[Q] What's the best way to do a full backup?

Hello everyone,
I'd like to know what's the best way to do a full backup on my droid. I've read about using Nandroid to do it and so far this was the most complete step by step thread I've found about it: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ha...step-step-no-adb-involved-noob-challenge.html but I've also seen other walkthroughs that seem much easier so I don't know if this is outdated or not, all the mirrors for the necessary files are broken so I don't know if I should follow it.
I've also read on another forum that you can just use ROM Manager and ClockworkMod recovery to make a backup but when I searched for the ROM Manager app on the market there were a lot of comments saying that the backup/restore functions didn't work properly so I'm not sure if that method is any good either.
Can anyone point me to a decent updated thread on how to use Nandroid or suggest any other methods?

do a nandroid backup, then copy the files over to your computer as an extra precaution. They are big files (mine was 512mb yesterday) so you might not want to keep it on your SD card.
Backup is easy to do, boot into HBOOT > Recovery and perform a backup!

The only problem I see with the nandroid backups is that I have to flash the custom recovery rom in order to get it running, is there some way to restore it in case I need to claim my warranty for some reason?

I made a backup by TWRP.
But the problem is that I don't know what to do with this backup.
1: For full backup, I leave to the nexus or I spend it on a PC? If my nexus has problem to boot, what I do with my backup ? How use it (txrp, fastboot....) ?
2: For a backup of data (so if I understand it, the app), I leave on nexus or I put on pc? and after I use it when and how?
For ex, when I switched to M, at the beginning (after boot), the nexus has installed all the app from my google account, but it's very long, so I would like tu stop it and use ma data backup, but i don't know how to do...

1. Both. Keep a backup on your PC and another one on your device. Hold Power + Vol Down to reboot into the bootloader then select Recovery. Once into TWRP use the Restore option to restore your nandroid.
2. Both. Same answer. If you are using Titanium Backup then use the restore option.
During the setup wizard do not check the "restore my data from Google servers" then check in Settings > Backup.

Because the backup (nandroid) is very big, and it's a problem to keep it on the nexus.....

adb push and adb pull
You can also use the MTP feature though TWRP which allows you to drag and drop your files.

I just want to know that if install a new rom can I backup all my apps and apps data on the new rom.

take nandroid backup from your recovery for that first root your device then install any recovery than take full system backup it will backup all your system data and in future you can also restore it

You're going to have to be rooted to do a full backup. You need to look into that first.
Once you've done that, you can then install a backup app from the store such as nandroid backup.
If you install a custom recovery like twrp, you can also do a full backup.

Possible to root without wiping OR reliable non-root device backup?

Does anyone know if this is possible? I've had my phone for a couple weeks and want to root but don't really want to reinstall and setup everything again. If not, can someone point me to a reliable non-root full backup option?

no. oem unlock is needed first and that pre-step is the bad boy that does the wipe.

Google is your backup option. It can restore settings, apps and data. Just restore from cloud. You need root to have a perfect backup.

Well, to backup apps and data in the OS, like OP wants before unlocking bootloader.

I did this with titanium backup on my previous phone to go from non-root to root and worked like a charm.
I can't post a link to the url...anywhay search for titanium backup non-root and you will see how to make a backup that can later be restored with titanium.
1. How to make your first backup WITHOUT root:
Before beginning, you need to setup your ADB and have your device detected. You must also running Android version 4.0 and above. Also, make sure you have a file manager installed. Our favorite is the ES File Explorer.
Connect your device and make sure its listed with the following command:
adb devices
Run a FULL backup with the following command:
adb backup -f FullBackup.ab -apk -all
This will create a “package” called “FullBackup.ab” on the current location in your command prompt. This is your backup package.
Now you can root your phone.
Once finished rooting, insert the “FullBackup.ab” package on your sdcard
Hit the menu button and look for “Extract from ADB backup” option. This will prompt you to search for the file. Use the file manager that you installed earlier and navigate to the directory and select the FullBackup.ab file.
Now restore like as if the backup was made with Titanium Backup. Don’t forget to make a fresh copy of the backup using Titanium Backup. You’re Done!

Create flashable backup of phone in current state

Hi, I have my phone rooted, magisk'd, xposed etc etc and with a lot of apps and tweaks done to it.
Is there any way at all I could make a flashable image of it instead of having to make a backup of it in TWRP and then restoring it from there? (The TWRP method has never failed me but I was just curious about whether the question below could be done)
I'd like to be able to have a copy of the entire phone as a backup on the PC so I could then flash the phone back to its current state (if I mess anything up) using SP Flash Tool?
Forgive me if this is a stupid question or a task so complicated that it would just be easier to continue using TWRP.
The reason I ask is if the TWRP backup on the phone gets corrupted somehow then I'd like a copy of the phone so I could restore using that.

You can store a copy of your TWRP backup on PC, then, if the backup that is stored on the device gets corrupted, you can use the copy that is stored on PC.

I have a copy of it on PC just in case, I thought I remembered reading a thread on here quite a few years back about creating a custom ROM from your existing installation with SPFlashtool or a similar program but it was so long ago that I might have mistaken it for another backup method.
Either way the TWRP backup is still quick enough to recover from and was thinking about the SPFlashtool way as an experiment. Thanks for replying.

You should be able to make partition image backups in TWRP. System, data and boot. Then you can Fastboot flash those partitions back.
I am not familiar with the MTK devices but it must be similar.
You can also use SuperR's kitchen to easily build a ROM from the images.

Please check if this will help you out, I know it can save app, app data and roms. I used it on my device. Though some apps have problem using the app data which was backed up, most apps worked

That is useless for what they are trying to do. That only backs up and restores user apps and user data, it helps you keep your data when switching ROMs. That doesn't help restore the system if the device gets corrupted.

Abstract:
Twrp have constant problem with encrypted data. The goal to achieve is make full backup of encrypted phone, when is unlocked, and be able copy on another same model of phone, and again encrypt it.
