hey guys was wandering if there was a way of flashing the kernel using fast boot or a kernel manager
i tried packing it with one of the roms but keep hanging on htc screen....is there no way of running logcat on the htc screen or a log for info
using ubuntu 64bit
thjanks in advance
can't you flash kernel as a ROM? via recovery update? I think BlaY0 in the Legend section managed to do that you can consult him
thx will try
i can flash via bootloader using the pg88img.zip method... gna recompile it as keep gettin stuck on htc screen
Is it only some files you need to rewrite in the system or do you need anything else done?
LBC has offered his update-dummy file - a flashable .zip - not to be unzipped and rezipped, that doesn't work for some reason... HERE
If you need to copy files, change permissions etc, you can consult this guide or this one on how to write Edify updater-script... that should get you rollin'
well at the moment im flashin the kernel using kitchen to decompile rom and recompile but jus wandering how i can push the wireless driver to phone as im gettin wifi errors but is loading tho
actually think i can sort by simply adding driver before compilin lol need some sleep hehe
will try adding smartass and simple overclock for larter

I think your referring to the bcm file?
Just use a recovery flash, im actually at work so cant really attach one as an example.
Or if it boots up use root explorer to copy your file to system\etc\modules and set the permissions correctly, reboot into rec and delete dalvik cache.
Hope this helps..

Hey everybody I finally figured out how to fix the line 5 boot error that I myself had and a lot of other people are experiencing while trying to flash some roms. I was experiencing this problem for about a month while trying to flash ava v7 and v8. What bothered me the most is I could flash fresh rom. So I tried everything I could think of and nothing worked. Then right when I was going to give up I thought to myself what do I got to lose let me start from scratch and see what happens. So I unrooted using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141 after I unrooted I upgraded to the new ota getting the new pri 1.77. After that was completed I rooted my phone using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776477 and when that was complete I booted into recovery wiped everything and flashed ava v8 which was giving me the same line 5 boot error everytime before and it WORKED!!! It worked for me and several other people so far hope it works for you. I would also like to say thanks to ava for making such a great rom it really is awsome.
Why does this work?
Also why is ava so bad at making zips but not fresh... and lastly why does ava not do something about it....?

I don't know why it works it just does. I'm not a dev I'm just a regular guy who tries a lot of different things and found this out so I thought I should share it. As far as ava making bad zip files I wouldn't talk bad about one of or devs who work so hard on their own time to make us roms for free.

u dont really need to go over and do this whole thing... its just something in the update script that was probably off.
im assuming u dont know how to look at the update-script and such... thats why the whole long way of doing what u did... but hey... im happy u got it to work for u.
next time u might wanna try looking at the script in the zip file and maybe edit it a little your self and resign the zip... it not so hard to do, but i guess if u not sure how than your way would probably be ok.

ouch so harsh. i use the same thing fresh does. its all about the size and the script. i never used clockwork so to be sure that it would work on the recovery i changed things. this caused some issues.
I am doing something about this but its hard when i dont get the error and people that do get the error, report it fixed with V8 and some dont.
also i learned everything from flipz so its hard to surpass the master
ill be releasing a fix tonight along with some other things im sure you and everyone will enjoy

I figured there was a better way I will look into doing it this way I'm just not familiar with editing scripts so I have to do a little research on it but thank you for your input. The way I did it was probably long and could be shorter but it its still a good way for someone who isn't familiar with scripts.
I used the file at this link and my problem was solved. I was an un revoked user... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752832 this doesn't require any data loss so maybe try before going through the whole hoopla of a un-root followed by re-root. Just my .02¢

I didn't root via UnrEVOked and I had the Line 5 error as well... while unrooting & re-rooting may take a while, it's the only thing that has worked for me to fix the LINE 5 error on the AVA8 install. Being that i'm not a dev, I don't know what AVA could or couldn't have done wrong with the ROM, but the problem with the install was not affecting everyone, and those that it did affect achieved root through different methods. So thank you AssAssin for figuring out a workaround, however rudimentary it may be.

Has there been a fix for the Line 5 error added to V8 yet?
I'd say no since I'm getting the line 5 error now. I even switched to amon-ra but i'm still getting it.
When you get the line 5 boot error it doesn't matter how many times you switch back and forth from amon ra or clockwork or wipe or do whatever you are still going to get it. I tried all of that even turn sign on and off and nothing the only way that I managed to get past it and flash the rom I wanted (ava v8) was to do what I explianed in the op. Hope it works for you too.
Does anybody have the Original Sprint Boot/start up files?
If someone could help I would appreciate it.
we know where the files r but as far as i know we cant edit them (like the moment). the only thing i have been able 2 change is the boot up sound

I tried Syndicate, which I liked but I'am a fan of the stock feel.
Epic Experience wouldn't install
Installed Asop
Then I went to my backup I made of My stock Rom just to see if everything works right.
What is not original is when you boot into your phone/power on you see the sprint logo and S galaxy logo. Well and image of a flashing Android Banner keeps flashing/popping up on the intros, but not on outro/shuntdown.
hmmm have u checked for a bootanimation.zip? thats kinda what it sounds like b/c i heard that were able 2 use a bootanimation.zip but something has 2 be changed in (i think) the init.rc file.... worse case scenario just flash back 2 stock
No I haven't, where can i get the zip from?
i mean from installing one of the roms it might have installed a bootanimation.zip (im not 100%)
So what do I have to do?
I would try flashing with odin 2 fully stock and that should bring everything back

What type of backup did you make? The nandroid backup from Clockwork Recovery does not backup the kernel.
You may need to install the stock kernel.
IMHO, the best thing is probably to flash the stock image using odiin & then root / install Clockwork Recovery (or whatever you used for backup) so you can restore your data.
You can then be sure you are starting from original stock ROM & kernel.

