now im unable to play videos on my phone through gmote. Ive installed qqplayer and meridian player but I get the "unable to find an android application to play this file type" can anyone help?
What video types are they?
its all file types. Ive tried reinstalling gmote. what would b e the best media player to install to use with gmote??
i dont think this has been addressed in another post but if it has im sorry. anyways the solution for this problem for my was installing mx player + codecs from the market. gmote streams to my phone fine now.

Getting Sense Video player into Cyanogen ROM? Or something like it?

Basically my 4 year old daughter loves the ability to play video files on my phone, using the default player whereby there's fullscreen scrollable previews, but after moving from Sense to AOSP the default music player is a written list only. This is obviously no good for her
I've tried Rockplayer, Act 1, Doubletwist etc but if the software does allow thumbnail previews it's nothing like the Sense player.
I wonder if there's anyway to restore the default Sense based video player into my Cyanogen'd ROM or is there something available on the Market alike?
Many thanks!
The best video player for Android i think its MoboPlayer try it, its a beta with a nice UI and good thumbmail previews..

I'll second that, I used to use VPlayer but I find Moboplayer plays smoother and you get the thumbnail previews.

[Q] Media player recommendations for HC that can play mkv's

Hello all,
I have finally made the jump into the honeycomb hideout from my rather comfortable gingerbread house (deck's stable evo build). On GB, the qqplayer was/is the perfect media player for most of my needs, plays mkvs, ogm, subtitles. On the newest update on our 7.0+'s, the player installs fine and can play videos that are placed on the internal storage (the program doesn't see the microsd for whatever reason), but the settings cannot not be accessed to change anything. I thought that the bottom status bar was hiding the options, but even with the bottom bar hidden with Honeybar, no options appear. I installed Rockplayer too, but had the same issue on not being able to access any options. At least Rockplayer sees the microsd and can play from it, although it won't find/play the embedded softsubs, like the qqplayer.
So, what media players are people using that work? Or can anyone think of a workaround?
I've been using MX Player, though I just picked one and it worked for 1080p mkv so I didnt bother looking further
found one!!!
I tried MX, it plays files, but didn't support internal subs. I have found a damn near perfect player, "mvideoplayer" version 2.91. Plays 720p mkv's with internal subs no problem.
Also there is Dice Play which let you play additional format regardless of system codecs
Have you tried Mobo?

[Q] mx as web player

Good morning,
I would like to ask, why I cannot choose to play a streaming video (like youtube videos) with mx-player and I can only play the stream with the browser built-in player. I use opera browser, but I have already tested a lot of different browsers without seeing any difference; the browsers don't give me the option to use another player, they don't see mx-player as an appropriate app.
Also I tried, to copy and past the videos URL into Network Stream box, but it doesn't work anyway.
Thank You for the support.
I use tubemate to watch youtube videos with less res.
Instead of downloading you can select watch it and select any player you want.

I still would like to figure out if there is a way to stream/play youtube video's automatically to my MX player...
The reason I want to find out, is that youtube is fast becoming the new music player of today... just type in a search for a band/artist (ie. "michael jackson") or general selection like (ie: "salsa music") and you'll be listening for hours to your favorite music.
But using the youtube app or the native browser is not satisfactory, because they will both stop playing/streaming once you lock the screen of your phone.
So if I want to listen to my favorite music while running, I can not use these sources.
MX player has the ability to keep streaming/playing music while the screen is locked...
And that is why I'm looking for a way to stream from youtube to this player.
Help!?!

Best Android Video/Media Player? (Identical to Infuse for iOS?)

Hi,
Just got my S7 Edge in the post today
and coming from/abandoning IOS
i feel a little out in the blue
I have been using the Infuse Media app for ios for a long long time
and for me it feels like that app got everything.
what's important for me that i'm looking for is the following
- Play media from NAS/network storage.
- Subtitle support (online and saved subtitles locally).
- Download files/videos from network storage/NAS.
- Chromecast support (maybe AirPlay too)
- Swipe fastforwarding option.
dose anyone know any media app that is identical to the Infuse one i've been using with these functions?
it would be of great help for a new android/samsung user.
Kodi seems to be the most popular alternative for infuse. I haven't used it myself but worth giving it a shot.
Kodi or Plex will give you full media player capability. I just use File Manager HD to browse my NAS, and view thru MX player, which allows substtitles to be downloadsled. When playing thru a NAS, the filename received by MXplayer isnsome weird coded thing, so MX can't automatically locate subtitles, I just enter the name manually and it gets me the subs I need.
You should try the MX Player app. According to me this is the best video player for Android.
I have also migrated from ios recently and kodi is what you are looking for. It's the best on Android.