I did the Odin Process... now it start in recovery mode... i have to load the update.zip right? should i use the one that whitehackx post? i was reading about the CWM3 Biggest change from 2.5.1.2 to 3.x:
your normal zips will not work on this CWM or any future CWM for that matter. CWM3 has been updated to only allow edify updater-scripts. You will need to modify all of your update-scripts to be in the edify format. I will need to find a link on how to do this and post it in this thread.
There are two files to download one is the modded an the other one is the CWM 3. which one should i use?

You dont have to worry about the edify script stuff just put that update.zip on your sdcard then go into recovery and press reinstall packages then you will be in CWM also dont use rom manager

Hi,
after being a lurker I finally made an account to ask for help with a problem I can't solve.
I flashed my P500 with the latest 7th build of the CM10 by Rashed97 from stock 2.2.2 with V10a badeband.
All wipes done etc. flash went well.
Only problem, the phone didn't detect any SIM cards, detected no GSM.
I went on looking at all the ways to flash baseband and fix it. In the end I failed, tried LGMDP got errors, tried the fix provided by some of the users but the baseband stays "unknown" (not sure if was like that b4 fix, so I recovered to 2.2.2 and gonna do it again).
I'm asking for some advice, just how am I supposed to handle it this time so in the end I get a functioning phone.
Should i update baseband first, then flash ROM?
Cheers, looking forward to your replies.
First link in my signature below. Try flashing that.
If didnt work, unzip it and place it in /system/lib and set permissions right.
Same as other lib's permissions.

I used the fix already, didn't work. Tho i didn't figure out how to get it into /system/lib (where do I find that directory?). You mentioned in an earlier post, that one has to use root explorer, as in an APP?
Or maybe I'm supposed to flash the fix while I'm still on stock 2.2.2?
EDIT: Ugh, I'm tired and my posts are quite bad, but I got some news.
Baseband turns to unknown right after flashing ROM (flashed gapps also). So I'm gonna try that method of yours with putting the fix into /system/lib , I'm off to figure out how it's done....
EDIT2: Copied and overwrote the files from system/lib but where do the META - INF folder go?
Meta-Info folders are for recoveries not for us
No need to extract them.
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Sadly, even extracting the fix and putting the files manually into system/lib doesn't fix my problem ( I even checked the permissions).
Maybe I should just try updating the baseband first on 2.2.2 and then flash the CM10 ROM?

So I updated my ROM and baseband with G Mobile Support Tool.
Right now I got stock 2.3.3 with V20c on my P500. I guess I'll make a recovery of this and start flashing the CM10 again.
EDIT: Now this is bat**** crazy. After getting stock 2.3.3 had to fight to root it (finally managed with Onec Click Root). Now when I got my superuser I can't even go into recovery. Holding home + vol up + power makes a factory reset instead (superuser stays, other app like rom manager, quickboot and settings get deleted). So wth?
I think I'll try reflashing recovery with rom manager (after i once again dl it).
Victory!
Finally I managed to get it to work.
After updating to stock 2.3.3 I already had the right baseband, so then I just had to reflash recovery (which fixed the issue of going into recovery mode) and finally reflash the whole CM10 ROM.
Got greeted by phone asking for PIN, GSM works with full bars and now I can sit back and enjoy the smoothness of JB Android.
I'd like to thank all the people who answered my posts, gave me advice and tried to help.
I really, really needed this :victory: because changing to P500 with 4.1.2 is a really great upgrade from my GT540.
That's both for soft and hardware (finally multi-touch, Donkey Kong Adventure on SNESOID, here I come).
Rock on guys! :highfive:

The Lg LU6200 is a much different phone from ours and probably has a much different solution to your problem, I would recommend you ask on the forum for that phone. The nitro HD is a very similar phone, and there is a development subforum for your phone in the nitro hd's forum so there is probably a solution somewhere on there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1445

Edit .... is this simply to allow users to switch to TWRP if I build with CWM?

TWRP includes a file manager in recovery, so if something goes horribly wrong and you need to replace a required init.d script file, you can actually do it without needing a computer for your ADB.
It also looks pretty. And is touch friendly. Friendly touch. Good touch. Mhmm.
But it's the file manager that makes me choose TWRP over CWM any chance I get.

After using your kernel, TWRP wouldn't backup or flash anything. Gonna go back to stock and work my way back up because I can't flash anything with CWM in it.

Whoa weird. I've been able to restore/backup properly on mine. I need to mess around with the cm10.1 based version of it since all of my testing has been on team acid's aries cm9.
The JB kernel might be adding problems to TWRP, but on ICS it's still working fine, even flashing noiphone's cm10.1 build worked from TWRP.
Yeah I ran in to this last night trying to back and flash a new ROM. I could restore from an old back up, it was fine until it reached the recovery part then it freaked you out.

Yeah I ran in to this last night trying to back and flash a new ROM. I could restore from an old back up, it was fine until it reached the recovery part then it freaked you out.
I had to one click.

Okay I know exactly what you mean and was able to replicate the issue. I'll try to see what's going on behind the scenes for this since a boot.img restore should only take a second or two when you recover from a backup.
Something about color/overlay image could not be applied (something like that) in adb shell adb logcat when u go into recovery with twrp.
